Pulling and pain at main incision site 5 weeks post sleeve
abiebaby posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone had this happen? Pain is more like a dull ache than anything else. Just wondering if what I am feeling is the early stages of a hernia? Sent from my SM-G986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Pulling and pain at main incision site 5 weeks post sleeve
abiebaby replied to abiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the reassurances. I did have a stitch cut at 1 week out to help drain a hematoma, so I guess this could just be because the rest of the stitches are dissolving. Haven't been cleared for exercise until next week, so I guess I'll see what happens then. Sent from my SM-G986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I had my band in 01/05 and to me it was very painful the first 4 days. I have a very low tolerance for pain. I had my revision on 12/20/13 and it was painless, hardly any pain, I was a little tender on left side for abt two to three days. I was really nervous abt the pAin w the sleeve. I had watch several u tube videos..some said no pain and others said worst pain in their life. So I wasn't really sure what to think. I was really scared but went ahead with it. When I came to I couldn't believe that it didn't hurt. I was pleasantly surprised and oh so relieved. No my only problems was EXTREME nausea and Diarrhea... My diarrhea has stop and the nausea not quiet as bad. Good luck in your venture

Well, I just told my husband about my decision to get the lap band surgery. I had not told anybody but my best friend a few weeks ago when I was going to the seminar because I knew she would just listen and not judge or try to convince me one way or the other. Hubby can tend to be a bit negative and always points out the bad, so I chose not to tell him until I had chosen because, frankly, this is about and for me. All he knew was that I was going to all these doctor appointments and knew I had something going on but didn't want to talk to him about it just yet. Until tonight. He was amazingly supportive and happy that out of all the WLS out there, I had chosen this one because it was not as drastic as so many others out there. I was so surprised that I started crying. He asked if I was sad about this, and I said no... just emotional. There's a part of me that is SO excited to begin this new journey, yet another little voice in my head said I failed or wasn't strong enough to do this myself. He shushed me and said that's not true at all... this is just a tool, and I will still have the work to do. I just need some help, and that's okay. He even asked, if it was okay with me, if he could go with me to meet with the nutritionist when that time comes because he does a lot of the cooking and wants to know what will be best for me. How fantastic is that? Wow.

How long dose the gas last?
RestlessMonkey replied to nicki18229's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The burping isn't from the operative gas. They pump gas into you to spread things out a bit and make surgery easier. That gas dissipates over a week or so (if you don't have a good surgeon who removes most of it for you). The other...got news for you. It will be around a while. That's one reason they say early on to not use straws (you swallow air, and that means burps etc) Buy Gas X...and try to get used to it. I've just NOW gotten to where I don't sit around and burp for an hour or two after meals. I STILL burp if I eat a little too much. It isn't wonderful, but it's do-able. -
I'm going to a consult next week. Any one locally know of any other doctors that are good. Please leave your insurance type in response as well, Thanks.

I think I had a food funeral for about three weeks before I had to go on my liquid diet. Then I actually got sick of my food funeral and was ready to give it all up. Enjoy the food of the holidays. I agree with Lorraine.

He has had a fever for three days- managed with motrin just fine. SO I am just waiting to see if anyone else gets sick. I bet you will feel much better by Tues or Wed just in time!!! -
Am I getting enough protein/fluids
Foxbins replied to Deliah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep track of your fluids. Some people use the same-sized glass and fill it up the same each time and count the glassfuls, others fill a big container and when it's empty they know how much they have drunk. Dehydration will be reflected in your urine color--you want it to be straw-colored or lighter. If it's yellow, drink more. Insofar as "getting enough of what you need" you are living off your fat stores right now. Yes, your caloric intake is low, but you have thousands and maybe tens of thousands of calories stored in your fat. Your body is going to use that to supplement the calories you take in from food for a long time. I began taking vitamins and calcium citrate at 2 weeks after surgery. I found a liquid calcium citrate at Costco.com that tastes good and fits with my low-carb plan, it's called Reviva. Chewy calcium citrate can be gotten from baratric websites like Celebrate but I think they are expensive and full of sugar. I am taking Centrum chewables for vitamins and they are okay if you wash them down with water after you chew. -
Not yet I have a appt to see her but I was just curious cause I did have a stricture and am three weeks out but still on clear liquids

My surgeon's office game me a Diet progression sheet and it says I can have low-fat/low-sugar yogurt the second day after surgery. I have the day after surgery as clear liquid then I go to full liquid for 2 weeks which include yogurt

