Haven't seen then since my 6 month check up (9 month is in early August). At that time, they still want me to do revision. I am still fairly against it. I tend to get random complications from surgery, and I don't feel comfortable putting myself through another major surgery. Plus, I have figured out how to live with my current state of being. I'm not sure I'm up to figuring out new complications if I got the bypass.

When I had my sleeve in 2013 my dad was reluctantly supportive. He wouldn’t tell me not to but he was pretty concerned. Once he saw how well I did after he was very supportive. He then supported my mom through her RnY and me when I had my revision. I think fear often drives our support people.

Revision to RNY
attorneyshannon replied to Sam.is.sassy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a revision from sleeve to bypass in March. I do not have any more heartburn—that’s completely resolved. I have had a much harder time eating this time around and still do not have solid stool. As a result, I lost 50 lbs since my revision which is more than I ever planned to be honest. I was successful with the sleeve—losing 110 and only gaining back 10 lbs over 5 years. But the heartburn was too much. The recovery has just been harder. But as a trade off I’m seeing numbers on the scale I never thought I’d see. -
omg. i totally misread your surgery date. I just saw 06/29 and assumed it was this year...sorry about that! I find that everyone's "rules" differ from surgeon to surgeon, but are more or less in the same vein. Here is a resource you can peruse: https://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-big-gastric-bypass-diet-guide/

@notmyname, glad to hear thing are getting better (if even just a little bit )...is your team still recommending a revision for you?

Since I’ve had gastric bypass I hate meat, I hate the look of it the smell of it. I try to eat it for the protein because I’m not able to stomach protein shakes anyone. Has anyone else gone through this?

Loose skin - how long to tighten?
catwoman7 replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'd read to expect $8k-$10K per procedure, with the lower body lift (LBL) counting as two procedures since they're doing front and back. But for the rest - arm lift, breast lift, etc - count on about $8K-10K each. I found this to be pretty much on the money during my consults (I went on three consult visits) - the quotes I got were pretty much what I expected. I had an LBL, arm lift, and a breast lift - it was done in two visits a few months apart - and my total bill was right around $40K. I'm retired - so I didn't have to worry about work. However, plastic surgery was much more painful and a tougher recovery than gastric bypass was. After the first week or so, though, it was more discomfort than pain (and that discomfort lasted for a long time), and I was driving after about 10 days. I guess I could have gone back to work after two or three weeks (if I worked, that is...) I also got a quote from Dr. Francisco Sauceda in Mexico. He was quite a bit cheaper - it's been awhile, but I think it was around $26K for everything. But I decided I'd rather go to someone within driving distance from here in case I had any complications. It'd be a lot easier than having to fly somewhere (esp out of the country) if I couldn't find a doctor here to deal with complications. -
Told not to lose weight before surgery
Lynda486 replied to Lynda486's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Thanks KCgirl061! I will definitely cut out sugary! In the recent past I did the Whole 30 diet, so I think cutting some things won't be too hard. I am already a pro at chewing my food as this surgery will be a revision from a VBG to bypass. Thanks, Lynda PS I live in Southern MO -

Bypass surgery 45 years ago
Dorothy Sue Jastifer posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Its hard to believe that this kind of surgery has been around this long already. Yes I had this done 45 years ago in Traverse City at Munson Hospital. Back then it was an open surgery they staple the stomach and create a small pouch then it is bypassed to the jejunum. While they were doing this surgery back then all the organs were removed and cleaned out. You stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks or so, much different then how it is done now adays. I have maintained the weight loss over the years, however, there was a few years when I had put on up to 40 pounds and just started slowly getting it back off once I realized what I was doing. -
Low sugar-No sugar beverages with NO after taste
James Marusek replied to Butterfly#7's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am 6 years post-op RNY gastric bypass. Like you said everyone has different taste. The following are the variety of drinks that I have found enjoyable. Water with ice cubes. No sugar Crystal Light [not a great fan but I served me well at the very beginning when I had to drink something with some flavor and no sugar.] Fine English teas such as "Royal Wedding Tea" by Harney and Sons. A drink called "Bai" that comes in bottles. [I generally buy these by the case when they are on sale.] Hot cocoa during the winter [I use Nestle Nesquick (No Sugar Added) with milk] Hot Lipton tea with a half a squeezed lemon to which I added a no calorie/low calorie sweetener. And since I am several years post-op and in the Maintenance mode, I have integrated drinking a cup of coffee each morning into my routine. I sweeten it with a no calorie/low calorie sweetener and add a couple tablespoons of whipped cream to the top. The whipped cream I make from scratch using heavy whipping cream and for a whip cream sweetener I use Spenda. I have found that it is a good way to start my mornings because it contains fats which minimize hunger. -
Good morning, Fluffy! You were right, I did just fine [emoji4] I am officially 1 day post-op from gastric bypass. It's still hard for me to believe that I went through with it! I'm excited to begin my road to recovery and renewal! Thank you for your encouragement. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Good morning, Libby63: I'm happy to report that you were right! My bypass was a success. I woke up yesterday and was in minimal pain that was managed well by the nurses. I haven't had anything to eat in about 34 hours and I don't feel any hunger. This morning I will start my clear liquid Diet Phase 1. Wish me luck! Thanks again for your supportive words. Hi everyone...how are you all doing? I am in Brazil since 04/30 because my mother had a heart attack followed by kidney failure, pneumonia and pulmonary edema ☹️ she was only able to have heart surgery (triple bypass) on 06/25 and is still in the hospital...I’ve been with her in the hospital since I arrived and will stay here until August to help her through recovery...needless to say, I haven’t really paid attention to what I eat and stopped exercising. Still, I managed to lose 16 lbs and am now 83 lbs down with another 35 to go! I started exercising this week and eating better so I can be at my goal weight by the obe year mark! It’s a daunting task but I’ll try my best to get there by 10/30 🤞 Best if luck to you all!

