Confused about eating and being full
John_Yeti replied to melliecat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know another problem i have had are coldish foods. If your sandwich, bread / mayo / meat, is made of cold foods, this may cause slow/stuck feelings. Also, bread is one of the top foods that give us problems, unless it is toasted. Usually breads or pasta types foods will swell up in our pouch or along the way, that's why doctors usually tell us to toast our bread first. Hope this helps, btw it gets better. Usually what happens between fills is this: 1st week, whatever your doctor puts you on, mine puts me on 1 week liquid again 2nd,3rd,4th --> normal eating, feeling good restriction 5th week --> starting to notice i can eat more. 6th week --> time for another fill, because i can eat a bit more than the beginning of the fill. This is why it takes a few fills to hit that 'sweet spot", i've been told it's because there is fat between our band and our stomach, so when we lose more weight / fat between the band/stomach, it gets loose again, so that's why we get fills until we've burned enough of that fat to be comfortable with where our band is. Mine took 4 fills to reach. Good Luck! :scared2: -
Cheers Karen! It's so good to hear you are home and resting comfortably. Get some well-deserved rest, and I hope your recovery continues to be smooth! Thanks so much (to Karen & everyone) for sharing your experiences, it's really gonna help my nerves when my surgery day gets here (two weeks from today!). I'm still amazed how fast everyone got in and out of the hospital! Awesome! I seem to be the only overnighter so far. Warm (but gentle!) hugs!

:Dancing_biggrin:Every thing went great. Recovery has been better than text book so far. Had my band placed on 02/01/08 in PV Mexico by Dr Joya. The hospital care was I would say different not bad for I am a nurse so of course I had my observation eye on everything they did well while I was awake any ways. My stay was short and sweet 1 day in the hospital and 1 day at the hotel the krystal wich was great can't wait to go back there. My husband and I flew in on Friday and flew out on Sunday. I have the next 6 weeks off too focous on my self and to start a new life time of eating habits. If I had to go back to work physically I would have been ready today. Only a small amount of discomfort the 1st post op day I took 1/2 vicodin every 6 hours and there version of toradol. The last few days it has been every 8-12 hours. I have walked for an hour each day. Well I will quit rambbling. Good luck to the rest of you and I hope your recovery is as good as mine.

~ChinaDoll~ replied to drewsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello Drewsmom, Yes it is hard when u r first banded and yes it is frustrating . I had the same problem when i was first banded I thought that the wght would just melt away. I am just now starting to lose 1 to 2 lbs a week and I have been banded for 6 mnths now . This band is something that takes hard work, you have to make it work for you. Just stay encourage and dont 4 get about the gold at the end of the rainbow. You can do it  :frown:        :thumbup::thumbup: -
About a week ago I had some fantastic vanilla / Raspberry Ripple S/F and F/F ice cream from an ice cream parlor close to my house called Bruster's. ALL EVENING LONG it sounded like a 1,000 coyotes howling my bowels! The stuff that makes it sweet, also makes your stomach "sing"! A few Gas X strips helped ..... but I think having that S/F and F/F ice cream treat will be few and far between! :-)

I lost 11lbs in 6 days after surgery OMG

Congratulations on your weight loss thus far. Just remember your energy and enthusiasm in the coming weeks if and when you hit a stall and don't beat yourself about it! Your body will lose weight at its own pace. -
If you feel weak, add Protein shakes between meals if your doctor allows that. You are going to feel to weak the first month but I don't think you'll faint. To me, that seems like a lot of food for 3 weeks out.

Looking for some help getting back on track!
timeforchangetonya posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been banded for a few years now! I got banded while applying for a nursing program that I am now only 5 month from finishing. School has taking its toll on me. Stress and studying for hours at a time with little time to exercise (excuse i know!). I am struggling, to top it off I experienced the tragic death of my dad, after clinical in November I received a call he was taken to the hospital for trouble breathing, this was not an uncommon thing so I packed my bag expecting to wait with him for some breathing treatments and send him home. An error occurred in his medication administration, and as I got there he was going into respiratory arrest and died three day later from lack of oxygen to his brain. when I got on the scale this morning I was devastated to see what this has done to me~ I need a support person~ -
My biggest incision, about an inch or two, to the left side of my belly button, is a big indent but bulging above the incision. It's always been that way since surgery and I've asked Dr about it twice and he said is the stitch and it will dissolve in a few weeks and it'll pop back out. Is everyone's like this?

