    exo cricket protein review

Chapul cricket flour is available on Amazon. I think it is over $40 per pound. That's why I raised my own in the past. It is excellent for keto and a very nutritionally dense, high protein supplement for anyone.
  2. Has anyone tried to maintain a keto diet after surgery? If so, what kind of macros have you been trying to maintain. I figure after all this liquid stuff is over, itll be best just to go keto, since, really, I already am carb wise

    exo cricket protein review

How economical is getting cricket flour? Also, any idea if it would be an effective replacement for say almond flour in keto recipes?
  4. 5'2", ♀️10m PO, maintaining 116.9 lbs this morning. I'm noticing the effects of the drop in my calorie intake the past couple days. This morning's run tired me out much, much, more than usual (I only did 3.5k) and I feel an overall lethargy. Also am going on 4 days of poop-less-ness. ARG. I'm probably keto-flu-ing. Anyhoo, going to stick to this self-imposed "pre-vacay-food-intake-plan" one more day and scrapping it tomorrow. Menu for Yesterday, Friday Sep 20: Totals --- 505 cals --- 41g protein --- 23g NET carbs --- 27g fat 9:00am (13 cals) 1 black coffees + ½ packet Stevia chicken broth 5:00pm (493 cals) Rice-less Poke Bowl *ate about 1/4 of the quantities below* ½ package fettuccine shiratake noodles 51g avocado 12g carrots 14g edename 70g roasted brussel sprouts w/ bacon 100g seared sesame crusted yellowfin tuna 1½ tbsp honey ginger soy sauce ¼ Portobello mushroom cap pizza leftovers 1 pork meatball (it was a dumpling, but I removed the rice wrapper) 7:30pm *ate about 2/3 of the poke bowl leftovers from my 5pm meal* Yesterday's Exercise: 5km run 15 mins strength training (arms)
  5. @Mikeyy 100g a day is fine for a man. Some kidney pain can be normal in the early days of a keto diet as they are working a bit harder than usual. I start my male clients on 80-120g a day and 20g carbs. (I trained under Professor Tim Noakes and am certified to coach people in keto- fit in with my specialist interest in training as a specialist nurse in diabetes you see & certified in dietary advice! Yep having all that knowledge isn't always enough, hence me being here post-surgery!). You really do need a good amount of water to help flush stuff out as Fluffy already said. If it continues for 2 weeks or gets significantly worse or you feel unwell go and see your Gp. Healthy kidneys can handle it fine, people with a history of kidney issues have to have much less, but a week on that amount wouldn't cause an issue. However, what can cause an issue is bariatric surgery and that can cause kidney stones to suddenly appear seemingly out of the blue, hence my comment about seeing your Gp if you get severe pain.

    Food Before and After Photos

Ok, these are going crazy everywhere on the internet and especially at another site where I read. I know we used to make "protein waffles" in the old days of LC using protein powder, egg whites, and mozzarella cheese. But now they've stealth rebranded to Chaffles! (Those crafty millennial bloggers!) And now I can not help myself and have to make them. I even tried to buy one at Target online and pay to have it delivered today but they are so popular everyone is out of them! So now I have to wait til Friday for it to arrive! Wah! Look at what I bought myself for my birthday pressie! https://www.target.com/p/dash-mini-maker-waffle-aqua/-/A-52912898?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df&fndsrc=tgtao&CPNG=PLA_Appliances%2BShopping_Brand&adgroup=SC_Appliances&LID=700000001170770pgs&network=g&device=c&location=9027638&gclid=CjwKCAjwq4fsBRBnEiwANTahcOdi4XMR9dU9M_IJdWTEkfKPZ90Id6ZEUswHepUP8UQRChVJdG9SqhoCgO4QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds (link isn't an affiliate link btw) It's a mini chaffle maker (4" diameter!): Here is a popular recipe for them: Chaffles by Kasey Trenum https://kaseytrenum.com/keto-chaffle-recipe/

