Pain at 3 weeks post op

Omg! Same here! However, I am only one week post op. The pain is such I came looking for answers to see if this was common.
  2. I’m 3 weeks post op and everything as far as eating and drinking is going great. However, I still have significant pain around my left and right lower abdomen. Right around my 2 bigger incision sites. Like when I stand from sitting or when I bend over. It’s very painful & sleeping on my side is still a no go. Is this normal? I’m sure I’m still swollen in there but it almost seems just as bad as my first day. Just wondering if I should bring it up to my doctor or give it more time.

Went to see my doctor today....

I'm actually enjoying it I'm on the last week of my last class, and I just got hired at a new company with pay that is $22k per year more than I was making before (and I was already making good money). But as much as I love all of that, the weight and health improvements I'm seeing are so, so much better. I can always find another job, or finish a degree. But I can't get another me. You know?
  4. Was over 50, lived alone, no children & wasn’t working at the time & I managed fine alone. Had a friend drop me off & pick me up from the hospital. She txt everyday to check on me as did another friend & my mum. They were the only ones I had told at the time. My neighbours knew I had surgery as I’d asked if they would mind taking out my bin for collection. They also offered to get anything I needed from the store. Honestly, I enjoyed just pottering around my house doing what I needed when I wanted &/or was up to doing it after the surgery. No demands or expectations from any one else. I spent a lot of time resting on my couch reading a bit, watching a bit of tv & dozing. I made sure I had everything I needed for the first two weeks post surgery before my operation: variety of shakes, broths & soups, hydralyte or similar electrolyte drink, over the counter meds (non NSAID pain relief, gasX, immodium, Benefibre, etc.). & so on. Some surgeons give you your scripts before your surgery so get them filled too. (I got mine while at the hospital & they filled them there before I was discharged.) Might be an opportunity to knock on a neighbour’s door & introduce yourself. I did when I moved into my new home. Both sides had children & one couple worked while the other didn’t. You don’t have to become best friends but it’s nice to have someone next door who is there if needed. We often do each other’s bins, collect mail, have a chat over the fence, keep an eye on each other’s places if we’re away & even the odd glass of wine or cup of tea.
  5. You guys aren't alone. I thought for sure at my appointment today I was going to end up back in the hospital. I was so happy when he told me it was a hematoma. Infections stink though, I hope you heal quickly. A friend of mine who had surgery last week too, has a yeast infection and isn't able to keep down her protein well. We have been brainstorming. Slow and steady. Feel better.
  6. Had a fantastic appointment!!! Today I am exactly 4 1/2 months post op and I've lost 76 pounds!!! My blood sugar was 108 (had my a1c tested, waiting on that). My hematocrit (I always had iron deficient anemia - low red blood cell count, so the higher the hematocrit, the better the iron level) is at 46. My protein is at 8.2. My blood pressure was 113/70. And she agreed that since I work out 5 days per week and everything looks good, we can start to wean me off the Celebrex (anti-inflammatory for joint and muscle pain) and start to increase the turmeric (we've been doing this little by little but we're going to go a little bit bigger and faster now and see how it goes). I am currently off 4 meds. If I can get off the Celebrex, that'll be 5 meds gone!!! That's all I can get rid of since the rest are for my MS and my GERD issues (scope was rescheduled to this Friday to find out more about what's going on there). Here's a pic pre-op and a pic my hubby took today
  7. I am 3 weeks post-op revision from sleeve to bypass. I have only lost 14 lbs in total since surgery. I have been following my plan and increasing my protein. I brought up my concerns at my follow up and the surgeon said I most likely will not lose anymore weight. I am extremely frustrated and discouraged. Only thing is my gerd is better but I am and was hoping for additional weight loss since I gained about 50 lbs since my original sleeve surgery 5 years ago.. due to pregnancy and gerd. Anyone else in this boat or experience this on their journey that can help me out!
  8. I went through that last week and now I am kicking myself for worrying so much. The first few days are painful but it is so much easier now. I start pureed foods in a day Surgery 9/12 Good Luck, you got this.
  9. Hi guys! I got my sleeve in 2015 and never really felt any restriction. I counted calories and was able to drop 60 lbs my first 3 months… and then my life exploded. The stress I was under made counting calories impossible. I still ate healthy foods for the most part but I stalled out for a full year and then slowly the weight started creeping back until I was only 15 lbs below my starting weight. Well, now my GERD is pretty bad and my father has esophageal cancer so I need a revision as much as I don’t want to go under the knife again. The thing is, I’m currently 86 lbs down from presurgery weight in 2015 and I keep losing! Ozempic and these other injectable meds for diabetes are game changers! I wish they had come up with this stuff decades ago! Of course between the GERD and the side effects I’m often nauseous if not throwing up on occasion but I’m hoping my revision will help with some of that. Has anyone else combined Ozempic (Wegovy) with a revision to RNY? My doc says I can keep taking it after surgery but at $300 plus international shipping I’m hoping I won’t need to!
  10. Yes and I do thank you for your response. That may be due to situations of stretching the pouch but the gastric fundas doesn’t apply to that as I was told but regardless of overeating the pouch itself will eventually stretch but this doesn’t apply to me because my weight is of the same with a couple pounds of gain due to an unrelated surgical procedure(fibroids) but now it’s more so constantly losing due to inability to swallow but no blockage according to the endoscopy. To answer your question, the fundus is retained. Never was removed or wasn’t removed as it was supposed to be. Immediately post op I had within weeks gas, bloating, stomach pangs, etc while still losing weight. The fund as itself have created more health issues with severe acid reflux and dysphasia.

