Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, Fidelis Medicaid the process?
Maryvsg87 replied to Maryvsg87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask yourself why did you want the GBS vs VSG and then what made you choose VSG and then why now you want GBS again if whatever you answer makes sense to you gen go with that. I always say go with your gut feeling and ask if you can change surgery cause then you might then later on go get a revision and that's another surgery. -
Boo Boo Kitty's PS Journey

BBK, I am glad the band dr will be fixing your port. I agree with you, it is better to let the expert fix it so your band is not damaged and he will know how it is supposed to be and look. I am sorry to hear you are unhappy with your breasts. Can you get a 2nd opinion from another PS before you let the PS do the revision? I might be worried about him doing more surgery. We are all wishing you all the best. You look MARVELOUS, just marvelous!!!:rolleyes2: -

Hello all... Well I am surprised, in shock and awe and HAPPY to say that my surgeon was VERY VERY VERY nice today. I told him how I felt and hje agreed and then some! If my insurance will not cover it, which it won't he said he will "Eat the cost"!! I am still in shock! He is going to do more than I would have enve asked for but I am certainly NOT going to turn it down! I will be taking some photos ;ater and will post them. They are actually very hard for me to do!I can post all day the pretty me with clothes, but the other is very different! -

April sleevers in mexico

I will be having band to sleeve revision with Dr Lopez on the 12th if all is well. Fingers crossed. -
Good luck! I really hope the process goes well for you. It has been the best decision I ever made. Im 2 weeks post op from my revision. Had several issues during surgery because of scar tissue buildup around my port which ended up leading to a post-op infection but now that is healing and life is getting back to normal!
-
Dustin, hope it's going well! I had revision Monday and I'm pleased. Hope your getting stronger each day!

I think the Band works differently on different people. Not sure if it has to do with the type of Band... fill docs... or whatever. Some people PB a ton from the get-go regardless of what they eat. Others never have a PB at all. What I do believe is that you need to work to be successful with as little fill as possible? Why? Because in general, the smaller the fill, the more healthful/normal foods you can eat. The smaller the fill, the more calories you're probably getting (although not too many), so your metabolism doesn't shut down. You also leave yourself more room for success. I know that when I got super-tight... when barely anythign would go down... that's when I turned to the junk food that somehow always made it down. At this point, I was starving... eating so little... and desperate, so I turned to food, any food, for nourishment. My nails were shot... hair looked like crap, etc. Removing some fill lead to better choices, and eventually more weight loss. Of course, now it's been three years since I've had a fill. Had to have the one I had in March (I think) removed because it gave me problems. Was planning on revising to a VSG (Vertical Sleeve)... but became preggers again. I will say that even though my Band can go crazy during pregnancy, even with no fills (like when you have your period)... it is still comforting to know that I have the Band vs. a malabsorption surgery during pregnancy. As for the MGB, I looked into having that done in 1999 when I started my WLS research. Have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Rutledge. He has published some great long-term data on the MGB, covering a ton of patients. You can check it out at his site, which used to be clos.net Not sure if that still works.

LapBand Erosion Anyone?

