My surgeon's office emailed me to tell me I was approved then called me the next day to schedule a date. I think I received a letter from the insurance company in the mail a week later. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Any November sleevers out there
wvsleever replied to mz.newlife54's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am scheduled for November 3, I started my 2 week liquid pre op diet today. I work nights so this is going to be a little bit of a challenge. However it is so going to be worth it. I am excitedly nervous... I am sure most of you can understand what I mean. I am excited to start on this new journey and finally have a good tool to help me lose the weight I need to lose. I know its not going to be an easy fix and I have to put a lot of work into it. I am nervous because, well its surgery, need I say more? I am looking forward to hearing from others. and how everyone is doing. Happy sleeving!!! -
Any November sleevers out there
Mike4132 replied to mz.newlife54's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I received my insurance approval last week. I'm not officially scheduled yet but they are telling me it will most likely be in November so I'll say I'm a November sleever unless I hear otherwise! Congratulations by the way! Are you nervous? -
Am 3 days into Puréed foods. I used to have the lapband and wasn't successful with it. This time I am finding it had to swallow the puréed foods like chicken. I am actually finding it hard to swallow at all. Is this normal?

Supportive Daughter
Leave it to Sleever replied to Leave it to Sleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
GUESS WHAT? My mom found out her surgery date! It is Aug. 17th. So she will be starting her 2 week pre-op diet next week. Woa. I am very excited for her. She, however, is not manifesting the reaction I thought. Don't get me wrong, she is going to do it, of course. So my question is. Did anyone else feel not so elated when the surgery date was announced? I mean the anticipation seemed more exciting for her than the actuality of the event. Maybe she is scared that it is now a reality?? What do ya'll think? (She found out Friday, July 23). Maybe it'll pass. -
I am on week 2. Everytime I see a food commercial or someone eating I get this rage inside of me and want to strangle someone! Lol anybody else feel this way?

Scared to weigh tomorrow....
LeslesLosingIt replied to LeslesLosingIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't taken measurements yet. I will do that this week. I can tell I've lost some. It's hard to notice. I also didn't take proper before pictures, which I regret big time now. -
Scared to weigh tomorrow....
LeslesLosingIt posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So mondays are my official weigh days. I try to stay off the scale (I don't own any, work at a doctors office and use those) except for one day a week. I had surgery 12/28 and last week I didn't lose any from the week before. I was on my cycle, and I"m hoping that was the issue... but I'm honestly scared to weigh tomorrow and not see the numbers the dropped. I know that is ridiculous, and that this isn't all about the numbers, but I don't want to feel defeated if it stays the same. I am getting my Protein in, all the Water I can (which some days is below what I should be... but 99% of the time I get it and then some). I also started working out this weekend, I'm hoping that will make a difference. I know this forum is full of "stall" posts and I'm sorry to add to that... I just worry about getting down on myself. -
Some WLS patients have this, especially soon after surgery. I definitely experienced the (sometimes embarrassing) gurgling for probably close to a year post-op. It has calmed down a lot, but even at three years post-op now, it does still happen occasionally. (No esophagus sensation, just stomach gurgling.) If it is just stomach gurgling, I would not be concerned that anything is wrong, but I don't have any medical knowledge to help you understand WHY this happens. Since you talk of a sensation in your esophagus though, that sounds more like you could be having some acid reflux going on. I would definitely mention it in our F/U appt if I was in your position. Glad you're doing well otherwise, and hope this annoyance clears itself up soon. . .

My plan is having it done in York. I live in Dallastown and work in the York area. I cannot travel all over the place every 4-6 weeks. I'm guessing Dr.Monk's biggest concern is that I'm a recovering alcaholic. I decided GB was way more risky then LB regarding relapse. The Psych Doc and my Family Doc, felt very confident that I would be fine. I felt judged by him, due to of my past. I could have lied and never said a word. I hope and pray he does the surgery. I've gained sooooo much weight in the past year. Pretty face with a plus size body !

