Sleeve to bypass weight loss concern

Oh yeah, I had just progressed into Barrett's but they think it's early stage and reversible. So insurance approval was rapid. I was rejected for LINX because they don't approve it for that if you have Barrett's, they want something more permanent and less experimental. Revision to GBP is such a different experience. I get full on 2 TB of dense protein but something like soup or pureed ground turkey with taco seasoning I can already have like 6 ounces. It really just depends on what's going to camp out in the pouch and what's going to slide through, so it's a bit easier to "trick" than a sleeve that would get full with liquids or anything else. They really aren't prepared to deal with people under 30 BMI getting GBP so I went to all the classes (and got asked who I was there supporting). After VSG and abdominoplasty (excess skin), the scar tissue made my incision pain much higher (I also had a hernia repair and I'm guessing you will need that too). And since they don't alter or VSG except for making the pouch, you will be hungry. It gets better each day but revision is for sure harder, especially when, in my case, I was fine with my existing weight but was miserable with GERD (which I never had pre-sleeve) and it's like I just want the GERD fixed I don't want to go through a whole transformational process again.

Sleeve to bypass weight loss concern

I was sleeved in 2012 and revised to GBP on 12/16/19 (3 weeks ago) at a 28 BMI. I was at close to my pre-sleeve goal weight but not my post-op maintenance weight, but still relatively fit. I have surprisingly lost 17# in 3 weeks which is a faster # and % of BMI than my sleeve -- and I was 320# then! So yeah you are going to lose weight. I don't know when it will stop since I'm 3 weeks out. I don't want to lose more than 10-15#, and I'd be fine stopping here since I'm almost under 25 BMI already. I get it, I hate how drawn I looked after rapid weight loss. I read somewhere on here that peanut butter was how one woman maintained post-op with a restricted capacity. I had a larger pouch and less bypassed than typical but that doesn't really help much the first few months when everything is inflammed. I am making a homemade egg drop soup most nights to get my calories over 1200 and it's good.

    Regaining weight

I just read an article that 50% of sleeves patients regain their weight back!!! Is this true? I’m feeling some type of way. How does this happen? I just got sleeved and my insurance only gives one bariatric surgery a lifetime. I chose the sleeve, mainly because I was afraid of losing too much weight with the bypass. I will stay focused each day and do what needs done, and thank my higher power for this new chance at life.

    January 2020 Surgery Date

Hi everyone I’m having a gastric bypass to day at 11am because of my reflux disease and hernia will be dealt with as well, I am over weight but I’m not the biggest I have been, but have not had much appetite for a long time due to reflux which is a good thing in a way as it has changed my relationship with food so it makes this journey easier. Hope everyone’s surgery goes well [emoji3] I’m in England Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Hi I have just joined I am having my gastric bypass surgery tomorrow/ to day now as it’s past midnight so I have to be at the hospital at 11am, excited, nervous and everything else, I’m having this done because my reflux disease is so bad but I’m also over weight and have been for many years, I’m definitely not the biggest I have been but need my body to repair so it’s a new year and definitely a new start, here’s to a slimmer 2020 and reflux free [emoji1696][emoji1696], good luck to everyone on your journey [emoji3] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. It's true that GBP (revision) patients maintain at least a 10% or more weight loss than sleeve, so theoretically revision is just giving yourself a better chance. I revised for acid reflux and "only" had regained ~ 25# of 130# lost and was still < 30 BMI at revision. But I will say that losing the 17# I have lost since 12/16, which is a higher rate as a % and # as compared to sleeve, has made me much happier. With that said, I'm only 3 weeks out so I'm actually scared I will lose more than I want and look like an old man again with that drawn face. And then I'm scared that I'm going to regain as well. I guess I'll never be happy. Listen, our stomachs/bodies often betray us and make us hungrier than we need to be. And the food supply is stacked against healthy eating. So if you can get a revision to keep more weight off then I would do it whenever you are ready. It's a tough, tough, battle out there. If you have acid reflux, however, I wouldn't hesitate to revise sooner than later. I developed Barrett's Esophagus which is miserable to get at 44 and I'm hoping will go away with some healing.

My mother said she no longer wants to talk or see me anymore.

Technically I'm use to being treated worse than dirt to my mother and the other women in the family. It was just that I hadn't even told or talked to mommy dearest in over 3 weeks. Never told her about the surgery coming up. For some reason why I can't fathom but my wife let her know I was in surgery. She didn't even ask my wife what happened or why I'm having surgery. My wife just came out with he's having a gastric bypass. That's when my wife realized that she messed up telling mother. So she cut off the text and my mother blew up my phone with multiple text cussing me and her. She deleted all my text so I wouldn't see them. It's just a fucked up situation!
  8. I had sleeve in September 2016. I’ve regained 50 of the 130 pounds I lost and don’t believe I can get back to where I was and stay there indefinitely. I think it’s too soon for me to be thinking about revision without spending at least six months making a hard effort to lose the weight. Frankly, I’m depressed as hell and can’t stop thinking about being fat.

Sleeve to bypass weight loss concern

I wanted the sleeve but my doctor said the heartburn after a sleeve was horrible and he would only do the bypass. I was thinking the other day I wish I had fought him this until I’m reading your stories of the pain you’re dealing with. I’m so sorry you all are having such pain.

