    Weight Gain?

Hey Much Congratulations, although many will be adverse I believe your Young Lady was meant to be, she👶 just didn't want to wait to make YOU her Mommy! My own Mommy , I believe had what Prince William's wife _(and also his Mum had) they had to stop the gurney on her way to be delivered so she could vomit. List 15 pounds but I was a healthy husky 7 pounds & 12 ounces, 10-12 says early, if I had "baked" another two weeks maybe theyvwoykd have been warned. how BIG I was going to Grow! And I was a product of the mid 49s when Healthy Babies were Fat Babies, at a year I was 35 inchs tall, 26 pounds, the size of today's 2- 2 1/2 year old. Some people were BORN TO BE WILD, well I was BORN TO BE FAT and it wasn't until 72 I was able to defeat my heritage with a RNY BYPASS and a good bariatric surgeon who kept me motivated and said No You're NOT TOO OLD! God Bless and keep safe my Bradley J Needleman MD who gave me a chance to have a Future instead of a rapidly approaching Death! And now I look like this👗instead of a cheese puffball with Red Hair m
  4. Hi! Anyone with Kaiser SoCal (Inland Empire) that has a revision from band to RNY? If so, did the surgeon do the revision in one or two surgeries? Thanks!! I feel so in the dark throughout this whole (lengthy) process! Amanda

    What The Hell Man

I had a colleague years ago that had bypass surgery and this is what she used to say: Thanks for your concern, my doctor says I’m healthy - and I also want to thank you for acting like you never even noticed my weight when I was fat. That was very kind and it would be great if you would be just as kind now and continue acting like you don’t notice - and then she would walk away or change the subject. I wish we hadn’t lost touch. I’d love to have her as a mentor now!
  6. Fitzer is fantastic. I had my gastric bypass with him almost exactly a year ago. I would recommend taking at least 2 weeks off from work, including telework. It's not that you can't manage things like e-mail and phone calls, but you will want to focus on your post-op routines during that time, and that includes drinking frequently, as well as eating different types and quantities of foods as you progress through the green sheet.

    Hard time swallowing

you're in the right time frame for a stricture. It's not the esophagus that gets stretched, usually - it's the stoma that connects the stomach with the small intestine. Sometimes scar tissue overgrows there, closing off the hole (this is what a stricture is). They just do an upper endoscopy and use a tool to stretch it out a bit. I had two - one at four weeks out and one at eight weeks out. Strictures, if they're going to happen, are almost always during the first three months after surgery - they're very rare after that. BTW - about 5% of bypass patients have them.

    Medication question from a newbie

It is possible you might not even have to/ need to take them post surgery. Every Doctor is different. Mine has his patients take them for 3 months after surgery as a protection for healing the new staple line and connections. That is the only reason, at this point, I am still taking them at all. I hope to have no issues once I wean off of it... we will see. I can tell you the relief from GERD has been really, really awesome for myself post bypass. Good luck to you in your journey!

    Getting Ready for Surgery

Hey, congrats on this great move! I had my gastric bypass two weeks ago yesterday and I feel great. Here are some things I have experienced that may help you: The gas pain HURTS and pain killers don't take it away. Saw a video (after the fact) that a woman took Gas-X melting strips and she said that worked like a blessing. I didn't do that so I can't speak for it. Walk. Walk. Walk!!! Walk as soon as you are able in the hospital. I did so many laps and I believe that this led to my quick and easy recovery. Head hunger is real and can sure fool you into thinking you are hungry. Don't let your old habits carry over to your new self. Walk away from head hunger and do something interesting instead of eating. Don't overeat and don't under eat. Make sure you have at least two protein shakes a day (60 grams of protein) and drink as much clear liquid as you can. It's very hard to get all this in, especially in the beginning but try. Don't expect quick weight loss. In the two weeks post surgery, I have only shed 10 pounds. But I feel good and that matters most. I know weight will eventually come off because my caloric intake is a fraction of what it used to be. The biggest thing for me was finding out that my mind did not know I went through the surgery. I still craved food, looked through recipes, watched MasterChef with envy. But your body very much knows you went through surgery. Eat or drink too fast or too much, and your body will let you know. So far, I've only had tiny pain from drinking too big a gulp but it's very easy to forget to eat small and slow. Be positive and be happy. You are going through a lot and putting your body through a lot. Enjoy the possibilities of a brighter future and enjoy the ride! Best of luck to you!
  10. I am 43 days out from having gastric bypass. I would say about 80% of the time that I eat I wind up throwing up, because it is getting stuck. I am chewing my food until there is almost nothing there. It happens with meat, veggie, eggs it doesn't matter what it is. Things that I have eaten before just fine. Dr. Richards mentioned having my esophagus stretched. Has anyone had to have their esophagus stretched?

