4 months out and stalled all month!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DonnaGS's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think you should continue sticking to your diet plan. Stalls do happen and at times quite irritating especially in the first 6 months when you expect your weight to fly away. I have had slow losing months every other month since the surgery. I stalled about 3 weeks or so too around month 5 where I barely lost 4 or 5 pounds that month. But then weight continued to fly the next month. So, it'll happen as long as you stick to your diet routine. Hope you break the stall soon. -

I recently decided to try out the sous vide function on my Instant Pot, and I'm loving it! It's a great, practically foolproof way to cook chicken breasts perfectly. I'm going to try a steak next week. Spinach artichoke stuffed chicken breast (with side salad) Chicken broccoli roulade -
How do you stay focused? I'm struggling a bit the past three days. All I want is sweets and carbs. I have no clue what changed but for some reason I'm craving hard. I'm literally dreaming about food and when I wake up, I'm thinking about my next meal. I'm not "hungry" but so munchy. I'm trying to stay focused, busy, exercise and the likes but this looking struggle is getting to be so hard. I meet with my nutritionist tomorrow and I'm so hopeful she has some advice. My protein intake is great, liquids on point, even throwing in some raw veggies and berries to curb the sweet/carb craving. Thoughts?

Heading into week two of pre-op clear liquids is killing me today. The idea of any broths makes me nauseated and jello has made me gag since the beginning. I’m trying to hold out for my surgery date Thursday and hoping I somehow miraculously become ok with clear liquids for one week post op diet!

Day 4 of Liquid: Weak and Worried
doobie31 replied to doobie31's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hahahah. I was surprised my surgeon let me eat anything. I had always read a full liquid was the norm. And here you are eating eggs! I'm so jealous. 😂 But all is well. I ended up losing about 27 lbs over the two weeks. About 6 days in it got so much easier, like a light switch. And I'm very ready to be cut open tomorrow! -
Reading this is my greatest fear. I'm 51, healthy and happy, but tomorrow I'm having surgery mainly because the quality of my life is starting the deteriorate. And it didn't happen slowly, I went from hiking 3 miles without issue to struggling to walk a couple of blocks in a matter of weeks (due to back pain). So while the weight didn't get in the way of your life now, maybe knowing it very well could at any time, maybe that'll help you feel a little less resentful towards things. I've been seeing a therapist via BetterHelp.com since I started down the surgery path. I know I have a food addiction and I know how much I love just stuffing my face, and it has helped. It hasn't gone away, but it has definitely helped. It's all done remotely, so even time isn't an excuse. And they've been very helpful with lowering the cost for me just for the asking. I hope you keep posting so I can follow your journey. I'm rooting hard for you (and for me!).

I'm 7 months out and I don't really *miss* anything. I have now tried most things in moderation and can tolerate them fine, including bread and pasta and rice. Even now there are days when I do not get enough fluids in though because I can't drink for a long time after eating. I can drink right beforehand though - I just get hungry and forget. And I have drunk sparkling water and sodas (and wine) from about 6 weeks post op - I was never told to avoid those.

You will be great! Definitely be more excited than anything else! I was mostly excited but apprehensive as well which I think is normal. My entire hospital experience was so positive and so amazing, I wish the same for you. I am not even 2 weeks post op and I can say with confidence that this is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. Best wishes! -
I am 10 days post opp( week 2), thin liquids as well with cream soups, pudding, Greek yogurt. Soft veggies are not on my list till week 3 with Puréed but every surgeon/nutritionist is different. As long as you are tolerating it should be fine.

I was overwhelmed with the idea of supplements too but thankfully, my nutritionist gave me links to exactly what I need. I will basically take a 500mg calcium chew three times a day, a chewable vitamin D three times a day, a multivitamin chew once a day, and then 1000 mg B12 once per week. I plan to take the 3 times a day ones with my "meals". Then I'll do the calcium and vitamin d at bed time, and the B12 on Fridays. She really helped make that part of this process much easier. 😋

I had my surgery June 10th so I'm on day 10. I was terrified but learned really quickly that the surgical pain wasn't nearly as close to challenging as getting that gas pain out. That was rough and I can now feel WHAT I suspect is some surgery pain but it pretty much just feels like I've done a few too many crunches, which I can assure you, has not happened. 😂 I only had to take my pain medication the first full day home from surgery and I'm sure it was still the gas pain. Otherwise, pain has not really been an issue which is awesome! The clear diet has not been fun at all, and this second week isn't much fun either by being able to add protein shakes but only four more days until I get to start experimenting with pureed foods! Since I LOVE chicken, tuna, and egg salads, that's what I'll be prepping up for my puree week and first week back at work. Super excited about the possibilities of this new journey! Ya I've been on soft veggies, soup, yogurt, pudding, juice ice chunks, since last week. I haven't had any issues, just have to go slow so as to not get over full Sent from my SM-G981V using BariatricPal mobile app

Soft vegetables on day nine? My nutritionist says clear to thick liquids, like protein shakes, on week two. I'm genuinely curious because I'm starving so if I can try other things, soft smooshy things, I might do so. Because I have zero energy and am exhausted on just clear liquids and protein shakes.

