I found out today there's leak either in my port or the tube right after the port.. So I have to go in next week to have revision surgery, and they're moving the port while they're there so it's easier to access. While I watched the contrast go into the port and then just SPLOOSH into my body, it made me cry and I feel like the band is not going to work for me.. like I'm doomed for failure. That's why I never felt proper restriction, so I know the PLUS SIDE is that when they fix it, I'll be able to find a sweet spot.. But for now, I'm dejected about the whole situation. How long does the depression of knowing you have to be 'fixed' last?

December Surgery dates???
Tillawen replied to Kimmerz23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having a revision from a Lap-Band I had done ~13 years ago to gastric bypass on 12/09. Two week pre-op diet of 5 protein shakes, 2/fruitv& 2/veggies per day has been tolerable. Nerves are starting to get to me...trying to stay occupied. Have to be at the hospital at 5 AM on Monday, bright and early. -
Need band removal...thinking sleeve...
annak4 replied to SamieTeacher's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think you would definitely need two weeks off of work. I had my sleeve on 12/22 and go back to work next week, 1/4. There is no way I could have gone back this week. I'm a HS counselor so I just used the holiday break as part of my recovery. Which didn't make for the best Christmas, but I HATE to miss work! I am a band revision as well and know that all I learned to do with the band will pay off with the sleeve. The eating guidelines are so much the same. I lost 70 lbs with the band but gained 40 back. Good luck! -
Lightweights in the house! Any more people with less to lose/less BMI's?
ribearty replied to MumtazG38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor's office and I have received verbal approval from ins. co. for my surgery. In order to get a surgery date, my doctor's office requires a written letter. The letter was mailed on 9/18. Hope it arrives on 9/25. I am a band to sleeve revision patient. My ins. co. waived the six month supervised diet criteria due to band complications. Looking at a 10/8 if available by the time I get written approval. If that date is unavailable I will have to wait until 10/25 due to work obligations. -
Banded 2010, revision to bypass on Thursday 2/3/15.. (Depending on scar tissue) Doctor has me on complete liquid diet for the next 2 days. I'm getting a little nervous. I know I've already had WLS once, but it seems strangely different this time. I can't explain it. Has anyone else experienced mixed emotions?

Revision from Band - Surgeon wants sleeve, I want bypass!
amyg80 replied to Taunter's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had band to sleeve revision on 12/1, and have lost 20lbs so far. With the band I only lost 25lbs and then got preg and gained 50. For me the sleeve was my personal choice and I couldn't be more pleased. I have about 95lbs total to go, but I think with any surgery/diet plan you have to be compliant. I know people who have had the bypass and 5yrs later are heavier then when they had surgery. For me cutting out my stomach is drastic enough. I don't want to mess with my bowels. If this fails it's my own doing. It's a personal choice, and one you need to decide after research and self analysis. You know what you can handle. No one else does. Good luck. -
Revision from Band - Surgeon wants sleeve, I want bypass!