5 years out need advice please

Welcome to the forum, You have done great. 9 pounds is easier to lose than 50, 60, 100+lbs. You are not alone; I had a gain my third year and worked it down. Many of us go back to bariatric real food stage diet. (log food, hydrate, and exercise/activity) Some things to try: Choose a food plan that works for you. Bariatric diet, keto, paleo, low carb, whole 30, vegan, intermittent fasting. whatever you choose, log your food in Myfitnesspal or baritastic . Weight loss calories are not a one size fits all. Once you know your current calories by using myfitnespal, You can lower the calories (or raise them) to see where your body loses weight. Get temptations out of the house I’m a sleeve. Years out, my surgery restriction is less. I can consume more food volume. I found ways to fill the extra space without going over my calories Sugars and extra carbs cause craving and hunger. Detox off them Keep healthy options for sweet and salty cravings on hand. Join the Sept weight loss challenge for motivation. https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/427650-💜-sep-2019-challenge-💜/?tab=comments#comment-4808981
  8. Snap! I'm 11 months out with Dr De Bruyne, so we have been on a similar journey. Although when the doc took it my blood pressure was normal, I have been getting orthostatic hypotension for the past few months so I do wonder if it's related. I've much improved since going keto so I just wonder if I've become ultra sensitive to carbs. It's a bit weird having changes this far out from surgery hey. Hope you feel better soon too!

    Bad taste in mouth

Maybe Keto Breath rearing its Ugly Little Head, may have it for a while until Your Rapid Fat- Burning slows a LITTLE, keep washing out with Mouthwash and PLEASE believe me, You have the Taste but it's doubtful anyone else can smell ANYTHING. Just a small price to pay for all the things that are wonderful coming true in your LIFE.
  10. KEEP UP your fluid intake, wash the Keto byproducts away and l8ke a lot of Us You Too will make it through. it's like Your Body is complaining "WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME?", but be strong , keep your commitment up and Someday you'll remember and say " Hey it's a Tiny Blip in My Road but I DID make it through!"

    💜 SEP 2019 CHALLENGE 💜

He's a keeper my hubs. But I let him watch the sport on the telly afterwards 😆 (All Ireland Final Rematch, Dublin won). I have to say, while I enjoyed Downton Abbey it felt more like a Christmas special than a proper movie. But had a good time AND I didn't buy anything to eat and didn't even bother with the protein bar and keto crisps I brought.

Looking at the jerky that @Orchids&Dragons recommended now. Trying to see which one has the lowest amount of carbs even though I know jerky is something I used to eat when doing keto before surgery. They definitely sound DELICIOUS, the protein is awesome and the calories are low enough! My youngest daughter and I..even though we never exercised (well, I swam) before my WLS, are doing what we have learned is basically called 'day hiking'. I'd like to have something I can put in our little pack to take with us and I think @AngieBear also mentioned putting some type of snack like this in as she was going hiking. I need to follow this thread as it has given me so many ideas. I'm getting a little tired of the same 4 to 5 things..lol You guys are so awesome. Such amazing ideas and willingness to share!!

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Nothing I would call “bad” I have days where I intentionally stray off program, but I ALWAYS go the extra mile before AND after to make up for it. I now practice IF (intermittent fasting) all of the time. What varies is the length of time I fast daily. Most days I practice 16:8 or 18:6, but when I restrict further (either 20 or 24 hours between meals) it takes me a day or two before I can hold my usual amount of food and I supplement with protein shakes. One thing I consistently practice is what I call bari-Keto, and I’m convinced that’s why (along with the IF) that I have so few problems. It’s like regular Keto, but without many of the fats bc those hurt. I very rarely have >25gm carbs on any given day and any carbs I do have are veggie related so it’s offset by a ton of fiber which helps slow the absorption and thus reduces the chance of getting sick from it. Check over your food logs and I bet you find the days where you’re experiencing “bad” are days when either the carb or fat load is higher than normal. Twice I’ve tried to eat salmon with my signature mayo-dill topping and both times it made me very ill. Once I ditched the mayo and subbed in wasabi mustard, I had no problems at all. Which was fabulous news to me as I use tuna/salmon at least 1-2 times weekly to try to keep on top of healthy fats.
  14. I had a headache for a week after starting my pre-op diet. It was hard to get through but finally stopped. I was dizzy too and just out of it overall. I had numerous people tell me it was carb withdrawal. I did a bunch of research and there is all sorts of info online about it. Some names of it are ‘ keto flu’ and ‘ carb withdrawal’. I am 7 days into my month long pre-op and my biggest problem is that i am soooo hungry. It is making me soooo nervous that if I have this surgery and am still hungry I don’t know how I will do it! I need some advice for sure.

