Had my ultrasound today re: check gallbladder and liver. 7/9 cardio 7/10 pcp medical clearance 7/13 psych 7/16 afternoon consultation with 3rd surgeon. First surgeon consultation sucked. Their website is misleading the doc I was scheduled to see only does sleeves and “we can also use a second option such as weight loss medication”. I was in his office for 5 minutes and seemed like he wasn’t interested in what I had to say. Later in the week I found out about him only doing sleeves via web seminar. I cancelled all my follow ups with him. Second surgeon I like but I don’t love (they are pushing me to do a bypass) and we shall see about the third surgeon. Third surgeon did my cousin’s lapband to RNY revision. She loves him! anyways just sharing my experience. I think is important to do your research and not just jump into something. I am all about vibes and being heard. 7/16 endoscopy during the morning. Still waiting for my second surgeon’s office to schedule my nutritionist appointment. If I don’t hear back by tomorrow. I’ll call Wednesday. i should be done with all my preop appointments by 7/20. Praying my insurance approves and I get to confirm my September date. -

Hello All, In 1998 I had a VGB. I did really well with it, and I went from 302 to 155. Now after suffering for years with Gerd I have developed Gastritis. I have also regained all but 80 pounds. I saw a baratric surgeon last Thursday and I will be able to get it done quicker because I have been through it all before and did rather well with weight loss. I had the Barium swallow test last week and it showed as soon as I swallowed it would come part way up my esophagus. Next week I get the EDG I look forward to meeting with you all and all that I can learn from you. I know the revision will be completely different from the VBG. Lynda

Bowel Prep - Gastric Bypass tomorrow!
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to amaynard's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I didn’t have to do a bowel prep for my gastric bypass surgery because I think the 2 week pre op diet probably took care of everything but I have done a few before colonoscopies... not fun. Good luck with your surgery. -
I am currently drinking this bowel prep. I was prescribed the Peg 3350, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Bicarb & Potassium Chloride solution. It is 4 Liters, but the directions say most only need 3 Liters before the BMs are clear water without solids. Anyone had experience with this? I am at 1.5 liters and am having a hard time getting anything else in >.<

Good luck to you! I know that I'm super lucky that I only have a 2 day clear liquid diet prep before my bypass surgery on Wednesday. So far today I've had beef broth, Gatorade Zero, and sf jello. Get some rest tonight! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Self-Pay surgeon who will operate on past nissen fundoplication.
RickM replied to 12345shs16's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
The best that I can think of would be Dr. Ara Keshisian out here in California, as he is one of the handful of docs that can do the complex RNY to DS revision, and he seems to be able to do other complicated procedures that others can't or won't do. Closer to you, Drs. David Greenbaum in NJ and Mitchell Roslin in NYC are also well regarded for complex procedures and worth consulting. Good Luck.... -
Does Allulose cause dumping?
Briswife15 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Just a follow up for those of you interested. I have experimented with this, and as far as I can tell, Allulose does NOT cause dumping in bypass patients. Ymmv Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
HELP! Still can’t eat and constantly nauseous
Briswife15 replied to Kim36UK's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm like Frustr8. At 3 weeks post bypass I was diagnosed with a severe stricture and marginal ulcers. 3 months post op now, and just had my 5th endoscopy with dilation on Friday. I couldn't eat or drink much without feeling nauseous and having difficulty swallowing. Go back to your surgeon please! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
HELP! Still can’t eat and constantly nauseous
Frustr8 replied to Kim36UK's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
At 6 weeks I had an Endoscopy which proved what I had been complaining about since 2 weeks past. I am post- RNY BYPASS, my pouch has ulcerations, the opening between my pouch and the 2nd section of the small intestine , the jejunem, was so narrowed only liquids were able to pass through and at a very delayed rate plus I also had multiple ulcerations there also. Apparently there was some acid producing ability left in that tiny piece of stomach tissue and that caused the issue. Although,i have been on sucralfate therapy since last October 12th, I am not quite healed, although I have hopes my endoscopy shows good results my story has not yet concluded. Many foods are repulsed, so I still have episodes of vomiting, and I am basically on a liquid/pureed diet. I have had to have other interventions, additional surgeries. have not totally ruled out. But I take my vitamins, minerals and other medications, should be due for additional blood labs , then we will see if there are deficiency of anything. Had one iron INFUSION in March 2019, was rehospitalized in November 2018 for low protein levels which led me to malnutrition. At that time, a PICC,line was inserted in my upper left arm and I received Total Parentel Nutrition 12 hours daily for 3 months. This was not the recovery I booked in for, but I still am having success in my life, and at 73 years old ( my birthday is on Boxing Day so I shall be 74 then) I am still very grateful I had the SURGERY and have been given the chance to continue living. In British terms if I have calculated correctly I have lost nearly 9 stone, over 120- some pounds, nearly 55 kg, however you state it, I am physically much smaller and that gives hope for future days. God Bless you on your struggles, if you want to chat more I am usually no farther away than this website or you can P.M. me! Have a beautiful day and I pray your problems can get fixed properly. -
Revision of RNY
LostFound21 replied to Notthe1sttime's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thanks for this info. I never thought of a home health agency but its worth the cost to get this moving along. I even told the doctors office about my dilemma and they had no suggested that but maybe I'm the first patient who had this issue. I have some friends I could ask but they are not reliable and I fear I would be stuck the day of the procedure without someone able to be there. In my case since its quite a distance from home I would probably stay local in a hotel near the hospital if I go with the first surgeon I met with. I figured I would stay a few days in the event there are any issues afterwards, i would be close by. I am attending a WLS seminar at a local hospital to where i live next week, mostly to get more info on the support after and such. Then if i feel they fit my needs in that regard I will make an appointment with a surgeon there and see my options. I want to be successful this 2nd time around and I want to make sure I get all the info I need especially in areas where I failed 20 years ago. Here in New Jersey in the northern part of the state there are not as many surgeons doing revisions and if they mention it on their sites they explains how risky it is and they dont take many candidates which worries me if they don't have as much experience with revisions. Southern part of NJ I find sooo many options and I have people who respond to my posts with their experience. -
HELP! Still can’t eat and constantly nauseous
Kim36UK posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m 8 weeks post op bypass and I’m still not able to eat ANYTHING! I constantly feel so bloated and nauseous that everything makes me gag and I can’t swallow it. I can only manage sips of water and Ice poles. Went to hospital at 3 weeks and was basically told to try harder. I feel like I’ll die quicker from malnutrition than I would have obesity so what was the point? May aswell have stayed fat! Anyone else out there that was at this point at 8 weeks and did it get any better? -
Revision of RNY
2ndTimeFreedom replied to Notthe1sttime's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am so happy you have made a decision for you! I know in my case I feel like I am going at this alone as there are not too many people who have had a revision to their RNY before. I am ok with this as I know it is what I need. More than anything I am happy and will be happier when I am finished with the surgery (2 weeks away). -
Revision of RNY
LostFound21 replied to Notthe1sttime's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I haven't made a decision yet. I have only been able to find 1 person who had their original surgery with the surgeon I met with. She ended up going for revision in Mexico I believe. She didn't have bad things to say about the surgeon but she said his attitude is he did the surgery the rest is up to you so she suggested I find support groups and a nutritionist to see after since he does not provide that type of support. Those are two things I know I have to do to be successful regardless of the surgeon. I had asked his office if there were any revision patients who would speak with me about their experience but they have no gotten back to me in about a month now. I am going to meet with some surgeons in my area where I live and see what they recommend in regards to revision. The original surgeon I met with is 75 miles from where I live and I have found difficulty finding someone to come with me just for the endoscopy to even determine if the procedure is right for me. Its tough not having support through this process. I am hoping if I can find a surgeon closer to home it will be easier to find a friend who can drive me home after the endoscopy and ultimately the surgery. -
Im a revision and already at permanent goal so i feel resistant to want to take the advice. But I've been watching YouTube to amp myself up 😂

