How was recovery for ur band to bypass? I heard it’s rough? This was my first surgery. And I was not expecting the lag from anesthesia. Lol I thought I’d just pop up and be fine and dandy lol Hahahaha -

Fluid intake is ok, feels like all I do is sip sip sip. I was band to bypass revision so the surgeon left me with a slightly bigger pouch than normal though, which probably makes it easier for me to get fluid in. I’m not sure if I’ve lost anything yet, my surgery was done in a different country to where I live so I haven’t had a scale to weigh myself yet. I get home tomorrow, I’m so curious. I was 290 going in. -

I did, yes. It started very soon after I drank the liquid for the X-ray. It didn’t really stop until this morning but milder. We were done the same day. I’m bypass. -
I do not have that insurance but my insurance company was the same way. One person said they required it, the next said they didn't. I finally pulled up the policy online and found they had revised the requirements on what was mandatory the month prior. When I called them back and quoted the policy to them, they said that information had not reached their office yet but that it was "probably" accurate. So my doctor's office decided to send in a prior authorization just to see what they would say. It got approved in 4 days. I said all that to say that maybe you should just try the prior authorization. My surgeon's office said that if it gets denied, they will send specific requirements that you need and thAt will be the most accurate information you will be able to get on it because it's not coming from a customer representative but rather someone who actually approves or denies based on the info. Good luck!

When did you decide it was time for a revision?
summerset replied to ryan_86's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So your weight is at about 200 lbs now? Why do you believe that you can't back to where you were and stay there? If you think that it's too soon for revision, then well... it's too soon for a revision! No, seriously... if you're not experiencing symptoms like e .g. serious reflux it's really hard to decide when it's time for a revision or if a revision makes any sense at all. There is always the risk of another surgery and results regarding additional weight loss or losing regained weight can be quite poor depending on the procedure. -
How Long Do You Leave Between Meals?
Traff_91 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Everyone! I am struggling to get my water ( lucky if I drink 750mls a day) and protein in because of timings. How long do you leave between your meals? I am trying to leave at least 10 minutes after drinking fluids before eating and at least 30 minutes after eating before drinking fluids again. But I am unsure when I can eat again? Also I feel like I am tolerating too much food. I am tolerating about 300grams. I am technically 5 weeks out although I was originally sleeved in 23 August 2019 then revised to bypass 5 weeks ago. Thank you in advance to anyone who offers their advice and guidance. X -
When did you decide it was time for a revision?
Mark.olypenn replied to ryan_86's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I lost over 100 lbs after my band surgery in 2005. I gained back about 20 lbs over the next three years and then stabilized at 226 lbs for a couple of years. Then the yo-yo weight loss and gain began, more gain than loss. I was up to 260 lbs when I began thinking about revision surgery about a year ago, but did nothing to move forward. My acid reflux and GERDS became worst during that period. After two endoscopic exams, weeks apart midsummer, it was determined my band had slipped and my pouch was very small. Also, I had high potential for developing Barrett's esophagus. I decision for a revision was easy after that. The band was removed in December. After 2-3 discussions with my surgeon, I decided, given my history with acid reflux and GERDS, to revise to gastric bypass scheduled for Feb 27. Honestly, if I was only 12 lbs from my goal weight, I would concentrate on enjoying life. -
Oh gosh, he doesnt sound like hes being very supportive. Is he just worried something will happen to you when having the surgery or is he just against it and thinks it's the easy way out? Surgery is not an easy way out, it takes alot of thought and consideration and it's for life, he should respect and support your decision. 'Salads and walks' arnt going to do and are not going to last forever... It sounds you've done amazing already and great that you've managed to come away from drug addiction and done so well for yourself. I'm so glad I just live me and the kids, I'm glad I havnt got a partner at home to worry about that's going to nitpick at me. It's going to be a rollercoaster physically and emotionally but we can enjoy the ride together and support each other along the way. I'm 211lb, I dont want to lose too much and be super skinny, I still want my curves and things so I'm going to have to be careful, I've discovered a mini gastric bypass last night so I'm going to call my surgeon on Monday and see if he can explain what that is. Hope your ok and your partner sees the good side of you having this surgery x

Input needed: Sleeve to Bypass? Revision Surgery
Jolynn replied to Jolynn's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Losingit2018 - How hard has your recovery been since the sleeve to bypass revision? How long were you out of commission before returning to your daily routine? For me, it isn't about how much I lose at this point, it is about not becoming diabetic again, and being taken away from my nephew as everyone else in my family has. At this point, I am the sole survivor at 45. -
Input needed: Sleeve to Bypass? Revision Surgery
Jolynn replied to Jolynn's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thank you! My doctor's only option is a revision to bypass. Yes, 100% rate of complication. Anything from a minor UTI to death. Pretty scary....but still..... I appreciate all the input and words of wisdom. -

