  1. i'm 18 years old, & i'm a senior in high school. i was banded on Tuesday the 5th, home Wednesday the 6th, and i returned to school Monday the 11th. honestly, i felt worse at home than i did when i was around other people. it also helped me to focus on other things besides my hunger. you should be able to return to school within a week, i don't see why that would be any problem as long as you recover quickly enough. you're young, so you should be good. as for Protein shakes, yes i have one or two a day depending on how much protein i had gotten for that day. [typically, a Protein shake, a yogurt, and a milk at lunch will fulfill my protein requirement] my mom makes the shakes for me, but we use jillian michaels [that mean ass trainer from the biggest loser] whey protein. i prefer the vanilla to the chocolate. to that we use milk instead of Water, so you get even MORE protein in one shot, and we also add a little bit of pudding [it really really helps the flavor] and in the mornings, i get half a banana. i am driving. i have no problem driving at all. at first it was a bit difficult, but that only lasted the very first time i got behind the wheel. i'm serious when i tell you that i feel just like i did before the surgery, probably better. it IS going to be hard though not being able to eat. when my family is making dinner its so hard. because you WANT to eat the food, but you can't because your stomach needs to heal and it is so frustrating. i would suggest getting yoplait for when you're on the yogurt stage because they have such a variety of flavor that you really don't get bored. my favorite is cinnamon roll and it is delicious. i get the dessert flavors because it tastes more like a meal then lol. feel free to ask any questions! i'm more than happy to answer.

    me and protein don't mix

I HATE protein! It makes me sick to my stomach, also! I found one shake that I can take, but it takes all day to try and get it down. It is premier protein, I got it at Sam's and it has 30 g. I am able to eat yogurt now. The best one so far is Dannon Light and fit GREEK. They have strawberry, blueberry, and vanilla. They have 80 cals. and 12g of protein. I eat 3 a day right now to get my amount of protein. Much better then the shakes and powder.
  3. Yogurt is all over my lcd monitor!! I've dated from Athletic to MO... I can honestly say that I need something to hold onto, so yes I like'em big. I always said no one bigger than I am. So, I guess no one bigger than me at my largest. My friend had gastric bypass, and still dates and loves Larger women...

    Road to "TWOterville"

grats babygrl  you are doing great! LapBandit, it is not dorky at all, I think it's nice. As for me, I had a bad spell with a pill last night and now today everything hurts to eat, slimed once, no PB's. I think it's liquids for me for a few days. I swell so easy. I am gonna have to get my hubby to pick me up some rtd protien shakes from the store. I do love the atkins shakes. What a time to run out of protein! Anyway, it was hard to even eat yogurt tonight so it's definitely liquids. Does anyone think it's possible I have something lodged in the stoma? I'd think if I did I'd be PB'ing like crazy.

    Ice Cream Yet?

I ate ice cream week 2 and 3 after surgery. I was only getting about 300 calories and really couldn't get much else in. Now that I'm eating more regular food, if I need something its either SF Popsicle or FF frozen yogurt. It has the same numbers as regular non-fat yogurt.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Denise - Were do you get peanut butter powder?? I love peanut butter.. I tried the matrix green apple but made the mistake of putting it in the blender - but didn't care for the taste anyway- someone said the cookies and cream was good - The shakes are usually too sweet for me - i like the ones i make w/yogurt & fruit & pt powder the best. Thanks Crabcake - Like that "new" - I'm half way there -A few of us on the Lucky #7 (July Banders) thread have been posting our preop & current pictures - we are 3 months out.. Thanks Green - Love the 50 - 30 just like our age

    Any other September 2013 bandsters?

It's amazing to me how different everyone's pre-op diet is determined by different doctors!! I am to use 4 protein carb controlled shakes ( they gave me a list of types) and 6 snacks a day that consist of my choice out of 1/2 c oatmeal, 1 cup tomato or v-8 juice, 1 cup raw veggies ( a list was given to choose from), a list and amounts of different fruits to choose from, sugar free pudding or jello, and light yogurts. I am on day 4 and am HUNGRY for some reason today!! I am a little overwhelmed with the thought of how my life will change after having the surgery but am exited all the same.

