Hey all, I have read posts here before, obtained info, and been grateful for what I've read as I don't really have anyone to talk to about my journey. Brief history: lap band surgery mid 2010. Started at 210 lost A LOT of weight--- lowest weight 130 had a baby girl summer 2015 top preg weight 154. NOW, have gained some weight, and am now 160 I weigh more than i did when i gave birth I have a hard time losing weight now i feel hungry and can eat more from time to time, i puke bc it just doesn't sit well w me but for the most part, i can eat i feel so so so awful bc i feel like I'm going backwards. saw my surgeon today. he said that i need to go to radiology to see if a fill is a good idea, but i am already filled to a put 8CC in a 10CC band. I'm thinking dilated esophagus. He said I was a little/slightly when I tried to get a fill back in Oct. of 2017. i guess we will see in two weeks. NOW, w KETO and all this stuff going around, I want to know if anyone has fasted for extended periods of time. Like, for 16-18-20 hours at a time. I am DESPERATE. I want to be able to slim my esophagus so I can get a fill. Does fasting or just being on a strict liquid diet help my esophagus become 'normal' again? Does it really help w weight loss? I feel so discouraged. I want to look the way I looked at 130 lbs. I felt great, so much confidence, so much drive... please give me some advice. i appreciate your time. THANK YOU

So I get a phone call this morning from my Surgeon himself asking a question on my history. Apparently my insurance company contacted them today asking for more information on a subject. I never smoked a cigarette in my life, but occasionally in the summer will smoke a cigar here and there with my husband. Somehow it got put in my medical history that I’m a smoker!? So he asked about this again because my insurance specifically says patient can not smoke in the past 6 months or it’s an automatic denial. Well I said the last time I had a cigar was last July and I never had a cigarette in my life. So he said he will adend that in my history and submit it so that problem was cleared. Then he said the second thing they are requesting is all my weights from the weight loss program I did for the last 2 years to see my BMI’s. I started in 2016 with a BMI of 42 but then dropped to a BMI of 34 briefly up until November of 2018 before I have steadily gained back up to BMI of 37 now. Only thing is insurance might likely deny me because I haven’t been over BMI of 35 for a full year. Which was a requirement for Fed BCBS. Praying they take into consideration my overall weight loss attempt the past 2 years. My surgery is scheduled for next Thursday and I’m freaking out! I just don’t have a good feeling now at all about getting approved.

