Lucky #7 are still going strong !!!

Good Morning Gang... Read last nite when I came to turn the computer off - but needed to get to bed.. Ended up eating popcorn & greek yogurt (w/cream cheese) for dinner - that's all I wanted ;0) - so that's what I ate.. Phyl - I would say we walked for about 3 hrs - you did really well - that was the most that you had walked at the outlets since we have been going - I thought you did VERY well ;0).. What will the pain doc do - Hugs about the back issues - its sure a bitch getting old isn't it - we have all this stuff we want to do - and our stupid bodies are deteriorating My wrist is 7 I think - that's the size bracelets I order ;0) and they are lose - but that's how I like to wear them.. Karla - You are to sweet - We love you .. Yep extended time w/family - Talked to Joseph last night - Kaitlin cleaned up did homework -but he says Melissa is mad at everyone - when she got home the other night she didn't talk to Kaitlin at all.. Didn't deal w/the situation - I think she's depressed - She acted that way when I was up there- she'a always been on the grouchy side (negative) I know that my DS isn't the easiest person to live with - the problem is they are all lazy imho - Joseph says he's staying in Mexico when we go ;0) - he's not coming back lol.. I think her weight (close to 280ish) is dragging her down - then the out of control family - she was on antidepressants a while ago - don't know if she still is.. Well that's their life - I can't do a darn thing about it - but am telling you - I will be on the beach ignoring them if they are too depressing.. Candice - Proud of you for sticking to it !!!

    January 2012 Sleevers!

I'm doing pretty well. Down 44lbs and starting to comfortably get into my next size down clothes. I'm wearing a dress today I haven't worn for at least 4 years. I'm not going to bother shopping until I drop a few more sizes. I have enough clothes through size 14. I've been a total slacker when it comes to exercise! Baaaad girl. I need to get my fanny back on the treadmill and dug up my five factor fitness book that has a six day exercise program included. It's pretty simple- three exercises per day in addition to cardio. I need to get inspried! My giggly belly and arms should be enough to inspire me... Not drinking with my food is sooo hard and getting in all the Vitamins and meds - I feel like I need a schedule: 7am- thyroid, 7:15-7:30 - coffee, 7:45 - yogurt, 8:15 - start drinking a 20 oz drink, 8:45 - actigall #1 for the day. I can't keep track half the time! I've had some moody days too - days when I just want to crawl up and read all day. Thank goodness my mom takes my son quite often on Saturday so I get a day to just be alone. Overall, doing pretty well and very happy I made this choice for myself. Best thing I've done other than have my son and have lasic surgery! =)

    Looking for July Sleevers!

Hiya everyone! I am also 4-5 days out and I have to agree that the pain isn't as bad as I expected it to be. Just a bit a soreness and tightness when I try to use those stomach muscles. I have learned a few things though - Don't try to take a sip of something and then lay down.... No sleeping on my side for a bit.... Only take very small sips (even if you are feeling soooo thirsty).... I can't wear a bra right now (I have an incision right between my boobs).... I think the nurses like to play scavenger hunt with the tape left over (I'm still finding places)... Catheters SUCK!! I am drinking my day away with sips of Crystal Light, decaf coffee w/drop of Almond Milk, Protein Shakes, broth, yogurt (SF) and SF hard candy. I am craving eggs, chicken and every other freaking food commercial on TV....Is this our punishment?

    Looking for July Sleevers!

@nursecruz73 That is SO exciting. Wow! I would check with your doc's office and make sure they don't want you to have protein shakes sometimes. My surgeon recommends that I have 3 protein shakes per day, plus unlimited broth, sf jello, sf popsicles and greek yogurt. Two weeks on all liquids!!! Yikes!

    June Post Ops!

