    DS Surgery date 7/23/2019!

Lapband surgery has the lowest success of all the WLS so dont beat yourself up too much. In fact many have to have revision surgery because of it. In Sweden, they are doing revisions all the time due to the complications from lapband. (Sweden has tons of research on WLS surgery which is used around the wolrd. Since it's covered by universal healthcare the (anonymous) information is used for studies all the time. Patients also have the chance to participate in studies.) So, I think DS will help you greatly. So chip up and go for it!
  2. I'm coming up on three years in January postop gastric bypass. I've been very happy with my success, from 365 to 225. I have to have my gallbladder removed in the beginning of August and I'm a little nervous. The reason I'm nervous is not because Of the surgery but the fact that it's going to interfere with my routine that's been so successful. I go to the gym a minimum of five days a week with a combination of cardio and weightlifting. The surgeon who is going to remove my gallbladder already informed me that he wants me to avoid strenuous exercise for about six weeks, this is going to drive me insane! Any suggestions on how I can avoid any regression during my exercise layoff. Thank you for any help
  3. Yes, Dorothy Sue, I did. Actually, I lost only 53 or so pounds over a year out. My goal was about 150. Then in the last 4 years, I gained 26 or so pounds and plateaued at 300 for a few years. I had ditched the whole WLS rules and went rogue. Too many reasons to give a hoot. I failed. But something in my Soul recently urged me, excitedly, to start all over again. I use BP as a big motivator, teacher, best friend. It eventually worked because I am now full on into my bypass diet, with the support of my husband, who must follow a diabetic lifestyle. I'm excited, hoping it's not a "honeymoon phase", and doing very, very well. Though I must say that getting in "enough" food has been a challenge. But with all the support I have, I know I can do it! Are you having issues with weight gain/regain? Polly

    Am I eating enough calories

Hi, and Congratulations on your recent surgery! I had gastric bypass 3 months ago, and I think you are eating more than enough calories. I rarely get up to 800 myself. For protien it seems adequate, but you should follow your surgeon's recommendations. When I workout my doctor has suggested a higher protein amount, but you're probably not working out yet. Focus on hydration and protein and don't worry as much about calories. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. I am new to forums and not very comfortable, so forgive me if I rattle on. It has been 3 weeks since I had my gastric bypass surgery. I have felt great for most of the time but I'm not sure I'm eating enough. I have introduced soft foods into my diet and even had a couple of bites of a meat. I track what I eat using My Fitness Pal and I have my goal set to 800 calories a day. I have my protein set at 35% (70g), Carbs 30% (60g) and Fat at 45% (31g). Can anyone tell me what my grams or percentages should be in a day? I have been having some discomfort the past few days and I'm not sure if it is due to my diet and introduction to foods or tenderness from getting dry heaves. HELP!
  7. My friend had bypass surgery about 10 years ago...she lost over 100 pounds, fell in love and got married at age 39. Got pregnant and delivered her first baby at age 41 with no complications. Decided to go for baby #2 and had a difficult pregnancy and her son born in December has Down Syndrome. He is adorable and she adores him but he will face a lifetime of challenges.

  11. I don't have any specific studies (though I'm sure there are some out there, FWIW) but from experience over the years on various forums, and looking at the basic results of the virgin bypass and sleeve procedures, I wouldn't look to such a revision as being a big help. The sleeve and bypass are quite close in overall results, that it doesn't seem to make much sense to switch from one to the other in order to get significant additional loss. You can expect some just from going through the whole pre-op/post-op diets and that initial restriction that you get, but longer term, the metabolic effect of the two are similar. The DS would make more sense as you are already half way there, and any competent DS surgeon can do a "completion" (and if it seems appropriate, do a re-sleeve as well.) The other consideration is that the bypass is something of a dead end procedure, in that it is very difficult to revise it to something else (like the DS) if it doesn't work out - there are maybe half a dozen surgeons around who can revise it to a DS owing to the complexity of that revision. That said, I have seen a number of people go through that revision when their bypass didn't provide satisfactory results that did do well (including a couple double revisions who went from a band to a bypass and ultimately to the DS to get the desired result.) That would be my choice if I had no other conditions dictating a bypass.