Nervous about a stall already
tchrwen replied to janacreid's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Try not to rely on the scale....that is always a down fall. I have trained myself not to look at the scale more than twice a month,.,.,..it is really hard, but you always see a difference then and you learn the idea of loosing weight over time. I have lost 60 pounds since March 22, my surgery date, and 20 from the two weeks before surgery. I am close to goal and slowing on weight loss. I am learning to be happy with this progress. Feeling great! good luck -
Hey sleevers, I had my surgery on 08-11-2015. The first week and a half I had no problems with nausea just gas and pain/soreness. Going into 2-3 weeks and I'm constantly nauseated. food is evil to me now. Any kind of food is hard to eat. Everything tastes overly sweet especially that fake sugar garbage they tell you to consume. All the Protein shakes I was made to purchase are disgusting. It's one thing if I could just chug it down but now sine my stomach is so small I have to sip on it for over an hour? Nope. So I know I'm not getting enough protein. Tried to eat more protein in diet although I'm vegetarian so it takes a bit more and being able to handle different types of foods which I can't right now in this stage of recovery. I was on zofran but caused very bad migraines. Then was put on Phenergan but pills was too chalky and made it worse to take, made me more nauseated. Tried to take some pepto bit started dry heaving and eventually threw that up. Finally got a rx patch for nausea and bought sea bands for acupressure. They have helped but it is still hard to eat anything. The nausea kicks in high gear once I start to smell the food I'm about to eat. I've been living off triscuits, mashed potatoes, and cheese. I can't even handle broth or Soups for the most part. I want to do better with my food but I'm in limbo. I drink plenty of ice Water so I'm not dehydrated. It's worse in the morning for some reason. I don't know if it'd because it has been a long time since my last meal? I stopped my nexium after the surgery. I haven't had heartburn. It's all nausea but I started taking it again to see if it's some sort of reflux issue...but no such luck yet. I don't have any other symptoms so I know it's nothing serious from the procedure. Has anyone else had this problem? How long did it last? How did you over come it? I'm at a loss. I was fine the first week then after that it's been a struggle. It's so weird. HELP!!! Sincerely, Would rather be in pain then constant nausea.

Ok so im having surgery on Feb 5th and im currently into my liquid/low sugar/no carb required liver reduction diet. However since I started this diet, I've been nauseous and dizzy. Also suffering from severe migriane attacks. Now I understand I had huge caffeine dependencies as well as high sugar and carb meals. However im wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if so what did you do to overcome the pain? I did call my nutritionist she advised me I could have very small amounts of whole wheat if it helps with my nausea. And it has. I actually have some hummus with whole wheat crackers and it seems to help in the short term. Any other ideas since I'm unable to take any OTC medication for my symptoms.

I weighed yesterday and today and I think my stall has finally ended. I'm almost afraid to say that in case it is just a fluke! Anyway if it's not, I dropped 4.5 pounds and an .5 a pound under 200 (that's 199.5). I'm just crossing my fingers that my scales are correct! I'll feel better when I lose another 2 or so and get farther away from Mr. 200!!

Hi, I am having my band done by Dr. Lopez on Aug 5th (one day before my birthday) great present right? I am excited. The part that will be hard will be waiting 6 weeks for a fill. I hope that goes by pretty quick. Do you have any advice? Thanks, Mary

Hi, I have been lurking and reading here for awhile and figured I would join the fun. I am three weeks pre-op, on the pre-op diet. I am having surgery on August 19th, with Dr. Kuri, in Tijuana. I am doing very well on the pre-op diet, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I am very excitied about the whole process. I finally feel like I have found the thing that can help me be successful. I look forward to joining in and being part of this great support system here.

I would ask the following questions : Do you log your food intake (write it down, log into MyFitnessPal, etc)? How many calories a day are you eating? Have you cut out carbs from sugar, pasta, breads, sweets, white potatoes, etc? I found out my BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) (mine is currently 1653) and I subtract 750 calories (to aim at losing 1 1/2 pounds a week), netting me around 900 calories a day. I burn approximately 650-700 calories a day doing 65 mins of cardio. I usually eat back some of those calories burned. I also choose not to weigh daily or even weekly (my choice) and every single month I've dropped from 4 to 9 pounds. I think logging caloric intake has helped. Best Wishes

