Nervous about revision
KadieEuropeBound replied to KadieEuropeBound's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@mlbdl I decided at this time to not revision to Gastric Bypass. My gerd started with bad eating and stress. I first needed to work on my eating and stress level. My acid reflux is under control with a PPI. I still have little spikes of acid but I'm down to a Level 1 on a scale 1 to 10. I have been eating extremely slow and chewy my food completely. I cut out coffee and gerd triggered foods. It has helped 100% I am giving myself until June 2020 that would put me at 3 years post op to see if the gerd has improved. For me, diet changes and less stress have helped me. Another surgery, especially the bypass is major. I need to first exhausted all other options before undergoing the Gastric Bypass. Let's stay in touch. I am praying for your surgery and help. -
what are the most common reasons people get their band removed?
SorryNameTaken replied to BQT's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I always had problems with getting stuck, I just dealt with that, but right around the 10 year mark I started getting insane nausea and reflux with projectile vomiting instead of just getting stuck. My band appears to be in place despite these sudden onset of symptoms. Even if something is wrong with mine, they don't make it anymore, so there are no replacement parts and I'd have to get it out. I honestly feel like my quality of life has gone down over the past year, so I'm choosing to revise. That said, there are plenty of people that have had their bands in for well over 10 years and are still doing quite well. The thought is that they should stay in lifelong. I'd be interested in knowing how many revisions are because the band itself aged and failed versus the other symptoms causing people to seek revision. -
Revision from Gastric Sleeve to. ?
New&Improved replied to Fluffymom67's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yeah the surgeon offered the sleeve but I stood firm on my choice and he didn't say NO.. they usually do work with you unless they are not confident on the bypass? My surgeon is one of the best in the country he even goes overseas to teach other surgeons -
Very informative but here In Australia we don't have so many options unless maybe I should try Costco? I'll be having my bypass 2 weeks Monday!

Nervous about revision
mlbdl replied to KadieEuropeBound's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m interested to know what you decided and how you are doing. I’m revising sleeve to bypass in November for GERD. I am aspirating acid into my lungs, so it has to be done. I’m on 2 GERD meds, I eat tums like candy, and 4 allergy meds for allergy symptoms (for instance, coughing up acid into my lungs) that the 2 Bariatric surgeons, ENT, and allergist all have concluded are made worse, if not mostly caused by, the GERD. -
Revision from Gastric Sleeve to. ?
mlbdl replied to Fluffymom67's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m supposed to be having my sleeve revised to a bypass in November due to GERD. I have a hiatial hernia for the 3rd time and the surgeon as well as the 2nd opinion surgeon says not to repair the hernia, just revise to bypass. Evidently my cough is acid aspirating into my lungs, and most of my allergy symptoms are from the acid. This is on top of the regular nasty acid symptoms. I had originally asked for the bypass because I already had GERD and I knew that VSG could make GERD worse or cause it if you don’t have it. The surgeon said that if I had another 100# to lose he’d recommend the bypass but he said I probably have a hernia. He’d fix it, therefore fixing the GERD. So, 3 hernias later, I’m revising to a bypass, and I’m terrified. I’ve been very pleased with my sleeve except for the GERD getting worse. So... 3.5 years later I’m finally getting what I originally asked for, but now I have to go through a 3rd surgery (VSG/hernia; hernia again; now bypass) to do it. I should have just pushed for the bypass at the beginning and I’d be done with it. -
Stricture, TPN, Wound Vac... what next?
Darktowerdream replied to bajankat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can only say I understand. I’m dealing with a lot of issues right now, some related to my gastric bypass surgery some not. I’ve stricture that had two dilation and a lot of pain and nausea. I’ve Dysphasia. I am having a oophorectomy of my remaining ovary Monday along with other procedures depending what they find in regard to endometriosis. But I am losing weight thankfully, albeit slowly right now. I have many medical issues on my plate. Lifelong chronic illness. I know It will be hard until then but at some point your wounds will heal and picc line removed and hopefully you can get back on track and eating better soon. -
February 2019 weight loss buds
Gottajustdoit replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks Sheribear--you look very well proportioned to me! I love your running story. My two sisters are both A size cups and genetically I inherited a way different body shape than the did. I'm not worried about being too small, really. The one thing I thought was funny was when the surgeon said, "I don't think you'll end up being a D, probably much smaller, but you won't look like a man." Um.....that was odd. I didn't assume I'll be a flat as a guy when she was done so when she said "smaller" I'm thinking maybe a B now? I definitely need to research the procedure more, including the pain associated with recovery since you mention it was SUPER painful and, given the bypass, I can't take any NSAIDS. I don't mind pain killers but don't want to take them too long because of the horrific constipation they cause me. Was the pain really that bad? How long did it take for the incisions to heal? Did they itch like mad when they were healing? -
Bypass surgery on 9/24. Lost 17 pounds after 2 weeks. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Pure protein tropical fruit punch clear water was amazing and the best clear liquid I have ever had. I had my original gastric bypass in 2013 along with a hiatel hernia repair And sept 19th I had to go in and have another hiatel hernia repair with a partial gastrectomy . They put me on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks and I remembered the first time around with this and thankfully there has been so many more tasteful products out there to stay clear but get the protein in . I also use unjury unflavored protein in my orange juice .

