1. I've not had a revised sleeve, but I revised from lap band to sleeve. Full disclosure, I went several years in between surgeries. BUT, I can say with experience that the weight loss was (and continues to be) slower to come off the 2nd time around. Another case in point: a friend of mine who also converted from lap band to sleeve lost a total of 6 pounds in her first 2 months! Be patient. Stay the course and it will happen.

my personal little official thread

Just got done pre-op! My plastic surgeon is so thrilled with my weight loss and working out. He said it has made his job a lot easier. It is likely he won't need to suture my muscles very much because I have a strong core. He also said since I have virtually no fat on my abdomen, which is rare for a bypass patient, that it's doubtful I will need much, if any, lipo of my flanks and it should be a super easy recovery for me since it's basically ALL skin and nothing else. Having no fat makes the moving of your belly button a lot simpler and less prone to complication. I am stoookkkeeddd. I've lost 10lbs since I first consulted with him and he noticed immediately. Gosh so sorry to be MIA! I continue to be so inspired by each one of you and this thread always brings a smile to my face, no matter how difficult the day may be!!! You all look GORGEOUS!!!! And love the fashion inspiration! Took some pics for a meeting last week. Here's the latest. 20.5mo PO RNY. 130.2lbs Maintenance. My body may have decided to defend a lower set point rather than the 135lbs that I thought it was happy at. I have lost and gained the same 2-5lbs from 130-135lbs for a while now. Just last week I briefly saw 129lbs. Now after a big weekend of fun and frivolity, I came back at only 130.2lbs--which means I may be 2lbs lighter by Friday. I'm not hatin' on that--honestly. I have wanted to reach my super triple top secret BDG Goal since I started this process. But when it didn't look like I would ever hit my 130lbs goal, I kinda released that into the ether and called maintenance at 135lbs revised goal. Then I hit 130lbs and revised the revised goal back to 130lbs. But now it looks as if I might actually make 125lbs (super triple top secret Barbie Dream Girl Goal). I'm pretty thrilled at this weight and I love how I look in clothes these days (or at least I'm moving in that direction). My gigantor turkey thighs are slightly less pronounced now. And I asked Mr. F. if he thought I looked too thin or sickly. He said that I didn't. He's very honest and objective, so I know I can go to him as a touchstone with reality. I bought 3 pairs of size 8 skinny jeans from goodwill this weekend. And I'm actually in between a 6 and an 8--oddly so. The legs fit, but the the little bit of belleh skin doesn't let me fasten them. Wah. Oh well. I saw my plastics dude last Friday. A bit of a buzz kill. He told me my insurance wouldn't cover the saggy droopy booty, even though it was giving me significant issues. He did say that I have very very little excess fat on my body - as he was looking at me totes nekkidy and that he didn't want me to lose any more. Of course I lied and said, "Swearsies! I'm not plannin' on it!" (wink wink nudge nudge saynomore...) He still says that I need to wait on my capular contractures in the reconstructed foobs. But he wants me to consider getting nerp tats so I look more like a real gingerbread girl--and less like a Skipper Doll (Barbie's younger annoying kid sister--anotomically incorrect and lacking a kung fu grip). Still chewing on that one. Don't know what to do with that information yet. Sorry for the book!!!

October 2019 surgery peeps?

I had my surgery 10/24 and went back to work 10/31. My surgery was a bit more complicated than anticipated. I was a revision and they didn't think my band had slipped, but it had and it was very difficult for them to remove. I have had some problems with my heart rate shooting really high just from walking a short distance. I feel like it's slowly trying to get better, so I'm just taking that one day at a time. I have another appointment on Wednesday to see if any answers can be found. Other than that, everything has gone great and I'm essentially pain free minus where I had a drain after surgery. I did buy a decent bit of protein powder to have after surgery and now I only like one of the flavors.. I knew that would happen, but it's still a bit of a bummer. 🤣

🍂 Nov 2019 Challenge🍂

This sounds like fun. 1. I would like to lose 8lbs. 2. I had a gastric bypass years ago. Lost 150 lbs. Regained 70 lbs. Lost 25lbs over a two year period. 3. Weight 250 lbs. 4. What memory am I grateful for? Hmmmm I am grateful for the memory of my dad since he passed away.
6. This is not from my personal experience (I've never had a revision), but I've read the weight loss is a lot slower the second time around.

Fkn up Already - 1 week post op

I'm in the US and it was crazy hard to get approved from the dr. I had to meet all criteria and get approved from psych etc. I'm sure not all dr's are legit and I know a lot of Americans go to Mexico to bypass all the necessary work and have it done. Not a great idea.

Changing Habits Prior to Surgery

First off - hello, fellow Wisconsinite! *waves* OK, on to the real advice :-) I can't really speak to long-term success yet, since I'm only about 5 months out from my surgery, but some of the best advice I've gotten came from a friend who had gastric bypass and gained it all back... he said that he tried too hard to be perfect, and that's what got him. It's taught me to embrace my imperfection and look at each day, sometimes each moment, as a clean slate. Just because I sneak some fun size candies from the dish at work doesn't mean this is who I am now. It means I made that choice once, and the next meals I have I can choose to be healthier. Self-forgiveness has been an incredible tool for me. I'll also say that the gastric bypass has been an amazing tool for me. I literally can't fit in very much, and I experience just enough distress from eating certain things that it generally dissuades me from wanting to have them. As someone who also loves sweets and sugar, I find most of the time I pass on them now just because more than a couple of bites can make me feel miserable. Anyway, sorry this is so long, but I hope some of this helps!
9. Name Some Thing You Wish You Would of Brought for Your Stay Over Night In The Hospital? I am having the Gastric Bypass in December. Is the Anything You Recommend I take for my over night stay?
10. I had the band in 2010, revision to sleeve in 2014 due to major band slip (couldn’t even drink water with empty band), and now having acid reflux and weight gain following a hysterectomy in 2016 and looking for options to revise again. Anyone else have a similar situation and any success with insurance approval?
11. I had no clue sleeve was more popular than RNY. I hadn't even heard of sleeve prior to my first consult. "gastric bypass" seemed to be a common term. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
12. I think it's just where the make the bypass even longer for greater weight loss