My surgery was June 3rd and everything went extremely well all the nurses knew who I was, I was walking at all times of the day and night... The liquid diet was not too bad I am actually on the puréed foods right now and I am scared to branch out! My dr said I can have scrambled egg whites and that did not go well I got extremely nauseous and I absolutely hate that feeling.... I am now rated Greek yogurt has so much Protein unsweetened applesauce and all I can drink is Water if I drink anything else my stomach feels weird... I am very happy and grateful for this surgery but I am just in need of support I am so uncomfortable since my pain meds are done I can't sleep I am going through crying spells and I am just soooo frustrated Help

    Any May 2014 sleevers?

My wife and I both got sleeved on 5/29 with Dr. Garcia in Tijuana. We have both lost around 30lbs. We are able to eat almost anything except dense meats (pork chops/steak/dry chicken). But we mostly eat greek yogurt/grilled chix breast/protein shakes. Neither of us can eat more than a cup of food at a time, usually half a cup or less. We are going to start our gym membership next week.
  15. Hi everyone---once again, thank you more than I know how to say for the continued prayers for my family and my little Kinsey in particular. It seems that is was just an everyday gastro intestinal virus that was especially vicious, and contagious, as it has now taken 4 generations of us (my Mom is now sick) down in less than a week. No one else who was at the anniversary has been ill, so thankfully I did not poison everyone. Most of us have been hit hard, and recovered about as quickly, not so with Kinsey. Her case has left her with issues in the colon. Her colon is inflamed, and non reactive. It is not allowing food to enter, so there is no absorption taking place. She is failing, bit by bit, and they have continued to tell us to wait it out. Today, they finally decided maybe that isn't working---and we had a surgical consult. He sent off yet more specimans for culture....and if it warrants it, we will be flying her to either Albuquerque to the University Hospital, or to Denver to the Children's hospital, depending on what type of issue they think we are dealing with. They have downgraded her condition to critical. She bounces from sleeping, which we found out was caused by her blood sugar being below 40! To being so irritable as to not be recognizable--a screaming raging child....to one sobbing for food. It absolutely has broken my heart into a million, million pieces. She tells us point blank she is hungry, and asks for any and all kind of food she can think of...with giant tears in her big blue eyes....then she just goes limp, with the look of total dejection. She is 2, she does not understand why we keep letting them poke her, why we will not feed her....why we don't help her when she tells us her tummy hurts. She begs, Please Granny. And repeats "no pokes, no needles, please" everytime someone new enters the room. Add to this heartache (and it is TRUE heart ACHE), my DD's ex, Kinsey's father, is there trying as usual to be the funny man---and his mother an OR nurse at the hospital we are in, going behind everyones backs and putting down Dr.s and nurses, and questioning them and ultimately pissing them off--- and causing problems....I do not know which way to turn. The ex, and his Mom were arguing with my DD about whether the Dr. might want to run a blood test that might tell them about a disease that my DD's grandma on her Dads side had called Celiac Disease. The nurse dislikes the former MIL anyway, so ordered everyone except the 2 who have been staying the night with Kinsey out of the ward. Now this being said....the arguement was not loud, it was out of the room, and Kinsey is the ONLY patient in Peds. She saw it as a chance to get rid of Renee (former MIL) and did it. So we all were banished. My DD was there with her bf/fiance....they had not had a chance to eat...well we are fighting to get DD to eat, she refuses until her baby can eat....it is more than I know how to handle. Rick waited until shift change, and took some dinner to the hospital, and they were going to take turns going to the waiting room---I just don't think my DD is eating at all either---I keep telling her Kinsey needs her strong. It is very hard to put anything in your mouth knowing she is begging for the same. There were 3 nurses on the floor today, with Kinsey the only patient. At one point, she had a blow out---we had her in a diaper, due to this happening...but she went through the diaper, all over the bed, all over her Mama, her gown, the whole 9 yards. I sent my DD to change, and I proceeded to clean Kinsey up after telling the nurse. They were each on a computer comparing prices of the new Harry Potter book. I got Kinsey cleaned up, walked her out to the