    February '09 bandsters?

I had my surgery on the 24th and i'm feeling pretty good. The only incision that hurt was the port site but even that one is tolerable now. I'm supposed to stay on liquids for 2 weeks post op. I noticed some of you guys were allowed mashed potatoes or yogurt on your post op diets. How have you tolerated that. I'm starving and don't wanna screw up and go nuts eating crap cuz I'm so hungry . I'm so sick of liquids a yogurt would seem like a steak right now!

    Any other September 2013 bandsters?

OK, so i kinda cheated today. I am still on liquids only + yogurt for 2 more days and I broke down added an egg to my chicken broth. I am allowed poached eggs in 2 days. I tried to make my own egg drop soup, but I guess the broth wasn't hot enough and it just turned cloudy. I heated it up some more and omg it was delish!! I hope it continues down my digestive tract as happily as it went in. LOL

    How is 1200 Calories enough?

Ok I have to admit I have not been adding up my calories so I just went and did it, Today I had 550 calories and I would say that pretty much represents my days. For Breakfast Protein shake: 110 Snack greek yogurt with berries 145 lunch 3 turkey meat balls and some green Beans 150 A bite of a bagel (not typical) 35 calories dinner 2 Asian spring rolls (trader joes) 100 calories Each meal I could not get any more food in, so now I am am making myself have some apple with almond butter. How do I get more calories in if I am full??? I frustrated because I am in a stall and I am sure it is from starvation mode. I excerise 30 minutes in the morning doing step aerobics on the Wii.
  11. Lilly, So funny that you posted the question to Amy about post-surgery eating. I was coming here to aske the same question!! I dont think I have to do all shakes beforehand. If I recall correctly, I can have Soups, yogurts, and puddings too. I can also do the Carnation Instant Breakfasts too. I have a required 2 hour education course next week, so I'll get the official info then. Btw Lily, so jealous you are 18! You have your whole life ahead of you!! This is going to be such an amazing experience for you!! Looking forward for all of us to take this journey together!

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Denise Water coming up while you were sleeping sounds scary. How long did you wait before you got a defill? I don't have any problem with anything coming up when I lay down nor have I had heartburn. I just tried to eat some yogurt but it sends those belches up that is like pbing. I'll go back to liquids. I do fine with cream of mushroom soup. I can even soak a few crackers in it. How long do you think is too long before slippage or erosioin becomes a problem?

Mayo Banditos / Friday Weigh In !!!!

I haven't been here in a couple weeks. I just had my second fill this past week on Tuesday, I missed Friday for weighing in, but today Im at 198! I finally got below 200, Wow. Havent seen that in like 14 yrs. Only bad thing is, I think my second fill is too much. I dont understand, she only put 1cc in, and I felt like I needed one. The weight loss picked up wonderfully, but I cant keep anything down. All I can do is liquid or protein shakes. Everyday I try a little soft food, but it feels stuck every time. I actually got some yogurt in ok yesterday, found out I can only hold 2 ounces. Weird. I guess Ill be calling them on Monday if this doesnt get a little better. Im still not complaining tho. I'm just happy to see Onederland!)

    Any July 2011 Bandsters?

Hi, all! I started my pre-op diet today (daily: 2 Protein shakes, 1 bowl of Soup, 1 yogurt, 1/2 cup cottage cheese and unlimited sugar-free jello) and I am STARVING. And cranky, too! I'm glad that my dr. doesn't require me to give up caffeine, though--I don't think I could take that on top of how I'm feeling right now. Those of you who have already started the pre-op diet: this does get better, right?

