Sleeve revision to mini vs full bypass
NYCGAL000 replied to Missynik's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had sleeve to mini bypass. Excellent results. Best thing I ever did. The mini is a thousand times better then the sleeve in every way. -
I am SO hungry!!! Conversion Surgery Sleeve to Bypass
NYCGAL000 replied to Traff_91's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the sleeve two years ago, was starving all the time, had revision in July to mini bypass. Best thing I ever did. Rarely ever hungry and lost weight extremely fast. The only thing with the bypass is since you don't absorb all your food, you are on toilet all day...I barely make it after I eat but I am so happy I did it!!!!! The other thing is my taste buds changed I hate chips and crackers and bread now they taste disgusting but I love fruit -
Lapband to RNY bypass on 12/20 - how do you tell people?
JohnnyMadison replied to losingitforever's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Tough one because it's nobody business but it's also not anything to keep shameful about. The first time around, with VSG, when I lost 135#, I did tell people and I didn't care. I even told my boss and his wife ended up having it done as a result of my feedback through him. Plus talking about it openly and living normally as a WLS patient helps destigmatize some of it. So there are two really good reasons to share plus people are often not judging us as much as we think. But YMMV and I loved all the support I was given along the way. I didn't want to become that person on my FB feed whose obviously had WLS and is going through dramatic transformation but then only speaks of "lifestyle change." For revision, I am not sure if I will tell people since I was revised for GERD only and kept 115# of the 135# off, mostly gained 20# after having to have my left hip replaced twice (recalled implant) and the inactivity that resulted from that (previously had been running 20 miles per week). I have a 28 BMI and if I go below a 20 BMI, which is about 30#, then I would say something but as for now I simply told work I had a hernia repair and surgery for GERD. Hopefully I don't lose more than 25-30# so I have to make this decision. -
I am SO hungry!!! Conversion Surgery Sleeve to Bypass
Losingit2018 replied to Traff_91's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My experience was opposite. I was sleeved early 2018. Never lost my appetite with the sleeve. Hunger was a constant battle. Revised to bypass 4 weeks ago and have to force myself to eat. Never hungry and nothing tastes the same as it did pre op. I am following dr plan to the letter. If you were to go off plan and eat carbs you may find that they either make you sick or even more hungry. Possibly both. Try to increase fluid intake and stick to plan. Call your dr if you still find hunger to be troublesome. Maybe they will have some ideas for you. I can barely get a few teaspoons of dense protein in and I am stuffed. Good luck and hang in there! -
I am SO hungry!!! Conversion Surgery Sleeve to Bypass
Traff_91 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone! I was sleeved 23.08.19 but due to complications I have been in and out of hospital since. To resolve the complications, I had conversion to by pass surgery on 13.12.19. Surgery went well, I was discharged a few days later. However this time is completely different! After my sleeve, I was never hungry. This time round I am constantly hungry, I never feel full, I am craving solid food terribly and I am so emotional. I’ve also had more pain in my abdomen ( not the incisions but inside of that makes sense). Has anyone else had an experience like this? Or started food earlier? I was just thinking something like skips or breadsticks with hummus/cream cheese high protein yet dissolve to nothing. If you have any advice or tips please let me know -
Hypoglycemia after surgery???
Losingit2018 replied to Mary_Berry_213's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. I had it for the first two weeks after bypass revision. Dr said this is common with rny. Told me to drink a shake or something with just a bit of sugar when I have these episodes. They seem to have stopped now though. -

Hypoglycemia after surgery???
Briswife15 replied to Mary_Berry_213's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I developed low blood sugar about a week after my RNY. Was told to drink a protein shake when it got too low, because we shouldn't have sugar. It leveled out. I had been diabetic before bypass, so this was a surprise! I eat every 3 hours, too. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hypoglycemia after surgery???

