So my typical day consist of Protein shake in the morning made with GNC Protein powder and HEB Mootopia about 32 grams of protein, lunch time I've been eating a Protein Bar 10 to 20 grams of protein mattering what I can handle and at night I eat a Greek Yogurt with 15 grams of protein. Surgeon wants me eating 60 grams of protein so I am there. Real food does not always go down real easy. I have tried a lot and chicken and shrimp do not work. Taco meat is the best that I found I'll eat that with refried Beans and a little queso and I am good to go, but that is like once or twice a week. I have not got the results back form either of the test yet so I do not know. I have also seem my GP who was on the border of being concerned i guess. He was going to look at the test results and let me know his opinion. I really trust my GP but I am a little on the fence about the surgeon at this time. I am taking no Medication at this time. Thanks Captain

So I have noticed a lot of posts with people eating Greek Yogurt. Can you let me know if this is the fat-free version or normal version? Based on the website I went to all I saw was the fat-free version having plain flavor only. Are you mixing this with anything else? Are they good in smoothies?

A week of clear liquids post op is a new one for me but as everyone always says, every doc is different and always follow what your doc says! I am having my surgery tomorrow (YEAH!) and after discharge I will be on full liquids so I have stocked up on Protein powder, skim milk, Isopure (ready to drink clear protein drinks), several kinds of broth, cream of Soups (I will have to thin them out with milk and strain out any bits), Greek yogurt (again I will have to thin out), sugar free Jello, etc. In addition to food items I have another shopping list for all of the non food stuff like chewable Vitamins, milk of magnesia, miralax, gas x, etc. At least gathering all of this stuff keeps me occupied so I don't start dwelling on the big event tomorrow!

Hi dimples, For me I use the free my fitness pal app to track what I eat each day. I do track my major exercise in there (like spin class but not like cleaning or anything unless I break a sweat or its for a prolonged time) I also do not allow myself to eat my exercise calories back. Meaning when I burn 600 calories spinning the app puts it as food calories to eat, but I ignore that. I have found 1400 is about what I can eat and feel satisfied with. Sometimes I am under and sometimes over (I split a Cinnabon with my husband at the mall last week- when we were shopping, those have 500 calories in a just a HALF!) that was an over day for example! For me right now pre surgery: Breakfast: Fage Greek yogurt (the fruit mix in kind) or a premier protein shake (Carmel or chocolate are my favorites) also I add some cold brew coffee to the Carmel one if I am craving a morning coffee and it taste like a latte! Lunch: tuna with light mayo with a few thin crackers or on a turnamo( low carb wrap) instead of bread, a string cheese, A salad with Turkey and low calorie dressing, maybe some baked chips if I am craving a crunch or An apple. Some left overs of my high protien dinner the night before ( like chicken shishka bob and veggies that were on the grill, marinaded in soy sauce and a little honey & cider vinegar) And if I know I will be low on protein for the day( if I had a salad for lunch, then I drink a premier protien shake with/ after lunch. Dinner: this varies a lot! Some times on weekends I eat a CRAP dinner like a Friday fish fry, but eat less breading and only a tiny bit of tarter sauce on it, and the fries (I am a totally fry person, if your not sub for veggies to save on the carbs, but I love salty more than sweet so that is my treat instead of chocolate) I have found a lot of high protein recipes online that I use! Tonight for example we are eating a baked chicken breast, stuffed with apple slices and a little Gouda cheese, baked with some cubed sweet potatoes mixed with a dash of pam olive oil salt and pepper - baked all on one baking sheet for easy clean up. I have subed out white pasta for edamame pasta (get it at costco) or lentil pasta, and that taste fine to me with sauce and meatballs etc. even my husband eats it. I try and use marinades on things a lot more instead of sauces, I have found that helps keep calories low. I also love green beans, zucchini or a salad- and I use those a lot with dinner, to try and fill up and get some nutrients, as early on my dietician mentioned I needed more fruit/ veg in my diet. I have done riced cauliflower and mashed cauliflower as substitutes for rice or potatoes they are ok but not the same as the originals my husband won't eat them. I limit myself to one "carb" serving with dinner, so no more than 1/2-1 cup of rice, potatoes or bread item at dinner. I am a carb-a-holic otherwise. And try to avoid them at every other meal. Snacks/ desserts that are healthier than the alternatives that I like: beanitos chips (instead of tortilla chips, taste the same and has more protein) with guac or salsa. Halo top ice cream is only like 200 calories in a pint, so a scoop of that is very reasonable if you are craving ice cream. I also do make myself exercise 45mins 2x a week. I have done lots of different classes: once a week- like spin, a water jogging, boot camp, boxing, and I have an eliptical at home for my second time a week. I like to switch classes as I have a drop in style pass for place near me and I prefer trying different things and different times fit my schedule better. My surgeon said exercise would help weight come off faster and also help with avoiding loose skin, which I really would like to try and do, as best as I can. Good luck to you! I love sharing recipes if you are ever interested! -
Liquid diet wearing me down