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Hi all. I haven't posted in a while. I went for my 1 week check up and my doc told me I could progress to soft foods for a week and the move to solids, going slowly and testing the foods to make sure I did ok. I have had egg salad, refried beans, yogurt, black bean soup, and today, watermelon. The watermelon was devine. and easy to eat. Indiogirl, I pray that your tests turn out as well as your sister's.

jerseygirl I'm in a similar situation...I've started eating yogurt with Protein Powder for Breakfast, today I'm going to try premade tuna salad in a cup I've been eating Soups at lunch the meat and soft veggies and dinner I made some meat with condensed mushroom Soup (don't add water) in the crockpot cooks it very tender. I've been adding sugar free popcicles of some sort in the evening or a Protein Shake. I also eat low fat piminto (sp) spread or cream cheese on Triscuts, I can only eat a couple of these but they go down ok and don't get stuck. I find the rules they've been telling us about all this time really have to be stuck to at this point that's why I was feeling so bad a few weeks ago eating to much, to big, not chewing... I still can't get a lot of Water and my milk consumption is down but a small meal last me a long time. The whole thing makes Kirk feel bad cause when he's home and we go out I order a side of mashed potatoes and eat a quarter of it.
  17. Ok, I'm freaking out! I'm about 1 week post op and i'm experiencing these weird stomach pains that come and go! Feels like small contractions! I've been doing pretty well on the liquid diet, but tonight I had a small amount of yogurt mixed with my medications (yuck) right before bedtime and then a little while after that the pains started! Has this happened to anyone else? Help! Was the yogurt maybe too thick?
  18. Hi there! I had a VSG in Regina on December 13 , 2010, so I'm one week post and so far, so good. I am the first VSG patient in Saskatchewan, so I'm looking for people in Canada that have had the it, are waiting for it, and anyone else. The surgery went well, and the doctor was very pleased with the results. I'm covered in huge purple bruises - but otherwise feel pretty good. I lost 20 pounds in the 2 weeks pre-surgery and am no sure how much since. My scale has decided not to work! Anyway, the long story is that I'm really having a tough time with the 2 week post-surgery liquid diet. I'm hungry and bored of drinking Protein shakes. Everything tastes the same. Help!!! I was told I can try mashed potatoes & gravy at Christmas and then start adding yogurt, cottage cheese etc. afer that, but I need some help to make it another week. Anyone else out there struggling? Any support/advice is welcome.
  19. I'm scheduled for the 23rd as well! I hope you're doing well on whatever pre-op diet they have you on. (I have to drink 3 slim fasts a day and applesauce/yogurt/pudding.) Good luck! I'm starting, for the first time, to get nervous. I had my first consultation on September, did all my pre-op testing in October/November and then had to find the money to pay a program fee. Finally, right after New Year's, I got to go to the last two appointments before they schedule surgery. I've been excited the whole time, but now, it's just starting to get nerve racking. I'm not worried about possible side effects, I trust my surgeon. I think I'm scared on what's on the other side. I'm 21 and I've been overweight since I was 12. I don't know what it's like to be thin. I've never experienced it. I think that's what I'm scared of. I don't know whose under all the fat. Anyone else feel that way?

    April Bandsters?

Still doing relatively okay. No energy though. The clear liquid diet leaves a lot to be desired. Thankfully tomorrow I can start with protein shakes, yogurt and creamy strained soups. I think that I have finally gotten past the gas stage. Last night I didn't need and GasX or heating pad and only had 1 pillow. WOOT WOOT!!! Well, today is another day. Hope everyone else is doing well.

    Road to "TWOterville"

I was sooooooo bad yesterday!!! I always tend to overdo it when I'm sick and (lucky me) I have strep and a sinus infection. So, I was already dealing with the munchies. Yesterday I took my son for ice cream. I ordered the fat free sugar free yogurt and the machine wasn't working...so I decided to have a regular chocolate cone. (my first bad) Then about an hour later, I'm at my parents for Father's Day and I see that they have the tastykake peanut butter candy cakes. I ate it! (my second bad!) Then after dinner I had a rice krispies treat! (my third bad) I was obviously have a "gimme something sweet" attack. Turns out that my "monthly friend" showed up this morning. I suppose that would explain the cravings. Yesterday was a bad, bad day!!!! LOL!!

