Hi all, I’m having a revision surgery done at the end of this month. I had the sleeve back in May 2016 and from that I have severe GERD/acid reflux as well as weight gain. Has anyone else had this revision done? Any thoughts...?
-
I’m 5’1 and 258 and will be having the bypass due to my GERD. I previously had the sleeve and that is when I started having issues with GERD/acid reflux. It is so bad for me. I am scheduled for the 24th of this month!

I think with the gastric sleeve you have to take vitamins as well...just maybe not as much as those of us who have gastric bypass. For me, I take meds for other things every days well, so adding vitamins wasn't that much of an issue. Heck lots of people take vitamins everyday that dont otherwise need them.

Laura, I am waiting for approval from my insurance companies for the RNY revision surgery from the sleeve surgery 2 1/2 years ago. I never thought once I was told that all my medical problems would be solved with the sleeve surgery to consult any of my regular Drs.I thought that these surgeon's do this everyday so they know what is the best way to go. So I just went with the surgeon's suggestion that the sleeve was best for me. I had severe reflux disease, type 2 diabetes, HBP,High cholesterol, asthma and arthritis. My diabetes is gone, HBP,High cholesterol are gone. Reflux was gone for 6wks and now is worse than ever since the surgery. I lost 87 lbs and went from size 22w to 24 w to a 12 ladies. My suggestion is if you have medical issues consult each of the Drs.then weigh your options. Good luck Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Revision to RNY
allies journey replied to Sam.is.sassy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had Severe GERD before my sleeve and a hernia repair when my sleeve was done.. Within 2 months my hernia came back and my GERD has gotten far worse than I ever imagined. I am absolutely miserable and I'm taking 10 pills a day and zofran and GI COCKTAIL every day as opposed to 2 pills and occasionally zofran b4 sleeve. I'm waiting for approval from my insurance companies to get approval for the RNY revision surgery. I'm doing it for the GERD and tons of people are also having the revision surgery for the same reason. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I was revised to RnY on Tuesday (from VSG) my team said their revision patients have all been successful in loss. They did remind me I’m 80# less than when I started last time and went from a BMI of 52-39, so I will lose but the amounts will be less but percentage wise they should even out.

How much Calcium citrate is everyone taking?
RickM replied to Briswife15's topic in Food and Nutrition
With a bypass this early out, I would be inclined to go with the three doses (1500ish mg) as you are malabsorbing some of it and not getting all that much from diet at this point. It is usually better to supplement on the heavy side at first and then cut things back as diet improves and labs indicate - it's easier to cut back than to try to catch up if things were too low. I try to keep my Ca intake on the high side of the 1500-2000 range from all sources, which meant that early on I took 2 doses per day (1000-1300 mg, depending on product) but now only do one dose as diet fills in the rest. Magnesium, D3 and K2 also play a role in the calcium loop, so those should be considered as well. -
Hi, who is your surgeon in Mexico? I went to Dr Illan and it was the best experience of my life! I had the sleeve with him two years ago and am going back for a MGB revision in three weeks. I was treated better in Mexico then I ever was in America and it was more like a vacation then surgery! They treat you like a queen there!

Hi. You might get more replies if you started a new thread with your question. Are you chosing between MGB and bypass? Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I thought there was no guarantee you'd dump with RNY? That seems like a weird reason to choose it. There are more complications with bypass and it's malabsorption component. I choose sleeve for that reason. Both surgeries are a TOOL and your long term success depends on the lifestyle choices you make in the years afterward.

Lol I honestly think I want the bypass for the same reason. I just don't know if I would want to take vitamins for the rest of my life. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm 5'3" and had bypass at 228 lbs 10 weeks ago. I also had GERD/acid reflux. I'm happy with my choice. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
ARMoma45 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I'm Angie, 26 years old and Mommy of 2! I had the sleeve done in 2015, 4 months after having my 2nd child and my starting weight was 282 after vsg I got down to 197 lbs and started getting terrible acid reflux and then after my 2nd year I started regaining and now I'm currently at 229 lbs. Because of GERD I'm having revision to bypass on June 17th and I'm hoping for relief and to lose everything I regained and some! I'm currently on day 2 my pre-op diet and it's harder than I remember it being before my sleeve. I just need to get my mind on track. Welcome to the group -
Have to soooo agree here. There is sooo much information and people sharing their stories on Youtube that I think I have watched each and every one. For me, I wanted gastric bypass to take advantage of "dumping". In other words, I wanted quick feedback when I was being dumb. But I agree with the others above, sleeve is a good idea (and often recommended) for younger people. Now Im off to take my vitamins!

If your insurance doesn't need an approval from Primary doctor. Then you can go to any mental health office. I am glad the Bastric doctor recommended me to a physician. I have my own therapists and medical provider in which she said she will not approve anyone, so bypassed that. Good luck finding the right physcian. -
Not feeling understood by partner

Everyone is different. My mother in law had the bypass done and she tolerates foods differently than I do. Good luck though, and don't get discouraged. There are plenty of others with your problem and this place is a good spot to talk with others about the surgery. Sent from my F8131 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Got my date today! Scheduled for July 1st for gastric bypass.

Hi Laura. Since you are young I would definitely do the sleeve. You may want another child, and nutrition will be easier with the sleeve. The weight comes off just slightly slower with the sleeve, but over all results are very similar with either surgery as far as weight loss. I have heard at my wl group 3 bypass patients have iron deficiency and 1 got ulcers in the stomach portion that is bypassed as it still makes acid even though it isn't getting food. Any surgery is just a form of restriction which makes it easier to not over consume - as long as your head is in the game. Unless you examine your relationship with food, you will be less successful, the motivation and enthusiasm is high in the first year to 18 months and that will get you far into the journey. Every person has to find their own way and it can be tough at times. Do some reading on this forum - use the search function to find topics and view some youtube videos by Dr. Weiner, Dr. Duc Vuong, etc. Books by Geneen Roth and Jan Chosen Bays address food issues. Research and read as much as you can before surgery. Good luck.
