    Psych evaluation?

    For me the physical hunger is completely gone now. With my sleeve it was also gone but it did come back. It was around 6 months that it started coming back if I’m remembering correctly. It comes back for most people to varying degrees of intensity. The best case is that you take that time to really change WHAT you eat, not just how much because when the hunger comes back you will likely eat larger portions and if it’s less healthy food you will probably begin to gain. At least I did. With my revision I have changed what I eat entirely. I didn’t do this with my sleeve. I had just a few menu options so it’s no wonder I got board with it and started to eat off plan more often. This time I did research and found several healthy recipes to try and I found quite a few that I enjoy so I don’t get board at all. You may not recall but I have Bipolar and Anxiety. I have found that freezing some healthy meals has come in real handy at times when I am not up to cooking. I also am in touch with my surgical team more often for office visits as well as the support group meetings and those help tremendously. Post op I also had more frequent appointment with my psychiatrist and psychologist as well. I just asked for all of the support I could find because it is a lot of change which I don’t do well with but now that I am two months out and i have a little routine I am feeling better than ever. The exercise that I am finally energized enough to do has helped my mood tremendously and the weight loss and the social aspect of the group fitness classes have helped with my self esteem too. I have so much more structure and routine now which is actually really great for Bipolar. I am able to fall asleep at night and stay asleep and I wake up at the same time and exercise, I set recurring alarms for vitamins/food and I log my food with the Baritastic app and my fitness watch keeps track of all of my activity. I show all of that data to my NP at my checkups and she helps me make adjustments to my nutrition. You will probably see a nutritionist for food related questions but I had a newer surgery called the SADI and the nutritionist wasn’t very helpful with regard to the macros after I got back to normal food. As long as you are managing your mental illness, though, you should be just fine. Just don’t hesitate to ask for whatever help that you need in order to be successful.

    You are doing great. My doc said as ling as its going in the right direction there is no right amount. I am also losing about 1kg a week and it feels slooooow. But I also measured everything when I started and realized I have lost 2 inches ! So when the weight is slow there is another motivator! Slow and steady….

    I just recently learned that the heat makes you lose more weight I noticed now that I’m wearing my fitness Watch that my heart rate when I’m walking the exact distance outside is higher than indoors and it’s calculating me burning more calories. I never really thought of it but it is harder I guess.

    7 months post-op

    not sad at all! I started walking too girl! When I first got this surgery I committed to walking for 30min 5days a week during my lunch break. I did that for 6 weeks, till I started introducing weights with work out videos with Sydney Cummings, So I did my walks during lunch then came home and did my 30min weight work out, After two weeks I knew I needed to go to the gym where I had more options with weights. The top picture is my first day at the gym and then the bottom is this week. Just consistency and tbh I didn't think I would achieve what I did. I really thought in my heart of hearts I would bottom out around 190 and just be "chunky fit" and I was/am okay with that. Start slowwwwww, its not a race and with consistency you will be shocked with your success!!

    Quite surprising side by side....

    I went to the thrift store late this afternoon (Saturday) and bought a few things because I only have XL clothes and they don't fit anymore. I was sure I was in a size 12. NOPE. I'm in a size 10!!! I was absolutely FLOORED. I was a size 8 in the senior pic above. And I'm a 10 now. Ok WHAT??? I'm absolutely STUNNED. It was a pleasant surprise, I'll tell you that. But I'd be really happy to stop losing now lol I was at the same weight for a bit and thought I was at my body's new set point. Nope. Apparently I was in another stall. When it broke, I was down a few pounds again. It's like my body has a total mind of its own and likes to lose weight now no matter what I do. But either way, the fact that I can absolutely, literally go into any physical or online store and find something in my size, and have that something be cute and in-style and not just any random thing that fits.....that brings tears to my eyes for sure.
  6. Firstly, congratulations on coming through it all and doing so well. I am like you, major complications post op resulting in almost four months of hospitalisation and multiple procedures has left me feeling anxious about any further surgery, even going past the hospital on the bus can make me feel queasy! I had my first consultation about plastics a few weeks ago and the surgeon I picked was based on asking on a local/private Facebook group, doing some internet searches and checking out reviews and medical file searches where possible (to make sure no reports that showed red flags). As I live in Europe I has had to make sure that the surgeon and his staff speak fluent English and the other main thing was I wanted a surgeon working out of a different hospital to the one I had by sleeve done at, I wanted to be sure I had none of the same team involved. I was very happy when I met the surgeon, he was honest with his opinion in that he told me that I did not need a breast lift and implant and he did not think my tummy area was worthy of surgery at this point so at least he is not operating just for the money. He has put me forward for approval for an arm lift and I am waiting for the health service to review my file and send their decision. I am a bit afraid they may say no as I had to submit pictures and only after did I realise that maybe I didn't take 'bad' enough pics. I would have preferred to submit a video of the wobble Anything else I would have to pay for myself so, given the sh*t show of my sleeve, I don't think I will do any other surgeries out of my own pocket. I would love to do something with my calves they are terrible and depress me a bit as I feel they take away the look of all the weight loss but nothing can really be done for them.
  7. I am only 3 weeks post surgery but I am hoping that the weight loss will allow me to handle the heat a bit better and I can get out and walk some around the neighborhood. I need some good sneakers for walking though. Any suggestions.