Hello, I was wondering if anyone else had issued with your sugar levels dropping after surgery? This had never happened to me before. Even after having getting my sleeve. Now with the Gastric Bypass it seems to be happening a lot. I almost passed out at work. I'm really scared -
Anyone had a revision to a Long Limb Bypass?
RCompound replied to RCompound's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
The way I see it is that you have to take the good with the bad. Ultimately it's all about which is the lesser of two evils. To stay at an unhealthy weight and all the complications that come along with that or to make some lifestyle changes that enable you to work with your revised plumbing. I'm still finding the balance but I've got faith that I will and that in the end, this will be a life saving and life enabling decision. I miss the guy I was 9 years ago and I'm bringing him back! -
Anyone had a revision to a Long Limb Bypass?
RCompound replied to RCompound's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello @tessarevived , I'm doing quite well. I know everyone's journey will be different but so far mine's going pretty good. Because of the no pouch changes, it doesn't really feel any different. I do get restriction and it seems to come on pretty abruptly but I've managed it fine so far. The weight loss has been slow but steady. I didn't really have a great week as far as diet and exercise goes last week but I still lost 3 pounds. The only thing which has been a significant change is, and there is no delicate way to put this, but bathroom frequency. I was like a clock before the revision. Once per day, in the morning. Now I'm at least twice and often more than that. I'm not sure if this is just an adjustment or if this is the new normal. Also, without going into too much detail, it's always soft and if I'm not careful of what I eat, it can be accompanied with some kind of liquid or oil. I asked the doctor about it and they said I'm not able to process that much fat in my diet and I should switch to leaner foods. Time will tell. Onward and upward! -
I just hit 4 weeks since revision to bypass and barely able to eat either. Saw my dr yesterday and he said no problem. Concentrate on protein and fluid right now. Fine to get protein from shakes.

Oh, I am so sorry! I just revised to bypass and fear getting ulcers as well. Had gerd and hernia with sleeve so didn’t have a choice but to revise. I do hope that you feel better soon.

WLS and Medicare approval
Mark.olypenn replied to over65's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm on a revision path. Due to complications, I had my band (2005) removed 10 days ago. Met with surgeon in first of September to discuss revision to VSG or RNY with Medicare and Supplement. While the surgeon's staff gave me a list of requirements for Medicare, they encouraged me to research the Medicare requirements on my own. I verified the listed requirements were accurate. I called my Supplement plan, and they said they would follow whatever Medicare required. The surgeon also stated that Medicare has no pre-approval process, which seems crazy. He commented, if the hospital agreed to move forward with the revision based on satisfactory completion of the Medicare requirements it would be approved. I still would like to have a confirmation from Medicare for piece of mind, don't like surprise medical bills $$. I have lost 13 lbs. (5%), so far, in the 3 months I have been in the medically supervised weight control program. I have not heard of being denied for losing too much weight, my BMI 40.3. Good luck, it's a bit of a maze to work through. -
Hello, post-op friends, who are further along their journey and from whom I hope to glean wisdom from..... here’s my story thus far. On Monday, December 16, I had RNY bypass surgery along with a hiatal hernia repair and removal of a small suspicious abdominal mass. 3 years ago, I had a large abdominal mass that turned out to be a borderline malignancy. My oncologist had been watching this new spot for a little over a year and when I told her that I was going for bariatric surgery, she said that she would come in at the same time and remove it. I woke up from surgery in relatively little pain, the deed being done and the procedures routine. My problems came the day after surgery, when I attempted to take in any liquids. Any liquid going down, would cause my new little pouch and digestive system to go into painful spasms. My surgeon decided to keep me hospitalized for an additional day to see if they could convince by body to tolerate liquids and keep me hydrated with IV fluids. Baclofan was administered to help with the spasms. Additionally, my blood sugar weirdly went up and I was administered 2 doses of insulin. Never before had blood sugar issues and no family history of diabetes. The first day after surgery, I finally tolerated 1 oz of broth, 1 oz of diluted juice, and 1 oz of Water. The second day after surgery, Wednesday, I was feeling much better, could sip without pain, and was cleared for discharge. That night, in my own bed, I slept an unheard of for me 10 hours. Sips of liquids went down with ease, though I could immediately tell if I sipped too much due to an uncomfortable pressure. It seems that herbal mint tea is agreeing well. I also had sugar free Jello, broth, and some clear Protein Drink. I have had 4 previous abdominal surgeries, 1 open, 3 laparoscopic and this is, by far, the least painful. I have not needed any of the prescribed narcotic pain relievers sent home with me. Had to go back to the hospital yesterday for a blood test. There is history of DVT blood clots, so I have to be on injectable blood thinners for 3 weeks. The blood test was to check the therapeutic level of the medicine. So, I don't have to return to work until January 6, so I’m going to enjoy my staycation and holidays.

