  1. I'd be sick of the taste too. What kind of Protein shakes are you doing - the prepackaged ones? Have you yet tried the kind you make in your blender with diet milk, fruit, yogurt, and Protein powder? Those are super and taste more like real smoothies.
  2. Labrada Rock 'n Roll nutty peanut bars are good--and pack a good Protein punch (20 g/bar, I think; I can only eat half a bar at a time) Nuts are a good choice--low carb, though more of a fat than a protein I think you'll probably find it pretty easy to find "safe" Snacks on the go---I'd pack a pouch of PURE unflavored protein to stir into things like yogurt, which you can pick up in any concession place or corner store.
  3. I return to work next week going into my 6th week....here's my plan. I plan on taking a Starkist Tuna pouches, small bottle of mayo, homemade chili, boiled eggs, yogurt, protein shakes and/or protein bars, crystal light or something similar for my water, small container of fruit. I can't think of anything else at the moment.
  4. The only way I could see fish eing a mushy would be a really wet tuna salad. That had been worked up one side and down the other with a fork. Unless you're partial to pureed fish. Ack! Since the food caused you some discomfort, maybe try thick liquids nd soft mushies for a few days. Cream of X Soups, yogurt, tofu (esp. silken tofu), hummus, pudding, etc. This gives you more to work on than liquids, without having to go straight to mushies. I think I did 4 days of thick liquids before moving to things like mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, etc. You could have eaten too much, and you could have eaten too fast, and you could have eaten the food without chewing adequately, and... (on and on). Just remember to take it easy. When I hit mushies it was one small baby spoon bite every 5 minutes or so. I wanted to wait that long to make sure everything felt ok. Did your surgeon provide you with a graduated meal plan - what to eat for how long, and sample foods that fall into the classification?

What Do You Mix Unjury Into?

As I type, I am having tomato Soup with unjury powder in it. I have also mixed it into yogurt too. One thing I like in the morning is a cup of milk, a container of yogurt, and a scoop of Unjury blended together. It's a nice smoothie! I am only a week post-op so I am still only on liquids (nothing thicker than yogurt).
  6. That? That's the sound of my full signal. Except it isn't. I'm 6 days post op and although I do feel pressure sometimes, it's usually just because I'm gulping and not sipping on my Water. I've been staying hydrated; lots of fluids and I'm feeling good. However, tonight, I'm trying to add some yogurt into my diet (I'm allowed 2-4 Tbls. of it). I ate the whole container. Now, who could blame me? I've loved key lime all my life, and Greek yougurt was a new one for me, and it was so delicious, and....yeah. Gone. The package says it contains 6oz. of yogurt. By my calculations, that's about 3 times what I should have had. But the sleeve was ok with this. No foaming, no bubbling, not even a tiny little burp to let me know that capacity had been reached. And I ate it slowly, about 30-40 minutes. Right now, between my confusion and guilt of my transgression, I'm just going to concentrate on sticking to my diet. Meeting with the dietician tomorrow, probably will have to confess. But does this have ominous implications? Did my stomach really get smaller, or did they just harvest one of my kidneys? I guess I'll just have to see. I suppose I could have made a worse choice.

    Food stages

I had the gastric sleeve on 10/16. My doctor wants his patients to do 3 weeks liquids, 3 weeks soft food, then starting week 7 is normal food. I am 5 days from soft food stage. I however have been struggling to get my protein in because I can't do the protein shakes or powder. I have seriously tried every kind every which way and still have issues. I know some people get to start the soft foods at 2 weeks. If I started early with lunch meat, tuna, retried beans, would that be OK or would it be a big no no. My doc wants me to get 65 grams of protein and its hard to do when I can't do the protein shakes and powder. Right now I'm eating yogurt too try to get some in. The doc approved yogurt, pudding, cream soups on the full liquid diet. Any advice would be appreciated. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. I start my pre op diet next week. I can have 2-3 protein drinks per day, along with broth, sugar free pudding or jello and smooth nonfat Yogurt, as per my instructions.

