How are you doing with your revision?
sheila havens replied to UsernameTaken's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just had the revision three weeks ago and am doing very well. I have lost 20 pounds and am starting the puree food stage. I have no cravings, very little interest in food. I am getting all my Protein, Water, and trying to walk enough. I had horrible diabetes and it went away the next day in the hospital. I went home with no diabetes meds!! -
I had revision to sleeve on the 30th as well! One night in the hospital and they took my drain out before I left. My surgeon said that is his preference and I was ok with that. As for the removal it didn't hurt necessarily but did surprise me. Felt it come out and it was longer than I realized. After a sharp intake of breath, due to the foreign feeling, I was fine. Hope your removal goes well! From-amyjo316

I'm thinking about a revision...

I'm 4 years post VSG and also looking at a RNY revision. I had significant GERD all my life. With my surgery I lost about 90 lbs, regained 40. have lost the majority of that using Keto but still, the GERD remains. Surgeon says RNY revision will cure the GERD. I want off of meds, which I've been on for 15 years. I understand the decision to consider a revision. There are many vets who have revisions for various reasons. -
Garland Mom... Will you revise to another type of surgery? Everyone Else... Some people are just more sensitive to fills (and the pressure they place on the esophagus) than others, per my (banded) surgeon. Therefore, a tiny fill can be "too tight" in that respect, but still not provide restriction. It's okay to rely on meds to control the reflux, as long as you have had everything checked and your stoma is a reasonable diameter. That's what determines a too-tight band - the size of the stoma. Your stoma should be about the size of a number two pencil.

Work Requires Dr. Approval to Retun to Work
Mim posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I will be having revision surgery in Oct. With Dr. Aceves. I wasn't working when I got the lapband three years ago, so this wasn't an issue. My co-workers know that I am having surgery, but not the details. I've been told that my surgeon will need to clear me to return to work with a letter. I don't want to reveal what type of surgery I had or explain why I had it in Mexico (I work at a US hospital!) Did any of you have this dilemma and how did you deal with it? Thanks. -

I'm not sure where you're located but Dr. Ayoola (pronounced Eye Ola) is located in the Dallas area. I have a friend who had a sleeve to DS revision. She loves this doctor, and trust him completely. She's very happy with her revision. Now Offering Telehealth Visits | Weight Loss Specialists of North Texas: Weight Loss Specialists: Denton, TX & Flower Mound, TX (drayoola.com) -
Hi, I'm also considering the revision. I'm actually in the process of getting the sleeve. I had to get an upper GI, have a psych eval and also nutritionist appt. I spoke with the coordinator of my center and he said my surgery date will be in July just as long as I'm approved. Please pray for me. I failed miserably with the lapband, I'm back at my pre surgery weight, we can be buddies too, how soon are you looking to get sleeved?

Surgery went well. Had a bit of bleeding but the rest of the polyps and nodules are gone and I'm FINALLY cleared for my revision surgery. It was the biggest of all the surgeries because he wanted to get everything in this 1 surgery instead of bringing me back again. My throat hurts and I'm having difficulty eating soup because it hurts my stomach. Once that passes, I'll be able to eat normally. No exercising today or tomorrow, and Sunday is an easy work out day. Spoke to my primary doctor and she went over the labs and CT scan and said she's referring me to a gyno for the uterine fibroid. She said the other labs are only slightly outside the normal range and nothing to worry about at this point but will be watched. She said the large liver is normal for people who were morbidly obese. She said it's enlarged but actually looks like it's getting smaller from what it was before my sleeve. So all of that is ok and will just be watched to make sure all the numbers keep heading in the right direction. -
So thirsty all the time time!

