Briswife, Thanks for asking this question as I am right there with you, and hope someone has answers for us! My gastric bypass is scheduled for March 11th. I, too, am 5’4” and depend on diclofenac 75mg daily for knee pain arthritis. I know I have to give it up—but nothing, and I do mean nothing comes close to helping like it does. Congrats on your near 70 lb weight loss! Have you noticed reduced knee pain since the weight loss? I’m hoping for that, too. Continued good health to you!

The band didn't perform up to advertised / reported specs. Ended up with some minor issues and struggled to keep the weight off. Revised to Bypass, dropped the rest of my weight and have kept it off for over a year now. Coming up on 2 years post revision in March.

Hello! Before my gastric bypass I used to take diclofenac, an NSAID, for arthritis pain in my knees. As we know, NSAIDs are a no-no forever post bypass. I have severe arthritis and disk disease in my neck, and tylenol doesn't help. Is anyone aware of safe yet effective pain relief for bypass patients? Thanks, and hope you're all doing well! Revision Surgery
mcfluffington replied to Lesa B's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had revision due to weight regain. But I think I am an outlier. If I had to do it again I wouldn't. I have had no weightloss due to the surgery. Just my usual two pounds a month due to dieting. I had a surgery that isn't done very often. It was from RNY to a gastric sleeve and SADI. I think most people who have WLS revision due to weight regain after an RNY have a distal revision. But I'll let them talk about there surgery, if they are lurking around. -
What prompted most people to do the revision surgery?

Unfortunately (or fortunately) I was having such problems with my lap band having slipped that I wasn't able to binge much before my revision surgery. I DID manage to eat a nice piece (or two) of cheesecake, which promptly made me barf, but it was worth it! -

Two weeks on soft foods and then regular food, except salads. No salads for 6 months. It’s amazing that you can eat salad!! I was doing PREMIER but they were horrible and made me bloated so switched to Unjury, a medical protein that’s whey isolate. It was fantastic and easy to digest, they even have chicken soup and southwest taco which is delicious. This thing with smelling the cold shakes just started on Monday, same day I couldn’t eat more than a couple bites of soft foods. Bowel obstructions are really horrible. My sister was in hospital for 5 months with her first one because her organs started shutting down and put her in a coma. She had open surgery for that one. She just had another bowel obstruction two months ago and was in hospital for two weeks with the stomach tube and fortunately it cleared. My daughter had bowel obstruction last year after gastric bypass-all scar tissue. Fortunately they were able to do laparoscopic surgery for her. My family just has bad bowels for some reason so that’s one reason I’ve been so careful to follow the dietary plan religiously. -

Yea sometimes I just find that certain foods like hit my stomach harder. When are you able to eat real food? One thing on my 6 week list was salad. And I am so bad and I tried it yesterday :/ it was amazing. And it didn’t make my stomach upset. I love salad and my hubby was eating it!! I was so happy to know I tolerated it ok. Today at 3 I have a class for nutrition and I’m going to ask them about it and why we have to wait til 6 weeks etc. yea my mom had bowel obstruction colon cancer actually and it was horrible. My surgeons nurse actually had the bypass and recommends the sleeve if her patients have the self control or can learn the self control because she has had a lot of bowel obstruction and twists. She said her problems started 10years post op. She is running out of bowel and she is pretty scared about it. It such a. Horrible thing. My mom was so sick. It scared me. What protein shake are you drinking? The only one I can stomach is the ensure MAX PROTEIN. I have tried a lot of them even the plant based protein mixes and I just don’t like them. But I don’t drink milk etc cause I’m lactose intolerant so yea. Protein drinks just aren’t for me. I try to get in a whole piece of tilapia cause one 4 oz price has 20 grams protein. I am trying to get my protein In Through food plant based and animal based. -
Congratulations! I'm 10 months post gastric bypass and remember how very excited I was when I got my date. It's been life changing! Almost at goal. Best to you! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I had RNY bypass last May. I’m currently 114 pounds and seems to still be dropping. I want to be like 135. For my height of 5’1 it says my weight is normal but I look scary. Not sure what to do. I also exercise 6 days a week I really don’t want to stop doing that. What else can I do???

