Hi Mom! It wasnt until week 7 that I could eat something like chili, it has a tendency to be VERY gassy on our new formed tummy's. So be patient, you will start on regular foods soon enough! FYI: this is one food that I MUST eat slow - it clog's the stoma easily. And one more bit of info about chili that I JUST found out; to add MORE protien to it, order a small meat patty along with the chili (Wendy's sell's just the patty's for .60 cents) then break it up and stir it into the chili. It helps fill you up AND you get more protien!!!

I have a similar story after my band was fitted in Sept 2007 I had to wait 5 months for a fill which was unsuccessful due to the port turning 360 degrees. I had the port turned in June 2008 and when I came to have a fill weeks later the port had moved again although it was supposed to have been sewn to my rib. So I still have no restriction 16 months on. The surgeon said I needed a someone with more experience after 15 attempts to fill under Xray on one day.He discharged me that day leaving to sort the problem out. I contacted P.A.L.S who referred me to the Chief Exec with no satisfaction then the Complaints at my local PCT then my GP. Only after contacting ICAS the NHS arbitrator this week I have got things moving and have a appointment for next week.

Does adding a protein supplement to your meals help keep you filled up? I've been reading about unflavored protein powder, specifically the Unjury brand. Does that kind of protein work the same way, as chicken in filling you up? I am trying to eat my protein. I haven't had a protein shake since week 2 after surgery. I'm still in the process of getting my band filled to the right amount, and I find that I'm hungry a lot. Would this kind of protein be helpful for me? Thanks!

Upset And Depressed :(
Lori Voss Green replied to Sarahemma94's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had some serious depression after surgery. I am only 9 days post-op and it has already gotten better. I suffer depression/anxiety anyway, and I found it came on full force after surgery. My husband is an AMAZING cook & I was sitting here smelling the yummy food he was cooking for him and our daughter....and I was having broth and Soup. I wanted to give up. I am not a back sleeper either. I sleep on my side all the time. The first few days I couldn't do that, which meant not being comfortable. By day 5 or so, I was able to sleep on my side. One thing that really helped life my mood was my 1 week follow up with the dr. Incisions were all looking good, the dietitian said I could move to soft/pureed foods (that alone made tears come to my eyes!) and I had lost 16 lbs. It just really helped to remind me WHY I am doing this. -
I think it depends on the definition of snack. I'm just eating when I'm hungry (on good days), which happens to be every three hours (pre fill). This takes me up to four meals a day, or three meals and a snack. I would love to make it to four hours between meals, but when I say hungry, I do mean hungry!

Any Ladies Lose Over 130 In A Year To 15 Months Here?
Tiffykins replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I delivered Tatum on 30 October, all is well. I gained 35lbs in the pregnancy. Lost 23-25 of those pounds in the first 4-5 weeks after her arrival. Around late -January I decided to jump back on the low carb wagon, working out 5 days a week, and had a miserable 2 pound loss. I wasn't hungry, had my restriction, and I couldn't figure out what was going on. Low and behold, I'm pregnant again. Right now, I'm right at 8 weeks pregnant, and Tatum just turned 4 months old. Least to say, I'm exhausted to a level that can not be defined. -
Welcome Serena It's a long process isnt it? It was a year and a few months of prep for myself - i know how it feels. I personally think the pre-op diet is the worst - certainly if you have a doc who puts you on weeks of liquids as some do. My own Dr. is a big fan of strict Atkins induction for shrinking livers pre-op and I guess my own was a teeny tiny thing when they went in - and I lost 14 lbs in about 11 days on mine (I think I lived on chicken and cheese - much like now haha, only much smaller portions