Anyway I’m on my 2nd week of pre op diet and having a hard time with it because I don’t know why?? I’ve lost a lb a day so far and my esophageal hernia started really acting up and it hurts to swallow anything. But other than that it’s great to already be losing weight. I can even fit into some clothes that I couldn’t before. My surgery is 10/21…really looking forward to it! Yours is not too far away! Yay!!! Best to you!

    Obviously you need to decide what's right for you. I was in the same boat as you in that they discovered inflammation during my EGD. I had already been leaning toward RYGB anyway, but that sealed the deal as far as I was concerned. My doctor stressed that even though I wasn't having issues with GERD, there was a strong possibility I'd develop issues if I insisted on SG. As far as risk is concerned, all surgeries carry some risk and since RYGB is a more complex surgery, you are correct that some studies show a marginally higher risk profile. Interestingly, other studies show no difference. Keep in mind that obese people are all going to have a higher surgical risk for ANY procedure than a normal sized person. Other factors that increase risk are things like heart disease, diabetes, smoking, etc. Also, surgical experience and the quality of the facilities play a huge role in overall risk. My point is that cross sectional studies showing risk are not equivalent to YOUR risks of surgery. In terms of "convertability", I think my opinion is somewhat the opposite of yours. Technically, RYGB is completely reversible, since unlike SG, nothing is removed from your body. This to me was a huge plus in my decision making process. When we look at revisions, keep in mind that revision of SG due to GERD is pretty common and those revision surgeries basically revise the patient to gastric bypass to alleviate the GERD. I can't speak to your malabsorption concerns since first of all, malabsorption in and of itself is potentially a good thing for weight loss. i can see a concern for malnutrition, but I was willing to commit to a lifetime of vitamin and calcium supplementation. I also try hard to eat a fairly healthy diet, thus also upping the chances that I have no issues with malnutrition. If you are not willing to commit you those things then yes, this may be an issue for you. Keep in mind that while it's less common, SG patients can also suffer from malnutrition. It's actually recommended that all bariatric surgery patients use supplements and eat a healthy diet and I think as long as you do those things, neither surgery is going to be an issue. Best of luck whatever you decide.

    Exercises for those who hate exercise?

    I've done a few of the "weight loss workshops" that they offered, but it was yet another weight loss diet attempt that failed. I think it was called "apples and pears" and they weighed us, gave us a few tips on healthy eating and criticised the slightest and then left us to to run around the gym for an hour. It was more like a creche for fat adults and very patronising. They offered some counselling, but she didn't want to listen to me talk about anything but food, which isn't really helpful if emotional eating isn't really about eating.

    No one sees my saggy, baggy thighs @ms.sss LOL! Wish you could get rid of the lose skin with exercise or weights. Actually it’s mainly my inner thighs so no shorty short shorts. I do wear longer closer to the knees ones which show off my toned knees.

