MinnieSD posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I had my Gastric Bypass on Thursday morning, today is Sunday afternoon and I have no appetite whatsoever and am struggling to drink anything and shakes, smoothies and yoghurts I just cannot get down me, any suggestions? Im drinking as much milk as I can for the protein content but even thats a struggle Also I'm unsure exactly how much I should be consuming a day, my diet sheet says to try yoghurts, custards etc but whats the size portion that I should be consuming? Thanks -
Thought rollercoaster ...

The best thing that I have done for my physical body? Having the guts to be a WLS patient. It's been 5 years. I have to be revised. I would do it all over again! For me is/was worth everything I am going through today. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hi. Complications like a leak are not common. Both the bypass and sleeve have that as a remote possibility, but it doesn't happen very often. On the other hand, the complications that come with being morbidly obese are much more common!! Don't let your friend's experience cloud your judgment. I had gastric bypass 4.5 months ago and am off all diabetes meds, almost off blood pressure meds, no longer have constant body pain, and am healthier and happier. Have a positive attitude going into this, pick your surgeon well, and it is more likely than not that you won't have major complications! Good luck to you! I’m still very early in my Gastric Bypass process. I was so excited, then I visited my friend today in the hospital. She just had gastric sleeve done July 5, she had a leak and was sent home anyway. A week or so later she started feeling very sick, running a fever and having shortness of breath. She was taken to the hospital where she found out she was in septic shock. 2 stents and 2 drains later and almost dying she is on tube feeds for the next 8-12 weeks but slowly recovering. Now I’m second guessing myself about my decision to have the gastric bypass surgery done. I’m not posting this to scare any other new comers, I’m just genuinely freaking out and looking for some advice. Any and all advise is much appreciated 😊

I’m 2 months out band to ds, down 37 pounds, they said it comes off slower after revisions but I’ll get there. I’ve had a couple nights with bile reflux but it’s controlled with meds (I didn’t take anything the nights it happened) and I’m told it goes away with time. No vomiting, I feel good, I can get in my protein and only regret not doing it sooner

My issues are gerd. I had the acid test and my levels were off the charts. I also lost 3 people in my family within the first year after surgery. I did not stick to pkan and I only lost half of my weight. I am hoping that the revision will help me to get the rest of my weight off as I will hopefully be able to stick to plan this time around. i take one s day bypass and sleeve optimized chewable plus chewable calcium citrate now that I like very much. I thought that bypass patients normally needed to take more vitamins than sleepers going by memory -
Gastric bypass or sleeve
johnedwin replied to laura071693's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
according to my research the bypass has far more issues then the sleeve like perforations due to ulcers dumping syndrome ..also the bypass has more risk of vitamin deficiency then with the sleeve. -

Well they should have stretched an opening instead of cutting all your muscles, but abused muscles and have a Way of Complaining when THEY FEEL Abused, so you get either pain or weird numb spots. Remember the definition of H.O.P.E.- Hold On Pain Ends- many,of us have walked that path with you- I was a Bypass but my Body was NOT THRILLED to be arranged and Let Me Know Also, see not only VSG have their trials- We All Do but We All Get Through and You Will,Too! -

And you don't have to go even the chewable route, I take prenatal vitamins, yeah a lot of strange looks at W-M when you're over 70, some people think I buy them for a grand-daughter so I'll have healthy great- grandbabies, the ones I am honest with ( and already think I'm a tad flakey in the First Place) I joke with about it all but they have high rates of everything I Need including some Iron, well I still need extra because Precious Pouch does not like animal proteins like meat, no problem , my Ferrocite is a teeny greenie once a day, take either citrus juice, diluted or a vi5am8n C with it. And my prenatals are a small caplet, not even as BIG as the ones I took when Verifiably preggo, and my dietician at OSU recommended them in the first place, Thank You Roy, couldn't hack chewables, couldn't chomp them with dentures, almost lost my love of applesauce when I put ground- up in it. My secret, small amount,of liquid, reopen gently mouth , toss things in and let them float down to Gut- Dom while I swallow. Ground up maybe a couple weeks , said "Flupp This" and taken whole pills since then except for Carafate which has to be dissolved into a slurry since my Cheapo Medicare Part D supplier SilverScripts(curse YOU!) won't pay a share of it for liquid, if I had to buy Carafate over the counter my ulcers would have perforated , BLED and I'd be Totally DeAD! And I have never in my 11.25 month bypass career ever dumped, truth is I vomit too quickly to ever be at Risk, Precious Pouch don't like,IT , it re- emerges QUICKLY, so fast it doesn't even smell at all, no real chance to digest. But that's how the mop flops and I do love a BMI of 28, 188 pounds and securely in Junior and Misses clothes after a lifetime of " Where are your LARGER Clothes displayed?"- Almost always in the back near the Restrooms- Now I am in the front with pretty shades, large selections, and No Shame Any Longer- And Frustr8 is "rocking" until I topple over and get hauled off on a gurney! -
Fight, fight, fight and fight