Hunger 3 years post op, Regain

I swear if you give it 4 days, with water only and unsweetened black coffee and unsweetened tea...try to minimize the sweet--then also go keto. You will feel such sweet relief from the hunger. It takes 3days to 2weeks for some... But once you feel that absence of hunger...man. It's a no-brainer! I still have times when I have to do that...
  16. I am a SLOW LOSER. Have been no matter what I tried since I hit my 30's. For the image that GradyCat posted..for the starting weight of '300-400'....I've been roughly on target for the smallest weight loss of the possible 'ranges'. i.e. at 10 days out I may have even been less than projected..maybe 7-8 lbs For 6 weeks out - I was at about 22 or 23 lbs. This is with no cheating, no big calorie intake on any day and with increased physical activity. Some others that I follow that had similar starting weight as I did (or roughly similar weight at time of surgery) and are within + or - 7 years of my current age, have ALL blown away what I've managed to do by leaps and bounds. They lost more like at the high end of the ranges. I wish it was different for me, but I keep continuing to work on NOT being disappointed. Who knows, maybe with me losing more slowly, when some of my 'faster losing' friends....if they start to 'peter out a bit'..maybe mine will keep being continual. In other words, maybe 1 to 2 years out, if we stick to what we know we should be doing, our losses may match more closely (assuming similar physical activity as well). I know that the way I was going, I was staying stagnant and then gaining lbs here and there and at almost 400 lbs, I was on a fast track to what is almost...like a slow death blow to my body..bit by bit. Also, I lost 45-50 lbs on previous 15 months of keto WOL before I ever walked into a surgeon's office. Before I ever started any 'pre-op diet' and my body was VERY stubborn in shedding the weight during those 15 months even when I was HEAVY into ketosis (based on the urine strips). Decades of yo-yo dieting, etc. seem to have just turned my thermostat to 'OFF'. It is up to me to reignite it and for ME, that means I have to be more active - not just having an RNY. I had been walking with my daughter & noticed that was adding an extra lb a wk loss which may not seem like much but over a year that is 52 EXTRA lbs lost from just walking 3 times a wk.

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Hello all, been a couple months since my last post. Down another 10 or so lbs since then. I have had a couple stalls and loss has slowed down but I am still not really exercising due to working so much, so in a way it is good to know that I am dropping weight just by eating healthy. I am on full solids now and I found out pretty quickly that I cannot do the regular Keto with this bypass like I did with the sleeve. The excess fats cause diarrhea. That kind of sucks because I can't stand ground Turkey so if I do foods with EXTRA lean ground beef I just have to take a chance on how I will react to it. I am glad it does that in a way, it tells me I won't be absorbing all that fat anymore. Another HUGE win is that for some odd reason, I am able to eat all kinds of lettuce again, even the iceberg....with the sleeve, any kind of lettuce would cause major stomach pain and I would throw it right back up but now it sits just fine so lots of salads for me!!! yippee!! LOL I know I need to supplement my protein though but that's not really a problem. I have been just sprinkling a scoop of Unjury unflavored powder in the salads. Problem solved. Hope everyone is doing well. Until next time.....✌️