    Banded 5/29/12 - Progression?

PS - I also have had some drinkable Organic Valley LF vanilla yogurt. My instructions say "any thin liquid you could drink with a straw, but don't use a straw - sit up to drink"
  10. It depends on the day for me. Some days I can eat little and don't care what it is. I fill up quickly. Other days I do feel some hunger. I started to pay attention on these days and have found that if I have not had any solid food I am more likely to be hungry. For instance, on day where I have cottage cheese for Breakfast and a greek yogurt for mid-morning snack, I will feel some hunger. If, on the other hand, I have a Protein bar for breakfast and deli meat or string cheese for a snack I won't be hungry and fill up quickly. It also depends on my activity level. If I do cardio and lift a little I will have some hunger because the metabolism is kicking in. Another thing I noticed is if I eat more than normal, ie have some snack at night, the next day I will be more likely to be hungry. I think it is my body going out of starvation mode because of the additional calories.

    Protein Powder

Try different powders. Some mix in better and taste great. I also mix in fruit or Greek yogurt with my protein shakes. Blend it well. Also, try unsweetened almond milk as the base liquid. It is a bit thicker and very low in calories and carbs!
  12. I don't avoid dairy at all. I eat cheese and 0% Greek yogurt almost daily. The same thing with fats and carbs. I eat healthy fats and complex carbs regularly. Your body needs these nutrients. I avoid fake, processed foods and sugars that are more challenging for your body to break down and use.. I do the exact same thing as @@WL WARRIOR. I only get weighed once a month, preferably at my f/u appointments. I hit my 4 month mark on the 18th but I'm going in this morning to get IVC filter removed so today will be my weigh in. I'm not sure what I will do next month since my next bariatric follow up won't be until I hit the 6 mth mark. I may go see my primary instead. My point is I don't allow myself to become married to the scale. I take my measurements and simply work really hard following my program and getting adequate exercise.

    Gnc Protein Powders

I get the cherries in the frozen fruit section. I think most stores should have them. I use about a teaspoon (if that) of cocoa powder and usually close to a tablespoon of splenda. That's probably too sweet for most people, but I'm a sugar person so it works out good for me. Just experiment. Oh, and the sugar free coffee syrups are really yummy with the vanilla protein. It doesn't take much, and you won't need splenda with those shakes. If I don't have frozen fruit in my smoothie I put ice in so it's like a ice cream/milkshake treat. Another idea is to add about 1/2 the protein powder you'd usually use to a yogurt. It's like pudding!
  14. I was banded 4-12-12 and I feel like I can eat anything. I really dont understand what I should be eating/drinking to stay on track. I have a hard time getting my water intake. I just cant get it in but prior to surgery I drank a gallon of water daily. My typical day is a protein shake for breakfast, for lunch cottage cheese and yogurt or soup and then my evening meal is a low sodium weight watcher or equivilent meal blended in the blender. I might have a snack of sugar free popcicle or sugar free pudding. I really feel I could eat solids. Any suggestions?

Do you make a shopping list?

The list is in my head. Sometimes if I am making something special I will write them down either in my phone's sticky note program or on paper, but most of the time I buy the same stuff every week. Yogurt, chicken breasts, fruits and veggies. coffee, milk, eggs. cheese. Maybe I'm kinda boring?
  16. I only go shopping when I'm low on staples (milk, eggs, protein bars, yogurt, 1/2 and 1/2, nuts, jerky). Once I'm there I get those things and then wander around, looking for what looks good or is on sale.