hall, found her a new gown in the shelf, took her in and dressed her. By then her Mama was back, and she sat down and held her, while I stripped the bed. I went walking out into the hall with this wad of smelly sheets and ask what they wanted me to do with them, she POINTED to a soiled linens hamper thing. Then she got up, walked to a closet, and handed me linens for the bed! They did not come in and disinfect the mattress----nor did she make the bed! I did. Our baby needed to lay down. They come in 2 times today and did vitals----nothing else. She is still casted, it was due to come off today, the nurse never mentioned to the Dr, we needed a ortho consult until after office hours---now she is stuck until Monday. They did not offer to help bathe her----NOTHING!!! Changed one bag of IV fluids....took 2 sets of vitals.....and surfed the net all day. Now this is the first day for this set of nurses....all of the other shifts, and sets of nurses we have had, have went out of their way to make us comfy, and help our little one in any way---today they were absolutely worthless. Tomorrow I intend on finding out who the nursing supervisor is, and filing a complaint. I have no way to make our baby better.....and I have emotions pent up that those worthless women know nothing about----but are fixing to find out about! While I am there seeing the supervisor or charge nurse or whoever....I will also mention, that we had Kinsey in a wagon pulling her around and around and around the 3rd floor......anythnig but her room, she was so tired of her room....and on one of our turns we passed the ICU entrance. There was a male nurse there Julian, who teased her every time she passed, he would hand her a new crayon.....then a piece of paper....and finally a stuffed doll (out of one of the claw grabber kind of machines it seems). She was so listless, but she would spark a little knowing we were coming up to where he was....he helped our day immensley....I will commend him, as I do my best to take the others down. Amanda said he even come by to tell her to get well, he was going on his 4 days off, and he hoped she was home and well before he come back to work. Her nurse.....never even walked into the room before she left. Thank you all for listening once again---all these things are boiling inside me. I am scared to death for Kinsey. Latching onto the anger I can control. The plan as it stands now is to begin introducing good bacteria into the system tomorrow...similar to what is found in yogurt. IF the tests do not show a total shut down. If they show a total failure, we are off to a bigger hospital for surgery. She has lost weight, she is under 17 pounds now. She doesn't show it much because she is really swollen from all of the IV fluids. They are also watching her blood sugars every 3 hours (which is just another poke----and was NOT done on schedule today), and adjusting the glucose in her IV. They finally gave her some Pepcid type of stuff in her IV for the acid in her stomach, since nothing is passing normally. She has complained less of her tummy hurting with that. And that is all----we wait now....and wait....and wait....and wait. I have my lap top, and I have connection. I just cannot sit in her room with these tears streaming down my face. You guys are my release in so many ways....thank you so much. I will let you know something as soon as I can. Please continue the prayers. Rick has avoided the vomiting....we got him some Kaitrel or something like that....so he is hanging tough. Being right there holding her like her Papa always does. Hugs to you all! Sounds like the food issues continue---I promise you girls---it gets easier, it becomes normal dare I say? Kat
  16. Hi, I'm Suzanne. I had my surgery the 24th. When the new day nurse came in on the 25th, she smelled like garlic and onions...which I used to adore...but. yuck! It was horrid. Then at home my husband got into bed and was reeking of garlic, onions, toothpaste and God knows what else. And the dog....smelled like kibble. Ugh. This is a superpower side effect. Wondering how long it is going to last... I haven't come close to getting my liquids, protien or Vitamins in but I'm hoping today will be the day! Swelling is going down, incisions are healing nicely and I can lay on my stomach now. I am on full liquids but just added "real" food yesterday (only Water, and a couple bites of Jello wed and thurs) Yesterday I tried some herbal tea (fantastic!), watery cream of wheat (yummy), cream of chicken soup spiked with Protein powder, and triple zero Greek yogurt. Only managed a few bites of each but they were all wonderful taste sensations! I have not weighed myself yet. Today's goals...liquids, protein, walking. And measurements. I need to take measurements! Good luck to all! Our journey has begun! Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App

