revise from Band to sleeve with a low BMI... Cash pay?
BayougirlMrsS posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Good afternoon all..... how many of you had sleeve revision after complete success with the band. Banded in 2009. 2009 SW: 232lbs, LW: 135lbs... but my best most consistent weight 143 for 7+ years. Zero trouble till 2017, got the flu and slipped my band. I managed to keep my weight down pretty good and gained 30lbs in the 2.5 years. But no matter what i ate and no matter what i did (crossfit 3-4 x per week) i couldn't lose. Any people revise from Band to sleeve with a low BMI... Cash pay? -
Re-sleeve or revision

Bypass. My doc didn’t even give me the re-sleeve option. My situation was because my sleeve had stretched. -
I’m staring a closed FB group for those specifically who are looking into or have had Sleeve to Bypass revision surgery. It’s called “Revision Journey.” Feel Free to join!

Hi All, So this is sort of a weird question, but did anyone else read their operation report and know how much of their jejunum was bypassed? When I spoke with my surgeon at my 3 week post op appointment, he mentioned that he bypassed “a bit more” of the jejunum than average, because he also makes the pouch a little bit larger “to improve quality of life.” From what I understand my pouch is about the size of a small tangerine/golf ball and in reading the op report it looks like most of my jejunum is bypassed. Which does not bother me in the least. I’m actually pleased with that surgical approach and I also realize that I’ll have to be extra diligent with taking my vitamins. When I researched, it looked like the average is about 35-45cm bypassed. Sorry for such a technical post. I’m a former nurse and I still love researching and reading medical info.

I love your dress and those shoes are amazing. I'm doing ok. I'm going to be having an EGD because I have an off and on again stomach pain/upset since surgery. I haven't got the date yet until they get the approval. I will let you know what I find out. I'm at 251 and have lost 87 pounds. I feel like I should have lost more, but probably am waiting too much. Last night I ate a whole croissant with no ill feeling. If eat chicken it hurts after a few bites. I try to stick to soft proteins. Yogurt is the easiest on my stomach. I still have tons of restriction, but am finding I can graze a bit. I'm still trying to be very mindful of what I eat. I am at a BMI of 39.9 which is just below morbid obesity. I still have a long way to go. I really hope it get there by 18 months. My dr and I will go over my options at 12 months to see if i need/want a revision to DS. I'm having so much lose skin and would consider doing my arms. I carry my weight in my upper half of my body and have way smaller legs. I guess we all have our problem areas. Mine is my arms, breasts and stomach. You're looking good! How much do you have to lose to goal? I'm at a spot that most people started. But, overall I feel pretty amazing! Take care! Stay in touch. 💗 -

Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
ren0318 replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Just jumping in... I had acid before sleeve, some how I missed the part about it may worsen with the sleeve... mine is controlled with meds, however the prescription med I take is damaging my kidneys and I’m a diabetic, so my endocrinologist wants me to get the bypass so I can get off the prescription medicine for the reflux -

Binge Eating: Sleeve to Bypass
PepperCat posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m scared. I honestly didn’t think that insurance would approve me. I had sleeve in 2017. I was at 275 and my lowest went down to 150. But then I had chronic unexplained migraines daily and I sought out food for comfort. I gained 50 pounds back. My sleeve is completely stretched. Somehow I miraculously was approved for revision to bypass. I still am in shock that insurance approved. The thing is. I feel like a failure. I have bing eating disorder and even though I’m in therapy, it still consumes me. I am scared that I’ll fail at this second chance or that I’ll have complications. -

Insurance recommendations...
tarahuff82 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello all. It’s been a very long time since I’ve posted in here. I had sleeve in 4/2014. Was doing good, lost 80 lbs (definitely not as much as I needed to or hoped for) and as of 3 years ago I’ve developed server GERD and bad stomach pains. I’ve also had Achilles’ tendon repair surgery and a muscle tear surgery on my left elbow so my mobility has been very very limited. Achilles’ tendon surgery recovery time is exactly 1 year. And I had both done so to say the least, I’ve been home...not being able to do exercises at all, except resistance bands which I do do. So, with my weight gain all 80 plus more regain I’m exactly 22 lbs heavier than I was the day of my VSG surgery. I recently had an UGI and EGD done 2 weeks ago which showed severe GERD, gastritis and I have bleeding in my stomach as well the bariatric doctor said. He wants to do a revision to bypass which I’m very happy about, no more GERD and hopefully to get some weight off also. Question is; I’ve already checked with my insurance company BCBS and they said I was certainly covered for a revision as long as I meet 2 of the 6 comorbities and I meet 3. I had them send me the info on getting the revision and I’ve read it throughly and it says in it that if my doctor suggests that I do the nutrition classes prior to surgery then I have to. I am going to express to my bariatric doctor that this pain is unbearable and can he please do it ASAP. How long did y’all have to wait for your revision from getting your testing/procedure results back? Did your bariatric doctor make you go through all the nutritional classes all over again? I’m really really hoping that he doesn’t make me do these classes because I’ve already met my annual deductible and this whole revision bypass surgery will be fully covered 100% and I will have zero money to pay. Please tell me there’s hope. My next appointment with him is on October 29th so I’m praying he will give me some excellent news. I’m going to stress to him about my insurance as well. TIA for any feedback -

Wow, I am so sorry you have had to endure this pain and then regain. I had a revision from a VBG to a RNY 3 weeks ago. I am close to feeling normal again. My first surgery was in October 1998 and I went from 302 to 150 in abut a year and a half. But then about 4 years ago I started gaining weight, until I reached 225. My PCP sent me to the surgeon because I had developed a fistula between my pouch and my stapled off stomach, which made it like I didn't have a pouch at all. Anyway it took about 2 months total from my first appointment to surgery. I am on the road to recovery. I can say it seems that the most popular revision is the RNY. Good luck!