    Before and After Pics

As of today, I am 4 1/2 months post op and I have lost 76 pounds. I work out 5 days per week, I eat keto, I had gastric sleeve, and I am VERY strict with what goes into my body. My iron, blood sugar, and blood pressure are all normal and I'm no longer on any meds for them. Here's a pre surgery pic and a pic my hubby just now took of me. Notice a difference? LOL
  12. Me again . 5 days out now since rny surgery. My taste Buds have changed so much since the 2 week liquid hell a d now this week I am really struggling everything is so sweet on this clear liquid diet I can't take it anymore. Pain on left side

Everyone pretty much nailed it here. It is gas...some get relief from heating pads, others get relief from moving. I walked a lot in the first week or so and it really helped with that for me.
  14. I think you will be fine....only the first day or so is an issue for the physical part of things. After that, if you need help or advice, that is what we are all here for. We have gone through it and can ease your concerns or tell you how we got through various things like stalls, vomiting, bloating, constipation etc, etc as well as understand all the Non Scale victories you will inevitably come across.
  15. I live alone, hundreds of miles from any family, and I didn’t tell anyone about my surgery other than health care professionals. I really didn’t have any issues. I took a taxi to the hospital and hired a home health care aid to take me home. The hospital said they wouldn’t allow me to take a taxi/Uber home but they didn’t check and I totally could have, but the home health care aid didn’t cost much more than a taxi and she picked up my prescriptions and brought my bag in the house, so that was good. Plus, I had no idea how well or poorly I would be feeling when I got discharged, so it was nice to have that peace of mind. I had surgery on a Thursday, took the next week off of work, and went back the following Monday. I could have gone back much sooner, but it was good to have the week off so I could get used to my new situation (like having to sip tiny amounts to stay hydrated and get protein). I didn’t need any help taking care of myself. I didn’t have any pain by the time I got home. I was a little tired but functional. If I recall correctly, I wasn’t allowed to lift more than 20 pounds for the first 6 weeks, but I didn’t have any need to do so. I think my easy recovery was pretty typical of most WLS patients these days, but there’s always a chance you’ll have complications, so it’s a good idea to have a contingency plan in case you do need help.
  16. Hello to all. I had a Gastric Sleeve in 2019. Yes I’m old to this but here’s my problem and please to the newbies or to those who are thinking of having a Gastric sleeve, make sure the surgeon completely remove your fundus. The Gastric fundus prohibits inferior weights loss. I loss approximately 85 pounds within a 3 years time because of this and went into complete stalling. The surgeons kept over telling me I’m overeating which I told them I’m not. I just now found out my fundus is intake and wasn’t removed. I’ve been so sick from 2019 til present (2022) with stomach issues but CT scans during my emergency room visits shortly after surgery all come back normal. Nonetheless, I just suffered and stop trying to seek help until this year my acid reflux and swallowing started to interfere with my daily life. So the ER suggested a ENDOSCOPY in which the results come back as A Gastric Fundus is Generous and Mild Gastric lining Thickening. After researching, I found that the gastric sleeve was supposedly be removed. I don’t want any more revisions of surgeries but to not be sick, I will decide on it. Again, please inquire of this. Do your research on the topic of a “Retained Gastric Fundus” after weight loss surgery. Have anybody dealt with this and if so, what did you do? Lets be of help to one another with truth and honesty.

