  1. Finally I joined this forum because I need others help I had surgery January 30,2014 I'm three weeks two days out I have lost nearly 30lbs in two weeks ( not sure from where yet lol) but I see my hubby my kids eat and I just want to eat but all I have is water water water! I need recipes I'm over broth , soup, and yogurt!! I'm so depressed and already had severe depression and bipolar before surgery! I feel alone and weather doesn't help and I don't want to fail at this I'm tired of failing!!!!! But all I want is to eat, quit crying, and lose even a lb or two but all week stuck at same and I don't eat ugh
  2. I'll be on a liquid diet for two weeks before and then up to day 20 post op. I'll be stocking up on jello, SF pudding, yogurt, Crystal light, protein shakes and SF popsicles. I also bought the clear premier fruit punch drink and a protein broth powder (haven't tried either yet) and am trying to find an unflavored protein powder. And even though I don't like it, I bought some unsweetened applesauce.

    Any August 2017 Sleevers?

I use premire protein drink ! Its way better than powder milk! I remembered my mom use to use that stuff when i was a younster. That was back in the 1960s! Thats how far back that product goes & its still Nasty! I noticed on this forum that everyones Dr is different. For example I am 5 days post op & i can eat yogurt. Jello, cottage cheese & cream of wheat! So far Ive only eatten the greek vanilla yogurt, the jello with protein power added to it & sugar free popsciles! I hope all goes well with you & will have much success! Sent from my SM-T530NU using BariatricPal mobile app

Carol & Suzanne... yes, cinnamon does work to help regulate your blood sugar. I used to work at a spice company in Canada and our US head office has done a lot of research (medical research) and it seems pretty clear that cinnamon is really good in helping to regulate it. You don't need to take capsules, you get the same benefit from the actual ground cinnamon. I put a sprinkle in my coffee, on my cereal or yogurt. I use about 1/8 tsp a day and it certainly helps me. I'm diabetic, but have controlled my BS now for awhile... running & diet mostly, the the cinnamon helps! Ok... I haven't run since the weekend due to really poor nutrition. Even though I've switched to a liquid pennicillin, it is upsetting my stomach a lot. I'm not able to eat much without feeling sick, so have no energy to run at all. I have to take it until Sat morning, but hope to be able to run a bit before then. On the challenge front... KMF (not sure who that is in Nike+ world) has joined his/her runs in with Whosya, so now Whosya/KMF have overtaken us Hotties!!! Comeon ladies... we've got until Tuesday to kick his butt!!!

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Thanks Kathy! It feels soooo good to be losing again. I haven't been doing Atkins induction or anything, just keeping my carbs really low. I usually have a low carb slim fast for breakfast, a couple of slices of bacon and maybe a scrambled egg (if it will go down, lol) for lunch, and last night I had Mexican meatballs that I made in the crockpot. I am going to start adding in oatmeal before my runs. Sometimes I have half of a low carb tortilla wrap for snack. I make it with spinach dip instead of mayo, a thin slice deli meat, and sometimes a slice of cheese. If you like yogurt, get the greek yogurt. It has way fewer carbs and is full of protein. It's a bit tangy in taste if you buy the plain. I like the Oikos Blueberry greek yogurt. I think I am just one of those people who need to eat low carb to lose weight. Low carb diets are the only diets I have ever had success with. When I first got banded, I did low carb and the weight came off really fast. About 4 or 5 months ago I stopped low carbing and I had barely lost anything to speak of. If I can hang in there and do low carb until I reach my goal, I will modify my diet and start having more carbs. Since I am running, I think maintenance will be breeze.

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

I think I am going to call the doctor for an unfill. My fill was about 3 weeks ago. As of late, I am having trouble eating yogurt and even drinking fluid. It hurts in my chest and sometimes I hear this crazy gurgling sounds. I did okay for Thanksgiving dinner, but it has been down hill since then. I have not vomited, but the pressure everytime I eat soft foods or drink is driving me crazy. I plan to pick up my treadmill tomorrow if I am not at the doctor's office.

    Deviled Eggs?

