  1. In the beginning you are eating very small portion sizes & can only sip so you have to drink every couple of minutes. I certain,y didn’t & wasn’t encouraged to eat every 30minutes but only three times a day . (You are advised not to drink 30mins before or after you eat. Maybe you confused the eat every 30mins???) And yes it sometimes can be a struggle to meet your fluid & protein goals every single day but you’ll work out ways around this. It all improves & gets easier. By around month 3 I ate three meals a day & one or two snacks one of which was a high protein yoghurt (15-22g protein) to ensure I got all my protein in. Some continue to have a protein shake which counts as fluid as well as protein. By the time you are in or close to maintenance your portion sizes will have increased to being about the recommended portion size for all food for an adult e.g. 3-4ozs of meat & you’ll be able to do more than just sip. Some say they can get back to drinking whole glasses in one go. Everyone should be drinking 2L/64ozs of fluids a day & everyone should be consuming about 1g of protein per kg of body weight (multiply your weight in pounds by 0.36). Doesn’t matter if they’ve had weight loss surgery or not so it’s not something special to us. By maintenance, If you eat three meals a day, with about 15-25g protein each, you’ll be getting about all the protein you’ll need +/-. Age, activity level, gender does affect the amount you will need of course. Of course while losing we’re given a specific protein goal to compensate the restricted diet. Check out this protein calculator for when your weight has stabilised: https://www.nal.usda.gov/human-nutrition-and-food-safety/dri-calculator Oh & I’m almost 57 & days out from my 3 year anniversary.

Soaking in a tub after sleeve surgery

Will getting in & out if the bath be an issue? Remember any lifting restrictions you have. Mine was not to lift/carry anything heavier than 5kgs the first 2 weeks, then 10kg. I don’t know how you get out of the bath but I always pushed & heaved myself up & I weigh way more than 5kgs. 😂😂. Also soaking in warm water my cause the glue to break down more quickly. But I’d check with your team first too.

keep postponing to start my preop liquid diet.

Oh man lol I did a whole thread on the dreaded "hell week" as I called it lol Not gonna lie. The first 3 days were HORRIBLE for me. Day 4 started to get better and days 5-7 were easy. You just have to do it. I wanted to quit every day those first 3 days. Heck, I think I did, in my head lol But I remembered why I was doing it, and I came here for support (and this board is FANTASTIC for that) and I made it through. You will, too. But you're going to psych yourself out if you keep putting it off and building it up to yourself so high it feels like some insurmountable wall. You got this!!!! Nothin to it but to do it!!!!
  4. I guess it depends on what the family likes to eat & what your old favourites were that may tempt you. I only have to cook for myself but every couple of weeks or so I spend the weekend with my mother & do the cooking.(She’s 82 & doesn’t always cook or eat well for herself anymore.) In the first year, I remember her emotionally saying she didn’t know what I ate anymore & what she had to buy. The irony was I did the shopping & we ate the same things with maybe the odd slight difference. Like she’d have potatoes but I wouldn’t. She’d have dessert but I wouldn’t. Never had to cook separate meals right from soft foods. I’ve also had impromptu meals with friends & their family & my siblings & their children without issue except I have to say no if they’re making pasta (unless I can have the sauce separately). When you’re on soft or solid foods can you modify some family favourites - swap out cooking methods, swap some ingredients, reduce the fat content, etc. - to make healthier, more nutritious meals to benefit everyone & that complement your eating plan?

    Psychology appt anxious

I was super nervous as well. The psychologist asked me questions about being overweight, how long have I struggled with my weight, what are my eating patterns, and what is my activity level. Then he asked me about bariatric surgery, why I think it’s a good option, what kind of support system do I have at home and what are my expectations and goals. I took the MMPI test and a psychological evaluation exam online about a week later. Then I met with the psychologist a second time to discuss my test results. Then he approved me for surgery at the end of the appointment.

keep postponing to start my preop liquid diet.

