    Pre Surgery Liver Shrinking Diet

Swimming sounds good! Fear of bathing suits while big... Well I'm sure y'all know what I mean! But it is what it is, and I just have to bite the bullet, embrace the suck (as the military says). And quit whining and DO it. I know I can! Luckily my diet is full of low cal foods and not just shakes. Certain veggies, one fruit a day, three Protein shakes, etc. so I think I'll be ok about chewing frustrations. Til after the surgery, that is! I don't believe I HAVE to eat in the evenings to take care of my depression, it's just somethingi did when not thinking about it to self medicate. My psychiatrist has got me on different meds to keep the dip in the evening from happening. So far pretty good. Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk
  2. Im mew here, and i just neededto get some things off my chest... So I start my 700 cal liver shrinking diet tomorrow, and will do that for two weeks. Then surgery is in very early November. I'm just not understanding how they think I'm capable of doing 700 cals for TWO weeks without the help of something like the lap band. I mean isn't the lap band supposed to be a TOOL to help us do something we have a hard time doing on our own??? Like, say, eating very little food? I'm just scared I won't have the willpower when my depression hits hard in the evening. I use food for the dopamine surges which lift my depression temporarily. However, I will say this... Usually once I've been eating very little, and eating healthy on top of that, I start to find sugary foods disgusting, and I sometimes flat out forget to eat. So part of me thinks I will be ok, but mostly I'm nervous about the first 72 hours of it. When I think of all that being heavy has put me through, I am so certain this is a great choice for me. I don't suppose anyone else ever worried they would somehow fail, and stay heavy after the surgery??

how long on liquids after the first fill?

2 weeks liquids...now, I still do liquids for breakfast and sometimes lunch.
  4. several people have said that they had liquids the first day or two after a fill and then went back to pretty much normal eating. my surgeon has me doing a week of liquids and a week of mushies before going back to solids. is this typical or is he being a little overly cautious? i mean...ill still follow his orders obviously, but im just curious as to what everyone else was told. also all day yesterday (i had my fill yesterday morning), i was hiccuping like crazy. not painful, deep ones. just small annoying ones that took forever to go away. at least 2 or 3 separate times, usually after the first bite of food which was Soup or a Protein shake. is that common?
  5. I was banded 4 weeks ago. This past week I have gained 3 pounds! I have not cheated once! Here's what I ate yesterday (which is basically how I eat every day) and gained a pound Breakfast 1 egg 1 light laughing cow cheese Lunch 3 thin slices of ham with mustard (no bread) raw veggies Dinner 4 oz. of Salmon Afternoon Snack Pear 2 oz. cheese PLESE HELP! I am so frustrated and sad!!

  8. Hi All - wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how they have overcome it. I had a lap band in Nov07 after a stapling 20 yrs prior. I have lost 2 kg since the banding. I have been back to the surgeon 5 times since then for top ups - today will be number 6. Last time he went pat his comfort level on the fill and I could barely get fluid down for 3 days (lost 3 kg in those 3 days and put them back on when i started on small amounts of solids in the next 2 days) but by 2 weeks post fill I am back to eating nearly a full meal. I have virtually no restrictions. The surgeon last time withdrew all the fluid at my insistance to see if I had a leak and he was able to withdraw fliud from the band. Had xrays and the band is where it should be. I eat sensibly with a treat every couple of days - I am type 2 diabetic so I can not go too mad and the blood sugars are good so the food I am eating is not the cause just the amount has not decreased. This surgery was a last ditch effort to try and loose weight to help improve a severe back injury.

    Anyone Banded 9/5/07 ?

Knotta...that's cool! I know that I have a weird NSV. When I take a bath, I've always wanted my stomach covered with Water, but it never has. Just last week, I found out that if I suck it in, the water will cover my whole body. That was the first time ever. Weird, but I was WAY happy when it happened!

    *sigh*

Hang in there. I have read many posts where people say restriction can kick in a week or more after a fill. Wait a couple of weeks. If you still don't have any restriction, call and see if you can get another fill. It may take 3-4 before you get any real restriction. Until then, stay eating as healthy as possible and know that it should get easier in the future.
  11. I am so exited! I just got approved for financing! 12. Hi, can I get some advise please. I got my first fill a week ago tomorrow,I had 1.5 in at surgery and got 3 added. But tonight after having dinner I feel awful. Burning chest pain and sore shoulders. I feel like I need a massive burp. Have I just eaten to quickly, or do you think I have so,etching stuck. Will my pouch stretch because of this? I'm in agony! Size 22 to a size 16

Same here, I was size 20, 2xl, and now wearing size 14 - 16, depending on the clothing, or a large in tops. Shopping is pretty fun now, right? I'm in a stall but still dropping some inches so I guess I'll wait it out until I start losing again.