BarbM replied to PepperCat's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am just getting on to these forums. I just had my revision surgery on 9/26/19. I am interested in your Revision Journey. -
Hi, I'm getting a lap band removed with a RNY revision in November and I was wondering if any of y'all that have had the bypass are vegetarians? What is your "go-to" protein? Thanks!

Butt flap - Anyone have?
SorryNameTaken replied to apiane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YES! I have it and I'm wondering how much worse it will get after my revision. I honestly haven't been doing anything to try to fill it out as of yet, so hopefully someone will have some great tips on exercises. I looked into beach body's Brazilian butt, but never ended up doing it. Youtube probably has some good workouts too. -

Third Revision...
HollyHeight replied to Caela88's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have had this! Lap band to sleeve to Mini Bypass. Whats with all the judgement? Life happens. -
HI All! I dont see many like me here! I had Lap Band in 2005, Sleeve in 2010 and now mini Bypass 30 days ago. My lap band from the start hated me. Pain, vomiting and not really losing anything. So...back I went to have it removed. When they took out the band they had trouble giving me a good sleeve which resulted in limited weight loss. Now, I have the mini. Im confused on review of revision surgeries. I hear they dont work, you wont lose much, you will regret it. However, I am down 30 pounds! Seems like a good start! Any one else been down this road? I would love someone to chat with about it!

This is pretty darn common, which are also the reasons I had mine removed and had a revision. You're right, very few people keep their lap band their entire life without having a revision. The band erodes into the stomach and causes a lot of problems. Regain is also an issue. My doctor said very few doctors will do the band anymore because of all of the side effects. It's just not the best decision for weight loss. It was a huge waste of money. I'm very happy with my revision, and excited for you to also have a better life without the band. Best wishes to you.

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
JRT Mom replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 65 and I'm getting a 10 year old failed lap band revised to a RNY in November. I was worried about my age but my doctor isn't too concerned about it other than having me get a cardiac clearance done in addition to the medical one. -
Conversion from lapband to sleeve - lower BMI
JRT Mom replied to Stella84's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think it is ridiculous that if you need to have a revision to a bariatric procedure from a failed initial one that you have to wait to regain all your weight before you can get another! If you met the criteria for the first procedure and had surgery and now need another the insurance company should be satified that the patient is still a candidate. Most of us had our first surgery because of health considerations and to expect us to regain all that weight to have the revision surgery is unhealthy and a waste (waist!) of time. I have to have a lap band removed and fortunately (or unfortunately) I have already regained enough weight and have two new comorbidities so I don't have to gain even more to get my revision. -
I've had a lap band for 10 years. All went well for the first 7. Now I have NO fill in it and still get food stuck in it constantly and can only eat what my doctor calls "squishy" food, so my weight is creeping back on because those are the higher calorie less nutritious food. So because of the constant sliming and vomiting I am having the lap band removed in November with a revision to a bypass and I can't wait! Evidently about 30% of people with lap bands over 10 years old have problems with them and many doctors will no longer do them.

I’m trying to rally round some more specific support for people that are Sleeve to RNY (either pre or post op RNY). Not sure the best way to do this. I did create a group.... anyone interested? It’s called “Revision Journey.” Anyone interested?

Third Revision...
ProudGrammy replied to Caela88's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@Caela88 yes, i knew someone she had the lapband for a few years - erosion, then sleeve - heartburn - revision to RNY haven't seen her in quite awhile - hopefully all is well. i don't know how often this happens, but for the above reasons it's sad, but understandable is a 3rd revision in your future? hope all goes well whatever you do☺️ good luck kathy -

Tricare’s website doesn’t list revisions as a covered service but it doesn’t....NOT say that. It just has “unlisted procedure” as a non covered. If you pick a DS procedure instead of another rny it may pay. Definitely call Tricare and see what they can do for you. 🤞🤞