The length depends on your BMI. Some people can do 1 week. While others like myself needed 2 weeks. Worst thing that can happen is you get in that operating room and they open you up and end up closing you back up without doing anything because the liver was too big. I did 2 weeks. Yea its hard at first but after 3-4 days it gets easier. and as for coffee. While every surgeon is different. I was specifically told not to give up coffee during this time. that the pre op diet would be hard enough. I was free to drink coffee tho they said to use sugar free creamer. Also ask your bariatric team. While mine was liquid. They did say if i was struggling too much i could have 1 small meal a day of lean meats like chicken/fish 2-3oz and 2-3oz of certain veggies. (I did Sockeye salmon and asparagus)
  8. Hi I am always worried about weight gain after my surgery I am 4 months post op , and there's days that go by and I only eat very few calories but all from healthy foods and there is usually one day out of the week that I feel that I m like a little piggy , and I m scared to death to get on the scale the next day but it's CRAZY because instead of gaining any weight I actually usually loose more? Has anyone else been seeing this? Sent from my REVVL V+ 5G using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. My experience for myself was the first 3 days were a challenge but after about day four I was doing really good. By the time of my 2nd week I wasnt even hungry and just finished out the week. We'd all like to think it can be easy but its not when first starting out. Hang in there and you should be able to conquer it. I was a big Dt Coke drinker and I had to let that nemesis go. By the 2nd week I had no desire to drink Dt Coke. That made me happy
  10. I am 10 days away from my surgery I am having difficulty sticking on my my fluid diet since I heard you can shrink your liver in one week. I keep postponing my start and enjoy stuff I wouldn't be able to eat after surgery. 😕 How are you guys doing or how you did it? P.S Being without coffee is the hardest, I could do coffee and water for 2 days straight.

    May 2022 surgery?

As I mentioned in my post this is what my surgeon follows not every surgeon follows this rule. She prefers her patients do the 2 week liquid diet for optimal results. I never said this is what all surgeons follow I clearly stated this is the route my surgeon requires. You are following your surgeons guidelines just as I followed mine!

    Weight stall at 9 months

What is your current BMI? I got down close to my goal and stalled and then gained and it was the end of my weight loss. If you aren’t close to goal though it could just be a fluctuation. A three pound gain could be anything. Small fluctuations like that happen. For me when I eat carbs especially. It’s water weight and it goes away after a couple days without carbs. Are you still tracking what you eat? If you haven’t reached your bodies happy weight or accidentally put yourself into maintenance by increasing calories it is just a fluctuation. Time will tell.
  13. Yes you will eat again! I’m 9 weeks post op and I’m not cleared for a full diet but I still get to eat things that I enjoy and still fit my program. Just hang in there. Time moves so fast so take it one day at time. Once you start to loose the weight it will help motivate your brain to just keep going.
  14. I am a 69 y/o female that had VSG on 8/10/21. I am a slow loser, I have lost 51 pounds. I have gained 3 lbs back. Depressed also have eaten some high carb foods, but have gotten back on diet. Am retired not alot of physical activity. I do try to ride stationary bike. Any other people that are having similar problems? Would appreciate any advice on breaking stall.

    June 2022 surgery buddies

I'm not happy about no caffeine either but I understand why. I'm worried about being around people while I am in pain, I do not do well with people helping me. My doctor said 2 weeks minimum but I am hoping less as I'd rather use my PTO for other things. lol😂

I was told 2 weeks minimum because I am having Laparoscopic RNY

Soaking in a tub after sleeve surgery

My surgeon said no pool for 2 weeks, no hot tub or bath for 4 weeks. If your surgeon said to wait 2 weeks, I would wait the 2 weeks. You only have 4 days to go, but there's a reason they say to wait. I wouldn't chance it.
  18. Thanks, y’all! Very good point about the water! I’ll probably hold off until my 6 weeks post are up - just to be on the safe side.

Day 3 post op and protein shakes?

Are you on full liquids? I was when I left the hospital as well but not everyone is. If your not it won’t kill you to miss your protein goal by a little bit for a couple of days. Some people struggle for weeks and they are ultimately okay. I wouldn’t advance the diet faster than my team suggests.

Soaking in a tub after sleeve surgery

my surgeons paperwork said specifically no submerging for 2 weeks minimum and at my two week follow up she checks my incisions and said i was clear to submerge in water. tho every surgeon is different.

Day 3 post op and protein shakes?

i was on full liquids once i left the hospital so i started the protein shakes when i got home. It was hard at first. Found it was a bit easier to pour the shakes into those little 1 ounce cups and take shots like that lol I used Premier shakes and Boost Glucose control shakes during those 2 weeks after the hospital.

Soaking in a tub after sleeve surgery

I was just curious at what others did. Everyone has different rules. So I was wondering if anyone was told it was ok to bathe early then 2 weeks. But it's looking like my surgeon rule isn't as long as y'all's.

Soaking in a tub after sleeve surgery

I was told I think 4 weeks for bathing or pools. They want to make sure your incisions are fully healed. Why don't you call your surgery center to confirm?