    Nightmares

I wouldn't say I have nightmares, but I did have very vivid dreams for about three mounths after I had the band placed. I still have vivid dreams sometimes but they normally occur after fills and are about food. An example would be that I totally binged and gained like 30 pounds in one sitting. I would wake up feeling like i was drowning in saliva from my mouth watering.
  16. May 13th. Only five weeks to go!! Really nervous but really excited.
  17. Hi, I started my 6 month supervised diet in January of this year (the end of January actually) and was going at the end of every month (about 30 to 31 days apart). At the end of June, my doctor was on vacation so my next appointment wasn't until the first week in July. My question is, will I have to start over since, technically, I missed the month of June, although I picked back up a few days latter in July? My other appointments resumed during the first week of each month there after. I am nervous because I don't want to start over or pick up from July; then that would be the second time I would have been set back because of dates. HELP:confused:

    Brand New and recovering...

I haven't been back in a while, sorry y'all. Just been working on healing. The ER trip a shortly after surgery wasn't much fun. I always seem to have a hard time recovering from any surgery that seems to do with the abdomen. Anyhow, been just over a month, doing pretty good. Doc kept me on liquids for the first whole month, I think to be safe. After a bit, I was getting where I was starving. Ended up doing a lot of cream of whatever soups, every two to three hours. So when I went to see him I gained back six lbs. Now I like my doc real well but he is such a "surgeon", all about results. In and out quickly. Tried to lecture me on the soups, *which is listed in the paperwork as a FULL liquid, and keep and mind he said no solids*, plus how I hadn't come to see him in a month. Hmmm, convenient, considering he went on vacation, so reschedule, then he was moving to a new office, they called and reschedule again! Grrrrrrrrrrrr. Anyways, last week he told me I was to go to Stage for eating within a week, did I get sick, yep, at least twice, got to slow down, listen to my body. Am I a little more satisfied, yes. I do realize, that I eat when I truly don't need to, so aware now. I have my first fill tomorrow, a little anxious, just hoping the port does not start to hurting real bad again, it just finally let up. Wish me luck, hope the rest of y'all are doing well.

    Can Anyone Else Identify?

Enjoy - staying in the present is hard to do; I have the same issue. I'm better now than I was years ago (I'm 58), but still find myself projecting what's to come. Just a suggestion.... When you find yourself reeling out of control mentally, pull back and focus on your breathing. That should bring you back into the present. Do it as many times as you need to do, to keep pulling yourself back. Worry is the illusion of control, so just focus on today I think the reality is, for most of us, that there will be times when we DO gain a pound or two. That is just life. The band doesn't make us perfect people, but it's a good tool to keep us in check. I was a lost cause and couldn't lose any substantial amount of weight to save my life. But now I'm near goal, which would never have happened without the band. A couple of weeks ago I saw a 2 pound gain on the scale. That was the first time since surgery. I know why I gained, but seeing it in black & white was a slap right back into reality. I've since lost those 2 pounds, plus another 2, and I'm back on track. Getting right back on track has always been my biggest issue, but I've done it over and over in the last 10 months. It's a fricken miracle! It sounds to me like you are doing just fine. A doctor said to me years ago, that long term weight loss isn't about being a perfect dieter. It's about being able to get right back on track when you go off. I think it's important to focus on making continual small changes, and keep your eye on the ball. Regarding tracking food, with the band, I think calories and Protein are the two most important things to track. If you have other health issues that require you to watch sodium, sugar and carbs, then certainly track those as well. But generally, calories and protein are the two major keys. At this point, I'm like gowalking....I no longer track my food because I eat the same most of the time.

    GERD

Hi everyone, I want to ask about post op GERD. I had some problem with this prior to surgery, but if I avoided trigger foods, I would be fine. About 2 weeks after surgery, I started getting really bad reflux on the full liquid diet. I am now on puréed foods and it persists despite the fact I am perfect in taking my Pepcid twice a day. Treating this with Tums but I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if it will improve with time. I will discuss it with the doc when I see him in a week, just wanted input. My thanks to all. This site has been wonderful.

    GERD

I had the same problem after surgery. The first few weeks I had horrible heartburn, but I rarely get it now. With all things, time is your friend.

Is it possible to lose too much?

When I show up for surgery tomorrow I'm not going out of my way to find a scale. They made me weigh in last week to verify I was on the liquid program. I obviously cant hide the weight loss if they insist I weigh in. I'll give you guys a for sure answer tomorrow after I get banded. Game on!
  23. Please tell me how much you lost on your 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I am wondering what to expect. Thank you for your input.

    No Restriction!?!?!

Sometimes it can take a few days or even weeks for restriction to kick in after a fill. I'd wait a couple weeks and see what happens.

    Portion sizes

I measured things out in a cup the first few weeks but changed over to just eyeballing food and eating till I was no longer hungry. It works better if you're in the green zone. If you're not, you could overeat but I refused to be hungry all the time. It's just a diet till you get enough fills to make you feel satiety. I have a decent scale but I seldom use it. It's mostly to make sure I'm using the correct weight of Protein for a recipe.