Another Hopeful Band To Sleeve Revision
Wheetsin replied to timetobefree's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Did you have the same screen name on LBT? I was there for several years (since 2005 IIRC). We have similar stats and somewhat similar stories, though my slip occured during my pregnnacy (I'm 99% sure). I'm still a fan of the band, just not it's long-term implications. As a temporary tool, I think it's great. Bands do leak. Allergan (manufactures the Lap-Band brand) knows they leak. I know too many people who've had "disappeared" fill, it's ridiculous. It shouldn't be able to leak, but it can. Osmosis maybe, who knows! I know it's frustrating and financially stressful, but two surgeries Healthwise is a good thing (I guess that's the silver lining?). The complication rate when there's a minimum two month wait between procedures goes down ridiculously. I don't remember the exact numbers, but as of about a year ago it was something like 20% - 30% initially, and a bit more each subsequent month. A lot of surgeon's will refuse two-in-one procedures now, because of the high complication rates. Because of an insurance snafu I went 7 months between band removal and sleeve revision. I did great maintenance wise for about 2 or 3 months, then hit a hard downward spiral. In the first two-ish months I gained about 10 lbs, most of which was Fluid (I was so dehydrated from not being able to comfortably pass fluids regularly). But by the date of my revision, I was up about 60 lbs in 7 months. That's insane. Be glad the band is coming out now. The reflux can lead to some bad things. I was given the option of keeping my slipped band in because all in all, I was tolerating it OK (at first - it got a lot worse fairly quickly). I told them it wasn't an option, too much risk for something else to pop up. I think you'll like the sleeve. It's familiar, yet night-and-day opposite -- all in good ways. Revisioners tend to lose weight more slowly with the sleeve (I don't know if it's "with the sleeve" so much as "this time around"), but quality of life is so much better, it's worth it. I've said before, I'm not anti-band, it's just unable to do what made it successful to begin with. I am still surprise it's being marketed so hard and we aren't seeing more surgeons drop it. I guess it has too high of a profit margin. Having had both, if I knew then what I know now and it had been readily available, I'd have gone with the sleeve to start with. Especially if I was self pay (I wasn't, neither time). If I'd self-paid for my band, I would be pissed and some of the folks I know at Allergan would be hearing from me daily. -
Another Hopeful Band To Sleeve Revision
CowgirlJane replied to timetobefree's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
How frustrating! I hope you are able to get this all resolved so you can move on to a healthier life. FYI, I have lost faster with the sleeve then I did with the band. According to my NUT, I am "doing good" even by virgin sleever standards so I don't believe that revisions always mean slower losses! -
I have been doing better the last few days. Bringing poor choices into the house is something I really need to improve. Over the years my husband has taken over the shopping many times at my request. But he is so busy, it often slips back to me. I was planning that this revision was going to be a new start for my whole family. My husband and boys are all thin. But we still should not be having so much ( or any! ) chips and Cookies in the house. Lots of work to do here! Why is it so hard for me to keep it out of the house? It's like I need it here. Security.

February Sleevers - how are you doing?
LSF replied to healthiswealth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm losing slowly but I expected it - because mine was a revision surgery, I'm older and I carry my weight in my lower body. I also hVent exercised as much as I would like. I used to go to the track all the time to walk, I now have a bone spur in my heel. Have an appt scheduled with a podiatrist but they couldn't fit me in until mid- April. -

ette16 replied to bvenegas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Looking like May 11th for me. Revision from a lap band to the sleeve. Today is my pre op medical clearance. Tomorrow I meet with the doctor to go over all the details. Then Thursday I meet with the dietician to go over pre op and post op eating guidelines. Holy crap! I can't believe it's only 2 weeks away! -
Considering Revision - some questions
JanetNBama replied to lillian.b.white's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm in the midst of scheduling my band to sleeve revision. My band was paid by the insurance company but they will only pay for one weight loss surgery in a lifetime (BCBS of AL). My surgeon is going to remove my band at no cost since he was the one that put it in, but I have to self pay for the sleeve and the hospital/anesthesia since the hospital considers it two surgeries - (not sure how being under for one surgery is charging for two surgeries - unless the length of time I am under is what is considered). Anyway - I am a little nervous about 'failing' the sleeve like I did the band. I lost about 90 lbs with the band and gained 60 back. -
Another Hopeful Band To Sleeve Revision
timetobefree posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am a long-time member of LBT, although I have read these forums for quite some time. Just thought I would share my story as I go about a likely band to sleeve revision. I was banded in Nov 2009 at 374 lbs. I had a long road to restriction, but once I got it, I rocked my band. To be perfectly honest, I probably kept it a bit too tight, but I LOVED the lack of hunger when my band was on the tighter side. For the first time in my life, I did not think about food 24/7. It was awesome! I followed the rules to a "T", and the weight slipped off. From my banding until Dec 2011 (2 years), I lost 190 lbs. I was thrilled! Despite the occasional PB and inability to eat certain foods, I was still 99.9% happy with my band. Right after Christmas this year, however, I got a terrible upper respiratory infection. I coughed and coughed and coughed. I coughed until I puked. The cough lingered and turned into terrible reflux. After about two weeks of the coughing and reflux, I went to my primary care physician, because even drinking the tiniest bit of Fluid caused me severe back pain. Long story short, I was diagnosed with a slip. While "they" claim it wasn't the coughing, I have no doubt that the severity of my cough caused it to slip. I got a complete unfill in early January. After not eating or drinking for weeks, I'd lost 200 lbs total. I was looking awesome! But the unfill was heavenly - I could eat! And eat I did, unfortunately. Once the slip was fixed, I started getting fills again. By late May, I was back up to 8 cc in my 14 cc band. I had good restriction, but I needed a bit more. I went in for one more small fill, and when I walked out, I had ZERO restriction. I went back later that week, and my surgeon was only able to remove 4 cc of the nearly 9 cc that should have been in there. He put the 4 back in along with 5 more. I walked out with ZERO restriction once again. Despite his claims that "bands can't and don't leak", a little googling proved that bands leak quite often, so I found a new surgeon to discuss my options with. I've gained back more weight than I care to admit. I finally met with the new surgeon yesterday. I had an Upper GI to confirm if I just have a leak or another slip. If, fingers crossed, there's not another slip, I will have the band out and revise to sleeve in one surgery on 8/31. If not, I'll have to do two surgeries. I was self-pay the first time and I will be this time as well, so my fingers are triply crossed that there is not another slip, because I'm not sure two surgeries are in our budget. I am fairly confident there is not, based on the immediate lack of restriction after that fateful fill, the fact that I have NO slip symptoms like I did last time, and because the Upper GI surgeon did not see evidence of a slip, although my surgeon will make the final determination. He is supposed to call me today with my results. I was the biggest fan of the band until six months ago. I had such tremendous success, but I am not willing to go through this again. A slip and a leak, and all of this making my waistline grow and my wallet shrink. I just want something more permanent and reliable. If you've made it this far, thanks for reading! I'll update when I hear from my surgeon. A -
I am scheduled for lap band to VSG revision surgery June 23rd and I'm a nervous wreck. I know I need this surgery without a doubt. I don't know if it's because I'm in the medical field and know way too much about what could go wrong or if it's the fact that I'm a revision and I know that the complication rates are higher for me. I keep thinking I have two children and what if something happens. Wouldn't that be selfish? I know it's selfish the way I'm living now too. I hardly do anything fun anymore because I deal with the aches and pain and fatigue that comes along with being morbidly obese. I have prayed and I know God will watch over me but I can't get the fear out of my mind as the surgery date nears. Are any of you guys with scheduled revisions feeling the same way as I do? I think I will be a complete mess come surgery date.

