  1. Hi everyone! I'm joining August Rush  I was banded on Monday. So far, feeling a lot better but still incredibly sore around my belly button. chicken broth was absolutely amazing for about a day and already I'm bored. Looking to move onto better Soups. Gas is still killing me ... gas x strips (after 2 boxes in 2 days -- bad i know) is not helping any longer. can we take tums? Another Question: anyone do any sugar free frozen yogurt or sorbet? Is chocolate flavor off limits? Nice to join the August-ers!!
  2. I'm day 2 post op and I have a couple of questions. I'm not hungry at all, I have no desire to eat. Yesterday I had 2 11 oz shakes and some crystal light, today, I've had 1 11 oz shake and a yogurt. I've been able to take all of my medications (I take about 6 pills a day for my heart) and everything seems to be going down fine. I'm certain that I'm not eating/drinking enough but I don't feel like it. Has anyone else experienced this in the first few days? I am having gas issues too, I feel really bloated and uncomfortable. I've been taking gas x strips, they seem to help. I also gained 5 lbs since surgery, it's gas and liquid, right???? I figured I'll have a big loss when my body gets back to normal...I hope!

    March 2007 Bandsters

Rosi -- I haven't been banded yet but I've been experimenting with the allowed foods so I'll be ready after surgery. This morning I made a yummy "protein shake" with the following: Blue Bunny strawberry yogurt smoothies (it's sugar free) 1.5 tbsp of vanilla whey protein 1/4 c cottage cheese 8 ice cubes blend all together well till ice is chopped fine -- YUMMY Hope that helps.

I know TMI. But for everyone with a yeast infection, try douching with live yogurt as well, seriously!

((((Steph)))) You have every right to be irritable. Don't push yourself too hard and give yourself some time to feel back to normal (both physically and mentally). Thanks for asking about my dentist appt-it stunk today. only about 15 minutes or so but he didn't give me any novocaine as he was scraping out my root- WTF??? I mean, it wasn't off the wall pain since he had done most of the work last week but I had a couple of those pangs that felt like electric shock when he was in there. I would rather give birth again than have teeth work done. UGH. I did great today on my self-inlficted pre-op diet. Protein shake for Breakfast, Soup for lunch, ww frozen meal (290 cals) for dinner. I may have a yogurt in a little while. All in all not much and I feel okay. We'll see how I am at the gym tomorrow morning. Can we really function on so little??? I think I am just accustomed to my 1700 or so cals a day I have been eating these past 2 months so it seems like a big drop. Have a good night. biggest loser finale on tonight. I love that show. ~Kay

Gerbera---3rd week berfore I get yogurt and milk products. Isn't it something how different the doctor's instructions are? (How long to wait before the next stage, etc?) Who would think that I'd ever dream about a noodle in my chicken broth? LOL I do appreciate your understanding! :biggrin1:

    For Just Us Guys

Hey Phil, I know exactly how you feel. It does get better. I just posted this in the April board It will all make sense. "wow, we are all doing so great. Real food... I can't wait... my doctor has me on "full" liquids until the 19th. I am on Cream soups, jello, sf pudding, yogurt. I feel like my twin 1 year olds. Maybe they know more than I do. Last night my family had chinese food, so I ventured to the land of EGG DROP SOUP. Wow, after a week of clear liquids, a taste explosion. Now, I had an interesting thought.... Last night was the first night all the port pain, and gas was worth it. I figured out one thing in life as a fat guy.. it's been more years than I wish to count where I just realized I haven't tasted food. I just consum mass amounts because it's there, becaused I payed for it ( I guess doggie bags were not in my fat mind! hello, I can eat it twice if I bring some home, what a concept) and maybe, just maybe this food would never appear in front of me again. I never would have been able to tell you that a half of a 6 oz yogurt could fill me up but yes... we will all make it. and this board is a big part of the reason why. Happy Easter, Pat

Did you recieve a booklet that was for post-op? I got two. They look alike. One is for post-op. The front cover has a womans picture and it says "I can succeed." They actually look just alike. I got one post op and the other in my pre op info folder. The booklet is by "Inamed Health," the company that makes the band. That might really scare ya, I am sitting here reading this sentence..Your stomach can only hold 1/4 cup of food ( or 2 oz.)at one time. Eat 3 small meals. It is page 2 of the booklet. I am assuming they are talking about right after surgery. It also says it is very important the first few weeks to avoid putting pressure on the new stomach above the band. If you have an Inamed Band your doctor's office will have this booklet. It is very informative. But as always follow your doctors orders to take care of the band. I am still post-op liquids. But not after Wed. I get mushies, purees, pudding, yogurt, hot cereals, ect. I am looking forward to it too. Good Luck.