I was just watching a YouTube who had done a lot of research and she found a website where they fight for the revisions and surgeries to be approved after they are denied. They work and get you approved. Might be something to look into. The website is www.wlsappeals.com and it is called Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy. -
I like the Vega bars and Clif Builder bars. The No-Cow ones are tasting quite good as well. (food police, don't waste your time to b*tch about the macros, please) However, I rarely have an appetite for them since a whole while. I guess I ate too much of them in the first months after my revision. I always have some bars in my desk for 24 h shifts at work though.

They may request stronger or more frequent vitamin use but I take the same amount of vitamins as with VSG. There are plenty of one a day options sold in the BariatricPal store. Once my current vitamins are finished then I'm getting some that I sampled. I was serious about taking all of the vitamins back then because i was deficient in a few things before VSG so it became a routine. Vitamin time for me is vitamin time for everyone. I will need to have labs drawn to determine my current levels and adjust from there. I will report on it in about 3 weeks. I was my goal weight ~155lbs prior to revision. What issues are you having & what is the reason for your revision? -
Hi I have just had by Gastric Bypass 2 days ago, I was discharged from the hospital yesterday. I have noticed that I have a lot of pain in my legs mostly my thighs , I of course expected pain in my stomach but the leg pain is so bad that I feel like I can’t get out of bed. It feels much better when I walk which I am doing every 20 minutes or so, It does feel muscular and wondered if anyone else experienced this?

Gastric bypass or sleeve
Briswife15 replied to laura071693's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I chose bypass, and I'm very happy with that choice. Complications can happen with either surgery. I only wanted to do this once, and chose bypass because I thought it gave me, personally, the best shot at success. There are tons of very successful sleevers, though. Ultimately go with your gut! I will admit that a revision to bypass scares me. I am not so sure that I won’t end up backing out, i really haven’t had many issues with the Vsg and worry that a revision may be pushing my luck. -

This thread has been very helpful to me. Thank you for that. I go to see my surgeon this week for my pre op appt and will ask him then but, I am wondering. Do you have to take a lot more vitamins since the revision? When you say you are at 150, where were you pre revision? Just curious. -
Hi All!! I was a revision from Lapband to sleeve to Rny for severe GERD and I knew going in I would lose slower since I was a third timer. I’m satisfied with my loss. Started at 251 at pre-op and now am 208. My way of losing is so odd. I drop to an all new low and then within 1-2 days I’m up 4-5 lbs and then jump up and down in those 4-5 lbs and then stall and then after another time drop to a new low. Anyone go through this as well? Diet stays same, I think it must be hormones...?

TX2NC replied to Repeatingthoughts's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello All, I should be the 1st or 2nd week of September. My surgeon's office called me today to let me know that my insurance approved my revision from lapband to RNY. I go in next week for my "results visit," basically just going over pre and post op instructions and getting my official date. Incredibly, even in my excitement/relief, I managed to remember to ask my case manager how far out the surgeon is booked for surgery since he only operates twice a week. She said that they just booked the last two spots for August, so she would mention to the doc to hold me a spot for the 1st week of September. Fingers crossed for September 6th. Happy to be on the train with everyone. -
thanks @Frustr8 that's good you were able to have the bypass and that you are not wanting to go back to before surgery even with all you've gone through health wise since you had yours 🌸 ...... my surgery is planned as the sleeve so just hoping the chronic gastritis won't mean changing this