Funny how our brain works! You would give anything for a raw veggie, and I feel like the taste of cottage cheese or yogurt would be heaven! -
My nutrionist gave these samples for meals during the mushie period. Breakfast - 2 oz cream of wheat with vanilla Protein powder or 1 soft scrambled egg cooked with fat-free cooking spray and unflavored Protein Powder lunch - 1 oz (2 tbl) baby food turkey with unflavored protein powder or 1 oz (2 tbl) mashed potatoes (thinned with milk) with unflavored protein powder or 2 oz (1/4 cup) baby food pears with unflavored protein powder dinner - 1/4 cup low fat cottage cheese with vanilla flavored protein powder or 1/4 cup pureed peaches with vanilla flavored protein powder also can use blended Soups like vegetable, tomato, bouillon and low-fat cream soups (4 oz) well cooked and thinned oatmean, cream of rice, grits(no butter) sugar-free Gelatin, baby food fruit or unsweetened pureed fruit, light yogurt, sugar-free low fat pudding I have to have 1-2 cups of skim milk daily also. Hope this helps Don't have a band date yet - working on it.
-
Kari, Why were you put on mushies so fast. I am on day 17 and I am still on slimfast and yogurts. Just wondering, I guess it depends on the Doctor. Eddra
-
Its the same with yogurts - particularly those really nice gourmet ones, greek yogurt with the fruit in the bottom. They're a single size container, but two servings. Who in the hell takes a yogurt to work and only eats half? its ridiculous.
-
Oh crap ... going to check that fancy greek yogurt with the fruit on the bottom.. I swear I have read the label a million times but perhaps I missed or chose not to read serving size .. there will be a nasty e-mail coming on to the company if thats the case.

Hi there So you are a week after me then. Congrats! The clear liquid diet- well honestly it stinks! I only had 3 days on that. I will be in full liquids now until this coming Monday- will go to puréed. The liquids are rough. Full liquids are better because i could add cream soups, SF pudding, High protein yogurt, and some refined grits. Oh and protein shakes. Still- I'm over all that too! Can't wait for puréed! Sick of soups and such. I am not cooking right now- making hubby and son fin for themselves! When I start puréed foods I will start cooking again.

Keep walking, an extra hundred steps here and there adds up. Make your protein goals to protect your heart and your muscles from wasting. Try to get those healthy calories in. The closer you can come to eating a normal calorie budget with some good activity, the better your metabolic reset will be. I've had great luck with oat meal and cream of wheat with almond milk. Whipped greek yogurt is another favorite that goes down super easy. You're doing great! keep working:) I believe in you.

please help it hurts to eat anything

Hi so sorry you are uncomfortable! Try starting your day with some hot tea or such and stay on mushies and liquid for a few days, it will get better! To make sure you still get a lot of protein, I would reccommend cottage cheese, lentle soup, and Kefir (probiotic yogurt). Good luck, and try to enjoy some of the softer foods for thankgiving today..... Zoe -
My favorite is to add Nature Valley Granola to any greek yogurt. I also love the Chobani Flips that come prepackaged with their own add-ins. The key lime with graham cracker crumbs and white chocolate chips is AMAZING! Who needs dessert when you can eat that instead?! YUM!!!

How is your wls journey different than others?
TonyaNKy posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon used no stitches just skin glue. He didn't use a catheter and I had an onQ pain control device implanted under my skin. I had to take it off when I got home. They also sent me home with those inflatable boots to wear at night or whenever I'm going to be sitting longer than 30 minutes. I'm on a pill to keep from getting gallstones for the next 6 months. My pre-op diet was anything for 2 weeks before surgery unless it had carbs or sugar or high fructose corn syrup. So I ate a lot of bacon, steak, hamburger, chicken and fish. Post op diet is a week of clear liquids, then the next week cream soups, creamy peanut butter, bananas, low carb yogurt and the like. I take a ton of vitamins as well as 4 protein shakes or drinks a day. It's been one week since my surgery and so far I feel amazing! -
Traveling abroad and diet
GreenTealael replied to angie_is_losing_it's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In my experience if you haunt the markets you can find staples just like we have domestically. Eggs, meat, veg, fruit, milk, yogurt, cheese, ...etc. You will be able to control your diet environment a little better that way. While dining out, take away will be your friend. But question preparation methods to avoid excess unnecessary cals or possible no go foods like high sugar content sauces. England should not be terribly challenging. Drink tons of water, take tons of pics... Enjoy vacay❤ -
You can try dressings that are yogurt or buttermilk based, rather than oil or mayo based - they are still low in carbohydrates but also naturally moderate in fats to keep the calories in check. They are typically around 2g of carbs and 3-4 on fats, yielding 50ish calories for a couple tablespoon serving. A lot more comfortable than 150 cal servings typical of full fat dressings. Bolthouse Farms has a line of yogurt based dressings in the refrigerator case, and Trader Joes has a few refrigerated dressings that fit in the moderate category, too. I'm carb and fat agnostic, so don't really care about those counts, but do want to get the most nutrition for my caloric buck - I'd rather spend my fat calories on the avocado in the salad than on just a bunch of oil.