I am a veteran bandster and newbie revision, band to sleeve. I just ate 15 chickens, 2 hams, 4 potatoes, a steak and some taffy. Did I mess up my staple line? ;o) (okay, I had to do this. It was a dare.)
-
We all have fears close to the surgery date, I too had my revision on June2nd and there were some issues in the operating room due to scar tissue but it worked out and I was able to be sleeved. My surgeon did informed me that if there were issues due to scar tissue I may have to just get the band out and then wait for my stomach to heal before doing the sleeve. I will keep you in my prayers Good Luck

I had my lapband revision on June 10 and had zero complications. Easier surgery than the lapband surgery in my opinion. I only took the pain meds for two days and didn't need them after that. Today I am down 20 lbs!

Sleeve to Mini Bypass Revision
Bogart79 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello All, I'm looking for a little advice. I was sleeved in August of 2014. I lost about 50 lbs after surgery but then went completely stagnant. I couldn't lose another plan no matter what I did, so in effect, this felt just like another one of those diets where you feel like you are doing everything right and the weight just stops coming off. After several months of losing and gaining back the same 5 lbs, I got lazy and started gaining back. I'm currently back to my starting weight before surgery. Up until recently, I just felt like I failed the WLS fight and that the gain was all my own fault. A few months ago, I started looking into revision in Mexico. Once I spoke to the surgeon, he asked me a lot of questions that led me to believe the maybe the surgeon that performed my surgery did not do it properly. The first example is that I know a couple other people who had the same surgery with this surgeon and they had the same results (lost about 40-60 lbs, then stagnant, then gain). I also have this strange thing that happens rarely where I eat a moderate dinner (not overeating) and then go to bed 3-4 hours later and then I wake up around midnight and much of what I ate for dinner is vomited up. I've heard of overeating and then vomiting, but never 5-6 hours after you ate!! With these things, the surgeons that I have spoken to both think I'm a good candidate for revision surgery, but I'm concerned that maybe they are just trying to sell me on it. Others have told me to go back to my original surgeon, but since multiple people think that he did things incorrectly, is he maybe not the best person to go back to?? I guess I'm just looking for feedback. I know I'm a little all over the place, but I'm curious if anyone has dealt with anything like this before? I know the surgeons aren't perfect, but are there times where they cut the stomach too large or small?? or cut out the wrong section of the stomach? And don't get me wrong, I do take much of the responsibility for my sleeve failure. I definitely think that I went into the original procedure thinking that there was no way to fail and I forgot that there is a lot of work that I need to put in. Which is why I want to make sure I do things right this time and go in fully prepared. Thank you in advance for any advice. -