Input needed: Sleeve to Bypass? Revision Surgery
Losingit2018 replied to Jolynn's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had sleeve surgery in March 2018. I ended up with gerd and hiatal hernia this year so recently revised to bypass. I initially lost 73 pounds with sleeve and then bounced upwards by 16 pounds. I am almost 8 weeks out from rny revision and have lost 34 pounds total and two pants size so far. as of now I am happy with my decision to revise. Only wish that I had followed my gut (pun) and got the bypass from the start. It is going to take hard work and determination no matter what route you decide to take. Good luck! -

Have you looked at DS or SIPS surgery? From my research it seems the better option. Revising to a bypass is said not to produce amazing weight loss (some but not all) my surgeon told me a revision to a bypass for me would only yield 25 lb or so and I need to lose 60. Good luck! -
NYC DOE Teachers - Having or Have Had Sleeve Surgery
Repeatingthoughts replied to newyorklady20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there. I work for DOE too. I however, have the HIP prime. I Am having a revision. You aren’t going to die. The medical field has made great stride. What surgeon are you meeting with? Each program require a different things. Emblem health who covers ghi and hip doesn’t require the 6 months visits anymore (stopped last year) that is what certain programs want. They want to be able to see that you are committed to this. also if you’re afraid of acid reflux I will highly consider doing your research on the sleeve and GERD. I know of a few people at my program who revised from the sleeve to RNY due to developing gerd after the sleeve. -
gastric bypass side effects
froufrou replied to skyewolfe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Complications - I had a leak when I had my gastric sleeve and was in hospital for 3 months. Had several surgeries to put in a stent (didn't work at first - had to have one stitched in place. That one ended up slipping and so had to have it restitched). My whole sleeve was a total flop, so I had the bypass. Yes, there can be complications, but despite them I went back and tried again. The main thing that I wish people knew when having complications is to make sure they have the support of family around them should everything go t i t s up. I had to fly my mum in from the UK to look after my autistic daughter. I knew there was a chance of complications, but I had absolutely zero idea of how that might impact my, my husbands, my daughter's and my mum's life. So... my advice to everyone getting surgery is to make sure you have a good support system in place should the worst happen. THAT is what I wish the surgeons office would emphasize when we sign all of those release forms. -
Lap Band Removal and Revision Suggestions Needed
JRT Mom replied to soccermonster31's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would find another doctor if you can. There's nothing wrong with shopping around. I had to change my original choice when the office told me Medicare wouldn't pay for a bypass because I already had a lap band--WRONG! The doctor should not be pushing a choice on you--he/she should inform you as well as possible and let YOU make the choice. Did you have GERD before your lap band? If so I would definitely choose a bypass. That's what I did. -

I’m set for 1/28/2020 and while I’m super ready I’m very nervous. I’m scheduled for bypass and I’m super nervous. The real struggle is this Pre-Op diet but day three and I’m doing it. Hope everyone is having much success with their upcoming procedures. -
gastric bypass side effects
catwoman7 replied to skyewolfe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
complications aren't that common, and most of the ones people get are pretty minor and easily fixable, like strictures. About 5% of bypass patients get a stricture, making it one of the most common complications. I'd hardly call something that 5% of people get "common", but that gives you some idea on how common complications are. They're not. I think a lot of people you're listening to are remembering what bariatric surgery was like 20+ years ago, when it was fairly risky. It's just not anymore. These have come a really long way since then and have become pretty much routine surgeries. On the continuum of "not risky at all" to "super risky", they're WAY on the side of "not risky at all". They're much safer than hip replacement surgeries, for example, and they do those every day. Honestly I think my plastics were probably riskier than my RNY, as far as surgeries go. you are at greater risk staying obese than you are having this surgery. It's when I realized that that I decided to go for it. -
Well, pain is very individual, and some people LOVE to talk about their pain way long after it is over. I have had bone fractures and other surgeries that were much more painful than gastric bypass. There is medication to help you. Childbirth is painful, too, but you soon forget the pain when you are holding a new life. Surgery gives you a new life and you soon put any pain/discomfort behind you. I was getting cold feet before surgery and told my PCP that maybe I should just try it on my own ....... again. She said the best words ever, "If you could have done it on your own, you would have by now." So true.

Why did you choose the surgery you had/will have?
AZhiker replied to KlaPV's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. I just shudder when I hear about new meds or new procedures getting pulled because real life experience proves they were ineffective or dangerous. Gastric Bypass has been around for a long time and there is so much information now from decades of post op patients. The band was a disaster and most surgeons don't do it anymore. The sleeve seems great, but I just need to see more years of data before I am comfortable with the long term effectiveness. So for me, bypass was the best option, especially with my history of GERD. -

Bypass because I felt there was more long. Term research available -
One thing that you may want to ask your surgeon about is if they will numb your stomach before surgery. This was not done before my sleeve but was before revision to bypass. Huge difference in pain level.

Why did you choose the surgery you had/will have?
JRT Mom replied to KlaPV's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never really liked the label "diabetic" that the doctor stuck on me since I only had a slightly elevated A1C, but I did take the metformin that he gave me. That label DID help me get approved for my surgery since it gave me a comorbidity so I guess he did me a favor. They had me stop the metformin two days before my surgery, and the last A1C I did was completely normal! Gastric bypass, and to some extent the sleeve, has worked wonders for many diabetics.
