While RH is classically a bypass thing, owing to rapid stomach emptying from the lack of pyloric valve, it is not unknown with the sleeve, too, as rapid emptying can happen due to the reduced stomach size and with slider foods (such as ice cream) that don't trigger the valve to close, particularly if they are eaten by themselves and not with something else more dense. If I need something overnight, I usually have a piece of cheese or a protein bar to satisfy things. Having a glucose meter handy is nice, as you can test things next time you have one of those bars - check your BS after maybe a half hour, hour and two hours to see how your body reacts to it. That will tell you for sure whether that is the problem. Orthostatic hypotension is also possible, though I would expect that you would have seen evidence of it (light headedness when standing from a bed or chair) before this, as it will start to happen when we start losing weight rapidly and the cardio system is trying to adjust

Nervous! Sleeve to RNY revision tomorrow 😳
GreenTealael replied to GingerSlim's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi I was just revised a week ago and i have the same amount of lapro port sites, and hospital stay was the same length. But obviously the specifics of the two surgeries are very different, even more so because your anatomy is already altered. Recovery, for me, has been much smoother so far because i had realistic expectations about pain management and took care of that immediately. I would say it seems be similar to the intial surgery for recovery, But GERD appears to be gone so far. However IDK about weightloss aspect unfortunately Good Luck 💜 -
Waiting, waiting, waiting

We have met our deductibles for the year as well. I wasn't planning on getting surgery but when they told me I could fix my issues with a revision I am all for it. The waiting is impossible! Good luck to you!! -

Nervous! Sleeve to RNY revision tomorrow 😳
GingerSlim posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
It was 5 years ago today 7/22 that I was sleeved. Like many others- GERD, hiatal hernia & a 30lb regain has me going back for a second chance. I gotta admit, rearranging my guys has me a little nervous. Not sure what to expect as far as recovery the first couple day or how long they will end up keeping me in the hospital. For those who have gone through the same thing- Is it similar to sleeve? Any advice & words of wisdom are greatly appreciated! -
Dr Khalid O. Shebani easy surgeon for plastic bypass. During the initial consultation, he discussed the options and my desired results and commitment to the new lifestyle. We ca to the agreement that a full gastric bypass would be best for the results I was looking for. Once the surgery was scheduled, Dr. Shebani’s staff were kind, efficient, and seemed just as excited as I in explaining to me what would happen at each new juncture. Once I had jumped through all the hoops and was cleared for surgery, things moved very quickly. Dr. Shebani himself performed my upper go on prep for my surgery so he knew if there was anything he had to worry about during the actual surgery. That gave me even more confidence going into the roux-n-y. He was just over all fantastic!

Soon as the Dr saw how bad my sugar levels were he said bypass is the best option for diabetes sufferers, some people have been known to leave hospital diabetes free! -
Calcium Citrate and Vitamin D3
catwoman7 replied to Ellf's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
according to the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (attached), most gastric bypass patients should get 3000 IU's of vitamin D a day (obviously, if your bloodwork is showing deficiencies, you should be taking more than that, though). If the daily total of D3 in your calcium citrate supplements equal at least 3000 IUs, then you may be OK - but I've always taken a separate D3 supplement. here are the supplement recommendations - you have to scroll down a bit to find how much of each you need: https://asmbs.org/app/uploads/2008/09/ASMBS-Nutritional-Guidelines-2016-Update.pdf -
Revision from sleeve to mini bypass 8/2/2019
elcee replied to SassyOne2's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m surprised that you are revising to the mini bypass if you have severe gerd, one of the potential side effects is severe bile reflux. Generally RNY is regarded as the best option for patients with GERD -
Hi Everyone, How did everyone's surgery go? I am scheduled for my revision surgery (from sleeve to GB) on July 25th. I deal with GERD and also have a hernia that will be repaired. I am excited and nervous all the same time. But i'm on a new journey in life, I've started a new job and this is just another step in my journey. I'm interested in hearing how my fellow July surgery buddies are doing. Thank you.

