I was told by my surgeons nurse at my 2 wk post op visit that most ppl lose 10 lbs at that visit & I was only down 1 lb. I guess this has given me the idea that I am obviously behind their other patients:/ Maybe I have just let that comment bother me too much. I know I would have loved to have waken up from surgery skinny. Lol! But I didn't become overweight over one week so I'm not going to lose it in a week.

Hi All I am hardly a newbie to the lap band but have only had 2 fills in the entire time I have had it and both were within 3 months post op. I was banded in Jan 04 and have lost around 140 pounds but my weight has been pretty much the same for the last 18 months or so because I haven't been as committed as I should be eating the right foods and I get hungry quite often ......... so this brings me to my question. I get full on small amounts of food still so I don't think I have an issue with my pouch being stretched (which previously I have had) or with slippage. The problem is I am hungry again within an hour or two of eating so I am snacking all day because I am never satisfied for long. I eat small amounts each time but it's SEVERAL times during the day, not just 3 or 4 times. Do you think this is indicative of needing a fill? My band has been entirely empty for just over 18 months (No coincidence really is it that my weight loss came to a screaming halt around the same time??!!) so I probably could do with a fill. I had port revision surgery in Dec 06 and have not had a fill since then. I am scared it is something more serious even though I can only eat small amounts and have no pain or anything else unusual going on. I have an appt with my surgeon next week and they want to do a fluoroscopy first just to make sure everything is ok because it has been so long. I guess it is just a precaution to make sure its all ok before they fill me. I know you guys arent doctors but hearing your opinion would calm me down a little if you just think a fill is all that is needed. I'm a bit scared. :crying:

Metabolism- Eating 3x A Day Or 6x A Day?
sirensiren replied to sirensiren's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I had the sleeve 3 weeks ago 4 weeks ago- some time has passed since the original post. Not a dumb question! My surgery was November 7th. I don't know of a surgeon that would perform it on a non-obese person, but my BMI was 31 at surgery (164 lbs), I was obviously on the lighter side of obese. I lost about 20 lbs prior to surgery as well, a 31 BMI for me (164 lbs) was me at the lightest I've been. So at 131 lbs with a normal BMI now I'm ecstatic! -
My surgeon, among others recommends limiting meals to 3 times per day once you are on solids. This conflicts with every nutritionist and personal trainers recommendations I've got pre-sleeve- the rule has always been to eat smaller meals (obviously the sleeve takes care of that) consisting mostly of Protein every 3 hours (roughly 5-6x a day), because beyond that point your metabolism can drop. Is there a reason we are typically recommended to limit our intake of food to 3 "meals" a day and avoid the snacking? I don't ask this because I wish to nibble throughout the day, but because I'd like to be on a track that will keep my metabolism as high as possible and get me to my goal the quickest. Obviously, these people with normal size stomachs who adhere to eating 5 small balanced portions get results- I do work with celebrities and people in the fitness community here in LA, and they look great and all adhere to small frequent portions. So, what is the theory? Are we now wired a bit differently because our body can only take in small portions? Does anyone have a surgeon who encourages eating every 3 hours? I am at week 3 right now, I've yet to get to the point of "meals" as everything I consume is blended or liquid. The concept of a meal or being full is still foreign to me.

Metabolism- Eating 3x A Day Or 6x A Day?
Thomas CPA replied to sirensiren's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My doctor, PA, and nutritionist all said same thing - three regular meals a day avoid snacking to avoid putting weight on. Once I started back at gym/trainer I was put on higher caloric diet to compensate avoid to fast of a weight loss and to keep stamina up. Prior to surgery you needed the metabolism boost to weight loss, you don't need your metabolism burning all the time now lest you loose to fast. -

I had my surgery on 12/09/08 and was out of work for 9 days. My surgeon recommended at least 1 week, glad I took a few more days because I do alot of sitting and standing n my job. Had to stay overnight in the hospital and had no problems when I went home except finding the easiest way to get out of bed cause if you just jump up and not hold your abdoment, it hurts like he!!.:tongue2:

I had my surgery on a thursday and returned to work the nex tuesday. I wish I had taken a week off. My incisions felt ok, but I had shoulder pain from the surgery gas and it was hard to concentrate. I felt pretty good after 6 days and decided I could drive. That was a mistake too. It was very uncomfortable turning corners, I felt a pulling on my incisions. I stayed one night in the hospital because my surgeon requests that of all his lapband patients. Many people go home the same day.