Weight loss goals
Frustr8 replied to Darktowerdream's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
And May You Work to make It so- I have passed Doctor's Goal- anything below 200 but I am still trying for My Dream of 175- so so close- really am hating My At3as of Gauntness- 2 of my,Major Doctors SAY I'm Looking Fine- but I am Doubting Myself at This Point- maybe a Crisis of Spirit- it the Emesis, underlying pain and the knowledge I inately now feel " Gastrointestinally Crippled" and it is a Life Sentence without Parole, maybe it is time to seek some Bariatric type consultation SOMEWHERE- people keep saying "I'm Just Fine" nobody actually seems to Listen- and a Niggl8ng Voice wisps for the days of Tummy satifactionn oh it Wasn't Always" Binge City" for Me- I just wish i DIDN'T HURT ANY MORE- yeah the scale does Read Lovely but have I, like the Biblical Esau, sold my soul for A Bowl of Pottage_ And were the deminishment of size worth the pain and perpetual nausea state I have now? I went into this to regain health NOT to lose it in the process- the Brave Little Cowgirl is feeling Midnight Blue this AM- even watched the Bypass reversal. Videos on YouTube- DON'T Think I'M QUITE THERE YET but am teetering towards- even IF it killed me and an Open Abdominal surgery at 73 just COULD I might die with the sense of peace I don't feel TODAY- I am weary of the struggle, my friends, and too too depressed over what I elected to have done to ME. But I can't commit to suicide for ME - I couldn't hurt my family, friends and BP friends by THIS, my uncle did kill himself before I was born and my Daddy carried emotional scars to his own death 50+ years later, mourned his brother that was his "Irish Twin" only 11 months between them and when He told me of Uncle Clement, He Cri3d and I did TOO-! So where does One go from Here? Sorry to Vent- maybe there is PEACE Ahead? Some Say :Give Yourself at least 18 months to Feel Healed" Well I'm still less than That, maybe I will be Okay? -
Hi, Revision type, timing and approval is very individual. You need to consult your Surgeon for accurate answers. While you wait perhaps can track your food meticulously and even join us in some of the threads that refocus your lifestyle/habits: You may find that you can reach your goals without revision surgery 💙 Good Luck

Gastric bypass or sleeve
Azlanie replied to laura071693's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Research both options. You have to be honest with WHY you are having this surgery. I went with sleeve for two reasons - I was a chronic over eater and never felt "full" enough after a meal, so I crammed more into my mouth, and I wanted to avoid more long term complications. My surgeon was extremely thorough when he was going over the options (Bypass, SIPS, and Sleeve). He said that he recommends the sleeve for all patients unless there is something intrinsically wrong with anatomy or another major concern (I do not remember them all, do not want to misrepresent why I made the choice I did). The surgery is easier on the body (no complete rerouting of your plumbing) and when guidelines are followed the difference in weight loss is less than 5%. Most people that have complications have them within the first three to six months. Complications with bypass can occur even years out. There is no malaborption, but a vitamin is mandatory with both procedures. No matter what decision you make, be sure that you are thinking about your future - your long term goals, and how this surgery will change your life! No matter what you decide you will be happier and healthier for it if you follow the rules =D -
I have the sleeve in 2013. Everything was going well. My weight before surgery was 275. I went down to 170. Then in 2015 I fractured a couple of bones in my foot. It required surgery. And now I have screws permanently in my foot to keep the bones from shifting. I went over 6 months without being able to walk due to complications. And unfortunately I started to gain the weight back. I’m so disappointed at myself. I have losing the weight I gained (I’m currently 215). However, nothing I do is working. Working out is difficult since I have screws in my foot. My foot swells and causes me a lot of pain. Plus, my asthma is really bad since I have regained my weight. I want to get a revision as soon as possible. I was wondering what is the process for revision and how long does it take for the insurance to approve revision surgery? What is the best revision to do? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I’m very happy with my sleeve. I don’t find the long term outcomes for success to be significant for me. My doctor only does the sleeve unless someone has GERD or another good reason to go with bypass. Good luck with whatever you choose. -
I had revision from lapband to RNY.. My insurance approved me and I had the surgery.. I received a bill fo 6700.00 they paid for everything except the actual bypass. Wtf. Finally after 2 appeals and 6 months they paid.

Gastric bypass or sleeve
momof3_angels replied to laura071693's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I prefer the sleeve as I don't want my plumbing completely rerouted. The sleeve is a more straight forward removal of a large portion of the stomach. Bypass does that but reorganizes your gift track so it works differently. If I had a lit more weight to lose I would have to co sider the bypass... but the sleeve should do the trick for me.