I didn't have a revision, but. When I met with my surgeon I was wanting the sleeve and he said bypass because of my medical history. -
Revision from Band - Surgeon wants sleeve, I want bypass!
marimar66 replied to Taunter's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I agree, after spending 11 years with a worthless band I would have never revised to the sleeve. In less than 5 months I have had more success with gastric bypass than I did with all the years with the band. I just get happier everyday that I had it done. Revision from Band - Surgeon wants sleeve, I want bypass!
Cervidae replied to Taunter's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
If the doctor can't give you a concrete medical reason that the sleeve would be better for you despite your desire for the RNY, I would be a little suspicious of his motives and skills. There are legitimate reasons some people should have the sleeve over the bypass but if he honestly can't give you any and is pushing something you don't want... I don't know if I would feel comfortable continuing at that office. This is your body and whichever procedure you get is going to change you and your life forever. It should be your decision if there are no medical reason's otherwise. That being said, there are a lot of people who start at a high bmi and have a lot of success with the sleeve, from what I've seen. I personally chose the RNY because my weight when I started the program was about 400 pounds and I wanted the most bang for my buck. Not to mention, a LOT of people who get the sleeve eventually have to revise to bypass anyway. One major surgery is enough for me. -
Lap Band Removal Today @ 3 - I’m sooo scared!
voldemort replied to CC722's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I often wonder if I should consider removal. I had my band placed in Oct 2010. Last April I had an issue and had all the fluid removed. Apparently I had learned nothing about food consumption and that resulted in about a 50 lb weight gain. Almost a year later, I have some restriction but the weight is barely falling off. I am afraid that if I got a revision, I would just gain more weight again. -
How do you maintain your weight loss?
Arabesque replied to IcanMakeit's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
We’re the same height & about the same weight. I struggled to find my maintenance point too & lost about another 12kgs. I’m only 2yrs out but it took me a year of increasing my calories to find the right balance & stop losing. As I couldn’t really increase my portion size for my meals (I physically couldn’t eat any more) I added snacks - what felt & still seems like lots of snacks. I was eating 5-6 nutritionally beneficial snacks a day. Now I eat 3-5 a day just depending. I’m pretty consistent in what I eat. My lowest weight was 48.2kg but for the last 6 months I usually sit at about 49kg (swing 48.5-49.5). I have dropped a bit lately (been 47.9 a couple of times) because I haven’t been overly hungry or interested in eating. I’m sure this will pass. If not I’ll have to work harder at getting in my 1200 calories which seems to be my golden number. Are you still tracking & weighing your food? Do you have a caloric goal or average number you consume in each day? I do random checks to ensure I haven’t misread caloric or nutritional information or am misjudging portion size - it’s easy to under or over estimate. I suggest going back to your dietician & revising your daily food intake for a few weeks with them. There may be something you’re missing & they should be able to recommend or advise on a plan forward. My medical team were concerned at first especially when I was still losing but they’re ok now cause I’m stable. I’m pretty small boned so I don’t mind being on the lower end of the BMI scale. (For years I was told I was big boned but it was just fat - lol!) Congratulations on losing your regain. Good luck. -

snuffy65, if you go back and perform historical revisions (changing your prior comments to add new arguments), I will likely miss them. If you have something new to say, please put it in a new post (that is, if you want me to respond. If, like in Congress, you just want the record to reflect something that didn't actually happen at the time of the discussion, continue editing away). -
Thank you for your words of encouragement! Sorry about your reflux, I can definitely say that the revision has completely corrected that issue for me, I wish you luck and hope all goes well. As far as my protein intake, I think I have been managing fairly well especially last week. Since I knew I was going to overexert myself I upped my protein and even reached 100g a couple of the days. I am still early on so I am limited on what I can/cant eat and I am terrified of dumping so I have stayed away from carbs and sugar altogether.

