Is There A List Of "allowable" Alcohol Here? What Have You Sipped On?
mnbsleeve replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've had wine and champagne. Just some sips, not the whole glass. Also, I was at least 4 1/2, maybe 5 months out. I've only done it a few times on special occations. Oh, last weekend I had a chocolate martini! ... well, about three sips of one! But it was good! It was at a comedy club! I don't really want the emply calories and I've never been much of a drinker so If it turned out I could not have any alcohol at all, I would be fine with it. As long as I get my sleeve!!! :-) -
I Was All Ready To Go...now Scared And Confused.
DanityChai posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I need some advice and to vent a little. I am scheduled with Dr. Aceves for sleeve revision on May 10th. I have researched the hell out of him and have found nothing bad at all. Part of the prerequisite was for me to get my band unfilled. This past weekend I had my appointment with my American bariatric surgeon (who did not place my lap-band) and he unfilled me. He asked why I was getting unfilled and I told him I was having revision in Mexico with Dr. Aceves. He then proceeded to scare the **** out of me by telling me stories of patients he has known of who have had leaks months afterward from getting surgery in Mexico and/or dying on the OR table. He said getting a virgin sleeve or lap-band is fine in Mexico but begged and pleaded with me not to get a revision. He said that it is incredibly risky and dangerous and that I will be screwed if something happens to me once I get home. I talked to him about it more and he said that since the doc is not looking at my lap band beforehand that ought to give me a clue that I am not in good hands. He said they will just work around any complications and that could make it worse. He also said he could do my revision (here in the US) for the same price as Dr. Aceves is charging me. I completely agreed to all of this and have been talking to his office and scheduler. It has been three days and I am still waiting to hear from them on what hospital he will perform the surgery at and exactly how much. It will be one of three hospitals in the LA area. Anyhow, I am not sure what to do. I am pretty sure Dr. Aceves has more experience with revisions than my doc does but the thought of staying in the US for the same price is tempting as well. I know Dr. Aceves is a truly capable and fantastic doctor. I have read a lot of reviews on my US doc and he is very good as well. I don't think he has the experience that Aceves does though but on the flip side I could stay in the US. HELP!!! ADVICE PLEASE!!! So scared and confused now. -
Hi HD, my date is November 30th too. I guess this is my official de-lurking post I've been working through this process since April of 2010 -- medical, dietician, psych & more medical visits & evals, a 12-week healthy eating class, and finally approved by insurance. Can't believe it's finally a go. I was afraid of the surgery ending up right around the holidays and lo and behold that's exactly what happened... but I guess that's how it's meant to be. I'm feeling all the same feelings that you are! UX

Pre-surgery timeline for cash pay patients in US
aree1020 replied to MarieLouise's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a consultation 2 weeks ago and then I signed up for the soonest opening which will be July 7th. I do the pre op stuff the day before surgery. No psych evaluation or GI scans. I also go to a nutrition class during my pre op. If they don't have to mess with insurance it's as fast as you want it to be! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Congrats! I'm just now at 30 and I'm a few weeks ahead of you! Good job!

Just wondering if ok to take small liqui gel pills during this phase. I am 6 days post op and wanted to take Dulcoax stool softener. I have had one very small bowel movement since the Saturday before my surgery this past Monday.

Tiffykins replied to Catyroses's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Totally normal, and it only gets better. I have a really hard time lounging on the weekends now. I just want to go go go, and the husband is not happy about it since he's a homebody, and works all week. -

I'm new to this site, however, I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op and I'm going crazy. Can anyone give me ideas on meals once I start puree. Also during the puree stage is it safe to eat egg salad, tuna, oatmeal, or grits. I am open for any suggestions -
I'm so glad to hear from you and hear how you are doing. Wow, just noticed how much weight you have lost . . . good for you! Congrats on that!! Sorry to hear about your side, maybe it's part of the healing process. Things are going good for me. Excited to start the puree stage, which should be next week.

Extreme body and mood changes !
nicole_b20 replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 2 weeks and 3 days post op and I am extremely irritable, especially in the mornings. I am also hypersensitive to what people say and im freezing all the time, which is not like me at all! hoping once my body gets used to this huge change, everything will kind of go back to normal. -
It's the infamous Week 3/Week 4 stall that everyone gets. Your body is adjusting from surgery to liquids to soft mushy foods. Everybody gets it. No worries, the scale will start moving again in no time.