Wsully: Try the Flintstones chewables, they're 100% better tasting than those big orange chewables. I've found a pretty good addition to my chocolate protein shakes. Add one small container of vanilla Activa yogurt. It tastes great and it helps keep things moving too -
Well still a “newbie” at only a month since VGS I just started soft foods. I can easily eat a cup (8oz) of Greek yogurt or cottage cheese, but I can barely get down 4 oz other proteins like meatloaf, tuna, etc.

Too much restriction?
miss_smiles replied to UpandAtom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 2 weeks post op I could not even eat food at that point, just protein shakes. But at 2 months post op - when I'm not drinking fluids I'm eating. I get between 500-800 (shooting for 1,000) calories a day. At the gym, I have been burning between 4-500. I need to eat more to lose in fact I was in a stall, and started eating more and broke the stall. I have between 5-6 meals a day all small in ounces (between 2 and 4 usually, 5 oz is pushing it), but all jam packed with protein (tuna, chicken, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, low fat cheese, etc). My doc said I should be eating 3 meals a day and no snacking, but I can't do that and get enough food in. So I have been doing this, and nearly 2 months and 40 pounds down, I would say its working. Maybe try to look on here for other recipes, and things you can eat at your stage. Everyone's body is different. It will get better! Good luck! -

-
In trying new food items is there a maximum grams of sugar per serving to abide by... Ex cereals, oatmeals, yogurts ect.

I had to be at the hospital at 6:30 in the morning of Thursday, August 17th. I had my husband drop me off with my overnight bag, and he drove another half hour to work as he had several meetings there that day. I told him I would be fine and that he could stop by on his way back home. The surgery went well and I was back to my room by 11:00am, watching t.v. I had clear liquids and jello for lunch and then the Dr. came by and said everything went as planned and he would like me to begin walking about 6 times that day. So...I got out of bed and walked around the floor a couple of times and did my lung breathing machine to keep me from getting pnemonia. My husband showed up about 4:30 and he walked with me and then left to go home. I didn't need any pain medication the first day, but on Friday before noon and before my husband came to get me I asked for something as my port side was starting to hurt. They gave me Toradal and Motrin in my IV. That seemed to help. Getting into bed that night was terrible. That was the worst part of the whole surgery was geting in and out of bed and sitting down on the toilet and pulling my self up again. OUCH! I had to hold pressure on my port side when I walked around the house on Friday and Saturday and Sunday. Monday it was a little less sore. I was having some gas pains also during these first few days in my left shoulder area. Today is Friday and I can now get in and out of bed pretty pain free and even slept on my stomach last night. I took the Vicodin Friday and Saturday night only and Childrens Liquid extra strength Tylenol as well. I was on clear liquids from Thursday until Wednesday when the Dr.s nurse called to see how I was doing I told her I felt very weak. I told her I was having a bout of diahrrea as well and she said that was normal being on just the clear liquids. She said I could try some yogurt and Slim Fast, but not full cream soups yet. I had yougurt for dinner that night, but had those gas pains back in my shoulder area right after eating it.

Anyone Get Sick Close To Surgery Date?
Sojourner replied to BeeBlueHeron's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's best to begin to focus on adjusting your eating patterns now to those you will need to comply with post op. Dry toast of any description/content and crackers are prime culprits for precipitating stuck episodes post op. I definitely understand the limitations of taking medications on an empty stomach; I don't tolerate that well. What you want to do is to coat the lining of your stomach. Though I understand that dairy products may increase the production of mucus in your body, and are not the best choice now, in the future consider drinking some 1% milk or eating SF very low fat yogurt when taking your meds will be helpful. I'd try some no sugar added natural applesauce to take along with your medications. You can even take the meds with your Protein shakes. But stay away from the dry wheat products; they are not your friends post op.