    Biggest Loser

I think that snacking is an effective way to do it. In the past my meal plans have been a schedule of meals like: Breakfast at 7 (cereal, oatmeal) 150 cal Snack at 10 (yogurt or apple) 100 cal Lunch at noon (salad, protein) 200 cal Snack at 3 (popcorn or apple) 100 cal Dinner at 6 (protein and veggies) 300 cal Dessert at 7 (WW dessert) 140 cal Eating like this is supposed to boost your metabolism. However, I havne't been able to do this since the lapband. I try to stick to 3 meals but can't do breakfast or morning snack anymore.

    Hampton Roads/Peninsula thread

Hi Keam, When Dr. T puts you on mushys, he'll probably tell you the number one food that is perfect for that is CHILI! You will be in heaven! Wendy's Chili. It's loaded with protein. Beef, beans, cheese, etc... Also refried beans are great, yogurt, cottage cheese. Anything with a lot of protein that is soft. You can also make egg salad. Easy on that mayo. Use light. Susie says use mustard, but who the hell can put just mustard in egg salad? YUK! Anyway, I think it will actually be a little easier than you think. You will be so happy to have real food and not just liquids. You can still stick with your protein shakes, etc..Although, you'll stay fuller on soft and mushy foods. Tuna salad, chicken salad. I ate a lot of yogurt. Oh, and cheese. You can have cheese. HOORAY! Glad to hear things are going well for you! Welcome to band land! You're on the road to great success. Congrats on the 12 lbs.

the same thing happened to me the other day! I was there around lunch time and I was hungry! I ate the samples by the time I left, I had had steak kabobs, cheese, yogurt, grilled chicken, cherries, a cracker with spinach dip and a small piece of cake! I was done til dinner! What a great way to have a free lunch! AND they said, "there are no free lunches!" they must not have been a bander at CostCo!

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

Tomorrow is my big day. I have to be at the hospital at 6am. I am so excited to start this next phase. I am sick of shakes, tomato soup, yogurt and pudding. I know I have at least another 2-3 weeks of that but at least I can add in applesauce and bananas in a week. :tongue2:

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

My surgery is set for the 17th!! Only 3 more days! I have been on liquids all day yesterday and today and so far so good. I think I wont have any problems making it 2 more days! Wish me luck tho, I know I could use it. Reading all the posts has been great and such a learning tool, just all the different opinions and useful ideas. I am so glad I found this site! I am a little confused between clear liquids and liquid diet. My paperwork says clear liquids but also lists protein shakes, yogurt and other "unclear" liquids. Anyone have any thoughts as to that? I have staying with clear except for my protein shake. That has been like my only "meal". I am wishing everyone the best results and look forward to reading up on everyone's progress! Merry Christmas to us.

    October 2006 Bandsters!

Congrats Kstar! Today is the big day! Good luck! JHW - hang in there. It does get better. I thought I would bounce back much quicker than I did, but it took me a full week to feel 100%. threebeauties - my band is a secret too. Only my family and close friends know. Don't worry - your secret is safe with me! I have a friend who lives in Taunton (SherryW) and we are thinking about trying to set up a local support group at her house that would meet once a month. Would you be interested in joining us? Also, if you want to check out some of our chats under the MA board, please do. We have a group under BIDMC, which is the hospital I was banded at, but now it's moreso just a chat with some great ladies. Feel free to join us! As far as liquids after surgery go, I've been eating a lot of tomato soup, pudding, yogurt, and carnation instant breakfast. I cannot wait to get to mushies!! Hope everyone is doing well!

    October 2006 Bandsters!

Hi to my fellow bandsters! Havnt posted in awhile but still here. Ive been back to work this past week and doing very well. I feel good except for my friends making me laugh at work. I hold on to my stomach as if I was pregnant. That and sleeping on my side I just wont do. I probably could but it feels weird. The food thing I think Ive gotten used to but I definitely have hunger pains shortly after I do a protien shake maybe 1-2 hrs. I find that if I have a light creamy soup it holds me over much longer. One thing I found to help me when I want a little treat is flan. If I can have yogurt I really cant see why i cant have flan. I make it with skim milk so it comes out very light. I also have the reccomended serving which is a half cup so the calories are about 100.Not bad. Ive even been walking on the treadmill. Im not running yet of course but I do walk everyday with no pings or pangs. Its day 13 for me today and every morning I feel better than the last. I hope everyone is doing great and for the new guys congrats and you will do great just be patient and you will be back in the swing of things in no time!
  18. Maybe I will try that. Although I am beginning to think it may be the yogurt. I went to the movies today and instead of the delicious yummy smelling popcorn  I got a mcdonalds fruit and yogurt parfait and had it during the movie and I noticed the gas then too. Maybe I will try and skip the yogurt or eat it by itself and see if it happens again. But it is good to know I am not alone in this, I hope it goes away soon.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Hi all. I haven't posted in a while. I went for my 1 week check up and my doc told me I could progress to soft foods for a week and the move to solids, going slowly and testing the foods to make sure I did ok. I have had egg salad, refried beans, yogurt, black bean soup, and today, watermelon. The watermelon was devine. and easy to eat. Indiogirl, I pray that your tests turn out as well as your sister's.
  20. I was banded on the 13th. I have been having slim fast shakes and carnation instant breakfast. Now I'm on to yogurt and cottage cheese. I find I have to eat/drink often, but I am doing well. The chocolate shakes are not bad.