Not enough protein
SerendipityHappens replied to chas-northshore's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am one week out and didn't have much luck when I mixed with milk so I tried coconut milk and it worked great. I use Jay Robb protein powder which mixes up really thin... you can even add it to sf juices or water and you taste no thickness at all. -
I am envious, I hope to get where you are soon. Tomorrow will be my 1 month and I have had my ups and down. I am going on vacation in 3 weeks and I can go back tot he gym in the pool in 2. Back Pain 3 Weeks Post Op/ Emotions
MinaT replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Know that I felt the same way you do right now. I slept with an ice pack in the middle of my back. Not all surgeries are alike and if you had a hernia or adhesions they have to put a lot more pressure on you. I didn't even have back pain before surgery when I was over 300 pounds and I was 229 when I had surgery. The back pain is alleviating now. I was 200-300 calories at 3 weeks forcing down isopure to get extra Protein in (I had a day at 3 weeks I got in 17 grams of protein). If you can't walk 20 minutes - do 10 minutes take a break do another 10 minutes - then take a break and if you can squeek in another 10 do that. It gets better, I promise you. I hope your surgeon or Nurse has some words of wisdom for you or you can find some back relief soon. -
One week anniversary
janinemm replied to Mrs.Harkness's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 2.5# first week when I went to post op. Dr says actually lost about 18# cuz of iv fluids. I am now 2.5 weeks post op and am down about 18#. It will all fall off. Be patient. -
I haven't lost very much either (about 6 weeks out) and my surgeon said that most of this first month was a healing time. I've only got one fill and have only lost 2 pounds since having it. It's achingly slow BUT I figure it will just help me in the long run. Don't get discouraged and if you're doing everything they said then no, you're not doing anything wrong. The perfection of the "green zone" will bring regular loss and it won't come until after a few fills probably. Hang in there and keep following the instructions and it will come.

One week anniversary
Patti T. replied to Mrs.Harkness's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will be one week for me tomorrow. I feel like I am healing well. Getting my protein shakes down, still struggling to make 64oz of fluid a day though. I've only lost 2 lbs this week which isn't anywhere near what I thought I would lose the first week. It's disappointing. -
3.5 Mos Out & Need Advice!
Catracks replied to kayte819's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It may just be a normal stall and/or your body readjusting. I hit one at 3.5 months and am just coming out of it. Funny thing: I really did lose inches. I dropped a pant size during the "stall." You can try to shock your body out of it. but I thinks it's normal and an actually healthy part of the weight loss process. -
I had my pre-op appt yesterday and they stressed to me NOT to weigh every day. They said once a week, same time, same day. However, we all know how hard that is because we want to see if we are making progress. Congrats to you and keep the good work. I'm sure I will be stepping on the scale more often than I am suppose to in the beginning to.
-
add me to the ones whose plans count protein shakes as liquids...also, my dr told me not to worry much about reaching the protein and liquid goals the first couple of weeks...I was only getting in about 40 to 50 ounces of liquids and 40 or 50 g of protein, and he was ok with that

Sick. Sore throat, and low grade fever
So Cal Kurt replied to sarahh1828's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Remember, no aspirin or ibuprofen a week before surgery. Feel better. -
I was totally exhausted after my surgery for about 6 weeks - the more protein I got in the less exhausted I felt - also started taking vitamins and that helped, too.

Getting Banded Dec. 22nd!!! Have ALOT of Pre-Surgery Questions!!!
BetterWithTime replied to BetterWithTime's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hmmm I'll ask him about plication as well. My sister is getting the sleeve and my mom is worried about her cutting part of her stomach out. Maybe plication could be the solution. Does he know if it is reversible? My sister found out about. Dr.V. She was referred to him. I'm not sure from whom. I originally was gonna go to a different doctor but after she told me how good he was, I agreed to go to him. He's doing both our surgeries back to back. I'm so excited for her more than myself. She's a size 26 and such a beautiful person inside and out and I know that the surgery will make her so happy. Dr. V is very realistic and isn't out to make money. He didn't want to do the sleeve on me because he said I was too young and that the lap band would serve as a boost to me losing weight. And that in about 5 years he wants to remove it. I'm just dreading the adjustments. Every 5 weeks!? Lol but hey I'm ready to start my new life so I'm not complaining. -
I was exhausted the first two weeks and very emotional. It's normal - you had major surgery and you are healing. Get water and rest and be gentle to yourself.