I've recently discovered that Greek yogurt is a good substitute for cream cheese but I hadn't thought about mayo. I make great deviled eggs and I know at least my husband would love me to make more. Hmmm. Eggs are on sale this week.

    veg diet

Hi fellow veg! Weak and tired at this stage is normal. What food texture are you allowed to eat? Are you ovo-lacto? In my third week I was allowed mush. I had wet scrambled egg with cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, peanut butter, almond butter, vegan egg salad, veggie delites souffles.
  9. I feel pretty good but am a little hungry so I just had a fudge pop. I feel a lot better having something in my tummy rather than water and juice. Has anyone else moved onto the yogurt, pudding Etc type foods before day 10? I know everyone's docs have different rules and I don't intend on moving into the mushy stage till day 14 but anyone able to do the yogurt, pudding etc this early on without incident?

    March 2014 Sleevers

Hi all March 2014 Sleevers..! This is my first post, so here goes! My surgery was on 3/4. I am doing really well overall. I have GERD and did have some lingering discomfort when swallowing anything the first few days, but then it subsided. The first 3 days were Clear liquids only, which to me was the hardest b/c it's BORING. But honestly you're kinda beat, and not very hungry anyway. By day 4, when I could add full liquids I started with alot of Soups, and did ok with that. S.F. pudding, and greek yogurt become your friends too. Once I was able to add eggs, cheese, and soft fish I became extremely happy and hopeful. Protein IS A MUST PEOPLE! Find a good Protein shake, and stick with it. I get my 65-75gms of Protein a day by eating right, and those shakes give you 50gms on their own! Use them as a snack between your meals. I have been very optimistic from start to my current status. I never got down on myself or the process, but I totally understand how it can happen. Just know that this is going to change your life for the better! You may have some hiccups/roadblocks, but ultimately you will be a healthier you! Good luck to all the pre-surgery folks, and also to those who like me are just starting out. :-)

    March 2014 Sleevers

I'm beginning to think I need to quit reading some of these posts. I had my surgery 2 weeks ago today. I've only lost 7 lbs since surgery, the rest was pre-op. I had trouble with liquids and just this week tried yogurt and cottage cheese. I have to say, I am really glad you all are losing weight but it depresses the hell out of me.

    March 2014 Sleevers

I usually have half a packet of weight watchers oatmeal for breakfast, cheese stick for 10:30 snack, yogurt for lunch, I sip on clear protein drink all day (200 calories, but it gives me 48 grams of protein), and dinner is harder... I've had a few pieces of rotisserie chicken, sometimes fish, but it's rarely more than a few bites of anything.

Every surgeon is different. I am also on puree and I can have puree fruit and veggies as long as it isn't corn, celery or anything stringy. I can have puree chicken and tuna, mashed potatoes, puree eggs, vegetable juice, cottage cheese, milk, light Greek yogurt, puree soups, light margarine, light mayo or salad dressing, oatmeal, apple sauce, cream of wheat. Its a pretty big variety. Next appt is next Wednesday and hoping to progress to soft foods. Hope everyone is doing well.

    March 2014 Sleevers

071, Everyone is different for sure, but don't worry about the post-surgical pain. It should be a small bump in the long road ahead. Mine wasn't so bad. 3 wks out I still have a twinge or two, but nothing that is keeping me from doing anything. As for the protein, at first this will come in the form of drinks or shakes. I use Pure Protein Frosty Chocolate, 1 scoop, added to 1/2 c milk and some ice chips to make a shake. It's not bad at all. 2 a day gives you 50gms of protein, and then eating Greek 0% Fat yogurt a couple times, and your'e there. Protein will help you heal, and help you lose weight. Try and focus on the END RESULT, which will be worth the struggles at the beginning. You can do it!

    Snack ideas?

My go to Snacks are jerky, mixed nuts, apples and Peanut Butter, edamame, and plain Greek yogurt flavored with Protein powder or Torani syrup. But last week I found a new favorite snack..... Prosciutto and cream cheese "roll ups". Mmmmmm......
  17. Hello WLS community! Hope you are all well! I am 5 weeks post op. My surgery was May 11. I am finally on stage 5 based on my surgeons instructions. But I have started to experience nausua again. On week 2 when I saw my surgeon she said it was because I wasn't drinking enough fluids. I fixed that and felt much better. Now I am experiencing it again. It started Tues. Maybe I was dehydrated Tues but now even though I keep drinking water I still am feeling the nausea. It has slowed down my eating and trying new foods. I wondered if my stomach was also not comfortable with my new foods I have been trying. Did anyone experience this specifically in week 5. Note I went back to just eatings eggs, some yogurt, and trying to consume a lot of water. trying my best here. Would love to hear your experiences. Thanks, -Joe M.