I do drink alot of sweetened ice tea- i appreciate you listening ansd appreciate any help or suggestions.
  18. Hey darling thank you!! Yeah the first few weeks are tough. All in all I have been pretty much just eating like sugar free pudding or jello or an egg here and there but even that goes down very tough. Low fat yogurts and soups. This really is a life changing experience without a doubt. I never imagined someone like me would struggle with eating 😂. I just want time to fly by so I can start a "normal" dietary regime and start going to the gym. But for now just soft puree protein foods and walking. I am stoked though because I have so far lost 16 pounds in 3 weeks! I have much more to go but its all just a work in progress 🤗🤗

    Feeling Horrible

Are you on Clear Liquids or full liquids? I'm post-op and still on full-liquids. I really wanted savory today. You can do Soups (or broth). I had some Thai Tom Yum Kha Soup broth for my dinner. For Breakfast and lunch I made a concoction of cream of wheat, plain Greek yogurt, and a pinch of dill and seasoned salt. It reminded me of Tzatziki sauce, and hit the spot. Feeling Horrible

Honestly, the liquid diet is agony. There is no way around it. I cheated 3 times, and I will not do it again. And on full meals, not just a little something to tide me over. We are addicts, and our bodies are purging carbs/sugars/caffeine and whatever else is in our diets. Headaches and lethargy seem to be par for the course. The first few days were the worst by far, and I found that after I ate real food I was back at square one. So, if you stick to the diet it will get better. I am begrudgingly on day 5, one week to go. I do miso broth for lunch, or get bone broths that I season with a little Worcestershire or spicy seasonings, lime, lemon, you name it. Anything to make it more bearable. You can also get unflavored Protein to add to soups if you prefer. I have no experience with them, but a lot of folks including my surgeon has recommended them. My diet does not include yogurt, cream of wheat, meat, veggies or any food other than Protein shakes and clear liquids. Blows. Its suckiness is unavoidable but YOU CAN DO IT. Just power through. Get your warrior swag on and swallow those shakes! If they are truly unbearable talk to your nut. I also use almond extract, cinnamon, and vanilla extract to make them more palletable. I even used pumpkin pie spice in a vanilla shake and it was pretty darn good. Also Thom Kha and Thom Yum thai soup broths are indeed mighty tasty - but steer clear of Tom Kha, it is made with coconut milk which is very high in fat/calories.

    Road Trip - Fun?

Love the grilled chicken salads at McD's. Eat the chicken off the top, get a low calorie dressing to use as a dip, then eat as much veggies as you have room for. At gas stations, beef jerkey, string cheese, and sugar free drinks are my friends. At the cheap Breakfast buffet, they may have instant oatmeal packets, yogurt, and fruit. Plus nonfat milk if you're not lactose intolerant (I am). I bring along RTD Protein drinks too. Have fun, play some silly car games like license plate counting, sing along to dorky songs, and have a great time. Before you eat crap, think about if you really want it. Sometimes I picture the food in a store, lots of it, then all the stores in my town, my state, US, the world. Then I remember there is plenty of it for later. I can't possibly eat it all and I don't have to eat it now. Weird I know, but it works for me. Lynda
  24. Hi InterceptorNYC---initial first days (2-5) post-op my surgeon wanted me to focus on water and then protein. Post-op day 4 his nurse called to check in. I told her I was getting my 64 oz of water in--but not much more than 40 protein. She said to focus on water and if I could get 40 protein and advance it through the next few days not to worry. Keep in mind this is my Doc recommendation....others might be different. I was also taught that protein is a dehydrator like etoh. I wasn't aware of this! Thus the need for water. When Dr. was teaching me pre-op he used the empire state building as an analogy. The antennas at the top are the most important=water, next is the initial tower=protein, next is viewer landing=fiber, (benefiber etc) everything below i.e.: applesauce, yogurt etc etc ="sewer food". lol! It's been a great analogy for me to focus on. Post-op in the hospital I had a bottle of Isopure clear protein drink, it was grape flavored, zero carb. Comes in a clear 20 oz bottle and 40 gm protein. It was something different to mix it up a bit instead of shake after shake. I've also like the powdered Unjury with Fairlife milk. Not too sweet. Sorry to be so long winded! Just sharing whats worked/trial and error. See my surgeon this coming Tuesday and get to move forward in diet.

    confued about pre op diet

I would stick to your protein drinks until you know for sure. My plan includes veggies, oatmeal, applesauce, yogurt, jello and pudding. Also to have 4 protein drinks, 2 with milk and 2 with another liquid.