Anyone else for the bonus plate of band + hiatal hernia?
helensmith replied to KelliW's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
geesh , i appreciate your prayers , the herinia is form so many opertions on stomach area it is wearing and has a size of a baseball that pouches out but stomach under right breast is size of football and about 1" bigger thank left side i thought that was just from the scaring where they cut me open 4 times on stomach does not hurt i think its a insisional hernia, but i just got apt for cardiac doc next fri and waiting on phyc to call back and doc for apt for cat scan and then i get blood work done so i will know with in a few weeks i guess, my doc put on paper of referal for bariatric surgery for me (quote ) This is to certify that Ms Smith is under my medical care. She has hyuperlipidemia and worsening type 2 diabeties. she has failed a number of diest and has tried to lose weight unsuccessfully over the past frew years, she has asthma and memorrioids tthat have been exacerbated by her condition as well, while her blood pressure is currentyl controlled, i do not expect her other conditions to improve without some weight loss. i think that she is a good candidate to undergo bariatric surgery. ( end quote) now with him saying that i i have been with him for a few years trying to loose weight will that be sufficent enough for the six months ? i am so depressed, :help: -
I'm so sorry you are having problems! I'm almost four weeks post-op and still have tenderness in the port area--I think that is normal. You should probably call your doctor about the tightness in your chest. If nothing else, he could put you at ease if that is normal. Good luck to you--remember you did this to be a healthier person and you will be! Hang in there.

Scale not moving advice please
silvers320 replied to T&tummy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would try using dailyplate.com (or some other online journal) for a couple of weeks to track your food. It sounds like a lot of work but it really isnt and is it so worth it. A lot of times what we think is "enough" or the "right choice" - isnt. And if you dont - how can you correct? -
Hello !!! Looks like everything is a go, I'm a bit frustrated as our Bariatric center where Dr. Heyderi does the Banding requires an orientation but it isn't until Jan. 25th , I've been waiting for weeks since i called , it's for the best though , I need all I can find out to do this right ! I'm getting nervous already and actually decided not to get banded once , I became really fed up when I went shopping for my neice who's a tiny thing ,lol , I decided that things are going to be about me for once and making ME happy !! That I will be shopping on the "normal" side of the clothing store. I'll keep updating after the orientation , hopefully I'll be able to set a surgery date soon after !! Thanks for all your support and info , especially to my Band Angel.. HUGS Lisa:clap2:

:angry OMG still no sleep. 15 days I can't take it anymore! Hubby thinks I should do housework and then i will get tired and fall asleep....he totally doesn't understand sleep apnea! I even tried rum and coke last night....still no sleep. I feel like a zombie! I called the sleep people....finally my report is on the doc's desk, he reads it, and faxes it to my doc. I called my doc 2 days ago, talked to Nurse-Zilla again.....bitch! She said ya know it takes two weeks (mind you I hadn't even asked her anything yet..that was her greeting) ......and i said...yeah but there is a rush on this and I haven't slept since July 19th.......I told her I can't take it anymore and that it was affecting my health and my personal life. Did I say bitch? I meant Uber-Bitch. If anyone ever hears that I wrapped my car around a tree because of lack of sleep.....please tell the authorities it was the U.B's fault. Maybe U.B. could use some homemade brownies to cheer her up (who cares if I lace them with Chocolatey Ex-lax!!!!)...ugh i feel like I am gonna whig.....gotta log off! :nervous

I do not know if I agree with that theory..I drink 2 cups every morning loaded with cream and sugar and I have been losing 2-3 lbs a week with no exercise and no effort since surgery 6 and a half months ago . If anything it is an appetite suppressant for me..just my theory

I am the same way, I think it depends a lot on what you are taking in and if it causes Water retention. I actually went from month 7-9 with about a 5 lbs gain but have since lost all of the gains plus an additional 3-4 lbs over the last 3 weeks. So, I think it is normal for fluctuation and extended stalls the further you get out and the closer you get to goal.

