    Revision of RNY

My revision is scheduled for 9/12. Not only do I have gerd, I only lost 1/2 my excess weight with the sleeve. So I am really looking forward to a 2nd chance at getting the rest of the weight off.
  2. Hello all, Good luck on your surgeries. I am post-op almost 3 mo from a revision surgery from RNY to DS. I'm in San Jose. I look forward to read about all your success.
  3. Yeah I do value honesty, even if it is not happy news, be straight with me, don't make me feel it is not all my fault- GOD in Heaven knows I have tried- I wanted to become a Model Patient- somebody that people could point out and say " She's such a success, I feel inspired to now carry on MYSELF!" and perhaps there is someone somewhere that feels THAT WAY , I'm not aware of any. And one of the definitions of model is "An imitation of the real thing". Oh I will Survive. this, I have vanquished many other things in my lifetime. Today I have hunger/ pain, I eat something, never very much because if I try to increase my portion size it hurts until Precious Pouch reflexes up emesis. So i take in a Small amount, never enough to feel good, maybe I will never have such a feeling again, and then 1-1.5 hours the hunger type pain has returned, I give it protein shake or Greek yogurt, if other fluids fail to satisfy, really don't desire mentally anything, nothing sounds good, few things taste good, restraint I expected but revulsion? Nope never booked that in! And those who do comment say "My oh My You look good! " Makes a body wonder - was I THAT disgusting before? And my neck , face and upper chest look so bony and thin- I fear I Am suffering from "Failure To Thrive" and nobody cares enough to notice. Maybe I truly merely look thin never been there before so no standard of comparison. And the people who were blind to me before are too deaf to really listen. to what I am trying to say. I would stop taking my meds, vitamins and minerals, but they May Just be keeping me going, let alone prolonging my life. If that Shannon thought I was depressed in May 2019, she should seen me the spring before, when Surgeon# 1 kicked me to the curb, told his staff to tell me I was mentally and emotionally deficient and totally unworthy of surgery, now THAT WAS DEPRESSION time for ME, but even then , I was not actively plotting suicide, what would have been the use? I was believing I was such a screw-up I couldn't even get THAT right. I just wanted to die passively, would not lift a hand to do ANYTHING. And it took so so much to even attempt to continue seeking my surgery, I was very fortunate to find Ohio State and Dr Needleman and that they not only gave me a chance, they seemed to believe in Me so I once again could believe in Me. That may be why this indifference and ignoring of Me hurts me so much. I. thought They always were There for Me. But I will surmount what I cannot CHANGE, internally my body will not function as it once did, BMs every day, being able to swallow and have food stay DOWN. Yeah, I did have a high calorie count, Might have even binged but I could eat, taste and know I was ALIVE, now the Brand- New ME was worth the pain , poor inefficent healing and sorrows, did I PAY TOO MUCH just to be thin? I gained the World only to lose a lot of my Me-ness , although in theory , a bypass can be reversed, I won't seek it. 1) I do not want to regain back again. and more importantly I still would feel flawed internally. I gotta go forward because backward isn't an option EITHER. And yes, having put this all down has given me some shred of peace- so I will continue on and my end will be victorious SOMEHOW. PROMISE!!!!

    Revision of RNY

Have you had your revision yet? I'm thinking about doing it so would like to know how you're doing. Thanks
  5. So we went out last night buying some shakes before they went off sale today. The woman working the register asked about the 8 packs of shakes, and of course had a story. Her "sister" who had bypass in the 80s, and had so many problems she couldn't even drink water. So, the solution, was they gave her a lap band? What are some of the craziest stories you have heard from people? Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Rny revision

I also had mine around 2002 and am planning on a revision to reduce my pouch and tighten my stoma. I was around 350, lost 140 and have gained it back. My bypass is already distal. What exactly are they going to do duringyour surgery? Thank you