I agree with all of this ^^^^^ i was not offered a block when I got my sleeve done. I was a few weeks ago when I had rny revision. The block made a major difference in pain levels. Good luck to all of you!

revise from Band to sleeve with a low BMI... Cash pay?
kah1213 replied to BayougirlMrsS's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My doc wouldn’t revise to sleeve after emergency band removal unless I gained back to 30 BMI which is so disheartening. Fortunately I was able to go to Mexico for the revision last month. -
A Tale of Two Arm Lifts (rs & ms.sss)
ms.sss replied to ms.sss's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
im here for 2 nights...heading home tomorrow afternoon. am glad to be here as i've got round clock care and help. i asked my surgeon if i could stay till xmas. he laughed. i wasnt joking. im pretty drugged up so minimal to no pain. so i was going to write a post about this to explain, but i cant seem to stay awake long enough to finish, so i'll just give a heads up now...i ended up adding a tummy tuck last minute yesterday...so that means i had a tt, an arm lift & a breast reduction revision aka breast lift yesterday. so when the drugs wear off, im in a good bit of pain from the TT, very minor pain on my left elbow from the arm lift, and no pain at all from breast lift. i'll tell the story of the surprise tummy tuck in anothr post. yeah i looked when nurse changed my dressing...not gory at all, and looked like a nice thin straigt-ish line, i think. and ya no drains in my arms, but i have 2 in my tummy incision...and they are annoying. k tired of typing again. time for a break -
Same exact thing happened to me. I never lost my real appetite after the sleeve like many others do. I revised to rny a few weeks back due to a hernia and gerd. So far I have had zero appetite. Enjoying it while I can because I feel certain that it will be back.

work after surgery
Tillawen replied to AnnaBanana333's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Went back to work a week and a half after bypass today...I work from home & do a desk job. Unfortunately wasn't possible to take anymore time off. Was definitely worn out by the end of the day, but part of that had to do with not sleeping well and being awake since 5am. I'm also still taking pain medicine, and dealing with various aches so I'm sure that contributed too. If I had to be up on my feet all day I'd definitely want more time off than a week and a half, probably more like 3-4. -
New to this page. Had sleeve done 11/15/19
Bastian replied to Rolltide87's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a horrendous time in August but my stomach completely twisted itself right after my sleeve so I was in the hospital for 2 weeks then had an emergency bypass. The odd person here has a tough time. As a nurse, I shall remind you to take your pain relief regularly NOT just when the pain is worse because you need to keep on top of moderate pain not wait until you are in agony ok? Always have 1 dose at bedtime too. Also, don't forget this IS major surgery even if it was key-hole, give your body time to heal gently, take it easy and remember 6 weeks until your innards are healed. You will get there and you aren't alone xx -
revise from Band to sleeve with a low BMI... Cash pay?
MysteryJess replied to BayougirlMrsS's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was banded in 2009 also and was at my goal weight for about 9 years. Then I started having issues where I couldn't keep any food down and I lost down to 129 pounds and I am 5'8. My surgeon removed all of the fluid from the band and I gained 40 pounds in 4 months. My insurance paid for the band to sleeve revision and my BMI was 26 and I have no co-morbidity factors like high blood pressure or diabetes. I guess it is all on how your dr. writes it up. If you are having "issues" with the band, which slippage is a major issue, then you should be able to get it paid for by your insurance. -