To revise or not to revise...that is my question
JRT Mom replied to Carat711's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Sounds like you are NOT enjoying life as normal if you are in constant pain from your GERD. Has your doctor explained that constant GERD can make changes in your lower esophagus that can eventually turn to cancer? And you may be able to put off GERD with your "double dose nexium", but studies are suggesting that long term PPI use is being implicated in problems such as osteoporosis, kidney disease and vitamin deficiencies. And your GERD is not likely to improve without some sort of surgical intervention. And once you get through the post op diet, you should be able to eat the same food you feed your family, just a smaller portion. I hope I don't come across as being harsh, but your health will be affected by your GERD, and I know the thought of a revision seems daunting, but in the long run you might be much happier if you address it soon. Whatever you decide, good luck! Keep us posted. -

Revision weight loss

Revised not reviewed. -
I am at my goal weight of 175~180. I have to revise to RNY due to intractable GERD. Has anyone else reviewed at their goal weight? What I really want to know is how much weight loss should I expect. If you have revised, how many pounds did you lose. Thanks in advance for your answers!

To revise or not to revise...that is my question
FluffyChix replied to Carat711's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Honestly? If I were in your present mind-set? I would ask myself very honestly and carefully, if I get this surgery, what will change? Because the "supposed" truth from the docs is that revisions do not have "quick weight loss" and if you ate your way back up to your pre-surg weight, what will stop you doing it again when life gets sucky? Also by your admission you don't want to make the lifestyle changes that lifelong weight management takes--even after WLS. Plus drinking your cals along with eating poorly, I just don't think magic bean surgery has been invented yet. I would start preparing by starting counseling with a bariatric specialist. -
To revise or not to revise...that is my question
catwoman7 replied to Carat711's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I haven't had a revision (I got RNY the first (and only) time around because I had GERD), but I've been hanging out on this and other bariatric forums for several years, and most everyone who's had a revision is very glad they did. -
Hello there, Longtime lurker, first time poster here!🖐️ I had my stomach stapled (vbg) in 2003. Went from 320 lbs to 189, I don't remember in how long. But I was never comfortable eating, threw up most of the time(due to in part no education pre-op whatsoever back then, but also as it turns out a stricture). could not tolerate meats of any kind and soon after realizing how easy it was for me to tolerate "sliders", I started gaining weight. So over 15 years I gained back up to 276 lbs. I started being ok with myself, started buying cute clothes( well as much as I could) and stopped dieting. Over the years I developed fibromyalgia, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis and a few other choice chronic conditions, so I decided it's time for me to get serious about my health(without dieting) and my biggest concern at the time was the ridiculous acid reflux, that would sometimes wake me up by rushing into my nose!! And I had started developing more severe symptoms that resembled gastritis . Anyways, a year ago I started seeing a gastroenterologist, who after further exploration discovered the stricture and budding gastritis. He told me right then that the position of my stricture is not going to be helped by dilatation, and my only way is a revision. Of course, 1- I did not think insurance would pay for it, so out of the question. 2- I did not want to have any more "elective" surgeries. 3- I had just started being ok with myself and advocating for big people, remember? So, I chose to do a dilatation and my doctor was willing to try. Did NOT work! Big surprise! My doctor made an appointment with a revision bariatric surgeon, without consulting me. Gotta love how things work out! Anyways, long story short...er😉, here I am jumping through insurance hoops to get approved for a revision to rny bypass. My question is, in people's experience, did the fibro pain get any better after weight loss? Thanks for bearing with me through the long post and thank you, all for the vast wealth of information on this website!