My road to sleeve surgery...fingers crossed!
KimB7811 replied to KimB7811's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ok... haven’t kept up with this thread for a bit but I will catch you up to where I am at on this journey. Had my last surgeon visit last Friday and they set my surgery date for April 25th! I couldn’t believe it would be this soon but I took that date and ran! So off I went with my pre op lab slips and EKG that I needed to get done on a rush. That’s all done and everything came back great! Also got my surgery clearance from me primary Dr today. Everything is alllll set and I’m slowly stocking up on the stuff for pre/post op liquid diet. I have to do 5 days pre-op so I will start Saturday. Chicken broth and protein drinks for Easter!! However..... one small issue still. STILL waiting on insurance approval! This is insane! I’m so nervous it won’t be approved or approved in time for next Thursday! My surgeons office seem so confident it will be... even the surgeon himself checked in with my insurance on the status (fed BCBS) I called today and it’s still in review with the nurses they said. I just refuse to get really excited until I hear APPROVED!!! Say some prayers for me!!! -
Deliberately eating to much
FluffyChix replied to caryla's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Yikes! So it's good you recognize this is a problem. That's the first step. Now what to do? As everyone's said, you MUST talk to your surgeon. You just do. Second, weigh, measure and log every morsel that goes in your mouth. If you need 70g of protein for the day divide that between 3 meals + 1-2 small protein or veggie snack. ONLY measure/weigh out the amount of food needed for that meal. And as @MIZ60 said, only put the portion you can eat on the plate. When it's done, you're done until the next meal. I know, easier said than done but you can do it. Choose low cook, low reward foods for meals for the next couple of weeks. The idea is to spend as little time in the kitchen as possible, and think about food as little as possible. If it were me, here would be my plan--I would buy a rotisserie chicken and eat on it all week and use the bones for bone broth. That way you don't need to worry about cooking at night except to microwave some veg. Are you eating 1/2c food or 3/4c food by volume? B-2 eggs + 1tsp olive oil (cooked any way you want) 1 turkey sausage 1oz baby spinach wilted in pan where you cooked your egg L-2oz Tuna Pouch 1oz cottage cheese 1 tsp Dijon mustard 1tsp dill relish spices 1 lettuce leaf (to wrap it in) AS-1/2c Greek Yogurt (plain 1/4c frozen blueberries 7 drops liquid stevia D-2oz rotisserie chicken 1oz broccoli (microwaved) 1oz avocado 1/2oz grape tomatoes BS-1tbsp almond butter (or 14g almonds) Try to use tiny saucers, tiny forks and spoons, and eat as dense a protein and al dente veg that you tolerate. Stay very well hydrated during the day, but 15minutes before you meal, drink an entire 8-12oz glass of water. Drink 3/4 of it as quickly as possible, then sip the remaining until full. Stop at 15 minutes. Then do not drink anything for 2 hours after your meal. This is called water loading. It helps with satiety tremendously. See if this helps. -
Stalled already(!??) or insulin resistance?
Kellykellykelly replied to Kellykellykelly's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
THANK YOU! I too have PCOS and I have never heard from another’s experience with IR and PCOS, I can’t even tell you how helpful this is and how much hope it gives me. I too have been eating 1300/1500 calories for years and still gained. In the past it seemed that there was *nothing* I could do to make the scale budge, no matter how patient I was. My main motivation for the surgery was bc I have read quite a lot about how sleeve can immediately improve IR. As soon as the scale stopped last week my first thought was “oh no, here we go again”. Your story gives me so much hope (something I haven’t had in years)! Thank you!!!! -
Exercise/Energy Supplements - Not tired anymore!
mousecat88 posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
So, I've been tired my whole life. LOL. No, seriously. Since I was about 13, I remember being constantly tired. Like could barely keep my eyes open on a daily basis tired. And I was not overweight until age 20 and not obese until a few years ago, so it wasn't weight-related. Had all the thyroid and metabolic testing under the sun blah blah blah. Used to force myself to be active in sports, etc, when I was thinner, too... still tired af. Anyways, the last several weeks I've been taking a number of different supplements alleging to help with energy that are caffeine/stimulant-free. And I have actually noticed a substantial difference within the last two weeks. For the first time IN MY LIFE I feel awake during the day; like I don't need a mid-day nap. I am taking several so I don't know which is the effective one, but thought I'd share the list. Honestly, I figured most of these things are placebo or some BS woo crap, but one of them is genuinely making a big difference. It's either the arginine or the inosine, I think, because the T2 and chia I've been taking a while now to no effect. ThyroTwin - Thyronine (T2) - a.m. L-Arginine - noon Inosine - noon Beet root extract - p.m. Chia seed extract - a.m. -
I'm a "newbie" veteran. Current weight, 308. Goals...to push through my internal bs and restart this thing. Surgery:RNY Did I do this right?