Meeting surgeon for the first time getting anxious
New&Improved posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've been going through the motions and I'm 3 months away from my 12 months cut off so getting excited yet anxious. Will be seeing surgeon finally In 3 weeks to discuss in depth the whole procedure and I guess finalize a surgery date either 30 sep or 14th October. They only do surgery one day a week here at Ashford Adelaide Australia. I've been told I may have bloods done but after that I need to see a dietitian to discuss the preop diet and then next time I see surgeon will be on the surgery day and I'll have 2 nights maybe 3 in the private hospital which will be NICE.. If all goes well I'm so excited been researching the procedure for like a year now and choose RNY BYPASS over the others mostly because of my diabetes and high sugar levels but because I need to lose 125+lbs to be healthy bmi but also be fit and healthy for the first time in many years. I'm single and no kids so I can concentrate on myself 100% and hope that I'll be ready to take control of my life with the help of the bypass tool. I'm be 35 next month and I want to be a brand new man Well before I'm 40!!! Then look towards the future to meet someone start a family and pass on all my new found knowledge to my children so they can live healthy lives... Just felt like giving a little update/vent/rant... Thanks guys Mike -

Had my gastric bypass on July 1st and came home today. Non eventful... thank goodness. Trying to swallow 1/4 cup of pureed turkey. Tastes great but getting full at the 2 tablespoon, 1 ounce point. Otherwise a bit tender around my 6 laproscopy sites, no dranining, water and protein shake going down well. Have others had their surgery yet?

Hola! I made it to the Loser's Bench!!! My bypass went smoothly. Recovery (so far) has been manageable, and I'm grateful for that. I have talked/ laughed with family and friends, walked my hospital wing twice, and am now sitting in a chair in a sunny spot of my room getting ready to read a book. I am taking it hour by hour, and the past few hours have been good to me. I hope all the other July Losers are having a good day too [emoji4] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!
logo replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi all, I survived my 2 weeks of optifast, managing to get in at least 3 and sometimes 4 shakes each day. Those two weeks included a business trip out of town (flights, hotel, conference, etc), 2 birthday parties (one of them was mine!) and Father’s Day. I was really proud of myself for sticking to the plan. Then came the two water and sf jello days. Then June 21 was surgery day. Was at the hospital at 6 am and gastric bypass was on schedule at 8 am. I vaguely recall waking up in the PACU, asking for more pain meds, and that was it. Then I was in my semi-private room in the hospital for two nights. I got myself a Fitbit for my bday and made it my goal to get 250 steps every hour in the hospital, so I was that patient wheeling my IV pole around the hospital halls, starting at 1 pm on the day of my surgery and going every hour until 11 pm and starting again in the mornings. That first day was the most uncomfortable in terms of gas pains and very dry mouth. I wasn’t allowed to drink anything that first day. I could just swish water around and spit it out. Saturday I was allowed water, sf jello, sickly sweet juices, and tea and had to record every tablespoon I drank every hour. Sunday, I started passing gas (apparently a big milestone!!), was taken off IV, and was discharged. The pain was very manageable and I was told this is because I was so determined to walk a little bit so frequently. I’ve been home now for a week and a half. I’ve been on ‘full liquids’ (protein shakes, milk, sf yogurt, sf pudding, cream soups, broth soups, and runny oatmeal), and been doing great. I’ve been getting all my protein and my water in without any issues. I’ve also been getting out for walks and getting 8000+ steps in each day. I’m planning on going back to work tomorrow. My plan has me starting soft solids on Saturday so we’ll see how that goes! I have to say that my recovery has gone very smoothly so far. I’m sending all my June surgery siblings positive vibes and wishing you all the smoothest recovery possible. -
Hi all, newbie here. I'm due for bypass surgery in september. I was wondering how you dealt with the lead up? Did you have support from friends and family? If not how did you manage that? I've found all friends and family supported the idea but now it's become reality it's been very different. I'm very much on my own and frankly, bricking it [emoji51] Sent from my SM-G965F using BariatricPal mobile app