To revise or not to revise...that is my question
Carat711 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So, 13 years ago, I weighed 350 pounds. I made a commitment to change, and lost 100 pounds through dieting. After that, in Sept. 2013, I had a sleeve procedure and hernia fix (without complications) and went from 250 down to 155 (my lowest) in 2016. That's when the problems began. I have been suffering with terrible on and off gastritis, constant GERD and reflux, stomach ulcers, and my hiatal hernia needs repair again. I have had two recent endoscopies, including one with a Bravo probe, and the surgeon claims the only way to permanently fix the problem to to revise from a sleeve to RNY. The problem is, I do NOT want full on bypass. I am terrified. I like my life as it is, and I can't imagine going through the surgical recovery process again. I am remarried now, and have a ten year old daughter, and I can't imagine what our family meals/vacations/birthday parties are going to look like post-RNY. I am at the point with my sleeve that I have reincoporated most foods, and eat relatively normally. All of this decision making stress has made me go off the rails with my eating plan, and I have regained almost all the weight I lost (back up to 230 pounds), partially because I have been eating everything in sight, preparing for the moment after which I will "never be able to eat normally" again. I approach every meal with a "last supper" mentality. I enjoy food and beer and traveling, and I don't want to constantly be the odd man out at functions. I am tempted to have the revision for purely vanity reasons - a quick weight loss fix for what I've regained. Nothing I am currently suffering is imminently dangerous, nor is it constant - I have excruciating flare ups. My surgeon will not fix my hernia without doing the whole conversion, because he claims it's "useless" to fix one without doing the other. So, here's what I ask everyone...to anyone who's had the revision...is it worth it? I'm tempted to just keep taking my double dose nexium and drinking my Gaviscon, and enjoying my life as normal. I have a husband who loves and accepts me, and I don't want to do this and risk my life for a surgery simply for appearance's sake. If I can live with my current pain, can't I ride this out with my little sleeve which worked so well until depression made me abuse it? Do I just get back on track, or go under the knife? I have never been so torn. Please help!!! Thank you for listening -
This has been a source of heart ache ever since my gastric bypass surgery on August 14, 2019. Right out of the gate I was losing at a slower rate then average And definitely slower than a lot of the folks here or in other Facebook communities. My starting weight was 285 and this morning I weighed in at 2:18.4 pounds. I am 5’6” and 41 years old. Since the beginning I have met all protein goals and on fluid goals and I have had zero complications from the surgery. All in all I live a pretty normal life considering I had my insides rerouted. Starting in January I added Orangetheory fitness to my regimen which is an hour long HIIT class. I go three times a week and It’s hard. Like very hard. I burn on average about 450 cal per class. My dietitian wants me to be around 1200 cal right now especially since I added the workouts. I have had starches and grains and that makes me nervous because I’m a lifelong dieter but my dietitian has zero concerns about carbs. Obviously she wants me to to be making healthy choices around carbs like fruits and vegetables, whole grains, etc. which I do. When I asked her point blank about carbohydrate goals for the day she said 125 g. I’m just feeling a little defeated this morning. I am almost 6 months out from surgery and was definitely hoping to be below 200 pounds right now and now I’m wondering if I’ll ever get below 200 pounds. I guess I just am looking for support or stories of people have gone through similar rate of loss and have continued and meet their goals. My doctor told me at six months it becomes much more difficult to lose weight. But for me it’s Felt hard since the beginning.I used voice text to write this so I apologize if anything sounds crazy.

Thanks for this thread everyone! I am having revision surgery on 3/27, from sleeve to RNY, due to reflux and regaining all 60 lbs I lost with the sleeve 😭. Hoping to at least get rid of the reflux and losing the weight again would be a great bonus! -
@HappyHikerGal How was your experience at Oasis of Hope? I’m scheduled for revision surgery with Dr. Gonzalez on 3/27 and just looking for feedback on the facility, staff and overall experience. Which procedure did you have done? Thanks!