Bunny Bandsters - April '09, MASTER THREAD #1

Oh Heather, I forgot: I'm not a good example as I don't track things except when I need to get back on track. When I do track, I usually keep it 1000-1200 cals. I hardly get in any fruit now and that's something I need to work on (I love fruit). A typical day: B - 1/2 serv. reg. oatmeal w/1.5 T soy protein powder & 1T Benefiber added, topped with several squirts of SF maple syrup (I have this every morning) - About 3 cups of coffee before B L (about .75-1C total) - Almost always leftovers and I start w/about 3-4 oz. of protein (it's usually chicken or beef) - 1/2C of veggies or 1/4 C veggies and 1/4 C of another side (sometimes a starch like potatoes or rice) D (about 1- 1.25 C total, I'm allowed 1.5 C, but I almost never eat that much) - I eat whatever my family is having for dinner (DH is the chef) so pretty similar to what I had for lunch. -I do try to eat the protein first, I only take a small spoonful of the 'bad carbs' (he's 'Mr. Potato Head'), and I usually end my dinner with one SF Russell Stover's chocolate (I don't eat a lot of SF/diet foods at all, but I'm a chocoholic and I love these, so it gives me something to look forward to and I don't feel deprived of my beloved chocolate). -I do drink alcohol in moderation- usually only on the weekends (both wine and beer-which I pour so it gets a lot of bubbles out, and yes my doc allows this)...yes, it's probably slowed my WL some to drink calories, but it's a lifestyle for me, not another diet. -I have 'traded' some items out, but still feel like I eat 'normally', just a lot less...ie. we have tacos one night most weeks- always have; I used to eat 5 + spanish rice, now I have traded the hard shells for a soft low carb tortilla (I think they're wheat) and I spread Greek Yogurt (I've traded this for reg. yogurt and sour cream and love it) on it and add 1/2C meat and some of the reg. toppings. I usually have a hard time finishing a whole 1. I never feel deprived or hungry...hope something in there helps. Great WL this week...way to go!! Fingers crossed that fill works for you. -BG

    Hi from Ireland!

Hi there everyone Today is the first day I've felt a bit more like myself, managed to have a decent sleep last night which has obviously helped! I really am so surprised that this op has taken so much out of me, I didn't expect to feel this wiped out - just as well I'm off work for the week, how can anyone go straight back to work after having this done?! Coco, hope you're well, stop beating yourself up about the eating, like you said, if you'd excellent willpower you wouldn't have been banded - I hear that!! Allure, it was good to read your posts, sounds like you've had a bit of a battle with the band. Still, look at what you've achieved in spite of it. Scrambled egg for me today - yum! I was so fed up just with the lack of texture of the yogurts and soup of the past few days. Can't wait to get these stitches out on Sunday and then back to work on Monday... well, not really too enthused about going back to work on Monday, but will be nice to get back to a normal daily routine, the daytime tv is doing my head in! Keep strong Debb

    Hi from Ireland!

Hi Ailbhe, I didn't go on a pre-op diet I was just told no alcahol for 48hrs before the op. It would depend on your bmi if you are above 45 it might be useful to go on the milk diet for a couple of weeks before surgery, what this does is it reduces your liver size and makes it easier for the surgeon to access your stomach. As for the last supper, there is no such thing, for the first week it will be difficult to eat (in my case the first three days:redface:), you will be able to eat fairly normally once the swelling starts to come down, and thats within the first week. I was told to eat a lot of protein in the first week post surgery, to aid healing. This was achieved by eating yogurts, low fat custard, rice puddings and slim fast or any good protein drink. It wasn't difficult to do this as I didn't really feel like proper food although as I said earlier I did have a few sneaky dips into my hubby's plate from about day three. This is the week when you will have your optimum weight loss. And in most cases it stays off and some people will even lose a little bit more before their first post op app. For most people and you just have to look back on this thread, we are begging for a fill by the first appointment. So don't worry about "the last supper" there is'nt one. Stock up on some low fat custard and rice pudding portions and some soup and protein drinks and also yogurts. Make things easy for yourself for the first week post op by having little or nothing to do. Accept any help thats offered and take it easy. The best of luck and do keep posting.