It took me forever, but I'm due to be banded in about 3 weeks. No matter what I believe it's worth it. Hang in there and keep going. I get more and more excited everyday, escpecially with the support and help from this site.

Post Op Day 3 And Having A Hard Time Getting Fluids In! Help!
IowaAndy replied to Natesmate's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Natemate......first off congratulations on your surgery and the start of your new life. I had the same problem the first week or so. I know that I was not getting enough fluids but I just kept sipping and sipping. If you are sitting around time yourself on your watch or clock and take a drink every 5 minutes or whatever you think that your new stomach can handle. I know that you are busy doing other things and time goes by so very fast when not paying attention. Soon you will be getting all of your fluids. I remember the day after surgery when they brought me in ice chips, some juice etc. I think I maybe got through half of the ice chips in the small glass and the rest of the juice etc went down the drain as I never got to them. Day at a time.....steady ahead and you will be on the road to success.... -
Well, I've read articles debunking the myth that humans need loads of water to drink every day, that people get enough through the course of having bevvies here and there (including tea and coffee) AND through the food they eat. Seriously, the human body does extract enough moisture from all foods, not just obvious ones like lettuce and watermelon, to get the liquid it needs, GENERALLY SPEAKING. My Nut said that the primary reason WLS patients need more water than normal-stomached people is because they are not getting enough liquids via their food. That said, it takes drinking much less than the magical 64 oz a day for most people to become actually dehydrated and it's easier to get dehydrated quickly just after surgery. After you're into normal foods and are drinking bevvies here and there, you're probably getting enough liquids to be fine. If you are not dehydrated and don't feel you need more water, then don't fuss with it. I drink way more at work (insert vodka joke here) than I do at the weekends, so I am making up a deficit during the week. And I do try for 1.5-2 liters per day, but I'm not too fussed. LOL. Some people will make claims about how it flushes toxins out of your system, etc. But I don't buy that one too much -- the thing that flushes toxins out of your body is your lymphatic system. It obviously needs fluids to do so. But no matter how much you drink, it will only use what it needs...which it's getting as long as you're drinking enough to not be dehydrated. Hmm, not sure I'm making any sense at this point...

The water thing is a super goal to pursue! I do drink loads of water every day, at least two liters. But I can't drink it plain, it just won't go down well, so I add Mio or Crystal Lite or any kind of SF flavouring to it, always. And a bit more diluted than it calls for, as it is sometimes too sweet. But yeah, drink a ton of water, it is great for you and it keeps your tummy full as well. I have been on full food (except raw fruit and veg) from four days post-op, they do things a bit differently at my clinic. So I've been eating food all along. AND I never lost my hunger at all. For me that is a very good thing. It makes it like pre-op: I get hungry, I eat till I'm full, I stop. And my plan calls for three meals and three Snacks per day, so that makes it easy to get protein in every few hours, since I've never used Protein shakes and had to get all my protein from food. The other thing I do is really keep my diet quite varied. It would be easy to get in a real rut with this surgery and always eat X for Breakfast, Y for lunch and Z for dinner. But I eat all sorts of different things, so my stomach doesn't make the decisions for me (if that makes sense). There are very few things I can't eat well (aside from things I already didn't like pre-op LOL). But as far as advice, my three favorite are: drink more (you're already on this one), cut out white carbs (bread, Pasta, garlic bread lol, etc.) and keep your meals/snacks to planned times and contents. ETA two more haha: Don't drink calories (ie, sodas or drinks with sugar/calories in) and always track everything you eat -- I use myfitnesspal for this. Keeps you well-informed about what you're eating, where your calories are coming from, etc. Good luck, you can do this!!

Hi. My name is Selene and I had my surgery on Jan 16, 2013. I have lost 30 lbs so far but it has been like a week that I have not lost anything else. I am a bit concerned. Do you think that is normal. I am in the puree stage for one more week and then I'm off to starting to eat. I have no idea where to begin. Any suggestions are welcomed.

illgeturhairdid replied to Efamcan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums

