    Stopping Omeprazole-

I was told after my 3 months to use as needed. I eventually didn’t need it, only very occasional like after I had something that was too acidic. But everyone is different. Your doc will probably put you back on it if youre still having symptoms. If you had GERD before surgery and got a sleeve, sometimes symptoms will get worse. That’s why doctors usually have patients with GERD do the bypass. Hope things get better for you. I’m sure it will.
  2. HI I had a weight regain and I have seen doctors with all kinds of suggestions for revision surgery. Has anyone heard of RNY to Single anastomosis duodenal switch. Or had this? I know revision after gastric bypass is unusual. Just looking for information.

    I can’t date overweight people

And the fact that people can't just snap their fingers to lose their weight DOES NOT MEAN that they are trying. I can testify,i tried every diet out there including some I believe my doctors imagined out of spite. Ate much less food, exercised, had deleted junk foods and sodas already, starved myself I cried myself to sleep at night, malnourished so bady that it was a wonder I didn't die of the imbalances instead of Frank OBESITY. Meanwhile my naturally thin and better BMI cousins are eating like Longshoremen who didn't know if there would EVER be Another Food Shipment! Took Bypass surgery to help reset me and my BMR. And now I look pretty fine for My Age but naked, you can see the ravages Obesity did upon MY BODY. And I did ask my doctors if Plastic Surgery could be in my Future. The response was trifold--- 1. Am I really That Vain? 2. I am Too Old (73) 3. No Surgeon in or approaching His Right Mind who lift a finger to help ME because I AM AN IRON-CLAD SURGICAL RISK! But Never say I was obese from lack of Dietary Commitment or Compliance--- I LIVED IT AND I KNOW BETTER, So Help Me GOD!

I am scared to get GERD, please give me advice

Prior to my VSG 2 years ago, my acid reflux was minimal, not everyday. I had experienced reflux when I gained weight. I was a yo-yo dieter for years getting low as 130lb to high of 310. At my pre op testing for surgery, my surgeon says I have mild gerd. He had recommended gastric bypass. I didn't want bypass and told him if I lose the weight the reflux should go away like it has done in previous years. I was reflux free for 1 1/2 years post VSG. By then, i was 100 pounds lighter. By Dec of last year, I started having reflux here and there but not everyday. The ppi medicine was working but fast forward to this year. I was still experiencing mild acid in my esophagus after eating even with taking a ppi using with nutrition dense foods. My surgeon again recommended gastric bypass to get rid of the acid reflux or stay on ppi forever. I was leaning towards staying on ppi medication and losing more weight. However, I am still reading those with gerd/VSG and have reached a healthy BMI under 25 still experienced gerd. I will be moving forward with revision surgery from VSG to Gastric Bypass on the 19th of Sept.
  6. I’ve seen this used. I seem to be right where I should be. Everyone is different, every surgery is different but as a rough guide it might help. What surgery did you have? The Get~2~Goal app is research driven and tracks your progress compared to thousands of others but its meant for Gastric Bypass.
  7. I am 7 month post bypass and have been at GW for several weeks. Was feeling great and on top of the world. I have exercised since day one and felt good/strong enough to be challenged by ladies triathlon in a month. (1/4 mile swim, 14 mile bike, 3 mile walk/run.) So I have started training. The power walk is not an issue - I walk that far every day anyway, but I have been working on speeding it up. I started swimming this week, and it is HARD after not having swum in quite a while, but I am doing it. My bike comes next week and I will add that in. My problem is that doing the walk and swim every day has wiped me out. I feel calorie depleted, but cannot eat more than 800- 1,000 max per day.I am keeping up with hydration just fine - that is not a problem. I normally fast in the mornings, but I see I cannot do this and exercise hard in the mornings as well. My tummy is not liking anything fatty anymore. Cheese, meat, peanut butter, nuts, etc are making me feel sick. All that feels good is tea, protein shakes, yogurt, cooked squash. I am maintaining my weight (not losing any pounds, which is fine), but I feel like I am getting thinner. How can I maintain a training schedule and compete in this event, and eat what I need in order to do this? Anyone out there who is really upping their exercise and still feeling good? How are you doing it? What are you eating before, during, and after events???? I need some help here. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak right now. I am feeling a bit down and discouraged.
  8. A couple of things. 1st check your policy. If what you are waiting on is an approval for the revision, most insurance companies stipulate a time frame. Generally about 14 days. One thing to remember is that they work on a business day schedule not a calendar day. So it’s about a 3 week time span. 2nd If you’ve already been submitted, it was denied and an appeal has been submitted, there should still be documentation in the policy regarding the maximum amount of time they have to let you know of their decision. 3rd. It may take a phone call to get all of the information from your insurance company. My revision was listed as a covered procedure, but it wasn’t plainly listed in my policy. I had to call and get them to email it to me. Best of luck!
  9. I had RNY Gastric Bypass on the 19th of Aug. I keep getting the hiccups, Fri it was almost every hour, Sat I'd get a couple hour break then get them twice in an hour and on and on. I get them even when I haven't eaten and even in the middle of the night so I know they are not from eating too fast. Getting them so often is placing limits on what I can eat because of the air I inevitably swallow making me feel like I am stuffed to the max. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Any tips on how to avoid them? It is driving me insane.