  18. I Am Enough!

    August surgery buddies!

Hi Sam! Yes, those first few weeks are the hardest to endure, but I promise you it DOES get better! Be kind and safe with your new tummy. My diet during that time was everything needs to be real moist. I ate a lot of babyfood. I know that bothers some folks, but there is a wonderful selection of pureed babyfoods that a super gentle on the tummy. Amazon and Walmart carry quite a few varieties and many are organic too. I ate recipes such as grits and eggs with instant grits. Highly processed oatmeal, like the babyfood variety. Malt-o-meal. These were really good go to staples. Plus I would make SF pudding with my protein drink and add a little almond milk. Then my pudding had a protein base. I hope you feel better soon!
  19. Thank you for sharing. I've been very depressed about my weight loss. I started at 258 November.. now 189. I've not lost any weight in 3 months. I know I'm not eating enough. I am not able to workout due to health issues. I just can't go down anymore. In so scared of being like I was again. I can't afford to keep going to the nutritionist to tell me to eat more. I really try.. so discouraged Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. Congrats to all my October buddies. My surgery date is October 3rd. I started my pre-op liquid diet yesterday and it seems surprisingly easy. I do wonder how I will feel about it next week though. I am isolated in my daily life. I am over 50, single with no kids at home or nearby, I work from home and live in a suburban area that is mostly made up of families and traveling plant workers and I don't know anyone - no support system in place. Who else is going through this completely alone? I am arranging paid transportation to the med center and a paid medical transport to bring me home following the procedure. For those of you who have had to go through this by yourself, did you feel able to manage alone post-op? What was the most difficult thing?

    Six months

Whelp six months post op tomorrow! I still do not have "hunger" but I find myself more snacky over the last few weeks. It is annoying. I still stay within my plan limits 98% of the time, sometimes going over my calories (within 100) but usually with still healthier snacks and foods. I have been eating out more because life is so crazy and hectic right now, which I need to chill there too. We are going to Florida/Disney the first week of October so I will be forced to eat out then, which is just another reason to stop now. Overall I really don't have any complaints. No issues, and still kicking butt. I see my surgeon for my 6 month check up next week and I am still ahead of the predicted weight loss chart he gave me. I am JUST NOW starting to really see my weight loss in full body pictures. Even more so since I have been wearing clothes that fit rather than huge and falling off. Tons of friends have been commenting and sending me inspiring messages or when they see me say something. It is kind of nice that people are noticing the work I am putting in. Regardless of that, when I saw pictures of myself from the weekend I was like WHOA who is this person?!?! Flipside, I look like a half deflated water balloon naked. 😂😝 HAHA! KEEP GOING PEOPLE- WE GOT THIS! 6 months and hit 100 lbs loss today since surgery and 137 total!
  23. I basically lived on these for the first 3-4 months: - 1 scoop Isopure Low Carb Dutch Chocolate Protein Powder - 1 tsp decaf instant coffee crystals - 2 tsp Benefibre - 1 cup of ice - fill up with water to make 500ml Blend and Enjoy! 25g protein, yummy and helps to keep u regular! Now i don’t like sweet drinks and the Dutch Chocolate flavour was the least sweet of all the protein powders i tried. So if you prefer sweet, this may not be for you. I also liked (and still do) to drink carbonated water (i.e., Perrier or similar) with a squeeze of lemon. But again if, like me, you like non-sweet drinks.

  25. Hi everyone, thank you all for your interest ! My doctor is not very available, I regret sooo much to had it done by him. I'm at an average of 1200-1300cal a day. Is it too much ? Since the second month I was able to eat more that my fellow surgery buddies who got it at the same time as me but again, we think the doctor did my gastric sleeve a bit larger since I only had 70lbs to loose. Go to work by walk, but that's it. I'm aware that I should exercise more. I eat regarding to my pcos and hormonal imbalances. Cutting calories does not work for me, I have insulin resistance. Metformin does not work for me either (stomach pain), I use ovasitol now. As I said, rarely eat between meals, even if I do it's mostly protein. I've got an appointment the next month, will see with the nutritionist. The weird thing is, I've lost like 15 pounds the first month, then nothing for 3 months, then 8 lbs again a month, then nothing for 2 months again and on until a loss of 33lbs. Only lost 2 pounds last months. Very irregular. I hope to see a change until the end of this year. I don't put a lot of pressure because I know I've got insulin resistance and a lower bmi and I was aware that it would be slower than others, but it's hard as you may all know. Thank you again