    Pain

Hey guys, I’m 4 weeks post op for gastric bypass and everything I eat gives me the worst stomach pains. I’m doing my mushy foods, i was thinking of seeing my doctor soon but I just wanted to know if this is normal for any else? I know I’m going to be told it’s still quite soon but it’s at a point where the idea of eating is just putting me off if it’s going to cause pain. I do eat slowly and I stop when I am full. I’ve been feeling quite nauseous but not as often.
  8. Hi everyone, I’m new here. My journey began July 25th 2011. I went in to have a sleeve at 250lbs. 7 months later I left the hospital for good with a gastric bypass. From my original surgery my stomach swelled shut, and started growing together. I had to have a peg tube inserted to get nutrients. I had multiple infections, a pulmonary embolism. Finally the surgeons decided a gastric bypass was what would correct my body. Finally had the gastric bypass, and went home feeling so much better. I went home eating solid foods already. About 2 months later I had a bowel rupture, and after more infections and 2 more surgeries, one removing my gallbladder, I was finally released from the hospital for the last time. I got down to an unhealthy 130, my BMI was now to low. So I started on the mission of trying to gain weight. Well that got out of control and got up to 190. By that time I could no longer see my surgeon because my husband was no longer in the Army, and you can’t see a military doctor on civilian insurance. About 4 years ago I started having either severe constipation or severe diarrhea. I started seeing a gastroenterologist, who didn’t understand my surgeries, and just told me to deal with it. I had to have an iron infusion, once again dealing with another doctor that didn’t understand my body post RNY. About 6 months ago I decided enough was enough and wanted to be healthy again, my original goal in all this. It was time for control back in my life. I started eating correctly again, and am now down to a healthy 147. I decided to finally go see a bariatric surgeon to get my life back on track. While searching for a good one to go see (I live in a rural area, and knew traveling was the only answer) I found out my original surgeon now runs a bariatric clinic in Albuquerque about 5 hours from me. I called to see if I could see him. Not even an hour after I made that call his nurse called me back saying her remembered me and my case well and wanted to see me. I saw him 2 weeks ago. He put me back on a good bariatric multi vitamin, the correct iron my body will absorb, and psyllium husk, because he knew exactly what was causing my constipation issues. It’s been a long road, and I’m back feeling healthy and happy again. I’ve been needing to get back to people of my own, and know now I need the support of those who understand this journey and become active in these groups again. Sorry for the long post. It’s been a long road.
  9. RNY 2ND RODEO

    Revision of RNY

I had rny gastric bypass in 2001. Went from 516 to 175. Then I started gaining again. Old habits are hard to break. Cokes and pizza. Now Im scheduled for revision on 8/23/19. I feel so ashamed. Back to 400 lbs. This time I need to follow the rules instead of finding ways around them. Sent from my LGMP260 using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. All set for 8/23/19. This is my 2nd rny gastric bypass. First one was 17 years ago. Then I was 516 lbs, lost down to 175, bounced back to 400. This is my last rodeo. Gotta make it happen. Got 9 grandkids that love their Papaw. Sent from my LGMP260 using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. So I agree, we all go through this to one extent or another. The shame and stigma attached to WLS and obesity is really so sad. It's diagnosed by the AMA as a disease. That means doctors are allowed to treat us for this disease and insurance has to cover it, if it's listed as a covered feature of their plans. Obesity like many diseases is multi-factoral. Do we have some amount of culpability? Absolutely. But at the core, there is some element of broken-ness within that then takes our body out of homeostasis and hormonally sets us up for heartache down the road. Most of us are champion losers. But most of us are hideous maintainers. Sure there is ricidivism (reverting to old ways and patterns with eating/food), but our body also has a desire to take us back up and level us off at our last HIGHEST weight level. Yikes! Hello regain? Yes. WLS helps break this cycle. It is a metabolic reset. It is actually (or can be) more of a weight maintenance tool than it is a weight loss tool. But like with any tool, it is up to us to use the tool correctly. Don't use a screw driver to hammer in a nail. And just like with any disease, take heart disease...do you blame the patient for needing a heart bypass or stint if lifestyle changes and medicine doesn't work to reverse their CHD? No...we don't. Then it's unfair for MO people to be blamed for needing a surgical intervention to help normalize a substantially broken metabolism. This is what finally gave me peace about my surgery. I also have PCOS since I was 13-14y. My highest weight was 325lbs. My recent high was 287lbs. I weigh 134lbs this morning. I'm 56y. I'm not any great shakes. But I am determined and focused and have chosen to put my love/adoration of food to the side in favor of kicking ass and taking names in the healthy living department. I just "ran" 65minutes straight this morning. When I first started I was chair/bed bound and couldn't stand or walk for more than 5 minutes. You can do this. But you do have to want to change and you have to apply yourself. My RD said that PCOS makes it harder and wl slower for patients. It's partly why I did the RNY over the VSG.
  12. I remember on the morning of my surgery saying to my partner "Do you think I can just lose the weight and keep it off on my own and not do the surgery?" That was obviously nerves talking, but his answer made perfect sense. He said, "If you could, you would have by now". Bariatric surgery is NOT a failure. It's still hard work after surgery to lose and maintain for the rest of your life. It's about using a tool to make the best choices for your health. You'll still have to eat properly and exercise, but WLS is the tool that will help you to learn how to change not only your weight, but your mindset. Since my bypass 11 months ago I have become intolerant of a good few foods - not a bad thing when they include sugary foods, fatty foods and absolutely intolerant of anything chocolate. It's not easy but it's your health you need to consider.
  13. Hello everyone, I had surgery on 7/16 and was fine up until week 3.5 to week 4. I wasn’t able to get my water in or food down without throwing up. So I called my surgeons office and went it. Where my lapband was had become extremely tight and was not allowing anything to go through. So I was scheduled to go in the next morning which was last Thursday to have an EGD with a ballon stretch in the area where the issue was. I now can eat about 6oz of food before I feel satiety. I am worried it was over stretched. I am not losing any weight. I am very concerned I am eating to much. It is low fat and low carb meals and of course protein first. I am still adhering to the no drinking with meals and waiting to eat 30 minutes after drinking and waiting to drink 30 minutes after eating. I am just looking for input and opinions on what I should do.
  14. I had my gastric bypass surgery this past May 16th and have a question about eating soup. So we're not supposed to drink any liquids 30 minutes before a meal or 30 minutes after our meal, or during our meals. So what do we do when eating soup? I had chicken vegetable soup for dinner tonight and was just wondering what is the correct protocol, we are supposed to eat soup? Eat the solids and broth separately 30 minutes after consuming one or the other? I didn't do this, of course, I just ate the soup the way I have been for the past 50 years with no problems at all. I was just curious about what the "correct" way is for us WLS patients.
  15. Great thread with useful info. Would you mind sharing the details of foods you can / cannot eat; Which vitamins you take/ the amount taken daily; and finally details of frequency of the bowel movements/ gas / at what point it has normalized or if it has. I’m looking at a sleeve to sips revision and trying to collect as much info as possible ahead of the surgery. Thanks!
  16. I was six days out from a RNY revision surgery, a few weeks ago. I did so well preparing for the surgery that I decided to postpone it. The procedure I was going to have is one where the Roux arm is lengthened and the stoma reduced in size. The modification of the bypass has a 15% chance of complications. My surgeon was confident in his ability because he has only 1% complications with this procedure. If they are just working on your pouch and stoma I would not worry. That is low risk. I am losing weight again, slowly. I have learned so, so much from this forum. I have been reading the books and watching videos that are helping me understand why I am hungry. It was 2000 when I had my bypass. There is so much more information and tools available now. I am relearning how to eat properly and how important vitamins are. I will wait six months before I decide if I need the revision surgery. My suggestion is, study up and copy what the new RNY patients are doing. I feel I am a born again bypass patient. Best of luck!
  17. I'm almost 5 months post gastric bypass and I ate 4 strawberries with 1/4 cup blueberries 2 and a half hours ago and I feel so not good! My stomach feels full, I tried throwing up but there's nothing in there. I feel sick and not really nauseous but like I need to throw up. What's going on? help! Veterans I need you.
  18. I had a distal Roux en Y gastric bypass around 2002. I had lost about 140 pounds but have gained most of it back. Has anyone had their Roux en Y pouch reduced and stoma tightened? The doc has already approved me for surgery. I'm wondering if anyone has had this done. Thank you!! 😊