Hello everyone. So glad I found this forum and I hope it's active because I don't really have anyone other than my surgeon, his nurse, and my nutritionist to ask questions of and they don't have time to be my BFF. Hahaha! My surgery was Friday, June 10th so I'm am on day 10. I feel much better than I did this time last week but dangggg I'm starrrrrving and I am so very over jello, Popsicles, broth, protein shakes, etc. Surely there has got to be something else with a bit more body that I could start to try to get my mini tummy ready for week three, which I'll only have two days to adapt to before returning to work, that will also keep me from feeling like I'm starving. I've been super duper strict and had hoped to do so the entire time but I'm actually concerned about other things because of lack of nutrition. I have been dealing with dizziness, lack of balance, minimal energy (which is highly irritating because I had cleaning plans to work on the two weeks I would be out of work) and just overall weak as all get out. I am getting lots of water, some jello, broth, and Popsicles, and I try to do two protein shakes a day so plenty of fluids, but how in the world can I find something to give me some energy that won't ruin what my nutritionist gave me in an eating plan? I know I am SICK to death of sweet stuff. Blegh! Haha! I have backyard chickens. Would it be bad to try a backyard Fresh scrambled egg and see how my mini tum tum handles it? If not, what other ideas do those of you who are more experienced have?

Hi Everyone, I had the sleeve done in FEB 2022. I've lost a total of 30 lbs, which considering I was losing 1/2 pound a month before surgery. I'll take it! Figured I would be honest with myself, my calorie count has sneaked up from 800-1200, not every day, but most. I'm also eating carbs. I do not lose when doing carbs, they have to be few and far between. The good news is, Salads are on the menu again! That makes life so much easier and easier to avoid carbs. This is disappointing and I'm a bit surprised because I'm physically hungry most of the time! Thought I would share to see if anyone else has this problem. I need to clean my diet up, resume meditating everyday and throw out the carbs! And walk more. I have a new puppy I wasn't expecting and it has turned my world upside, but no more excuses! Good luck to all of you.

How many calories are you taking in? 2 weeks post ESG
Tela OG replied to Tela OG's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Thanks again for all the insights. Spoke to the nutritionist, I have no exercise restrictions so I’m good there. She said I just need to listen to my body when it says to stop since I am on such a low calorie diet. Weight lifting and high impact activity is aok. She was surprised my calories were as high as they have been. She said I’ve been making all the right choices and I have been averaging more protein than many of her patients. She also thinks the weight loss is appropriate so not to worry about it too much. She said she’d be surprised if I average higher than that over the next two weeks on the soft food diet. So onward and upward (or downward as we’d all like!) -

I had to look up " ESG" and know nothing about it. At 2 weeks out I was barely eating 200-300 cals a day. Now at 3 months out I am between 700-800. -
Is smoking marijuana safe after surgery?
Jimboscope replied to NinaMariexo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it depends on what type of surgery you had and how you complicated it was for you or your body. In any case, it's important to speak with a doctor you trust and are sure will give you the best advice. I gave up almost three years ago on everything related to smoking and drugs, but before that, I always checked https://darkcatalog.com/asap-market/. They have a lot of pieces of information there about this field, and people often share their situations and results. Anyways, if you can stay far from them, this is the best decision you can make. -

I’d avoid the strenuous workouts too. Remember your poor healing tummy & all the staples & sutures holding it together. Most of us are advised to only walk for a few weeks. Remember you also have restrictions on how much you can carry/pull. Check with your dietician re calorie. There are lots of different requirements & it is always best to follow your plan. Personally I wasn’t given any caloric goals (only portion sizes & protein & fluid goals) & by the end of my first 4 weeks I was barely eating 300 calories but that was me & all I was capable of plus not hungry or interested in food. My surgeon & dietician was okay with it as I was slowly increasing what I was eating. -

yea - I was told nothing but walking for the first four weeks, and no strength training until eight weeks out. as far as calories, no way you could be eating very many. We were told to just count protein grams and fluids when we were early out....no calorie counting. -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
ms.sss replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
K here’s one that’s not exactly an NSV, more like an NSF (no scale FAIL); Soon after surgery as the weight started coming off, i developed chronic/ongoing lower back and hip pain, which i learned was due to my bones and musculature forming/setting in a certain way over the years to support my larger frame and was no longer set optimally to support my shrinking frame. After a couple months, the pains went away, as I guess my body started re-aligning for my new size, with a big thanks to my exercise routine which i know helped. Anyway, around the time i got to goal, i started getting my lower back pain again (not all the time like before, but enough to be annoying), which i attributed to my bad seating posture. So i just kept doing core exercises and trying to sit up straight. No improvement. It’s been about 3 years since the pain came back and this week a chiropractor helped me finally figured out what the problem is! It’s my lack of stomach for effs sakes. Im a stomach sleeper and because i no longer have bulk in my midsection to prop up my spine from below, I was basically hyper exaggerating my lumbar curve, causing the pain. He told me to try sleeping with a pillow under my lower stomach for a few days and see if it helps. OMG it totally did. Its not as comforting as sleeping on my old bigger stomach, but at least i don’t have pain the next day. So a sorta win, lol. P.S. I realized i just wrote alot again. Sorry! Im feeling wordy tonight… -
I’ll be one week post op on Tuesday! I was sleeved on 6/14 and I’m doing really well! Although I am absolutely craving peanut butter lol.
