You are right, its going to be up to me on the success of my weight loss future. I'm starting to look into the keto diet and the meal plan. I do know the dr I'm going too does not want you to eat red meat or pork for 1 year. I'm not sure I can go a year with out red meat lol.

Excess skin after WLS
Happy Stylist replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks. And congrats on your weight loss journey. My health insurance doesn't cover and weight loss stuff. So I'll be out of pocket on the sleeve surgery that I plan on getting soon. I'm hoping my extra skin won't look to bad 🤷🏼♀️ -
I actually had severe diagnosed GERD for nearly 20 years pre-surgery and took ridiculous amounts of PPI. I also had my heart set on RNY because I was under the impression that VSG wasn't an option. My surgeon gave me the choice, saying that post surgery, once I lost the weight, the GERD would go away. I chose VSG. I'm glad I did. During my surgery I also got a hiatal hernia repair and a fundoplication. Once I lost my weight the GERD was GONE. In total transparency, I've had a small amount of regain and it DID return but I'm working my way back down so meds are also gradually decreasing. The main reason I'm glad I did VSG is because I had absolutely ZERO complications, no healing issues, had no malabsorption and just felt great in general. I did eventually develop lactose intolerance, but I'm told that can happen with either surgery.

I do have excess skin, 8 years post VSG and swore I would have it all taken off. In total transparency, I had a small amount of regain so I'm focused on getting back to where I should be, but then I will be taking it off. Sadly I carry ALL my weight around my middle and so my excess skin literally looks like deflated balloon. I have different insurance than I did at the time, due to advancing my career, but the insurance I used to have would cover skin removal IF you lost 100 lbs after surgery. They're all different. I don't wear compression garments or anything but have gotten expert-level at buying the correct shirts that are billowy and flow-y so they hide it. For now..

Sadly my surgeon was right! It’s exactly one month since my surgery, I’ve gained 10lbs since my surgery. It was not the liquids from my surgery. I’m disappointed and frustrated

Wow this is great to hear. I know that everyone's weight loss journey is didn't. I'm going to be self pay and that a lot of money to just turn around and gain it all back. So I'm really scared that I will fail.

your 6 months out and your sidebar says you started at 477lb and lost 162lb and are currently at 315. That is amazing for only 6 months. Keep it going. home scales are not always accurate and many people end up in a stall where they wont loose any weight for a little while. Thats normal.

I am 6 months out and I feel that am not losing any weight is this normal to feel like this ? My scale I have 2 of them and they both say am different when I weigh myself and sometimes I feel that am not gonna loss anymore wight is this normal to feel like this ?

What Led To Revision
emk101009 replied to dennydenco's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the sleeve 7 years ago. I lost 90 lbs. I gained back 70. I have terrible Gerd. My surgeon told me a few years out that the sleeve did what it was supposed to do and i won't lose like weight again. I went to a new surgeon and he recommended a revision to bypass. I'm 6 days out. I hope to hell I can maintain this time. -
Anxiety about calories in pureed food
fourmonthspreop posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Is this stupid to focus on? I'm really working on not obsessing over my weight and calories and just trying to listen to myself but obviously it's good to have some idea. I'm 22 days post op and in pureed foods right now. I can eat about 650 calories a day with no feelings of fullness/restrictions. I can't remember what number my dietician gave me, I feel like it was 700 but I'm waiting for her to reply to my message. I'm feeling guilty for eating over 600 calories for some stupid reason. I know everyone's journey is different. Anyone else experience this anxiety? How many calories should I be eating in pureed food and protein drinks? Why am I craving this particular food? (Food mention trigger warning)
Guest replied to PuraVida37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm sure I've bored everyone to death with this before, but we get put outside to sleep our naps when we're kids. Until school starts when we're 6. Also in sub-zero temps. Also when it snows. When our moms go to the store, they leave us outside in the pram to sleep. So until I had surgery, regardless of weight, my preferred bedroom temperature was 8C / 46F. Just on the cusp of being able to see my own breath. -

Thank you Teeva,🌷 I can feel like I have lost weight and everybody tells me I look like I have lost, but I am so used to get the scale validation, it may not be healthy, like you, my sisters recommended me to weight myself less often, to avoid wrong decisions while chasing a smaller number. I had some other issues yesterday I went to ER ( long story) they found my Potassium was low between other things, today I will follow up with my surgeon and my nutritionist to see what is going on. -
I have this, it's scar tissue, and more than others because mine was a revision from a band. The eating may place relieving weight on the area. You may want the internal scaring cleared up.

There are a lot of sources that talk about a "3 week stall" that describes a temporary (maybe 1-4 weeks) halt in weight loss right around this time-- don't worry, it's normal! I've read that it's the body reacting and adjusting to the change (and making sure it's not starving). Some people say they have a big drop right after the stall ends and that they have other signs of 'progress' during this time. It might be a good decision to weigh yourself less frequently, like once a week or so, so that you don't agonize too much over the micro-ups/downs. I personally hit this stall for about a week, quickly lost another 7 lbs and then hovered there for another couple of weeks. Keep doing what you are doing, you are totally on the right track! -
Thanks for the post. I loved the video. I haven’t had my surgery yet and I really don’t know what to put as a goal weight. I understood his calculation of 70% of excess. But I missed what is considered my “ideal weight”. Do you use the middle of BMI normal range? My start weight was 198. And I’m 5’4”. What do I use as the ideal weight number to subtract from the 198 .