MY SURGERY AND HOSPITAL STORY :)

I was born with kidney issues so they wanted to be sure my meds would work so made me stay the weekend... I was ready to go Friday lol Its weird like I feel when I take medication and the pills go down but I can drink a lot of fluids maybe a 600ml bottle every couple hours... I've always drank a lot due to my kidneys and this is only half as much as normal unlike some ppl talking about struggling to drink 1 bottle a day??? I still take smaller drinks per mouthful but not like I expected only to take 100ml(4oz) an hour...? I'm always thirsty and I'm still on liquids so have my shakes plus I carry bottle of water with me to drink.. It might be due to my surgeon doing slightly larger stomach before the bypass? **Sorry TMI but my first poos were greeeny black lol**

Third Revision...

I never had a sleeve after the band but was converted to MBG (that was a stretch as well regarding the reflux but there were reasons MGB was chosen over RNY in consent). Talk to a surgeon about revision because of the reflux. Weight loss could be significant but doesn't has to be.

3rd times a charm!

I’m looking Into the same thing now. Band in 2010, sleeve in 2014, and now another revision to ??? Due to acid reflux and weight gain post hysterectomy. Any recommendations regarding the next surgery choice and insurance approval based on your experience?
16. On my invoice, the procedure is just called BRACHIOPLASTY. The side boob skin removal is not considered part of the arm lift/brachioplasty with my surgeon. It is part of a separate procedure invoiced as BILATERAL BREAST REDUCTION REVISION, which is basically a breast lift with auxiliary breast removal from flanks. My doc is awesome as he is charging me with a revision instead of a first time breast lift (which really is what I am getting but is about 5K less expensive) as I had a breast reduction several years ago, and he is already going to be there doing the arm lift anyway. With that said however, I did speak to another surgeon (who I didn't end up going with) who combined the arm lift and auxiliary breast removal (without breast lift) and he called it BILATERAL ARM LIFT WITH CHEST WALL EXTENSION. He wanted to do it as one continuous incision. Edited to add: Neither my surgeon nor the other fella I mentioned above post patient photos on their websites (I had to go in for appointments to look at their patient results books)

Third Revision...

I’m looking into the same thing as the OP. Band in 2010, revision to Sleeve in 2014 due to band slip resulting in the inability to even drink water, and now looking for another option due to acid reflux and regain after a hysterectomy in 2016. I never felt restriction with the sleeve and didn’t lose much after the sleeve and now am half way back to where I started on my WL journey. I’m going to call my WL surgeon to make an appointment to see what my options are at this point and to see what is needed for insurance to pay. If anyone else with a similar experience has any words of wisdom to share that would be greatly appreciated.
18. Ok people just left hospital after 7 days!! LAPROSCOPIC ROUX EN Y BYPASS So I'll see how good my memory is.. I got to hospital Monday 10-28 at 10am waited a few hours to see surgeon had low blood sugar so had to wait longer finally got in around 3pm. Woke up around 6pm so bloody sore like you have no idea.. My stomach was so big and tight and holes in my belly plus the drain.. Was on IV from day one with fluids and then had fentanyl pumped into me every few hours to keep the pain down.. First 24hrs slept off and on so much every time I woke I was sore got more drugs to help me sleep so was pretty out of it for the first 48hrs.. I'm not sure if it was normal or I'm a sook lol.. After 3 days finally got the drain line out and had shower and felt much better but still pretty sore getting in and out of bed.. Blood tests and blood pressure and sugar check every few hours the first few days.. Wouldn't let me sleep much lol Started walking the halls after I think day 4 and on fluids everyday just broth and water and optifast nothing else.. The hospital staff were so nice and accommodating though every time i needed I pressed the button they were there.. Was still a little sore and bloated for the first 4 days but started going number 2 by then and farting more to let out the gas and air.. But everything is just liquids still so haven't felt anything going In or out except a few pills I take or if I drink too quickly... Gotta learn to slow down Been on chewable multivitamin since few days and been drinking plenty of water so that's been good and having my shakes but only half size shakes now.. Um I'm trying to think of anything else to help others going for surgery.. MY SURGEON chooses to make pouch a little bigger than regular which he says much easier to adjust and get used to not so restricted but still enough to make an impact Been feeling good last couple of days but still a little tired here and there just gotta keep water up and protein up don't feel worried if drinking too much Your body needs it to recover and heal I'm finally on my way home miss my own bed and feeling hopeful for the future definitely!!!!! thank you everyone!!!!
19. I was scheduled for October 30 but have been moved to the first of the year. I have to say I am scared and nervous, but I know it is the best for my health. I am getting the Roux-en-Y Gastric bypass which I hope will give me forever better health. I was wondering if anyone has had good feedback about the vitamin patches.
20. Hello! I'm so glad you posted. I will be having my revision VSG to Loop DS surgery with Dr. Medlin next month. How did it go for you? How is everything going now? How was flying? Thanks for any info/tips!

Reflux 11 Days Post Op

What surgery did you have? I had reflux for many years before I had a revision in Sept. What I did was not eat after 7 pm (this one will depend on when you go to bed) elevate your mattress or prop yourself up on many pillows. Avoid spicey foods and all that jazz. Do call your surgeons office and they may up your Omeprazole dosage. I was taking 40 mg every morning. Hope you feel better soon!