    Oops, ate too much

Absolutely gross aversion therapy, best kind I guess?! Funny thing is I thought perhaps I had no pouch at all because I hadn't had any issues lol AND not really sure of my anatomy now due to having a sleeve first which went 'wrong' then an emergency bypass a few days later. My surgeon only leaves a 1cm wide sleeve which is pretty minuscule, so I was like erm how on earth did he make a pouch with what was left? Well, I now know there is definitely some kind of pouchiness going on after meatball-gate LOL I spent yesterday pretty uncomfortable all day so not sure if I aggravated my 'pouch' and made it swell a bit from the vomiting, but nothing went down easily yesterday, even fluids weren't great and had pain all day. So Just had an early night and slept it off
  11. Pretty sure the only revisions from sleeve are either RNY or DS @Dr-Patient
  12. Did you suffer from GERD as well? Was that part of your revision decision? Hope to hear you are doing well...
  13. Why do u need a revision?
  14. I'm at the start over part of this revision process. My first appointment with a new doctor will be on Monday. I was told that it will last 2 hours. The clinic also told me to be "open." I know what is needed for my health. I have one of the top doctors (that is what I am told). I feel happy and scared. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. I've done all my requirements for the bypass revision, due to hiatal hernia and problems with reflux my dr. says I need to get revised from the sleeve to bypass. Anyone else having trouble with insurance company getting this approved.? I'm really suffering over here and they just tell me my appeal is pending. Anyone know how I can push this forward? Help! 16. I know everyone is different, but I had very little pain with my RNY (I'm not a revision, though). I thought plastic surgery was MUCH more painful.

    September 2019 🍂🍁

Hi all! I’m scheduled for a gastric bypass on 19 September! Both excited and terrified! But all positive vibes :)
  18. I had the sleeve surgery in 2015 i lost about 70lbs, then my Gerd came back with a vengence plus i had a hiatal hernia. I gained all my weight back and i decided to give it another try and revise my sleeve to gastric bypass. I'm so glad i did. My surgery was 7/25/19 and after my surgery my doctor told my sister that this surgery was necessary because once he got in there he had to do major repair from the sleeve surgery that was done as well as repair the hernia. He told her he understood why the sleeve was not successful. even though this is a weight loss surgery, for me it was more medical and i will still get the pleasure of losing the excess weight. So far I've lost 30lbs. I have no regrets. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. Why are you scared of RNY? I read this from lots of people and I don’t understand it. Yes it is major surgery but that just means that you need an experienced surgeon. It is regarded as the gold standard of WLS and technically it is reversible ( although this is usually only done under extreme circumstances). No part of your insides are removed, everything is still there. It is the most effective option for resolving GERD although there are a few people that still suffer with it. Taking daily vitamins is not a problem. If you have had a band you will find the variety of foods that you can eat with a bypass a lot better, you feel full in the stomach not that horrible feeling in the chest. You can go out to eat without spending the night chucking in the bathroom because your first bite went down the wrong way. I can’t comment on what having a sleeve is like because I have never had one but I do see a lot of people that are revising because of GERD. I also personally know a lot of people that have not achieved much success when going from band to sleeve or in some cases as Virgin sleevers .
  20. So a little bit about me, I was lap banded when I was 17 years old, got it taken out when I was 22 because of pouch enlargement. Now I am thinking of getting sleeve done. But the GERD part scares me, it's like exchanging disease states for one to the other. It helps get rid of Diabetes, but you acquire GERD, so severe to the point that people need revisions to another sleeve or another bariatric procedure. I would be scared to get an RNY or a Bypass, I am happy getting a Sleeve (and this was a decision I thought a lot over to even get to it), so the thought of so many revisions due to GERD scares me to even get this done in the first place. It makes me wonder if I will be one of those who undergoes this too, I don't have current GERD right now, sometimes I do get heartburn maybe three times a month, but I'm not taking anything for it chronically. Anyone have any thoughts? Thank you so much!
  21. I was band to bypass revision. Done because the band was no longer working, because studies show that over the long term the band causes a lot of damage and also reflux.

    New to Bariatric Pal!!

Hello! I had my sleeve 21 years ago and got out of the hospital 1 day before Thanksgiving. I am sure you will do fine with it. I am 54 and having a Bypass on the 16th. Wishing you the best on your journey!
  23. I'm finally come to a peaceful mindset about my conversion surgery from Sleeve to Bypass. My surgery date is set for Sept 19th. I have met with my surgeon's assistant and the hospital pharmacist to go over my current meds and meds post op. My surgeon's assistant informed me about changes to recovery meds. My surgeon office no longer prescribes the pca pump or heavy narcotics. I don't know what to make of this. I'm a little worried about pain after surgery. I had plastic surgery last Sept and I was only given 7 days of opioid meds. The first 7 days were trouble. Nothing like my recovery from VSG. I'm praying my recovery from Bypass will be similar to VSG. I will be prescribed gabapentin and tramadol. In addition, some other meds while in the hospital. My surgeon office calls it ERAS protocol. I will see my surgeon again on the day before my surgery. I'll be sure to ask him about this new recovery pain meds protocol.

Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason

Sleeved on 6/28 and now have horrible GERD. Looking to have revision surgery next spring. Not happy to have to go through surgery again, but glad there is an option to get rid of the reflux.
  25. To the OP--Achieve Goals--why are you considering a sleeve revision? Just curious. Thanks.