November Surgery Buddies!!!
Pete-TheTimeIsNow replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Restriction is still there. Don't have to wait between bites. And not having to super-chew the food either. My doctor's guidelines call for food weight instead of volume (which, TBH, doesn't make a lot of sense ). They call for 4-5 oz max weight. For example something like 2 oz of protein, 1 oz of vegetables, and 1 oz of carbs. I would guess that a volume limit would correlate more with the new limited volume of the sleeve. -

Hello everyone! Happy to see that you are doing well! My surgery was on November 24, I lost 57 lb, which is 70% of my weight loss goal. Felling great, no issues at all. I had couple stalls, the last one was almost three weeks long. Last week I noticed that I can eat bigger portions of solid foods without feeling restrictions. Do you guys feel less restrictions too? How much of solid food can you eat at once, like one cup or less? -
Why am I craving this particular food? (Food mention trigger warning)

I think because soda is usually drunk with junk food and vice versa. I drink coke and soda water sometimes i get a bit of a pain if i drink to fast or too soon after eating. If i am honest i guess it could have contributed to the slowing of my weight loss.people who drink soda/ssoft drink tend to have poor diets and people with poor diets tend to be fat so i guess that is the reason. I dont have it everyday but certainly more often that i should as i am not a fan of plain water and i cant stand anything with artifical sweetners. -

6 weeks out and am happy as a clam I did this. Down almost 50lbs. 4 weeks post op was a huge goal of being able to eat fish. The shakes soups and yogurts were starting to get to me. Now 6 weeks out I’m still not hungry and eat 3-5 is of solid food chix, fish, chopped meat Turkey , sausage, beef!!!shrimp is actually the easiest for me. So good luck and follow your plan. Also walking and weights 5-6x a week. -
My husband and I are on this weight loss surgery journey together. We have completed all our pre-op requirements, and now are just waiting. We will both be having the gastric bypass and are hoping for a 100 lb loss each. I have requested to have our surgeries same day or within days of each other - our adult children have agreed to help us out for awhile. I'm excited to finally post here after reading everyone else's news & questions. I've been gathering information, gadgets and containers in anticipation of our new lifestyle. We already have made big changes and lost some weight. So good luck to Mike & I, as well as, all of you 😀

I'm down about 80lbs. I've been stuck since the end of December though and I'd really like to lose another 20. Especially because I'd really like to try for another child in a few months so I'd like to get to my lowest before I risk gaining any with pregnancy. I finally made an appointment with my dietician for later this week so maybe he can help me get things moving again. I'm working on exercising more but with that comes an increased appetite so it's a hard balance.

I totally understand, BMI and weight on a chart looks so different than on various people.

1 week away from changing my life
wendyrlandry posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
HI! I'm a 46 year old female from South Louisiana. I will be having gastric sleeve on 3/16/22. I'm currently 5'3", 245lbs and my goal weight is 145lbs. (if i lose more, that's a bonus but i felt 145 was a realistic goal.) I am insulin resistant with HBP. Thyroid disease runs rampant on both sides of my family, as does diabetes. I'm borderline Type 2 and my TSH levels are also borderline. I've tried for years to lose weight through diet and exercise. I think i tried every fad diet out there. While i would lose weight initially, the minute i was left to my own resources, the weight just piled back on. Exercise was a whole different issue that my PCP just couldn't understand. It didn't matter what i was doing or where i was doing it, after 15 minutes i began to overheat and 2x had to be taken for medical attention. (one of those times was doing nothing more than walking in my neighborhood.) My PCP always said it was my BP causing that and if I would just lose weight, it would stop. Well doc, how do you propose i do that if i can't exercise without passing out? When my employer finally started covering bariatric surgery, if certain comorbidities were met, i jumped at the chance. That is when i found out i was insulin resistant. I'm about to hit the clear liquid stage of my pre-op diet and am very stressed. Yesterday I had issues with nausea and vomiting every time i tried to drink a protein shake or protein water. I just couldn't get it down. I hear that is normal the 1st 48-72 hours of the liquid diet but yesterday was day 5. (i was able to find the Fairlife portien shakes and those didn't make me gag.) I'm really nervous about the clear diet. Any suggestion on clear protein drinks that taste good and won't make me gag? (I have tried the Gatorade g2 in fruit punch and the blue one. The blue was one the only one that didn't make me gag as much. I also have tried the Protein2O and those were just awful as well.) I have found some good broths that i will try and i have the Isopure unflavored protein powder. I tried adding the powder to warm broth and that was a disaster. Thanks in advance for the tips. I'm excite to start this new phase in my life and get healthy, not only for me but for my husband and kids. I beat cancer, i can't let obesity be the thing that kills me. -

Hello and welcome. Premiere protein shakes are what my surgeon recommended but they are all different in terms of what shakes they want you on (best advice is stick to your clinics plan). Many people have to do broth on their pre op diet. I was fortunate mine wasn’t all liquid (again stick to your teams plan). My significant other was very on board. I was thin when I met him though so he could see the difference in how my weight slowed me down physically as well as emotionally over the years as I gained it and didn’t have the fears that some partners get that I would get thin and act different or leave him cause I loved him when I was thin before and he knew what to expect. I am glad your significant others is starting to be supportive. Perhaps take them along to doctors appointments and support group meetings and they will get more on the same page. Congratulations on starting this life changing journey -

I didn't think of this before, but in the spirit of honesty: definitely consider if your body has decided you're done losing weight (or at least at this pace). I know this may not be what you want to hear, but remember - being hungry is the first step in overeating. You're almost a year out, you've lost a tremendous amount of weight, of course your body is going to start getting hungry. Maybe it's not so much random cravings as simply ... hunger?