Thank you to all of you.....I am trying to understand these feelings you are having and symptoms you are experiencing. I am the mother of a mildly mentally disabled 18 year old young man. He has been through extensive therapy and whatever else they could think of. It has been a year since the process began, but they found him to be capable of dealing with the change of eating habits. He had surgery on May 10th. This is the 5th day since surgery. I need to know if he is hungry..or deprived . He tells me he is hungry...but then he eats very little...5 or6 spoons of soup. He says he craves something sweet. We bought every flavor of every sugar free drink in the store, I did discover shaved ice today. He loved it! The protein drinks are getting old to him. I am afraid he is answering my questions the way the way he thinks I want to hear........Does this phase truly have to be 2 entire weeks. I am not sure he can eat and drink this day in and day out. Am I over reacting...is he just confused...I read where the head must catch up to the stomach....H es had no problems......thank goodness. He walks...goes places already...does not complain of any pain just soreness. He seems a little more tired than normally. he has had a bowel movement daily since Wednesday. I almost feel like I should ask for him to move to the soft "real food" in phase 2. Maybe his recovery is different due to his young age. Tell me what your bellies feel like before and after you drink the protein drink or eat the soup? I just need reassurance........by the way he was 458b/f surgery and on Thursday...he had lost 16 pounds. when he did the pre op diet, it was a modified version ....he ate one meal a day along with the protein shakes throughout the day. Today he was in a drug store with me and went down an aisle that had candy and snacks on it. I saw him look at it and I asked if it was hard for him to see it and he said yes. How can I help him best?

Are you keeping an actual food journal to log the breakdown of your calories/fats/carbs/protein? Sounds like you are getting in an OK amount of Protein, but might need more. At 6 weeks you should be aiming to get 80-90g at a minimum. And it's good if you can get half of that in before mid-day, rather than lumping it all in the afternoon. If you can, mix up what you're eating rather than eating the same thing more than twice a day. Are you logging your fluids as well, 64oz or more per day? How much are you exercising? It might be time to bump it up a little, like 10% more. More than likely it's just a stall. The human body is not a perfectly tuned machine and can have it's quirks. Be patient, I'm sure it will break soon!!

1500 mg calcium citrate and 2 bariatric vitamins a day. B12 once a week. Oh vitamin D 4000 units a day. Not bad I think. I already took calcium and a vitamin daily before surgery.

Stall? Same weight down to the oz.
gettinghealthymom1 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm at 3 1/2 weeks and I've weighed the same weight for over a week and I'm the same exact weight every day down to the ounce! Is this common? So weird and I'm so ready for this weight to come off! Atleast something move and I find it so odd that it's down to the ounce that is not moving! Anyone have similar situations? -

wantingabetterlife replied to gettinghealthymom1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to the wonderful world of stalls. Like @@Tammylb said, they happen....regularly. Even when going through one, your body can change. I got stuck for almost three weeks at the same weight. During that time, my body shifted and I lost quite a few inches. Then one day, the scale started to move again and pounds started coming off. Just stick to your program and drink lots of water! Some people even suggest upping your calories so your body doesn't think it's starving. Good luck and best wishes!!! -
Difficulty swallowing pills after surgery
angela9298 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, I tried to do some research on this before I posted but didn't seem to find anything. I've never had a problem taking pills before. I would take a few smaller pills at a time, no problem. I'm currently one month post op, and I've been taking my surgeon prescribed Prilosec and actigall since one week post op. I had been having trouble getting these down. It wasn't so much my stomach giving my problems, it was actually swallowing them, and getting them to my stomach. They felt like they were stuck in the back of my throat! I drank Water but it didn't seem to help, slowly I would feel them going down. Now that I'm a month post op, I just added a one a day Multivitamin capsule instead of the liquid I was taking, and it's really thrown me off the deep end. I feel like they get in my throat and two days in a row I had to run to the bathroom because I was this close to throwing up. I just can't think of a reason why I would be having physical difficulties swallowing pills now. Once they make it to my stomach I'm fine. Is this all in my head? Has anyone else had this issue? Or any suggestions? I'll talk to my doctor next week anyway. Thanks for the help! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
