From a Sleeve to a bypass
Bastian replied to Empress24's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Totally unrelated reason for my bypass 1 week+ after my sleeve, just wanted to wish you luck, it'll be so worth it, even though any surgery is scary and we have to weigh up the pros and cons of having it done. I'm sure you will get some good info from those that have gone through it that'll hopefully ease any niggling doubts you have -

My Plastic Surgery Thread
Darktowerdream replied to sillykitty's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
@sillykitty i can’t believe it’s done and I’m sure you’re relieved it is. Hold a small pillow to your belly whenever you need to cough, breath, move ... the catheter is a pain, the constant sensation of needing to pee but it’s a blessing right after to not need to get out of bed. I had it after my hysterectomy, after a pelvic surgery, and for what felt like far too long after my gastric bypass surgery... Rolling over in bed will be hard but I slept in my own bed anyway, you find ways to adapt. Use the side rail of the hospital bed to maneuver yourself. You will probably find it hard to walk upright for awhile afterwards, getting in and out of cars is awkward, but as for pain I think you will be ok. Regarding your boobs, remember they are squashed by bandages and compression. They need healing before you see true results. can I tell you something funny? Here I was the most shy about anyone seeing any part of me- (forever ago) I had breast reduction surgery at a clinic in nyc (my doctor was awesome though) it was very early morning after my surgery and I had a whole team of doctors checking out my boobs and how good the doctors work was ... 😂 -

From a Sleeve to a bypass
biginjapan replied to Empress24's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I can't help you with your questions, but I just wanted to let you know I'm on the same journey. I was sleeved in 2017, lost 100lbs and have since gained back more than half of that. After reading the forums and consulting with some surgeons, I'll be having a revision to bypass in early March. I'm hoping that that, plus following some version of a low-carb/keto/paleo type diet, that I'll be able to keep the weight permanently off. -
I was sleeved in December of 2013. I lost a total of 50lbs before i ended up getting pregnant and regaining the weight. I currently am more than i weighed pre surgery and my doctors have recommended that i be revised to a bypass. I am a bit scared and want to know of anyone else’s experience with a sleeve to a bypass after a regain. Was your weight loss after your bypass successful? Do you have more issues now than before? Can you tolerate less foods? It will be very helpful in my decision making. Thank you all♥️

Damn!!!! I have been practicing the separation of food and beverage. My friend who had a revision from Vsg to rny, can eat & drink simultaneously. I'm jealous and still pre-op. Lol! -
revise from Band to sleeve with a low BMI... Cash pay?
Cin1989 replied to BayougirlMrsS's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was just approved through insurance to revise from band to sleeve and have a low BMI of 32, I weigh 182 and I’m 5’1. My doctor wrote a letter to insurance so I could get approved without having to go through all the nutrition classes. I do have type 2 diabetes but my doctor didn’t include this in the letter. I was approved last year to have the band removed but decided to wait. I have had a lot of issues with the band, like food is always getting stuck and throwing up about 3 times a week and that is with all the fluid being released last December. I also get pain at the port site and a burning sensation. My surgery date is on 12/31 and my pre-op is in 10 days. With the band it was great the first year but these last two years have been horrible. Wishing you the best of luck on your journey. -

Bypass revision for GERD after sleeve
GotItDoneInHarlem posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a sleeve done in 2013. I lost a ton of weight and am very happy with the resuIts. I lost 120 pounds and have kept it off. The problem is that it gave me terrible GERD to the point where medication no longer helps. I've seen multiple doctors and they all say I need surgery to correct the GERD before it becomes pre-cancerous. The surgery to correct the GERD is a gastric bypass. I'm already at my goal weight of 175 and I'm scared that I'll loose too much weight. Has anyone experienced this too? I'm looking for feedback. -
dumping usually happens pretty quickly after you eat. It happens when sugar hits your small intestine. Plus it's pretty rare in sleeve patients - it's a lot more common in bypass patients. Reactive hypoglycemia is sometimes referred to as "late dumping", but from what I understand, that typically happens a couple of hours after eating. And again, sugar is usually the culprit - it's caused by your blood sugar surging and then crashing. not sure what you had - maybe a bug? Or maybe some fluke? I guess I'd say just monitor it and let your surgeon know if it becomes a pattern.