  15. Yesterday, I had my final appointment before my surgery date. I finally started having doubts about the whole thing and I'm relieved. Having doubts probably doesn't sound like a good thing, but it finally gave me chance to unload everything that was on my mind to the doctor. I was able to tell him that maybe I wanted the bypass instead. I've been on other forums and people seem to be really against the sleeve because long term weight loss is less than with other surgeries. But he reassured me that due to my age, no comorbidities and the fact that I'm on target with my weight loss, he still thinks this is a good surgery for me and my goals. They last time I spoke to him, he told me I wasn't sticking to the diet, and then he told me "most people lose only 3-4kg pre-surgery anyway" So why was he worrying me when I ONLY lost 5kg? But I guess he was in a better mood because he was back from holiday? 😂 Next appointment is a phone appointment where I just tell him my weight. And then the surgery weigh in and bloods before the surgery. I'm so ready for this now.
  16. I would have focused more on my therapy sessions. I would have taken it all more seriously. My approach to the whole thing was "yeah yeah, I'll just go along and do what you shrink-folks tell me, let's just get this over with as quickly as possible, just sign me your 'ok' so that I can move on to surgery". At the moment I'm not very much inspired to go into more details and write some more... currently struggling with a serious weight re-gain (almost 20 kilos regain) ... and I don't know... some (almost) 3 years after my surgery, still struggling, just like before the surgery.

    There are lots of averages around weight loss and the different surgeries but, trust me, there are a myriad of differences around those averages. And there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s how they get those statistical averages. Everyone loses at their own rate and as with all averages, some will lose more or faster and some will lose less or slower. You’re losing and that is the only thing you should consider. If you are losing any amount, you’re winning. Celebrate every pound you lose. You’ve lost 10kgs! That’s amazing. Congratulations!

    @Justarwaxx I am so glad you got the reassurance that you need. It’s funny because everyone has heard of the “bypass” or WLS but when you talk about WLS or any type people always lump them all into one group and most people call them all the bypass (unless they are an actual patient but even then most aren’t real familiar with all of the surgeries in terms of specifics). Some people, even educated ones, don’t know anything other than it makes you lose weight. I had a Doctor (not a medical Doctor thank God) ask me if I was worried i wouldn’t lose all of my weight why I didn’t just ask them to take more out!’ Like all things in life until you have a reason to know you just don’t know.

  20. meh I think your finnneeee!!! As long as your not passing out, dizzy or exhausted I think your body is just responding to this new you and was ready to get rid of the excess weight. Keep doing what your doing girl!! I had the sleeve and I dropped 30lbs my first month post-op. I mean I am 7months and down 131lbs. Some of us just lose weight hella quick!!

    Ache or pain months AFTER surgery and...

    I'm noticing more aches and pains since I've dropped so much weight. I thought it was weird, too, so I asked my doctor and he said it can be normal with bariatric patients. Particularly those who lose a substantial amount of weight. I may go back and ask for additional testing, just to be sure. But being hyper focused on hitting or not hitting the goal number on the scale you set can really do a number on you mentally and emotionally. I'm very goal oriented when it comes to work and school, but I had to learn to let some of that go when it came to my personal life. Specifically weight loss. It took a while, but I realized that the NSVs were way more important than the number on the scale. Once I figured that out and took some of the pressure off myself, the scale actually started to move more in the direction I wanted it to lol
  23. I’ve been very slow to lose weight and it hasn’t dropped for days. Currently 13 days post op and lost a combined weight of 16 lbs. Gastric Sleeve. I am still on liquids. My nutritionist said my body is in shock and trying to hold on to everything including water. so well see… but i understand the feeling of slow.

    I think it takes our minds some time to catch up to the changes in our bodies, especially when the change has been so quick and you have been distracted by all the new eating rules and weight loss. You also had your holiday to focus on too. Now there are no real distractions and the changes have hit you. I know when I lost weight previously, it didn’t feel ‘real’ - ?? I felt like I was observing someone else from afar. I know it doesn’t make sense - I was the one dieting, I was the one working out, I was the one weighing and measuring but it’s honestly how I felt. I certainly didn’t feel that, once I had hit target, that I would stay thinner and that would be that. I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop, as they say! Comments from others can add to the problem, especially when your mind is playing tricks on you and you’re struggling to come to terms with a different ‘you’. I hate the backhanded ‘compliment’ because it just strikes me as bitchy when there is no need. It generally means that the person giving it is jealous or miffed at what you have achieved. Well screw them, that’s their problem, not yours. You certainly don’t owe anyone an explanation of how and why. 💜
  25. Yes my surgeon doesn’t think in resizing either. He did do an endoscopy and said I still have my restriction lol do you worry of losing too much with the sedi. His PA told me”your going to lose alot of weight” and her tone almost scard me lol I figured if I lose to much ill up calories until I reach a happy middle lol goal is 140