When I reach 110 kg and I could not shed it whith dieting I’ve decided that I I need all the help I can get. I started looking In bariatric surgeries and I fed all I could find for two weeks. Then I decided to have the bariatric surgery so I went to the doctor and he told me that I qualify for a gastric sleeve. Next week I had all the investigations done and was scheduled for surgery very quickly, after just another week. I had the surgery on 3rd of April and I stayed in the hospital for three days. The first day in ATI was pure hell not because I felt any pain but because I was very very nauseous from the naso-gastric tube they inserted. The second day I was moved in a normal room and got rid of all the tubes except the perfusions. I started walking and I felt just normal, no pain except for when I drank too quickly. Now I am home, 11 days post op, and finished the first week of liquid diet. I’m now in the cream soup phase for another two weeks. Then for another week I have to eat all the food in purée form. My main challenge is that I crave other foods, like yesterday I felt I would kill for a bite of burger. It’s true, the hunger sensation disappeared, but the cravings did not. At some point I felt so so frustrated that I could almost cry. I know for sure that if I do not respect this post op diet and I eat something wrong, too solid, it just comes up and I regurgitate it... I also find it hard to drink all the necessary water but I keep a bottle with me and try to do it. I take all the Bariatric vitamins and minerals prescribed, take protein supplements and do my heparin shots. I lost 13 pounds in the first week and I hope that I will keep the trend even if it’s slower in the future. My question to you is how quickly you started to eat solid foods after the surgery? How did it feel? Do you also have cravings? How do you deal with them? Thanks and good luck to you all!

Sharp pain in belly after I swallow, but disapates quickly
Colorado Cowgirl replied to CBIX's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes it happens to me. 11 days out. I think it happens bc I swallow too much at a time. I find that if I space out smaller sips it doesn't happen. -
I’m so sorry you had that happen. Honestly if they are general caring people it’s probably more thoughtlessness. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. If they are general not nice people then it’s intentional. Usually I find people who bring people down intentionally are usually miserable and unhappy. They want you feeling like them. So much BS.

Unsupportive Caregiver
Rozay replied to betterlate2019's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still pre-op but I can sort of relate. My mother & I live in the same house & we’ve been having it out ever since I told her I wanted to take this journey. I had plans on telling her at the absolute last min but it was recommended to meet w/ your surgeon for the first time with the person who would be around w you immediately following surgery. Well she sang a diff tune during the appt when the surgeon kind of “put her in her place” abt the crazy notions she had abt other ppl who’s journey’s that have been unsuccessful & the dangers. She’s not healthy AT ALL. Breast cancer, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, constant joint pains.... so I know better than to really take in everything she says 🤷🏾♀️ but she’s my mother & I know, if needed, she would kill for me but in this situation, I’m looking forward to dealing w/ this on my own. She’s not going to be of any help AT ALL. I had a revelation a couple weeks ago because the first argument we had about the way she “supports” me, I cried & realized this is why they make you have psych evals. They say you may face depression & changing relationships & that sh*t is hard. It was a sadness I hadn’t felt in a long time & I thought she would be happy I’m not falling into another generational curse. I’m preparing myself as much as possible to focus on what I need bc I also know that stress has adverse reactions on health & weight loss as well so I can’t worry about the dependence of anyone else anymore. Newly in a relationship & my boyfriend even told me to come stay w/ him for 2 weeks but I don’t wanna put that on him. Anyway, be strong! You have such a community here & I know we are all rooting for each other. Months/years from now, you’ll realize how much stronger you are for having to deal w/ family the way you have. You’ll be happy that you’re healthy & don’t have to be a slave for the junk that got us in these bad spots to begin with. YOU’VE GOT THIS! -
Where to start ... Three days ago I had surgery. Prior arrangements were made for my mom to be my caregiver. I was hesitant because she didn’t have time for me then so how could she ever make time to care for me now I’m my time of need ? But she said she would so I let it go. She went to the meetings and appointments - now fast forward to the day of surgery and every day after she is a goner! From the time she saw I was able to walk regularly during my first hospital walk - she has thrown me to the wolves. Since discharge I have been on my own and the sad part is we live in the same house. She doesn’t help me walk , prep for liquids , assist with lifting or bending ( I literally had to beg her to get someone to unclog my bathroom tub drain so I could take my first shower since surgery today) , track intake , remind of breathing exercises and is rarely around to help even though she says if you need help just let me know - TRICK HOW when you’re gone or unavailable 3/4 of the day ?! Then to put the icing on the cake 🎂 for the past two to three weeks her as well as everyone who lives in the home as well have been ordering fast food and takeout constantly , eating junk food they never would and inviting me as well as others out to “dinner” ( never did before found out was having surgery) - why so you can call me even fatter ?! And then look at me crazy when I order a salad or have to make alterations in order for the meal to be considered healthy ? No thanks i’ll pass. Anyway I’m Just fed up - she was supposed to go on this liquid diet with me but so far it’s just been talk and oh i’ll start tomorrow. Tomorrow never comes. Junk continues to be eaten right in front of me as if they are trying to tempt me - but newsflash Dipshits - THAT PART OF MY BODY IS NO LONGER PRESENT - IT GOT CUT OUT 3 DAYS AGO ! I’m just sick of all the antics , comments and unsupportiveness. One of my stitches ripped I guess from lifting something earlier and then my leg started to cramp - maybe I was dehydrated / needed to walk to avoid clots - who knows , but I did walk and cannot stomach anymore liquid today. Starting tomorrow I’m going to see if an home nurse can stop by daily because this “help” isn’t just not working for me . And then they wonder why I’m so angry now ?! Psssssh ! Vent over . Any comments ?