I'm used to the canned sweet three bean salad they sell in the supermarket, but no more. I do be=asically what you do, but I add a pack or two of Equal to sweeten it up. I hope it doesn't gross anyone out! -
Ok, I have just got my band filled yet again.... I have gained so much weight and I am obviously doing the wrong things. I have been eating dinner. That's about it. I work during the day and don't eat til I get off so..... I have been told to eat 5-6 small meals during the day, anyone care to share what they do. I.e what they eat. How much of it ? I lost 70lbs just from band itself, then had issued Nd had to empty it. Now that its filled I want to start losing! Fast and properly. I was told to do only shakes for 2 weeks, any ideas. I need cheap, not a lot of money at the moment.

I just started my journey yesterday . Meet with the surgeon. I have to do a three month supervised diet. I start that on Monday, have a pyc evaluation Thursday, sleep study done next Friday night. - didn't want to do that lol, I never sleep. I work full time and go to school part time. Who has time to sleep? Then the wait is on. I have read horror stories on Cigna. I am ready and excited. However I am a chicken when it comes to pain, I have had a csection. How is the pain related to that? Thanks for any and all information.

twitching and spasms at incision sites
NoMoBand replied to beergut's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 weeks post op from getting port revised. I get massive iching and spasms at port and incisions, but, is getting better day at a time. I notice that when I exercise I tend to get the spasms. Ice helps. I also notice that the itching gets really bad with gas in the belly. GaxX or mylanta helps with this. It gets extremely frustrating. Hang in there. Jake -
Struggling with pre diet....surgery on Monday!!!
NewLifeRight posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Merry Christmas Band Family!!!!! I have been struggling horrifically with my 2 week pre diet. The holiday rush and food has been hard to resist cravings or skipping meals not following diet. I guess if I was great at dieting I wouldn't need the band...huh?? Will it be easier to follow the diet once banded? Did I hurt myself or my future with the band by not getting this pre diet right?? :-/ -
So I started my weight loss journey years ago but never thought about wls. I decided last year that wls was probably my best bet. So on my oldest son bday, April, I started my supervised 6 month diet. I went through all the testing, pych eval, nut appt and meet with my suregon twice. I have jumped through hoops to get here and now its only a week away. Im scheduled for preop appt on 2/12 and surgery on 2/13. My preop diet has been hard cause I still have a husband and three lil children to cook three square meals a day for but I haven't cheated and I'm hanging in there. Im getting super nervous as they days pass.

How long between “meals”
Briswife15 replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just curious, but are those your surgeon's instructions? I know all surgeons are different, but I will still be on pureed food at 3 1/2 weeks, and can't eat solid regular food for 7 weeks. Maybe your new pouch is telling you it is too soon for such heavy food. Now, if it is on your plan, maybe you ate too quickly or too much volume. Good luck, and I hope it doesnt happen again! -
I wasn't allowed to have tomato soup because of exactly what you said, it is too acidic. They said it might bother the tummy. My favorite soup for my 2 weeks post-op full liquid phase was cream of celery. I ate that for the entire 2 weeks at lunch and dinner... it takes me a long time to get tired of eating certain foods, I'm weird. You could also do cream of chicken, cream of mushroom. Just remember that if you do any soups with pieces of veggies or other things in them that you need to strain it before you eat it. Congratulations on your surgery!

I am the same way and I work 3 - 15 1/2 hr days a week on my feet most of it. My surgery was 4/10 I was back to work 10 days post-op. It wore me out.