Endoscope and dilation- Has anyone had to have this procedure post op?
daadelishopeful posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, I am almost 6 weeks post op and still struggling to keep mushy food and sometimes liquids down. I can barely keep down 1/4 cup of my mushy foods and some days I can't keep down fluids. I spoke to my doctor and he wants to do a endoscope and "stretch" my stomach a bit because he thinks that is the problem with the vomiting. I am okay with the scope, but concerned about having my stomach "stretched". Has anyone had these procedures done? And what if any results did you have afterwards? I am a bit concerned and would appreciate any feedback. Thank you. D. -
I ended up having to take the jeans back from OldNavy. They were too long even with heels. I exchanged them for the 'short' size, I have short legs. I also picked up a couple of shirts. We stopped by the "Avenue" because they were having a big clearance. I almost fit inot their 14/16, but the boobage makes those shirts really short, and I still have a belly that I like to hide. I had to go with the 18/20 and the 2 shirts are a bit big, but super comfy. For 6 bucks each, I really couldn't pass them up. We stopped by Gamestop for the new Rockband Country track. I also picked up the Wii Active on a recommendation from a friend. I'm starting tonight, and I know I am going to feel so much better. Dr. M released me to full activity this last Monday, and I am feeling better this week than I have since this journey began back in June. I bought some adult gummie vitamins and they taste amazing. I still have my rough patches, but for the most part, life is so much better. We have less than 30 days on this deployment. Communication is slim, and it's frustrating. He's almost home, and I started all my little projects around the house. I bought new bedding for our bed, and he is going to love it. Every time he goes away, I buy new bedding. It's a weird thing I do, and he always loves what I pick out. I also cleaned out my closet. I bagged up over 100 articles of clothing, and I figured if I could sell each piece for 1-3 bucks each, that would be 100-300 for new clothes. It felt so good to get purged all of those clothes. I'll miss them, but I'll enjoy getting new ones more. I guess that's all for now. I hope everyone is doing well.

Ok, this probably has been asked a million times but.....I had my first fill on Thursday and I have been eating like a pig all weekend. Do I call first thing in the a.m. and tell my doc that I need more? Or ride it out a while and see if my restriction magically appears? I see so many people posting about how it took a week or two for their fill to work. I don't know what to do. I could use a little input. Thanks.

Hey everyone, I am one week post op and still in the full liquid phase. My weight is kinda creeping off and I think its bc what I'm eating isn't all that high in Protein (tomato Soup, Jello, pudding, etc.). I do drink a protein meal drink for Breakfast but that's all my surgeon wants me to drink as far as Protein shakes go...I'm looking for ANY suggestions on full liquid options with more protein... Am I The Slowest Loser Ever?
Newfoundlove replied to NoExcuses's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that's a pretty good major stall. It is so hard when that happens so I feel for you. Have you talked to your doctor or your NUT about this? My NUT's advice was to stay within 800 to 1000 calories. I can barely get to 800 on most days, but I'm only seven weeks out. I watch my carbs too and try to stay around 30 or lower - but that's because I know that my body reacts negatively to carbs, even good carbs. I'm 5'3 so almost the same height as you. Of the calories you consume, how many carbs? What about sodium, could it be a little too high and you're retaining water? Have you tried LilMissDiva's boot camp? I've heard from others on here that they have had success with that. I saw a post from someone else that she's only been able to get success by varying her calorie count every other day or so. It sounds like you are doing all of the right things. You will lose weight. Stay strong and positive and keep working your sleeve. -
I am 3 weeks out and tonight I had about 4oz of white wine. I didn't even think about it (dumb I know) it was just served with Xmas supper. I feel fine, not even a buzz and no pain. Could I have done damage to my sleeve?

I need help-- I am more scared now than I was before getting sleeved. I had my stitches removed this week at an urgent care setting in TN, since it is my new home and I do not have a primary care doctor at the moment. Three of the five incision sites look pretty bad- all full of puss, red and refusing to close. The incision site where my drain was has closed but is pink/red all the way around and one end is sore when I push. Then the incision near my bra line isn't severe but isn't in the clear either. How did this happen? I made sure to clean them, put coverings on, took all my antibiotics, etc. While I would hate for someone else to have infectons like me, I really need your support. What did you do? What happened?? I was given an antiobiotic cream and was told that if I don't see a difference in 48 hours (Sunday night) then we need to go forth with plan two. I'm not sure of the next option but the doctor did say if nothing works, it could be internal infection meaning I need to make a trip to the OR to get recut and cleaned. I'm really hoping this isn't the case. Please say prayers for me. I'm so scared :'(

I didn't really get an "approved" vite list but I'm only four weeks post-op and doing gummy multivites, gummy calcium with D3, gummy B12, and a prilosec (Omeprezole) capsule daily. I've lost 29 lbs so far and haven't had a problem with the vites.

