Hey everyone, so I know that hair thinning is very normal (some even say inevitable) around 3-9 months post-op. However, I am already shedding hair more than normal. I asked my surgeons office and they said that tends to happen and to start taking Biotin. Im kinda freakin out here. I haven't heard anyone say they started hair thinning at two weeks post-op. I also asked about getting blood work done but they said they will not do that until 3 months post-op. Has anyone else experienced hair thinning or higher rates of shedding at only 2 weeks? Any suggestions? Any comforting word? P.S. Please understand that I have textured hair and Im mixed with African American. My hair is a part of my identity and I knew that I would have thinning after this surgery but I didnt expect it to happen so soon.

Ok I have only shed some hair, I'm 2 months post op, and I have notice my hair feels dry and coarse? Also my skin always itches and I think it's because of dry skin ? Anybody else? Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi all, I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis/Hypothyroidism. Growing up I had hair that could be considered fine, but it was pretty full. I wouldn't say it was thick just average. When I began gaining weight in college I noticed my hair started to thin out. I have noticed it steadily getting thinner and thinner much to my dismay. I have tried shampoos and vitamins, but I believe the weight and hormonal issues are the cause. I've read about hair thinning after anesthesia 3 months post-op. It seems like people have had different experiences with re-growth. My question is, has anyone experienced hair re-growth long term after losing a significant amount of weight when their hair was thinning pre-op?

I had surgery March 27,2019. I didn’t experience a lot of hair loss I noticed there was a little more when I would wash my hair but nbd. Now I’m 8months out(approx not to sure exactly didn’t wanna do the exact math) and my hair is noticeably thinner I eat and drink my daily protein and take all my vitamins everyday. So I don’t know why I’m now loosing hair. Has anyone found anything that helped hair loss? Any products or shampoo/conditioner sets to help regrow/lengthen/thicken hair? Any help is appreciated. First photo is when I was 300+lbs second was yesterday. It looks worse in person the photo doesn’t really do it justice.

Nutrafol - Hair Growth Vitamin w/ Saw Palmetto

Has anyone tried Nutrafol hair vitamins after getting the sleeve? I received a list of medications not to take 2 weeks before my sleeve which included Saw Palmetto in it because I guess it can cause bleeding? It was listed in the same category as Advil and Aspirin. I'm just wondering if anyone has taken these post surgery and seeing any results. My dietician wasn't sure so I don't know if it was just not to be taken before surgery but okay after. -

So I've been "shedding" hair for a while. Now I wonder if it's because I'm not getting enough protein in my diet. Has anyone had hair grow back once the proper amount of protein is reestablished? It's one of the things I'm most concerned about with the WLS - losing even more hair. Any and all comments and advice are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I had RNY on Feb 5, 2019. My hair loss started mid May and ended about mid July. I already had thin, fine hair to begin with so the loss was very noticeable (to me at least). Now here I am in October, 80 pounds down, and my hair is growing back! The pictures are of my bangs because it’s so noticeable there, but I have inch long hair all over my head. It makes my cowlick more obvious so I’ve been wearing a lot of ponytails to try to control it. My hair looks pretty awful with the little hairs standing straight up all over, but I’m thrilled it’s growing!

I actually have really thick hair, but for the last few weeks I have had a ton of hair coming out. I'm to the point I may wash my hair twice a week now and avoid brushing my hair a ton just because of how much is falling out. I'm now almost 4 months out as well with 82lb down. I started to lose a lot at month 4. Now at month 6 it doesn't seem to have slowed. I know a lot of people on here say it's not noticeable to others etc. I have thin hair to begin with and its very noticeable. I tried a few sprays but they appear too dark. I am going to try the next shade up. I also might buy the brand Toppik. I might be able to try and flip my part but I am starting to freak out a little. When does it slow down? When does it start to grow back. I have been my multivitamin which has Biotin, getting my protein etc. I am going to start extra biotin and have already been using Nioxin. I am afraid to try clip in hair that it would damage the hair I still have left. -

I am starting to panic i have always had thick hair....any tips or treatments to curb this would be wonderful. Needing more protein 6 months out to help with maintence and hair loss

So my MD had a goal of only 60g of protein but I think I am loosing too quickly and want to increase it to hopefully stop this hair loss that I am freaking out about. I do a 30g premier shake every day then have an egg, lunch meat, tuna etc. It's just volume is an issue. I can only eat 1 egg in 15-20 min but nothing else for an hour at least. At dinner a 2oz piece of meat (ground beef chicken anything) and I am stuffed. I get in maybe a half cup of fruit or veggies during the day just to get some fiber in. I feel like I shouldn't push the volume up but I also feel like I am spending the entire day thinking about trying to get more food in small amounts all day to try and get 800 calories (trying to maintain current weight) and 60-70g protein. Ugh. I have had no stalls and still lose 2 pounds/week. I am now at a normal BMI and it's; not slowing down. I don't want to lose more. I never thought I would have that issue. I am trying to tell myself I can still lose another 10-15 pounds and that I will probably gain 10 pounds once my body settles anyway. -
Hey everyone, I'm 6 months pre-op and I am just wondering how peoples experiences has been with hair loss due to the rapid weight loss? I've heard of people having to wear wigs afterwards? I have PCOS so hair loss is already an issue Is there anything you can do to minimise it? I've stopped dyeing my hair to minimise unnecessary damage.

My hair is falling out in a handfuls. I hadn't been getting in even close to all my protein until about 2 weeks ago. I figured out a protein shake that has about 55 grams now and I started on biotene about 1.5 weeks ago. I just need to tell someone who cares or understands my anguish about going bald my hair is literally coming out in clumps, strands falling out when the wind blows. This is effing devastating. I get 100gms of protein. I drink 80 oz or more of water. I take ALL supplements and NEVER miss. And I **** you not I am literally looking at wigs. I can't even breathe.

Hi Everyone, I'm about 6 months out of surgery. I lost around 86 pounds from my heaviest weight. However, recently I've experience bad adult acne and really dry brittle hair. Does any one have any recommendations for these problems? Please let me know of your experiences and any products that helped. Thank you.

I’m a little past my 3 month mark for vsg surgery and my hair just started falling out!!!! Has this happened to anyone else and could anyone give me some tips!?! I knew I was going to have some hair loss but never expected this!