Revision of RNY
Notthe1sttime replied to Notthe1sttime's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Update- I just had an endoscopy performed. We found out the pouch is quite large and there is a fistula connecting the pouch to the remnant stomach. This info is being presented to the insurance, and hopefully the revision is approved. Prior to the procedure I decided to pursue the revision despite the predicted results. I felt like I owed myself the opportunity to try again. In the interim, I've been meeting with a nutritionist to improve my eating habits. Im happy. -
I was wondering if it is ok to take codeine guaifenesin after gastric bypass. I’m almost 2 months post op. This is the first time I’ve been sick since surgery and I can’t stop coughing. I’ve tried OTC meds and nothing is working.

Sleeve vs. Bypass with my health situation - upcoming final appt with dr.
KarenLR75 replied to KarenLR75's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you so much Briswife!! I can definitely understand about desire for the dumping to help ensure compliance, esp with sweet tooth. I watched one woman's youtube videos..she's from TN? And dumping was actually a huge 'PRO' for her with bypass surgery. Hope your journey is going well in all other aspects too!! I definitely understand about changing tastes and your mental status..it is actually quite a relief in many ways, isn't it? -
Conversion to Gastric Bypass Outpatient?

Why do so many sleevers get GERD?
KCgirl061 replied to Panda333's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This was a concern of mine too. Especially on the Facebook bypass support groups I was on. They were saying that 25% of sleevers end up getting converted. Yikes! But you can’t believe everything you read on the internet and so I went looking for more reliable sources of information - namely medical studies. Sorry I didn’t save the links so you can read them for yourself but I have screenshots of the information I wanted: As you can see, the numbers are actually quite small! So don't feel you have to worry about getting a revision - statistics are in your favor! -
Lap Band revision to RNY?
elcee replied to SkinnyKathy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
This is not true for everyone. The only ones which are generally non negotiable are multivitamins for life. I take 2 per day plus Vit D and Magnesium which I used to take prior to the surgery anyway. Anti reflux meds are usually recommended for the first couple of months post op for sleeve and bypass patients. Hairloss doesnt happen to everyone but it can happen to anyone who has had weightloss surgery regardless of the type. -
Sleeve vs. Bypass with my health situation - upcoming final appt with dr.
Briswife15 replied to KarenLR75's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 57 and had bypass 3 months ago. I never feel "hungry" like I did before surgery. One of the many reasons I chose bypass is because of the chance of dumping! I had an incredible sweet tooth before surgery and wanted something to deter me. My tastes have changed, and my mental status is such that for now I really only want protein and food that's good for me. I'm happy I had bypass. Good luck with whichever you choose. Why do so many sleevers get GERD?

I didn’t have GERD/ acid reflux until after the sleeve. I ended up with 4 ulcers in my esophagus. I just had revision surgery to the gastric bypass on Monday. -

Sheribear68 replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey I’m sooooooo glad to read that you didn’t have a structure. Lol, it was nice to see Marine post. One of the biggest reasons I decided for sleeve vs bypass was that I didn’t think I’d be able to handle dumping. You guys that have survived that are rock stars. Seriously.