The brain is a powerful thing.
AuntieLala83 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anyone having trouble with their brains making us feel like we are doing something wrong. I'm doing wonderfully. I'm 5 weeks out, down 42 lbs .. Walking 3 miles a day 5 days a week. I'm fortunate to be able to eat everything in 1/4 to 1/2 cup portions only. Currently eating about 700-800 calories per day. The problem is my brain tells me if I put something in my mouth that actually tastes good, it must be bad. For lunch I had a sourdough chicken Sammy from Jack n the box but I removed everything except the grilled chicken breast and cheese. It ended up being 200 cals and 31gms of protein. Healthy right??? My brain says NO! What can I do to get my brain in order? -
This is for the ladies

I just got mine yesterday. Same thing...the week leading up to it was constantly hungry, bloated and feeling crappy. I just drank lemon water between meals to stop the hunger and stuck with it. It's definitely hard because so much is happening in your body. I feel your pain. The joys of being a woman -
My Question #1 - Clothes...what To Do!
favoredone replied to june13sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried thrift stores, good will or smaller friends???? I'm only a week out, but I'm not fitting more than 3 or 4 pieces in my closet... I'm going to hit up a few thrift stores on their 1/2 days!!! Hope that helps! And congrats!!! -
I'm 4 1/2 weeks out. I have been eating Taco Bell re-fried beans. it's .99 cents and I get 2 meals from it. It has a little cheese and mild sauce. Very smooth and goes down well. Also helps with constipation. I also made a double batch of turkey chili with chili and kidney beans that is yummy and you get the protein from the beans and turkey. it is amazing how such small portions go so far. i have to eat food with taste or I'll get too bored. So far so good. Good Luck

Puberty and obesity - possible link?
Kat817 replied to Fanny Adams's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I developed --doing like others have said, and going to bed flat one day and waking up fluffy another. I never remember a training bra, I was probably a C cup for a year and a half before ever having a period. But I was also EXTREMELY thin-----that might very well explain it. I developed in about 5th-6th grade so 11 or 12, but was between 7th & 8th grade before starting my period. Then it was not long before I too was on the pill for regulation. I would start and then my period would just go on for weeks......not terribly hard, just non ending! I had fertility issues, due to irregular periods even as an adult. I ended up with uterine cancer. Had a hysterectomy as part of my treatment of course-----was good to get rid of it all, it was ALWAYS one problem or another!!!! Kat -
Would love a Revision
moonchild1968 replied to tab's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi. You are not alone. I was banded in 2007. I lost 60 wonderful pounds. I was still obese, but it made a big difference for me and I was happy with the weight loss and new found freedom. I think I had the same fill experience as you....fill-unfill-fill-can't swallow my own spit-unfill-eat every and any thing-fill-can't eat anything except slider foods-weight gain. It has been a constant struggle. Once I learned how to eat around my band, it was all downhill. My surgeon advised me to revise to sleeve last year (so you might want to start there if you still trust your surgeon and have his/her support), but I resisted. I didn't want another surgery and I didn't want to acknowledge that the band and I didn't work well together. We (the band and I) failed. It's been hard for me to accept. Finally, September 2012 I started really considering a revision. I went to another "initial" seminar (with the same surgeon) and heard everything all over again. After 5 years, I need a refresher. Long story short (is it too late for a short story? lol), I am approved. I had to get medical clearance again which was no problem at all. My doctor wrote it up better than I could have myself. I did not do psych again, but I did the NUT visit. I was approved so quickly (2-3 days) that it was further reassurance that I needed to move forward with the revision. Approval is easier for those who have been compliant with getting fills, says my surgeon. I got approved, but I put everything on hold, because I was not mentally ready to do it, but I am now. I'm calling my surgeon's office next week to ask them to schedule me. I hope to be in the April Sleever Achievers club. Bottom line, start at the beginning. Pick up the phone and call your surgeon and tell them what your thinking then go from there. Also, call your insurance co. Please update. I will too. Good luck. -
hi Keep it up Kellie. I think you are doing well. From 118 to 105 is great. I also lost a few after my fill (only had one and 1,5ml.dont know if he put any in when he banded me..) and then it stalls for a while. Youll get there.Hope this fill does it for you..