Anyone Had A Thyroid Ultrasound? What Happens During An Endoscopy?
JennJ.RN replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's just what it's called.. totally outpatient. the adult is so they can drive you home and sign your discharge stuff.. (legal documents). I wouldn't think they'd do it on Saturdays but it is always a possibility. I would call the office tomorrow that is supposed to be doing it to find out. Our office mgr calls the patients in the week before to tell them all the "requirements" of egd day. Don't stress.. Maybe there is a friend that can help you out for a few hours? -
Long Time No See, What I'm Up To These Days, Or Down To As The Case May Be =)
Globetrotter posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey everybody, Globetrotter here, long time no post! As some of you may recall, I returned from deployment one year ago this month. Life has been a whirlwind of adjustment ever since and I have become a stranger on our forum. In the year that I have been home I have lost "only" 40 lbs, bringing my post-op weight loss to 130 lbs. I am 18 months out from surgery and am still not at goal, which is just so frustrating and demoralizing. I am 15 lbs away from surgeon's goal and 40 lbs away from personal goal. Anyone who remembers me here knows that I have been a slooow loser from day one, always fretting over it, but now it really has slowed to about one or two pounds a month. In the last 7 months I have lost only 15 lbs. I exercise at least 4 days a week, for several hours at a time. A typical day of exercise for me includes a TRX class, followed by a yoga class, followed by 2 hours of tango. I still eat a lot of Protein but I will admit - I eat s*** now. I have allowed myself to eat french fries, chocolate cake, alcohol, whipped cream, bread, etc. I am incredibly lucky that, a year and a half out, I still do not have real hunger, but my tastebuds rule. I have fallen off the path my brothers and sisters, and I know that falling away from the Forum has NOT helped. I've got to get to goal folks, I've got to. I am 5'3" and 164 lbs, I am still fat. Yes, I am active, yes I look 100x better than when I started, but my chub still prevents me from running that mile, from achieving that yoga pose, from enjoying those killer stillettos longer than an hour. I plea for your help in returning me to the fold and helping me across that finish line. I didn't know if there is a place in the forum now for long term sleevers, a place to discuss the changes in metabolism, the challenges of acheiving goal after the first year when you've beena slow loser, all that. I look forward to hearing from you. =) Globetrotter -
I hated the liquid diet and I was on it for 2 weeks prior to surgery. I just had to keep telling myself that it was a means to an end. I kept myself busy and that helped keep my mind off things. Plus, I was always drinking something....if it wasn't the medifast stuff, it was water or tea or SOMETHING! At some point the hunger did go away. Hang in there and be strong.

Husband Had The Surgery Now Im Having Issues
rrj1811 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We have been married a little over a yr and on Jan. 31 2012 he had his sleeve done. I'm trying to be supportive but it's becoming harder as the weeks pass. At first I was going to the gym with him but now he goes late at night (9:30-10ish) when I'm exhausted from the day. I have in and let him take over the grocery shopping and cooking so that he can be sure to get what he needs and I don't mess him up. So far our biggest challenge has been the dinning out. I'm not big on going out since I feel that I'm never home with work and college both full time, but he does not work and feels that he is treating me by going out. I have explained that I would rather stay home so he gets what he needs and I get to relax but this just starts arguing over how he is trying to keep our lives normal and I am " babying" him. The reality is, and I've told him this, is that is awkward to be at a table shoving food in while he is across from me with just a glass of water. He feels that his new lifestyle shouldn't effect me and that I'm being vain. Does anyone have any advice as how to explain to him that his new life is my new life too? -
Lots Of Surgeries Scheduled For Week Of April 1
Vsglass replied to atkinsoncl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know if this link will work or if this is the place to post it but thought, as my fellow "April Sleever Buddies" and I are on the cusp of major changes, I would show you a documentary that was shown here in Scotland a couple of weeks ago that I found interesting and encouraging. It is about a surgeon who investigates what makes some people fat and she starts from her personal view that we should eat-less-and-move-more and by the end her views have changed about what makes some people overweight and how they can be helped. It deals with Gastric By-Pass but the principles hold true for us "Sleevers" too I think. Interesting, particularly the sections on hunger hormones and stress. I found it encouraging, I hope you do too... www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01dzfgb (If you can't get this link it might be on Youtube. It's a called Horizon: The Truth about Fat) -

Is There A List Of "allowable" Alcohol Here? What Have You Sipped On?
Kiki Von Moonshine replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Okay thanks. I know a alot about liquor (well at least my favorite ones) including the caloric content. I was a gym rat a few years ago and I googled all of my favorite drinks for the alcohol content. Can't remember the exact numbers but it was like 1000 cals for one of my favorite drinks depending on the size. I'm not a big drinker, just was interested on how it affects some, and if there was a "list' on here. I was watching someones youtube, and she still felt the liquor the next day, but she was drinking at 4 weeks out so I'm sure it would be different later. I guess there's only one way to find out.