I had gastric bypass in Canada almost 2 weeks ago. RNY was suggested as opposed to sleeve in part because I already had reflux. I was referred a year and only told 4 people: my husband, and 3 people that are part of my life that I thought would be most supportive. Two were, and one wasn’t at all. I just stopped about the surgery to the one that wasn’t supportive and still haven’t told her that I’ve had it, even though I see her every day (she’s my next door neighbour). I waited until about a week before I started my pre-surgery optifast diet to tell anyone else, and even then I only told people that I felt would need to make changes to support me (my parents, my brother, my boss, a colleague I was travelling with during the optifast phase). I really wanted the decision to be mine and based on all the research I had taken the time to do. I really didn’t want ANYONE influencing my decision as to whether to go ahead with the surgery or not, so I was careful about who I told, how I told them, and what I told them about the support I wanted/needed from each. I also had cold feet the days leading up to the surgery but I was also so committed to the optifast diet and I also knew I made the best decision for me and my health and future. I trusted myself and knew that I could count on knowing I had made a wise, informed, thoughtful decision, and that I didn’t need to give in to some natural and to-be-expected pre-surgery anxiety.

  15. Sorry... last reply to my own post. Anyone have a link to a revision study that covers the results from sleeve to bypass? Medical journal stuff?

Thank you. I've been reading through alot of the forums on here and found it really helpful. I know hospitals work differently here between counties too but they strongly advise against the sleeve if there is a past history of reflux where I'm at. Its interesting how drs and hospitals differ. Sending well wishes your way, a speedy recovery and good luck with the revision [emoji4] If you are happy to, let me know how you get on with it all. You have a good weekend too. Astrid Sent from my SM-G965F using BariatricPal mobile app

GASTRIC BYPASS REVISE FROM GASTRIC SLEEVE

My severe reflux disease went from me taking 2 pills a day, to now almost 3yrs later taking a total of 10 pills a day, zofran for nausea and a GI cocktail 3 times a day after the sleeve surgery. So am going to be having revision surgery from the sleeve to RNY to hopefully get rid of the reflux. I had hernia repair when I had sleeve surgery and apparently it's reopened as well. Hi Astrid, I'm not sure what the difference between UK and US is either lol. Anyway good luck with your journey as well and I think that while being independent is great like Mikey but it's nice to have some go to ppl that you know can relate to what you are going through. My revision surgery from sleeve to RNY is due to the reflux getting worse than it was before I had sleeve surgery. Although it's more surgery and a harder surgery according to my gastrointestinal doctor and my surgeon, it's apparently the only hope I have to fix the severe GERD (reflux disease). I'm so glad I have only 11 days to go but wound up at the Urgent care yesterday with 101.2 temperature due to a ear infection and am getting a summer cold. So I am now on a ZPak of antibiotics and cold medicine trying to kick it before surgery. I am not about to reschedule if I can do anything fo avoid it. Have a great weekend. 19. Hi, looking for feedback on those who've done revision from sleeve to bypass. I do not have reflux/GERD issues so I'm only focused on additional weight loss. I did the sleeve 3 years ago. Was 429 lbs. Brought me to 320 lbs. My weight dictated a Bypass OR Duodenal Switch BUT I was doing it in Mexico and wanted to keep things simple. NOW my insurance covers and so I'm considered the jump from sleeve to bypass but ONLY if there's a chance for weight loss. For those who have done it... results from a weight loss perspective? Worth it?

I agree. My mum has a fear of hospitals and surgery so the fear factor is probably spot on. How has your mum got on with RnY? I thought I was decided on that but I'm now toying with the sleeve. Im getting cold feet regarding the 'replumbing' of the intestine. My surgeon has said if I change my mind it fine aslong as it's not last minute. Silly question, but when you say revision is that another OP for something else? Sent from my SM-G965F using BariatricPal mobile app
  21. I have had both the sleeve and the bypass. I woke up from my sleeve surgery hungry and remained hungry. I did have complications, so I'm not sure how much that played into things. I did not wake up from Bypass surgery hungry and I have more restriction and less hunger over all.

    Oh the places you'll go!

I have a good friend that had bypass May 2018. To celebrate she planned a trip to Disney World (on her bucket list) and invited me and 2 other bari friends to join her and celebrate our 500 pound combined weight loss together. Only 78 days to go!

I’ve seen the mixed opinions as well, and it honestly made me nervous, while waiting for my revision. I was revised VSG to RnY 6/4 and my one month was 29# including pre op diet, 15.2# since day of surgery. My VSG pre op and first month was 29.9# and I weighed 60+ lbs more with my VSG. I’m feeling good about it.

    BCBS revision?

I don’t have any answers unfortunately but I have the same insurance and ever since I got my sleeve, my GERD has gotten way worse. I’m kind of kicking myself for not doing the RNY so I’m considering a revision. I know in the Fed BCBS it says a revision has to be done within 2 years of the initial weight loss surgery though.