6 weeks later, down 29#, but exhaustion and nausea?
Machta posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
G'day, all. I'm almost 6 weeks out, and the weight loss is going very well. I'm down 29# and about 2 sizes. My 18yo daughter is so excited for me, and so is my husband! She points out changes in my body, from "I can fit my arms around you to hug all of you now!" to "Your knees look different!" I am so blessed to have them behind me in this journey. Just a few negatives right now -- I still have to have a BIG nap (2+ hours) almost every day. I hope that improves soon. Also, just today, I'm having some nausea. I decided to go back to pureed food for a day to see if that helps, and it does a little bit. I'd love to hear from anyone else who has had exhaustion and/or nausea at 6 weeks . . . although overall this is SO worth it! Best of luck to everyone. This is not an easy journey, but by the grace of God, we'll all get through it!- 3 replies

Who Are You Telling
iegal replied to Look@meitsEmily's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay - I have a different point of view. Hopefully this does not make me ostracized. You do realize that each person chooses what is best for their own situation and circumstances, right? I didn't tell anyone other than my fiancé and three very close girlfriends. My mom did not know for three months and she lives less than a mile away. My dad still does not know, nor does most of the family. My daughter found out about a month after surgery when she came back from college for a visit and read paperwork I had left out accidentally. Last thing she needed was to worry about her mom while she was out of state and unable to support me. Her focus was to be elsewhere. Emotionally most of my my family & friends could not understand my need for WLS. Mom told me I just needed to "tape my mouth shut", easily said for a woman who has never worn over a size 4 her entire life. Others thought I should give conventional programs another shot. Yeah, like I had not tried repeatedly. How could I explain to them that "trying harder" was not the fix for me? I had VSG for me alone. With a BMI of 33+ I was obese but not obese enough to medically qualify for surgery. So, my weight loss was easily explained away with a initial liquid diet, eating differently with dramatic portion control, exercising more and I stopped eating out. Now my mom knows about. Yes, she was upset I did not tell her but agrees she would have been a barrier in that initial weight loss. Those who do not understand the struggles of being overweight simply could not understand my journey. Glad you all have an audience who accept WLS, I simply did not. I chose my support group wisely. I knew my audience and their levels of tolerance. VSG decision was too personal to share with mere co-workers or acquaintances. Would not change how I handled. It was perfect for me. Listen to your heart so you what is best for you. -

Already Getting Cold Feet
SuzanneG replied to Ditkadog1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
By the time I scheduled my surgery I couldn't diet if you paid me a million dollars. I joined WW with a friend as my last attempt before resorting to surgery. I didn't make it 3 weeks and I quit. I think I had truly hit some kind of emotional wall. I was just so OVER dieting. Don't get me wrong, I love food too and I still enjoy it, just much less of it. The band is successful with a huge percentage of people. You'll be amazed how much easier it is when you aren't fighting that hungry tiger all the time. Willpower is not the way to lose weight. That's like trying to push a rock up a hill, how long can you do it before it overtakes you. You need a permanent solution and lapband, IMHO, is the best thing going! Good luck and let us know how you are getting along. I'll be cheering for you! -
It's been 7 days...

I can't imagine 10 days of clears! 3 days about did me in. Of course, I'm 2 weeks into my full-liquids month and I'm already gagging on cottage cheese and SF pudding. I'm dreaming of purees and adding in meat/fruit!! -

Nausea 3weeks post-op?
IncredibleShrinkingMan replied to CelestialNyx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are lucky in one sense...you have landed in that cohort whose taste buds appear to have completely changed. I have had no change whatsoever in my inclinations towards food. I just have to eat some dense Protein to kill the hunger. I agree with the poster above...ISOPURE is amazing, and is no-fat and 1g-carb for...40g PROTEIN per 20 oz bottle. I used them until just about a week ago when I was still struggling to get my protein requirement. They are available as single bottles or as 12-packs at the Vitamin Shoppe. Are you still taking any pain meds? Anything I took gave me horrible nausea, so I stopped taking them altogether while I was still in the hospital. Also, drinking Water more quickly than you are prepared to can generate this sick feeling as well. Best of luck! -