July 2019 - Surgery Schedule
demayome replied to Mom_of_Chaos's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, I am also on the 31st. I am 5 days into my liver shrinking diet, it was tough on day 3 but the closer it gets to surgery day the easier it will be. I hope all goes well on the 29th and you get approved for the 31st. We will be surgery siblings. I am also having RNY. Can you explain what a Pouch revision is? -
❤My Revision Story❤
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
💜💜💜💜 Thanks Everyone 💜💜💜💜 Day 6 post revision: I was going strong with energy, even danced a little in my bedroom yesterday Then the combo of weather and low cals swooped in. I'm exhausted. I don't have a large amount of fat reserve to recruit for energy like prior to VSG so I'm eagerly awaiting full liquids/pureed stage because I have things to do 😆. Otherwise doings ok, taking the meds/vitamins, drinking fluids, cooking foods I can't have for others lol, managing pain & falling asleep mid conversation 😂 Not a terrible first week 💜 -
Revision of RNY
LostFound21 replied to Notthe1sttime's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Sounds like maybe the surgeon intends to do a duodenal switch or something similar. I attended a WLS seminar and they said that's what the their surgeon usually uses for revision. I have my consult on August 21st but if that's what they suggest I'll go with it. -
Heellloooo *cough* ummm I'm baaaack too. I dunno why I stopped posting but I kinda took a social media break. Good luck with the revision surgery @GreenTealael and soz to hear about ur hernia dramas @Fluffychix

Revision of RNY
2ndTimeFreedom replied to Notthe1sttime's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello Valerie - my surgeon did not suggest this but I also do not know how much was bypassed originally so this may not have been needed in my case. I went to a revision specialist so I think had he suggested I may have asked for research (I still did this with my current surgery) and then discuss with the surgeon, my Primary and my family. I am still only a week out but I am so happy . For me, the recovery is so much easier second time around. -
July 2019 - Surgery Schedule
ValerieInMexico replied to Mom_of_Chaos's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I am July 31 - RNY and Pouch revision or "tune up", as I like to call it. I was worried that I would be too late for the July group, so I was also going to follow with the August group. My pre op appointment is July 29th where the Internist will review my test results before giving the final go-ahead for the 31st. I am doing well on the pre-op diet, and have lost about 10 pounds in the past month total. My tests show a fatty liver so I am really following the protocol closely. So if it is not too late, Please include me. I have met all the requirements for surgery already, in terms of test results so I am pretty sure it will be a go ahead. I really would like to be involved in the post surgery followup, to see how you are all doing! -

I’m so nervous for my revision surgery! It’s scheduled in just a couple weeks. If you’ve done this- how much different is the post-op experience? I have terrible GERD, and have had only a small amount of weight loss. -

Vets - How often do you weigh yourself?
Dr-Patient replied to Losebig's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I weight every day, first thing after going to the bathroom. I write it down. I'm almost six years post-VSG. Alas, in the past 2 years, I HAVE gained 25 pounds back and I am NOT happy about it. I never wanted to see 200 pounds again, but I am ~ 205. I am also having a very hard time getting back on track. So, advice: stay on track. I'm actually contemplating a revision because I do not want to get too far gone. Ghrelin is back and it is winning, at present. I had 5.5 great, happy years. The VSG was the BEST thing I ever did for myself. -
I am still Post Op week 1 in my revision surgery so I wanted to show you some extra support. I think this is great! I know my biggest challenge for me will also be getting in exercise I think I am allergic to it like I am shellfish I need to find the cure to that ASAP! Sending positive vibes and prayers for loads of menus.

Revision of RNY
ValerieInMexico replied to Notthe1sttime's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am going, on July 1, for my RNY revision surgery. My surgeon is going to examine the pouch and stoma, and make smaller if possible. What concerns me is that he is also going to increase the amount of intestine that is bypassed. My original RNY, done in 2000, what a short length. I am worried just because I have not read about anyone else having this done. I may just ask him that, if the pouch and stoma just appear stretched..... make that smaller and not do the bypass work. This will be a situation where I will be on my own after surgery. I mean, they are very responsive over phone and with emails, but there is no follow up appointments. My GP will work with me on monitoring my Iron, Calcium etc. Did any of your surgeons suggest this approach? -

You are very knowledgeable! This is why I chose the vsg, if needed I can revise, which I prefer not, but we will see what the future holds. My Dr wanted me to do the DS, but I refused, for now. -
Three days I will get the Gastric Bypass surgery, im no punk but im nervous.