Is that a thing? Intubation? With bypass, not sleeve? I didn't know. Hmmm, not want to consider that myself. I did know about the NSAIDS

    New and anxious

She had her sleeve a year and a half ago, but the acid reflux was doing terrible things to her. She had her revision last week on the 24th and has had a few complications, now she has a picque line and will have a nurse come to her house daily. Her process has actually scared me. The Dr isn't sure if she has some sort of blockage and may need another surgery. Damn Sorry to hear that about your friend. I hope she gets to feeling better real quick! And it sounds like her Dr’s all over it. 🤞 🙏
  14. Hello everyone, my name is Carolf5 and I am here to say that I have made the mistake that I originally said that I would not do. I originally had my Gastric Bypass surgery on 12/17/2012 and I lost 287 pounds-fast. The following year I was still losing and then the next year my face looked like a skeleton and I needed to add a bit to it. So, I was told to add some carbs back into diet-ended up being a big mistake. I ended up gaining a lot back to the carbs-mostly crackers. I tried to stop and found it too hard to do so so, now I am going to do the pouch reset and hope that helps me get rid of the carb problem. I will have to get rid of all carbs completely. Definitely no crackers. I should have already done this. My main problem is that I work the night shift at our busy hospital and so my eating schedule is all turned around. I work on our busy Cardiac floor where I do blood draws and EKGs along with patient care. big problem for a bit is that we have been overly understaffed and that has put a lot of stress on me. The biggest busy time is from 4am to 7am where I do the blood draws, EKGs, weights, vital signs and also people need to go to the bathroom, etc.. Big stress time. I am 69 years old and for me it has gotten to be a big bit. I am trying to make it through this year before I try to go down to 72 hours or to another floor-for my sanity and stress. So, today I am starting my pouch reset. Need to go to Walmart this morning for some jello and frozen popsicles. I have frozen dill pickle juice pops for any leg cramps-it works. Onward I go. I now currently weigh 200 pounds. My original weight before surgery was 308 pounds. I got down to 145 pounds and then gained.

    ❤My Revision Story❤

Okay so I had heard numbers somewhat similar to this. I’ve suffered GERD from my earliest memories. I had GERD in grade school and had to sleep upright all during pregnancy. In fact, if I wasn’t careful, I’d bend over to tie my shoes and almost gag on the acid coming up (not pregnant, just on a normal day) Sleeping on 2 pillows was always a must for me because of the GERD. I’ve been on PPIs for years and years and years. If I’d bought stock in Pepcid complete, I’d be rich by now just on what I’ve spent through the years. My father also suffers GERD and actually has Barrett’s. Imagine my surprise when I was scoped and zero, nada, zilch Barrett’s (or any other kind of complication) from over 40 years GERD. Heck, I was halfway resigned to the fact that I was going to be forced to have RNY despite my wish for VGS. My surgeon told me about these same numbers and I went with sleeve because there was a 2 out of 3 chance it would get better, and the other chance I’d have to have a revision down the line. So far..... fingers crossed...... it has improved somewhat. There are times when it bothers me—usually when I’ve overeaten, or eaten AND drank red wine. Lol, I’ve only done that twice and neither time was it a good idea. Also, if I skip my PPI for more than 2 days I can feel it starting to bother me, but now that I’ve lost over 75 pounds, it’s soooooo much more manageable. I would definitely say that while VGS definitely did NOT cure my GERD, It definitely did not get worse and is better than it was. Not sure if that’s because of better diet, or losing a crap ton of weight, or the surgery. 🤷‍♀️

    Cost of surgery -- WOW

Both my sleeve and bypass thru BCBS were around the 50 grand mark per EOB
  22. No, I see my surgeon for the last time before surgery this Thursday. I can’t believe it’s almost here. I get what you mean about the co-worker thing. Mine aren’t exactly decent either. My sister-in-law went back to work one week after having gastric bypass. My surgeon told me that if I couldn’t get 2 weeks off from work, that I could go back to work in a week. If you’re not feeling your best, you could lie yet again and say that you contracted a virus in Mexico😋 Best of luck to you!!!
  23. I gained 11lbs from IVs during my revision from VSG to RNY. All of it was lost during the week following. Don't stress about it.

  25. I'm one of these people hahahaha. I'm 9 months out (sleeve though, not bypass) and I will down a protein shake if I find I am low on my protein quota at the end of the day. I also always have a packet of protein powder (and beef jerky!) in my purse just in case I end up needing to eat something and there is nothing appropriate around to consume)