    May 2007 Banders

Lana and Grandma, Thanks for the wonderfully supportive words. They mean so much to me. Apparently, band slippages feel different for everyone. Mine was a couple of days of pain under my left rib cage. I thought I had pulled a muscle or something because I could still eat with no PBing. That started Tuesday, and each subsequent day the pain was less. Friday evening, I went to the store and while walking around, I had this intense, crampy pain all across my abdomen and I was feeling very bloated. Again, I passed it off as 'maybe I'm just stuck from lunch.' When I got in the car, the pain completely went away. Went home, had supper with no problem. At 11:30 pm, just when I was getting ready for bed, the same discomfort came over me. I couldn't really lay on my back, side or stomach for very long. Standing provided a bit of relief, kneeling on the floor with my head also on the floor helped a bit. I was starting to think kidney stones, but the pain wasn't sharp and acute as I remember my Dad having during his bout with kidney stones. Anyway, after 5 hours of this (yea, I'm a glutton for it!), I called a friend to take me to the ER. The CT scan showed a distended stomach above the band. Someone from my surgeon's office came in and completely unfilled me (after 6 pokes and some wiggling - don't get me started!). The unfill and some Dilaudid really made me feel better. I don't have pain now and am going for an Upper GI on Thursday morning, seeing surgeon in pm. I do exercise. But I am always hungry. And it's not boredom, depression, etc. I never feel satiated. I can eat some fish, almost no chicken, no pork, no beef unless it's ground (but not burgers). eggs are hit or miss. Beans work, but good God, how many can a person eat?! I can only eat 1/2 container of yogurt in the morning, lunch is usually a salad and by dinner, I'm famished and I can eat well more than 1 cup's worth of food. I work a job where I cannot stop to eat 6 small meals. And, as I mentioned, the foods that would satisfy me just won't stay down - no matter how much chewing I do. So, I end up eating around the band. I've only had 1.5ccs in the band, so I certainly am not too tight. None of this is to excuse myself or my shortcomings. I certainly feel much, much, much better than I did when I was 305 lbs (I'm now 245), but I hoped for so much more. I'll never be skinny and frankly, I don't want to be, but I would like to be under 200 lbs. I'm 48 years old and am beginning to feel I will never achieve this goal. My anger and frustration at myself has really been the major hindrance to my success. For the first time in my life, I feel like a loser, and not the kind of loser I want to be!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Chica - that may well be the case, but I just SO don't feel like eating in the AM. I'm actually following the example of my doctor. He himself was banded at 310 lbs, and has been stable at 210 for the last 4 years. He doesn't have anything other than coffee in the AM. That said, there's all sorts of information about the importance of Breakfast, and I know I *should* have something. I just, uh, SO don't feel like it! I guess, since your MD is so all-fired-up about it, I'll try having a swig or two of yogurt smoothy in the mornings, see how I feel about it during the course of the day. Kerri - which iSopure are you talking about? The clear iSopure pre-made ZeroCarb beverages taste no worse than most sports drinks, but have the huge advantage of containing 40 g of Protein. More importantly, the iSopure are thin, whereas the Slimfast Optima contain 10 g, and are thick as mud. I found it so much easier to drink the iSopure than the Slimfast. Again, in the short run - in the first three or four days post-op, I don't think it's a huge deal - but your aim should be to get as much protein in as you can, so the more of that iSopure you can get down, the better. And if you're active, it shouldn't be too hard to get down a bottle or two of the iSopure along with your Slimfast. You're up for probably 16 hours a day! Even if you're hitting only a sip or two of iSopure an hour, you'll make great progress with your protein intake! Anyway, I suspect that the point is moot, since my bet would be that you're going to be feeling a lot better today, and will be moving around and naturally increase your intake without even thinking about it.

    February '09 bandsters?