    Throwing up

I'm 14 days out and on purée. I agree getting my nutrition from food alone is just not possible. I still am having 2 Protein shakes a day giving me 40 grams of protein strait out of the bat. The foods that have worked best for me are Greek yogurt, tomato Soup, and puréed chili. But with those I only get between 50 to 100 calories per meal. My favorite Protein Shakes a unjury and chike. I found the. Both on amazon. I really look forward to them. Best of luck!
  21. I think that's a great idea! You can have a closed group so no one outside the group can see what you are posting. I just had my second post-op visit with the doc yesterday. Everything is looking good. I'm a week and a half out from surgery and get to start mushies, i.e. mashed potatoes, hummus, Greek yogurt, etc. I feel really good. From the two-week liver shrink diet to now, I've lost 21 lbs.

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Hi Leigha! Thanks so much for responding to my post. True, I'm actually very happy for not only having lost but kept off 55lbs. The working out part I've not been big on. That's what I want to work on now that I have a sense of control with the eating part. And I think you're doing a fabulous job! Even if you have to repeat week 8 the fact that you're not throwing in the towel says a lot! That's awesome! Congrats to all you ladies that have kept it up and especially for posting too! I love reading everyone's stories. You can learn so much. The bit about eating yogurt before a run is great! I've always wondered if I should or should not eat a lil' something before working out. I do, however, drink a Protein shake after my work outs. I've been told that it's good for your muscles particularly after a work out. Have an awesome day today people!

I just want to say that everyone here is doing sooo good! All of you inspire me! Whosya and Renewed~ you two ROCK!! Ya'll are my little running heros, lol! Kathy~ you are progressing soooo well! Keep it up girl! Oh, and kudos for sticking to the scale challenge. That's what I call dedication!! luluc~ I love reading your post, here and all over the board. Your exercise regime just baffles me. Les~ you are doing great too! Good for you for getting back on track and starting over fresh! Jeannie~ look at you progressing! Good for you! As far as your questions go, I agree with everything Renewed said. I always eat a healthy carb before I run (usually whole wheat triscuits or protein cereal mixed with yogurt) and I also drink milk afterwards. Sugar~ I know how you feel. I haven't ran either, gotta get my butt in gear! How's your legs? Bonnie~ you are doing soooo good! I still want to commend you for doing this now and not waiting until your surgery. I think that says a lot about you. Keep up the great work girl! Lyn~ You amaze me! Only a couple of weeks out of surgery and you were running again. I could not have done that. Keep up the good work! Oh, and thanks for the "two" breathing suggestion...I gotta try that! tootie~ you're doing great!! Keep up the wonderful work! Serenity~ you're doing an awesome job! Keep on truckin'! Mamato~ How are you? I've been thinking about you and praying for you and your hubby. All of you have inspired me to get off my pity party butt and do something today. I've been soooo bummed about my knee (which feels better again), I've gotten off track. I've had some other health issues going on too, one of them being I have a staff infection under my right arm. For the past week, any movement with my upper body has been painful. I'm on antibiotics and feeling much better now. So, I'm gonna quit moping around and go to the gym tonight. If nothing else, I'll ride the bike. Something is better than nothing!! So, thank you all for inspiring me to get back on track!

    Who's Getting Banded in July?

I hope mo one thinks I am lucky and maybe my problem is unusual but here it is. I was banded on the 11th of July. I can't eat more than a couple of mouthfulls of food a day, nor can I drink more than a litre of Water. I get too full. I get that Christmas dinner feeling after half a glass of milk and it lasts for hours. I do take a multivitimin but a tablet as the chewable ones make me gag. I am only concerned about malnutrition. I had that happen once before and I cannot go thru my hair falling out in clumps like a cancer patient. I am trying a fruit and yogurt Protein shake in the morning....sips of water as often as I can but then I really have to try and eat at night. I managed half a hotdog. That cannot be good for anyone. I hate that bloated feeling. I have it now after about half a pint of smoothie in around 40 minutes. I am not due for a fill until the second week of August.

    Any Long Islanders?

Unjury unflavored does not have Aspartame. You can mix the unflavored into anything to boost up the Protein. chocolate milk, soy milk, fruit smoothies, ff yogurt, any Soup or sauce (just make sure it is not over 130degrees). Possibilities are unlimited. Best part it that you control the recipe. I even put it into home made Protein Bars.
