  1. If you've accepted the risk then you wouldn't be prepared to beat yourself up for making a decision that resulted, completely out of your control, in a less than positive outcome. Accepting the risk means making the best of any result. I don't think you realize it but you are loaded with conflict, the result of which is you can't win: "I have been blessed with good health, despite obesity" except: "I want to get healthier, " and "I want to be able to exercise without getting so winded," and " I had to run to catch a plane a few weeks ago and I just couldn't keep up with my family," and " I want to be able to roll over in bed without it causing earthquake motion", and " I would love to get off of my CPAP." Are you "healthy" or not? pick one. Then there is your selfish desire to "My husband and I go to Disney all the time and I would like to take them [the Grandkids]" You've talked yourself into a fine no-win scenario: You talk about surgical horror stories you've read that lead to death, stroke, being sick forever. Not unsurprisingly these are also major complications of morbid obesity. You can kick yourself for getting surgery and not getting surgery! Which path will you regret more? Trying and failing or not trying at all. My philosophy is that the path I choose will work out for the best. It's this philosophy or living in regret. Good luck, Tek
  2. That video is awesome. I knew about the 3 week stall but i had no clue on why.

    May 2022 surgery?

Well it’s been a week since my VSG surgery. I started full liquids today. So far it’s been pretty easy. I’ve lost 16 pounds already which is insane to me! I’m starting to get tired of all flavors of protein shakes. I’m barley in any pain as well. So far I think I’m doing great!
  4. It is just one of the many stalls that you will have. The first one is usually around three weeks. It is extremely common. If you search it on here you will see how many people experience it by How many results.

    May 2022 surgery?

I just had my one week postoperative visit today. I am doing great. No nausea, no issues thus far and I’m meeting my protein/fluid intake. My doctor just approved me to go to the purée stage and I’m down 8.8 pounds in a week:)
  6. I think that's what I keep telling myself -- there is no normal. And I've read that some ppl lose weight one week and the second week nothing and the third week nothing and the fourth week a ton is lost. So I have read that experience from others...thanks for sharing! I hope you're doing well at 4 months post-op! How much have you lost so far?
  7. What is the three week stall? I've never heard it!!!

    High sugars

I had high sugars the first three weeks PO and then my sugar dropped to 105 and then under 100 there after - consistently. I stopped checking about 3 weeks ago. I'm 8 weeks PO (gastric bypass). My doctor explained it to me as my body adjusting and healing. I was worried at first but they were correct. My sugars dropped and I'm feeling great. Give yourself a little time, I understand it is hard not to be concerned though, because it's a lingering concern from before and something we were always told to watch. They took me off all medicine immediately after surgery and I haven't had to take anything other than my thyroid and multivitamin.
  9. Hello! I too was like you, lucky to not really have any health problems. I did have borderline high blood pressure. Also, GERD which may or may not be weight related. But, I justified it by knowing my family genes and that my time would be coming. Everyone is my family is obese and they ALL have a list of health problems. I knew if I didn't do something to loose weight and keep it off that my day was coming. I would wake up and have all kinds of issues. I am not about 7 weeks post-op and I have NO REGRETS! There is also risks because because you are healthy the risks get lower. You have to do what is right for you but I am pro surgery!

    Weight loss/increase 2 weeks post-op?