Sleeve revision to bypass
clrobinson2014 replied to Colorchic's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Mj did you get the revision bc of acid reflux or weight gain? How long did it take to get approved? If it was due to Gerd, did you have to do a lot of tests to get approved? I was told I would have to do like 3 tests; scope, swallow test and another test where a device is attracted to my esophagus , I wear a device around my waist and everytime I experience acid reflux I press a button and it takes a pic and measures the amt of acid -
I’ve lost too much weight!!! Help
Frustr8 replied to lorena090's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Girl, you do need see someone even if a free or nearly free clinic. You're gonna end up in the hospital I did for malnourishment and protein anemia. Ended up being fed 12 hours a day through an arm vein even after I went home, 3 months until it was discontinued. Grateful I'm still alive but what a path I have traveled! -
Hi Louise!! I want to 1st commend you for not cheating or wrong any sweets and carbs! WHEW!! I too have been going up and down between 1-3 lbs difference on the scale. I think taking measurements of inches would be good for you to take. I'm down from a 3x to a 2x loosely and down at least 4 pants sizes comfortably as well, let's both try to stay away from that STUPID SCALE![emoji3]And get back to focusing on what really is important, our overall health! We can start sharing recipes as well to give us all different ideas of fid we can try and enjoy without the guilt bc this is our lifelong goals, TO BE HEALTHIER! KEEP PUSHING DEAR! HOLY BANANAS!! Fast Track and I am still debating
gabybab replied to cmandrews13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr recommends bypass, buy I chose sleeve. I have type 2 diabetes. Its veen 6 weeks and my bs are normalizing. I only take 10 units of lantus at night now. Hopefully I will be off that soon. -
A waist trainer (according to my surgeon) won’t help you with shape. The only thing that will help with loose skin is hard exercise. I do suggest a stomach binder for recovery, it REALLY made a huge difference in controlling the pain. I was given one at a follow up appt, but I would buy one on Amazon if I were you! Last I checked they were like $17. You don’t need anything special, just some compression around your stomach to help with incision and muscular pain. I started wearing mine on top of a T-shirt bc it chaffed.

I fed the d%&$ food troll 😢

There will be loose skin bc of how rapid the weight loss is. Start exercising and weight training as soon as you get cleared to. Also, lotion lotion lotion. Keep your skin moisturized. Other than that the rest is genetics...some people have great elasticity and others not. My skin is loose but I didn’t weight train right away...wish I did. I am now. I’m 44 as well. But ill take the loose skin over how big I got any day!!