Bunny Bandsters - April '09, MASTER THREAD #1

jerseygirl I'm in a similar situation...I've started eating yogurt with Protein Powder for Breakfast, today I'm going to try premade tuna salad in a cup I've been eating Soups at lunch the meat and soft veggies and dinner I made some meat with condensed mushroom Soup (don't add water) in the crockpot cooks it very tender. I've been adding sugar free popcicles of some sort in the evening or a Protein Shake. I also eat low fat piminto (sp) spread or cream cheese on Triscuts, I can only eat a couple of these but they go down ok and don't get stuck. I find the rules they've been telling us about all this time really have to be stuck to at this point that's why I was feeling so bad a few weeks ago eating to much, to big, not chewing... I still can't get a lot of Water and my milk consumption is down but a small meal last me a long time. The whole thing makes Kirk feel bad cause when he's home and we go out I order a side of mashed potatoes and eat a quarter of it.
  22. Well to be honest, I don't think anyone hated exercise more than me (not saying you do). I have a 4 year old and a 6 year old that are very demanding, so I will take them on huge walks with me to the custard stand to get a frozen yogurt or water ice (where I will treat myself to a nice, BIG water LOL) so they have incentive to walk with me. I am thinking of buying a bike so we can all go riding, but believe me, I get the fact that it's hard having kids and most of the responsibilities that come with having them most of the time (my hubby works all the time too). What I did do was I went onto Comcast OnDemand and hit some of the free exercise videos there. There are a couple called "Walk for Weightloss" (Leslie Sansone is the instructor)--they have a 1-mile/15 minute brisk walk and a 2-mile/30 minute brisk walk and it incorporates a bunch of other movements in there so you burn more calories than you normally would taking a regular walk or walking on the treadmill. If you don't have comcast, you can buy those dvds relatively cheap. I now do the Wii Fit, Just Dance on the Wii (which my kids LOVE doing with me) and my new favorite is Hip Hop Abs (LOVE this workout)!!! Starting to integrate the Chalean Extreme to keep things fresh, but even though sometimes I'm not motivated to exercise (tired or may have had a long day), honestly, afterward, I feel SO good when I do. It's something I do for myself and it really feels good to know I'm working hard toward my goal when I could've given in and just laid down after work (even though that's what I want to do most of the time :-))!! Swimming is also an EXCELLENT way to get your exercise in! I've been bugging hubby to get the freaking pool open--now that he has it's been in the 60s since then :-( --just can't win! I can't wait to start getting back in the pool! REALLY great exercise, something to do with the kids and lots of fun too!! You'll fall into a groove soon. You just need to find something that works for you. They say walking is the best exercise, so try to check out those Leslie Sansone DVDs!!

    MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!

Gika I hope they get it figured out!! They told me to schedule my 2nd fill for only 2 weeks later...an I can already tell I need more (but maybe not much more). The 1 cc they added has for sure helped but I could use a smidge more to keep me feeling full longer. I'm fairly pleased with the amount I'm eating at a sitting (about a cup to cup and a half depending on what it is) Well, with my fill I had a pretty good day. My eggs with onion and ham (about 20g protein and under 200 cal) kept me full for 4 hours. For lunch I had greek yogurt and granola, which lasted about 2 1/2. I just ate the topping off a piece of pizza and half a side salad and am way too full. I plan to not eat anything else today except maybe some hot tea. Is anyone having a lot of belching going on? It amazes me sometimes that I can belch this much...like a neverending burp pit.

  25. Hi Guys, I was banded on 09/22 and was very nervous but all went well. I ended up staying for two nights at the hospital because I could not keep anything down but finally Thursday night I could keep in the water and the broth. I am extremely sore and really can't drink too much because I start feeling very sick. I am on clear liquids and doctor said I could have some jello and yogurt but I tried and just couldn't. I've had one sugar-free popsicle and that helped. I also need to have one protein drink a day and I started today and I'm two hours into it and not even close to finishing it. Well I hope it get's better and I am so glad I took the rest of the week off from work... Good Luck to all that are being banded this week and to all that have been banded..... On a good note: I've lost 9 lbs