Pain after surgery
James Marusek replied to Alex_1990!'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
In general gastric bypass or sleeve surgery does not limit your physical ability to consume fluids because these pass right through your system. It does constrain the amount of solid foods that you can consume. So I would recommend patience. Wait for a couple months and then consider if there is a problem. Also please do not post duplicate threads!!!! -
VSG cramping after purees, otherwise I'm a bottomless pit for fluids
MysteryJess replied to jason2483's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YALL!!!! OK, I am hoping someone can give me some advice. I was banded in 2009, lost 100 pounds, was at my goal weight for about 9 years. Then around Christmas of last year, I started having trouble keeping ANYTHING down. My surgeon said the band was properly placed and had not slipped. He removed all of the Fluid from my band and I gained 40 pounds in a matter of months. My insurance finally approved a revision and I had that done 4 days ago. I had no real pain, just some gas pain in my shoulder and neck. They laid out these tiny little cups and told me to "sip sip sip every 15 minutes". It didn't take long before I had both small bottles of Water drank. I was released the next day and was able to drink 2 cups of beef broth, I ate an entire cup of sugar free jello---last night I ate an entire can of thinned down cream of chicken Soup in the amount of time it would take someone who had not had bariatric surgery. I have not had my post-op follow up yet but my mom had the VSG about 18 months ago and she can only eat about a cup of food. She told me it took her an entire day to drink 1/2 of a Protein Shake. My goal weight is 145 and I am currently 169. (I am within a normal BMI and have no co-morbidity factors but the revision was approved because of all of the issues I was having with the band.) My fear is that surgeon might have been super conservative and made my sleeve/pouch larger than it should be because I don't have a ton of weight to lose. I am just hoping that someone reading this had a similar experience but felt restricted once solid foods were reintroduced. I feel like this surgery might have been a waste of time. Is there anyone out there that was successful after not having drinking limitations immediately following surgery? -
My revision story
MysteryJess replied to JRT Mom's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello there. So I had a LapBand to VSG revision on Thursday, December 5. I had no problems except some gas pain in my shoulder and I was very sore. My concern is that I have had NO issues drinking. Like none. When I woke up, I was dying of thirst and they had the little cups lined up and two of the small bottles of water on the table. On the marker board, it said "sip sip sip every 15 minutes". I sipped slowly; no issue. Then again, no issue. Within a couple of hours, I had both bottles of water gone. I was discharged around lunch time the next day. I drank 2 cups of beef broth in about an hour, but that's because I was just sipping on it like coffee as I watched tv. I have also drank multiple 12 ounce protein shakes, pudding cups, jello cups etc. My mom had VSG about 18 months ago and said that it would take her an entire day to drink one protein shake. I was thinking that maybe they took the LapBand out but something happened and they didn't do the sleeve. I called the Dr. office this morning and the nurse verified that I DID have the band removed and the sleeve procedure. I told her that I have NO restrictions when it comes to drinking. Oh, I also ate an entire can of cream of chicken soup, thinned down with milk, in about the amount of time it would take someone who had not had bariatric surgery. I feel like something isn't right. Anyways, the nurse said "well, it is probably because you had the band for so long (10 years) and you have been restricted for so long that you don't know how your actual anatomy is supposed to behave." That seemed like a super weird response to me. I know I am rambling on BUT my concern is that maybe my surgeon didn't make the sleeve as small as they are typically made. I am afraid that maybe he was too conservative with the sleeve and that I won't get the benefits of the revision. I am just wanting SOMEONE to tell me that they had a similar experience but that they have lost weight and that once they started eating solid food, they could feel the restriction. Like I said, my mom had it done about a year and a half ago and she can only eat a cup of food in one sitting. I am so afraid this surgery was a waste of time. -
I just had revision to bypass. I was taking dulcolax, miralax, mom, smooth move tea. Was constipated for 5 days until dr office told me to try an enema and magnesium citrate. I was told that if I had not gone by the evening of the fifth night I needed to go to er. You do not want to deal with obstruction or compaction. Nothing to take lightly.

Hello, My name is Brandy I just had my gastric bypass surgery on 11/26/19 as you all know it's been a rough road but it starts to get smoother eventually! I'm looking forward to feeling and looking much healthier! I'm happy to have this app available and nice to meet anyone and everyone!

When I got my lap band years ago I loved the chocolate protein shakes. Now that I've had a bypass I can't choke them down. Maybe if you dilute it with some skim milk so they're not so thick...

Total Gastrectomy anyone?
cubyblue6 replied to cubyblue6's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow, that must have been a shock. Is the pouch smaller than it would have been for say a "normal" bypass sized stomach? Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
vomiting is way less unpleasant after surgery - with both sleeve and bypass. First of all, you have a much smaller stomach, so there's a lot less contents to vomit. Secondly, there's not nearly as much acid in your stomach, so you don't get that awful vomit taste. I don't dread it nearly as much as I did pre-surgery.

No I didn’t have one for my sleeve or my revision to rny.

I'm so happy that I found this place.....wahoo. I am 10 day to my revision From lab band to sips. So here's my story an I'm stickin to it lol. In 2005 I got my LB. My HW ever was 340 SW 270 LW 215 My CW 232 Because I've been on my per-OP for a week. Last week was 247.8 My first yr out I got to 215 My band was awesome.I had hit the sweet spot an life was amazing. Then in 2017 I got rear ended at a stop light an it broke my neck in 5 places an my back in two. Plus it tweaked my LB. I had to have it emptied. Never found my sweet spot again. [emoji26] My weight has bounced all over the place for the last 14 yrs. So I started doing research an decided I needed something with malabsorption. Cuz I really cant eat that much for the pass 8 yrs I have been at 236ish. I am very grateful for my LB. It has helped me to never see 340 again. But alas I must move on an get rid of the last 100lbs. I'm having a revision from a Lap-Band I had done ~13 years ago to gastric bypass on 12/09. Two week pre-op diet of 5 protein shakes, 2/fruitv& 2/veggies per day has been tolerable. Nerves are starting to get to me...trying to stay occupied. Have to be at the hospital at 5 AM on Monday, bright and early.