I had my surgery on the 24th and i'm feeling pretty good. The only incision that hurt was the port site but even that one is tolerable now. I'm supposed to stay on liquids for 2 weeks post op. I noticed some of you guys were allowed mashed potatoes or yogurt on your post op diets. How have you tolerated that. I'm starving and don't wanna screw up and go nuts eating crap cuz I'm so hungry . I'm so sick of liquids a yogurt would seem like a steak right now!

Got a goooood fill yesterday. I now have 8.5 in my 10cc band. Today I had a 4oz Activia yogurt for lunch and after approx 3oz of it I was full. Took me 3 hours to drink my 12oz protein shake this morning. :cursing: I'm excited!! I really want this fill to be the MAGICAL one for me like the fill I had in Sept that worked good for 3 months!! Lol. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

    June 2006 Band Crew

Hi everyone, I am home! I am 4 days post op and feeling Great. My Dr has me on a complete clear liquid diet for 7 days. I'm not even hungry. I have been drinking, water, Propel (for vitamins etc,) broth, and now that I am home some SF jello and SF popcicles. I finally lost 2 lbs. I think it is because I retained water after surgery. With being in the car for 8 hrs straight 2 days in a row and in hot weather (up to 112) and just what surgery can do to you, my body has just been in shock. On day 8 I can add 3, 1/2 cup servings of LF yogurt, with no chunks. Then on day 10 I add protein drinks, at least 30g. Then starting day 22 SOLIDS, and NO more protein drinks ever. Of course with this I am supposed to be taking my vitamins, walking and always staying hydrated. So far this has been easy. I was also told NEVER to drink anything carbonated as this can cause the band to slip. Was anyone afraid to take the first bite of solid food? I have absolutely no restriction when it comes to drinkink clear liquids so I don't know if I have much restriction at all. Leila, thank you so much for reminding us that all those little calories add up, and that the band is a tool, not a guarantee to weight loss. Barbara, thank you again for keeping us posted with those being banded each week! You are awesome! Congrats to all those being banded this week! We have such an awesome support group here. Please don't leave just because you are banded...stay and share and continue to support. We all have a long journey ahead of us!

    Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Hi Pnw. Welcome! Breakfast (though high in carbs) - I usually have grits and 2% cheese. This morning I had an egg and once slice of bacon. When it is cooler, I'll have oatmeal (I just like it better in the winter). Lunch: Varies. Sometimes baked potato, grilled chicken, Soup, or chicken salad. Thursday is my weigh in day. I always have Mexican on that day (usually my only eating out lunch). I usually bring my lunch to work with me. Dinner: I usually eat what the family eats - just a smaller portion. I normally have a snack about 4:00. Yogurt, Protein Bar, Protein Drink. It helps me get ready for my workout in the evenings. I drink water most of the time. If I want Flavor I'll add a crystal lite single to my water. Usually do that a couple times a week. At night I have a glass of milk normally after dinner.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Jennifer - I lost 10lbs right after my fill and gained it all back at TOM and now right back to 218 again 4 days after. I myself feel like I just got a fill - i had a small yogurt with fiberone cereal in it and I'm so very full. I can't do 1400 cals, but I think I am doing better with the variety. at least I'm regular again, thank goodness for that! What every works, my next mini goal is 215 so I only have 3lbs to get there - I can do that!!!! Judy - Once again, you are amazing and such an inspiration!

Thanks everyone! It's good to hear the different experiences we are having. I feel so prepared with the band because of reading this forum. Bigbaby....you'll do great with Dr. B. I was only on the table for 25 minutes....that's how long it takes him to do the procedure. The nursing staff is fantastic and they take excellent care of their patients. I'm on liquids for 2 weeks, but can also have yogurt, pudding, jello and applesauce. I did have some jello last night (surgery day) and it really tasted good. I ate it cold right out of the fridge...the pudding too. My tummy is very tight feeling and I'm in some pain when I get to moving around. As I'm sitting here typing, I can hear my stomach grumbling, but I'm not hungry at all. Keep up the good work everyone!