    Nervous about revision

just wondering - do you have to make this decision soon? You could always sit on it for a few months if you need the time. You can stay on PPI's in the mean time. It sounds like you're not ready to take the plunge and have revision surgery, so maybe it'd be better to wait awhile until you're more confident of your decision (??)

    ⭐Review of Revisions to RNY

*I'M NOT A SURGEON* But it appears the sleeve was separated into 2 sections (1 connected to the esophagus/ 1 connected to the duodenum) but also then the Surgeon decided to resect more of the sleeve (connected to the esophagus) to get the proper shape and size for the revision. This person may have had a longer stomach than usually, or this may be common practice. I sure wish sometimes that we had a resident surgeon on the site to ask questions...
  21. I had mine August 8 and yogurt is on week three of the gastric sleeve but if you had the gastric bypass it is on week 2.

    Nervous about revision

I'm sorry for all you have been going through. I also have a sliding haital hernia, by the way. Makes it possible to eat well some days and some other days, I can't get anything down. Since you had a hernia before the sleeve and it is back now, if repaired again without converting to the bypass, according to my surgery, the hernia will likely return in 3-5 years, unless your diaphragm is supported with a mesh filter. Making the decision to have any WLS is difficult enough, let alone having to decide on a revision. It really comes down to quality of life, from what I've experienced and heard in support group for months now. If you feel you can manage your reflux well enough with medication, then maybe surgery is not worth the risk but acid reflux could lead to other things down the line... In my case, there is a plethora of reasons for revision, so that in a way, has made it easier to decide (scheduled for 9/9/19). Also, regarding your main concern (dumping), I actually have that now with the sleeve (maybe 3-4 times a month). It happens when I make poor choices (high sugar or high fat). Yes, it's more likely to happen with the bypass, but I think managing our intake regardless of surgery type is key to preventing uncomfortable dumping situations. I'll have surgery just 10 days before you, so if you'd like, let's keep in touch and I'll let you know how it goes! I am most likely to have an open surgery (surgeon will try laparoscopic first) due to an obstruction in my sleeve, ulcers, and scar tissue buildup being 7+ years out, so my recovery may be a bit different/lengthy.