Official August thread! Where are you guys?
Pinkpeonies1 replied to Faithoftheheart's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everybody, August 4th is my date. Jennylew we are on the same boat, I am also having a revision from lapband although my band was taken out August '13 due to complications. I'm not sure what procedure you're having, I'm going with the RNY this time around. Also having weird dreams and don't know how to interpret them and I worry. I tell myself it's part of my anxiety and try not to dwell on it too long. I am waiting for test dates which coordinator is working on that now... hopefully in the next couple of weeks. I have stocked up on supplements, Soups, Protein, and Jello as well so I'm just playing the waiting game now. I'm new to this forum and not sure how to add friends but keep in touch and let me know how your process goes. Good luck to you all. -
Bandiversary Today, But Dr Wants To Take It Out ) =
Cocoabean replied to Lianne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds as though he fears a slip. And this would/could be a second. I read somewhere that if you've had one slip you are more likely to slip again. If it is a second, that could explain the need to remove the band. The endoscopy will give a good idea of what is going on from inside the stomach, and show possible erosion. I'd want to REALLY talk to my surgeon about why he wants to revise to another procedure, then I'd probsbly do it. But I trust my surgeon, and my primary care doc, they work together as a team. My primary care doc had gastric bypass by my surgeon a year after I got my band. My band really tightened up on me for about 6 weeks four moths after my last fill, so we are going to do an edoscope to be sure all is right. I had an uuper GI in Sept right bedore the fill. Everthing was fine then. -
Band revised to sleeve 11/29/17
Biddy zz 🏳️🌈 replied to dhigg68's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi there I had my band revised to RNY 6 weeks ago. I do wonder if the band has made me not so good at portion control - I seem to be lousy at recognising when I am full. So I take my lunch every day. A can of tuna or salmon or pack of shredded chicken, and a bit of fruit or veggie. I think lunch is my easiest “go off the rails” meal, so I prepare each evening - hope that helps. 40lbs! What a fantastic thing, you must be so pleased! Inspirational... -
Butt flap - Anyone have?
SorryNameTaken replied to apiane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YES! I have it and I'm wondering how much worse it will get after my revision. I honestly haven't been doing anything to try to fill it out as of yet, so hopefully someone will have some great tips on exercises. I looked into beach body's Brazilian butt, but never ended up doing it. Youtube probably has some good workouts too. -
My paperwork was submitted yesterday to Tricare. Today I checked the website and it has approved everything but the surgery. It says the surgery is pending review, but they approved the fills and a port revision incase I need that. So should I just assume I am approved? I am so excited Hopefully I will get banded this month. woohoo:thumbup:

Gained weight on purpose?
Rachel412 replied to Sparkles21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was around 36 or 37 BMI when my primary care doctor suggested I gain weight to get to 40 BMI to have a revision from band to RNY. When I first weighed in I was instructed not to gain any more weight- but also not to lose any! It's HARD to stay at 40 legitimately. Weighing down your pockets... That's a dangerous game to play. -

Calling all June '16 sleevers!
bellasmommy99 replied to shrinkingkimber's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey June friends!!! I had my revision surgery on Friday and am doing well. This morning I wasn't able to get more than a sip of water down, but this evening I am able to drink a tiny bit more and it took me 3 hours to eat (drink) a SF JELLO. I am not going to weight myself for a while due to swelling and healing. So happy I am done and on the mend. Hubby said it may be time to wash my hair. So that will be my first big task in the morning. The liquid hydrocodone works very quickly and puts me to sleep in about 15 minutes. I also use a heating pad on low and that helps a ton. Seems to being textbook for me. Good luck to everyone. I will keep you posted. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Gallbladder can't be taken out during surgery?
shedo82773 replied to janedoe92's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My hubby had his failed revision from his Lap -Band to a RNY and the plan was to remove his gallbladder at the same time They did take out his band and his gallbladder at the same time!! 3 years later he finally had his Sleeve done. So I wonder why someone who was already having surgery and they know there is a problem with his gallbladder why they wouldn't do it at the same time. -
Choosing between bypass and sleeve
Matt Z replied to nrbradley0's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally, the Bypass is my choice. I had the band installed in 2011, long story short, I was revised to the bypass this past march. There are a decent number of folks that end up having their sleeves converted to bypass as well. The Sleeve has issues with GERD and acid reflux that the bypass doesn't have, Not sure why he even offered the band, even 2 of the largest band manufacturers have given up on it at this point. Good luck in your progress forwards! -
New, Dazed and Confused
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to David in Washington's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lap Band to RNY for severe GERD. I haven't dumped yet and don't think I will be a dumper. I gave up Celebrex seven months before revision surgery and have been fine. (RA patient here) I have virtually zero pain. Losing weight helps reduce inflammation and reduce the need for nsaids it seems. And you're right, you don't want wls induced GERD. It sucks. Meds won't even help when you get this type of GERD. All I can speak to is my personal experiences and comparing RNY to lap band, which I know is antiquated now but RNY feels completely natural to me and I'd do it again if I had to all over again and could choose from any wls. Best wishes!