I got home last night from revision surgery and have been sipping away. My goal is 64oz including my Protein that I mix with Water. I have the 8oz deer park individuals so I can easily tell how much I have drank. I am writing it all down so I can see my process. Also I write down if I liked the protein or not. I drink plain water and water with mio. I write down all my feelings too. If I drank to fast or if it feel sick. Which I have not gotten sick yet. It is a learning process for us all. You may want to try the fruity Protein drinks Matrix makes them I had the fuzzy navel today and it wasn't bad. It may help quench your thirst. -
Hi, bacon-- My revision was February 17, and I spent three days in the hospital. Challenges getting in fluids and extreme grogginess extended my hospital stay by one day. Throughout my recovery, I've had, and continue to have, difficulty getting in fluids and foods. Two weeks ago, I had a scope that revealed a stricture, which was inhibiting my ability to keep down Protein shakes and Water let alone anything pureed. It was cleared, but I continue to throw up and experience inconsistencies with even the softest of foods. My recovery is harrowing from my perspective, but I was able to return to work after three weeks, one week sooner than I'd planned. I was banded in 2009 and lost 40 pounds. Since the revision in February, I've lost 30. I'm also off of two of my blood pressure medications and taking half of the antidepressants I used to, results I never achieved with the band. In spite of this, however, I have regrets. The constant vomiting and feeling of fullness in my esophagus is like still having a band. I have a lot of anxiety around eating and have all but stopped doing it. I also have unpredictable stomach pains and explosive bowel movements. In summary, if I had the revision to do over again, I don't know that I would. Good luck with your decision!

Revision surgery

Well, you could always do an RNY to DS (Duodenal Switch) revision. You'd have to see if your insurance would cover the revision though because not all insurances do. -

PPO doesn't go through a medical group, so Blue Shield will look at your request directly. As long as you meed revision criteria, you should be good! -

Share your band to sleeve revision success story!
zileydeg replied to nicksmommy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just have my revision from the lap band to sleeve a week a go. And so far looking good.. To many problems with my band . -
Let me ask you a question- I called Cigna and they confirmed that revision coverage is different than starting from scratch and showed the 4 bullet points. I qualify for all but 1 - the one about the band causing the medical problem. The surgeons office said that because of that- I need to see the nutritionist, psyc etc... So that it will be easier to get approved in 3 months vs no wait with the revision. I'm worried that after all that hardwork- what else do I need to do
-
Sorry Dustin hope you get rescheduled real soon. I had revision from band to sleeve 11/10/14 I am doing great. Try not to be nervous it's not as bad as the band was.

Too skinny anyone?
TwoStepsBack replied to nene6569's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had this same concern. Having done plenty of research, speaking with my surgeon, and reading on these boards, I became comfortable that it wouldn't be an issue. I have a fair way to go to goal yet, only sleeved 12 days ago, but I was aneorexic as a teenager and initially my family were terrified I am going to go too far again. Knowing that this was a HEALTHY option for me and not just a super quick method of weight loss was just as important as anything else. Some people do go below their target, but I am sure that given time to adjust the amount which is eaten and the type of calories consumed, this can be rectified. I have already warned my family that I may go a little underweight until I get used to how much I should be eating to maintain my goal. A little bit of trial and error. I would also try to sway you away from the band, having read plenty of complications and seeing how many revisions there are here. I just don't believe it is a good option for anyone. Best of luck with whatever you decide. xx -
Before I take this revision step...
jobigirl posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I want you sleevers to tell me--do you still have to take very small bites and chew, chew, chew like with the band? And what happens if you don't? And why would you have to eat any differently than normal if there is no restriction at either end of the stomach opening and digestion is normal except for the quanity of food the stomach can hold? The band was a disaster for me. I have vomited for 3 years. I can't deal with another similar experience. -

i HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. Had the band for 2 yrs, and it was basically a nightmare for me also. many issues and problems. I did do the revision on the 18th of this month. I can't give you the expert advice others can because of the newbee stage I am in. I will say that from all the research I did, it seems like the only alternative I was willing to do. so far, I am quite happy..have to stay focused on a post op diet for a month..but it is well worth what I will receive for the effort....Bev -
Anyone else at 30 BMI when they were sleeved? (Revision)
Screwballski posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Is there anyone out there that got sleeved with a relatively low BMI? I’d dropped to exactly 30 the morning of surgery. Had it been lower it would have been called off. Can I expect to loose my weight as quickly as others, given complete compliance (which I have maintained to the letter), or will it take me longer because I have less to lose. Has anyone else been through this? SW 180 CW 171 (14 days post op) GW 140 -
I was banded on May 12th and my port flipped within the 2nd month. I had my port revision done on Aug. 26 in outpatient surgery. I was in and out. He moved port lower. So far, so good. He was able to remove the Fluid and replaced it during surgery. To keep me on track, he did a refill in three weeks. Alls is good now, I have about 5 cc in my band and actually went back last month to get a small unfill. I'm ready for another tomorrow.....I hope he finds it easy. Best wishes to you.