    Oh, Just Another Plastics Story

ROFL. I guess I will be a self-pay, too. I guess it's not "enough" loose skin for insurance to pay (ok, I won't exclude being lucky so lets wait and see, I'm financially prepared already for the worst case though). I'm looking into the Avelar technique and would have to go to Austria then but I essentially cancelled all the thoughts about plastics (well, almost all thoughts...) when surgeons recommended a revision and told me to expect another 10% weight loss. 6.something kg doesn't sound that much but at a height of 167 cm it means more than two BMI points. However, I can have a mommy makeover myself then when the time comes around. Surgeons in Germany usually don't do breasts and tummy in one sitting when insurance covers the procedures because of how hospital stays are paid. (Germany's health care system is sick in its own special way.) ETA: Yes, gotta see the bright site of being a self-pay. One can get what's medically safe and not what some insurance company thinks they're going to pay for.

    Oh, Just Another Plastics Story

I have to do my anastomosis revision and hiatoplastic/gastropexia first I guess. πŸ˜” Surgeon said that patients can have an additional 10% weight loss after this. So I definitely don't want to rush the plastics stuff.

    ❀My Revision Story❀

I can eat around the same amount as VSG. You may or may not feel additional restriction because of the revision. (The pyloric valve will no longer be there so measuring and eating by recommended amounts may be needed. This is why some people, not everyone, feel like they can eat more after revision) The process is slow going trying new foods after conversion but my eating is now nearly the same as with VSG I dumped with VSG so I had to learn to be careful way back then I'm just even more careful now. If it even looks too sweet/rich i completely avoid it. Hope that helps πŸ’š
  13. How much can you eat? Can you eat all foods you ate before the revision ?

1.5 years out & still throwing up?

It is nice to know I’m not alone, but I hate that it’s happening to you. They’re revising me to bypass, which I didn’t want, but it’s the best option for me.
  15. Sigh. Never thought I’d post something like this online, but I’m freaking out a bit & need advice! Also this could very much be TMI for many, so if it is, I apologize. I had major complications after my sleeve (4/2018). My new surgeon figured it all out, and I’m being revised to a bypass January 13th. I’m currently on my presurg liquid diet. I have a new boyfriend, and we slept together for the first time tonight. (Yay!) I have the Mirena IUD. It’s >99% effective for preventing pregnancy. This is why I have it. We used a condom the first go, but the 2nd & 3rd tonight... well, we didn’t. I know they’ll do a pregnancy test at the hospital before surgery, and they will cancel it if I test positive. So here’s my question - for that less than 1% chance, should I take Plan B just to be safe for surgery? I hate worrying over this. This is why I got to IUD... to not worry! But now I’m paranoid that this could mess up my revision. (Please don’t lecture me. I’m freaked out enough. Just need some honest advice. Thanks! πŸ’œ)

    SLEEVE regret

@LeaG I'm in SoCal and am looking for a surgeon. Which Dr. did your bypass and which Dr. is doing the Sleeve? I want to know who to go to and how to avoid here.

    NKCH/ Dr. Berghoff

I just went to him to get my acid reflux fixed, he does the LINX and also weight loss surgery. He recommended a revision to full bypass for me but my insurance just denied me. He seems really nice and knowledgeable so I'm sure you'll be fine.
  19. For anybody wanting to know I had my gastric bypass done in Tijuana Mexico by Pompeii Surgical. My surgeon was Dr.Q and I have has no problems since. I've lost 51lbs since surgery on October 16th 2019. Their process was easy by applying for it , then getting approved to have a weightloss procedure , to applying for financing . And it was a piece of cake. I have pictures attached of my progress and my videos can be found on Youtibe under Deadspacegrave. Thanks. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    My Story:

My name is Yvonne , I'm 29 years old and I'm from Texas. I have one child that is 5 years old going to be 6 soon and shes my only one so far. I been wanting bariatric surgery since I was 16 because weight has always been in control of my life. I previously lost 86lbs on my own but regained it after I got out of the Army. I had the RNY gastric bypass 10/16/19 and I've lost 51lbs since. I feel great other than a occasional cramp every now and then. I dropped in shirt sizes from 3X to 1X and a pant size from a 22 to a 14. I feel much healthier and I wished I had done it sooner! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Help!!! Staled in 3 months!!!! WHY??

I'm right there with ya. I had bypass on 9/24 and the scale hasn't moved for 3 weeks now.
  23. Hi All I had a gastric bypass done on the 16th December 2019 and followed all the guidelines. I have been having soup, yogurt or jelly but now before I go on to the puree foods stage I find I am hungry all the time. I was told that this wouldn't happen. I can also drink as much as I want all the time. I am just confused as to why I am hungry all the time, when at first I was always full. Has anyone else felt like this? Weight loss has stopped now. I have lost a total of 12Lb after gaining 2LB last few days. Thankyou

    What if it doesn't work?

It will work as long as you trust the tool , bypass or whatever, and trusting in the process. There will be times that you'll go through plateaus but losing weight after bariatric surgery is like a staircase . You'll lose weight for a certain amount of time and then you'll plateau. Then vice versa . And dont weigh yourself everyday , only once a week otherwise you'll cause yourself disappointment for no reason. Another thing , this lifelong change you'll need to be absolutely disciplined on eating healthy forever. If you decide to cheat , your body will make you pay for it trust me. If you have any questions about the bypass, I'm 2.5 months post op Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