Hunger 3 years post op, Regain

You are doing the right thing by taking back control. Reread the information and advise you were given at surgery. Check your water intake, are you drinking enough? Be mindful of what you are eating, time, amounts and snacks. Eat tasty salads and soups for your veggies and eat your protein first. youve got this, be kind to yourself. you may also want to check in with a nutritionist, Keto/Atkins ect aren’t always good for everyone
  20. I had my gastric sleeve done in October ‘16. On the day of my surgery I was 207 lbs and by July ‘17 I was 144. I loved that weight. Initially after surgery I had no hunger. I could barely consume 200 calories a day for the first 4 months. For a long time after that, I struggled to get to 800 calories. My surgeon wanted me to increase my caloric intake bc I wasn’t eating enough. And honestly I really didn’t want to eat solids. Fast forward to Spring ‘18. I was ravenous. Still am. I’m hungry all the time. I’ve had some regain. Currently I’m 160, and I’m 5’1”. Not exactly obese but not as lean as I used to be. Based on my physiological composition 135 is ideal. This took a long time for me to accept as according to the BMI chart for someone my height, my weight should be between 97- 132 lbs. 133 lbs was my goal, but I would be happy to be back at 144lbs. Any advice? What can I do to stop the hunger pangs? I’ve begun keto, but have found the dairy keeps me looking and feeling bloated. Atkins? And can we eat as much as we want until we feel full? Or do we still have to adhere to small servings like during post-op stage 4? Also, I feel so guilty I can now eat a lot more than during my first year post-op, I feel like I don’t have the restriction, and I’m scared to come to terms with this. I definitely don’t serve myself the way I did pre-op, but I’m guessing that’s just bc I’m in fear of gaining more weight. Could I have stretched out my sleeve? Any feedback from this amazing community would be so useful! Thanks everybody :)
  21. I like the idea of the protein powder, I think I will pick some up tomorrow and give that a try! I had the mashed potato thing as well where I wanted to eat more and more so I decided to stop eating them as well. I try to eat a lot of chicken (grilled) and very little veggies trying to get as much protein as possible. When I’m short I try to do like cheese sticks or eggs but it’s tough getting 75 grams of protein and stay under 800 calories. I’m not eating junk and my wife and I did a Keto for a while as well and we are trying to stay as low carb as possible, only problem is the calcium and multi vitamins chewed the surgeon put me on for the first three months has 20 carbs alone for what I need in a day. Switching to something else after I am out of these for sure! Thanks for the tips!
  22. One thing I've found that helps bring up protein without adding so many calories is I add protein powder (unflavored) to almost everything including my shredded chicken I made yesterday which has a salsa/broth poured on top of it. I noticed when I did not add the protein powder, I ate a bigger 'helping' of chicken..probably closer to 4+ oz & generally my pouch only tolerates UNDER 4 oz's well....I have no idea why with this food item I can 'stuff more in'. The reason I say it like that is because I was following old/bad habits, eating quickly, not chewing as much..not putting down my fork. This is where I find I need to do WAY more head work. I can tell when I've HIT my restriction, I need to REMEMBER to measure/weigh as when I do NOT hit my restriction, my old 'stinking' way of 'thinking' starts to wonder..."hhmm..can I take another bites?". The question should be DOES my body REQUIRE another bite? So, I realized I had forgotten the protein powder, I went back to adding it tonight & eating MINDFULLY - something I can forget from meal to meal even ONLY 6.5 weeks out! SCARY! I know this is the honeymoon period but short of trying to ensure I get 60+ oz's of protein, I should be doing whatever I can to keep calories LIMITED (this is my own feelings) AND ontinue to try to keep carbs limited. I;m a super SLOW loser & I noticed when early into pureed stages, when I had the ONE and only helping of 'mashed potatoes'...that I was in TROUBLE. Carbs like this are a big trigger food for me and CONVENIENTLY..my 'Ms. Picky Pouch' did not signify it was full when I expected the restriction to 'kick in as normal'. It's like 'she' (my pouch) decided she could fold and flatten the dang potatoes! I decided after that to love myself enough to kick this trigger food to the curb. You will not find a trigger food in my house normally as I had been doing keto WOL for long, long time. I like your idea of smaller plates. I notice when putting my shredded chicken into my regular size 'Dixie bowl', I was constantly hesitating as it 'looked like less'. I must weigh/measure so I KNOW how much it is. I think I will buy the small..well, ppl would call them dessert plates..whatever the smallest size is, and put my food on that instead. Heck, I have saucers I NEVER use..I can use them..lol..what a CONCEPT!

    Protein Balls - scooby snacks

YES! I am not even a huge ice cream fan but my husband is and before my RNY, we had been doing a keto WOL for 15 months so I looked up a few recipes for easy keto ice cream and EVEN using real whipping cream, what I made for him had less carbs, LESS FAT and less calories even then the 'retail' items being billed as 'low carb' or lower carb. I just get blown away trying to figure out where the BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP did all the 'bad numbers' i'm seeing on the nutrition labels of these products come from????

    Hello!!

Hi!! Im new here 🤗 (but have been lurking for months 😂😂) I started my journey for WLS in March of this year, Im looking to have VSG, my insurance has a 6 month period before approval.. Ive also struggled with weight all my life.. Ive been working out with a Personal Trainer since 2012 and I will admit tht my dedication has been more geared towards the workout vs. diet. I am so happy to have found this App because I love to hear the success stories as well as the bad stories (evn tho they scare me 😳).. I have 1 thing left to check off and then I guess ill be waiting for the approval from my insurance and thn on to surgery... On one hand im like no dont do and thn the other im like you have done all of the test and been to so many appts just do it lol.. Hopefully ill b on the Losers Bench soon!!