The best thing to do is to stay off of the scale for a while in the beginning. Stalls happen to most people. This video explains the science behind "The Dreaded Stall."
  11. Hello my new friends, I have wanted to get the sleeve surgery for many years. I've just completed my 6 month supervised diet. I am scheduled for my labs and EGD very soon. Then I can get on the surgical schedule. 98% of me is jumping for joy and so eager to get started on this new journey! I am 52 years old, 5ft tall and 252#. My reasons are that I want to get healthier. I want to be able to exercise without getting so winded. I had to run to catch a plane a few weeks ago and I just couldn't keep up with my family. I want to be able to roll over in bed without it causing earthquake motion. I would love to get off of my CPAP. I have grandbabies who are 2 and 1. My husband and I go to Disney all the time and I would like to take them. I know the tool of this surgery would help me! I am ready for the hard work and lifestyle change! Now, the 2% ....I have been blessed with good health, despite obesity. Am I being selfish to risk something horrible happening during surgery or a complication after? I can't stand the thought of voluntarily going in for an elective procedure and coming out worse than going in? I hear all of the horror stories about people dying, having strokes, being sick forever. I would appreciate any logical and rational thinking to read when that 2% sneaks in.
  12. That small of an increase could be anything. Retaining water, full bowels, etc. Fluctuations of a up to a few pounds can even happen within a single day. I wouldn’t worry too much about that. And as for the few days without losing it’s possible that you hit your three week stall early. It’s so common that they have that name for it. It happens “around” the third week for most. If the little fluctuations are going to bother you you may be better to weigh yourself less often because stalls do happen and so do those small fluctuations. As long as the overall trend is down you will be fine.
  13. you are reaching your first stall... you will have more stalls along your journey. I am 3 weeks post op and i am currently in a stall. I have not lost weight in almost a week and actually gained about a pound. It will run its course and will loose again.
  14. Hi! I know I'm "new" to all of this. I'm 13 days post op. The first 5 days after surgery, I had lost 7.5 lbs. By the 7 day mark, I had hit a 9 lb weight loss. I was SO EXCITED so I figured I'd weigh myself maybe every 4 days after the 7 day mark. I was REALLY looking forward to my progress, and I was so shocked by the original fast weight loss I just couldn't help myself. Keep in mind -- I'm STILL on the all liquid diet. Well, the last 6 days, I have lost 0 lbs. ZERO! I' got down to 244.0 lbs, then days later 244.5 lbs and today 245.4 lbs. So technically speaking I've actually gained 0.9 lb. HOW?! Can someone help explain? Is this normal? I'm following all the rules. The only thing I'm not doing anymore is working out since I haven't gotten the clearance, but I can totally go on long hour walks as my "exercise" for now. That's the only plan I have at this moment... My other confusion and worries lie in this: If I'm on the all liquid diet still, and I'm post surgery, IF I haven't lost ANY weight in the past week, I'm already getting nervous/anxious for when I am allowed to eat solid foods (hopefully starting tomorrow) and how maybe I'll gain weight.
  15. Thank you to everyone. I am scheduled this week for our first ultrasound. Hopefully we get to hear the heartbeat and get to see baby. As for my nutritionist I have an appointment this Friday in which I will talk to her and ask if there is anything different I need to be eating. I am currently taking all my vitamins daily plus my prenatal vitamin. I've also been keeping up with my water intake daily as well as follow my health diet including 70g of protein a day. Calorie intake has been at around 1000 calories but I know that the nutritionist wants me to go up to 1200 calories. It's just a little difficult for me at this time as I feel so nauseas at this stage in the pregnancy. Fairlife chocolate protein shake has been a life saver as I can drink that slowly and that covers 30g of protein for my day. I will try to keep everyone updated on my experience. Thank you all once again and happy mother's day to all the lovely moms.
  16. My surgery is coming fast, it was moved up via a cancellation to next week, eek! I’m a combo of fear of the unknown, and calmness of giving it up to the professionals to care for me. I’m over 60 and really never considered I could stop the diet cycle by having WLS. A family member had it, and was happy they did it, this and knowing a few WLS veterans happy with their surgery, spurred me on to do gastric bypass. They had a good recovery with no issues. I’m hoping for a great outcome and that it resolves my Gerd and sleep apnea in time as well. I fear pain, hair loss, complications, how I’ll feel about all that skin, regrets. I look forward to many positive body changes, more energy, onederland, not being obese, cuter clothes 😀 I appreciate everyone sharing here! I’ve learned a lot.

    TMI question 🙋‍♀️

A week. I eventually had to take something to get it moving along. After that, I guess I am one of the 'lucky' ones! I go everyday/every second day and I don't take anything for it.

    Surgery Consult June 3rd

Once you complete all the pre op testing, Its typically very quick but of course some surgeons could be booked out for a while. Once i completed all my pre op testing the surgery was scheduled for i think a 3 weeks later. and only because i had to do a 2 week pre op diet.

    TMI question 🙋‍♀️

I had diarrhea for a few days, then a bout of constipation for about a week and have been regular ever since.
  20. Once I had all my classes and appointments completed, I had my last appointment with the surgeon (to be cleared for surgery) the following week (April 23rd) and I was scheduled for surgery within a month (May 21st). Now, 6 weeks later. No regrets! Good luck to you and your journey.

    my dinner

I’m on week three after surgery and stuck eating runny soups and refried beans! It’s crazy how different the rules are. I can’t wait to eat a plate of food that looks like that. It looks like heaven!

    Weight loss stall

I'm tracking my food. I get about 1000-1200 calories per day. I focus on protein and fluids, as the doctor has recommended. I've taken a couple days to increase the calorie intake to jump start things, but it's fairly difficult to do so. I've increased fiber substantially because of "You know what", so things are better in that area as well. I've also increased the amount of exercise, and have been more active in yard work on top of that. I feel like I destroyed my stomach for no reason now. I simply don't understand why I'm stuck. The doctors said stalls are common and get more calories, but it hasn't worked. Any other person with my body type would melt off calories at 1-1.2k per day with exercise.

    Lab orders without doctor

Why don’t you need lab work done anymore? I’m three years (well will be on Friday) & I still have them done about every three months. I see my surgeon’s colleague In two weeks & I have a blood test scheduled for next week. Don’t know how long this will continue though or if it will become less frequent. Maybe it’s just different surgeons & programs around the world. Have to admit I am pleased I do have them frequently. It’s how we picked up my protein malabsorption issue after my gall removal last year & picked up a seasonal drop in my vitamin D levels in winter (level still ok just something to be aware of). PS - Many blood tests are covered by our public health system (Medicare) in Australia so I haven’t had to pay for any of mine.
  25. You know I've been going though clothes sizes pretty fast. It would be cool if there was a place for bariatric patients to share and swap clothes. Just because we go through sizes so fast. That way we didn't have to buy clothes in a size we only be in for a few weeks or months. Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app