Congrats to you as well! It feels nice to be so close to goal but still doesn't feel real. I am a conversion from Lapband and my weight was never this low and still cannot wrap my mind around it. So my advice as far as plastic surgery.....Research, Research, Research....I have been looking into this for awhile because I knew at some point I would have it done, I didn't think it would be 9 months after surgery. I knew, no matter what, I wanted a tummy tuck and breast lift. On top of being up and down with so much weight, I have also had two pregnancies and breast fed both babies. My boobs a huge flat saggy pancakes that hang to my belly button. I thought I would have my boobs done first, then tummy tuck but I decided, after several consults with different doctors, I am going to do both together. I am also a candidate for an arm lift, inner thigh lift, and lower body lift, I said no **** lllllllll......Those are not my priorities in any way and not sure I would ever consider them...I just knew I wanted my belly and boobs...They are awful in my opinion so I will do both together, which typically both are done together if people want both, no safety issue for having to have two surgeries....

I have BC/BS Fep too. I’m really nervous for submission because of being on the low BMI side. Only 35.5/36. I have 2 co morbidities (Hypertension and Severe Osteoarthritis in my knee). My surgeon said he feels pretty confident I will have no issue with my insurance and those issues for approval but I’m doubtful. He said BC/BS is one of the better ones for approvals too. I’m sorry you got denied GTGirl. But fight the insurance on it. You’ll get it.

What, you had NO surgery complications?
Sheribear68 replied to Healthy_life2's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
50yo and was sleeved on 2/6/19. Even though it hasn’t even been 2 months yet, I’m feeling great about the whole thing. Pre-op was exactly how I thought it would be, and I have no hospital horror stories. I knew going in that this was going to be something I had to work to get through so I was super-motivated from the moment I was taken back to my room to get drinking and moving. In fact, after about a half hour visit with my family right after they got me to my room, I kicked them all out because I had work to do and was serious about it. Was released the next day and never took one single pain pill beyond the first few hours post op. Okay, so my abs were sore, but I’d just had abdominal surgery. I just knew it was something I had to put up with for a few days and then the discomfort was hardly there. Started walking a couple miles a day 3 days post-surgery. Flew cross country to my nephews wedding 17 days post. Went back to work 20 days post. Started Pilates 3 weeks post. Transitioned from liquids to purées, to solids when I was supposed to and each time the transition went smoothly. Each week I learn something new about my new stomach (2 weeks ago was the epiphany that it won’t kill me if I skip breakfast bc my sleeve is pretty tight in the morning) and even though I had a stall starting on day 12 that lasted for 20 days, I’ve still lost 31 pounds in the last 7.5 weeks. I’ve already moved down 2 clothing sizes and it is sooooooo much easier to move and live in my body than it was 2 months ago. I still have 60-70 pounds til I’m at goal weight, and just the difference in how I feel from losing the first 30 pounds makes me so excited for the next few months. That feeling overcomes any negative feelings that “missing out” on food might give me. Every day I ask myself if I would do it again and the answer is always yes. -
I have BC, and needed Either a diagnosis of Morbid Obesity OR obesity with 2 co morbidities, such as Diabetes and severe sleep apnea. Without those 2 co-morbities they won't approve you at a low BMI. I'm sorry you're going thru this. I know it is really discouraging. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I have meet all requirements for the bypass surgery however BC requires a diagnosis code of Morbidly obese even though I dont fall under that based on my BMI. I fall in the Obese with a co morbidity. Anyone else have this problem and what diagnosis code did you use. So frustrated. Its been a year. Ive done all the preliminary work I just need the approval for the surgery. So ready to move forward.

Anyone use Weight Watchers to satisfy the 3/6 months nutritional program and get approved?
New&Improved replied to toni1881's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really don't get that requirement like if we could lose weight on our own we wouldn't be having surgery and obviously they can see your struggles with weight and your co-morbidities.. no diet has worked before why will it now...... So glad in Australia all I've had to do was see Dr then surgeon then Dietician then have surgery... No silly weight loss plans or psychological BS...
