    Stop loosing WAY too early

    People talk about stalls, the famous week 3 stall, then the 3 week stall. I actually am one of the few people that never saw a stall. My secret was being too large to weigh on home scales. For about the first year I could only weigh at my surgeon's office at monthly follow-ups. So, when your weigh-ins are a month apart, you don't see stalls. I can't express what a joy this was. I was never tempted to change anything in response to a stall. I just stayed with my program. My surgeon was never overly concerned with my weight loss. He asked how I was doing on the plan, how I felt, did I have any concerns. Weight never came up unless I brought it up. He was a cool Doc. Once I was able to weigh at home, I did it for a couple weeks, several times a day. Then I abandoned the whole concept and went back to just weighing at follow-ups. Who needs the angst? Even now, all these years later, I don't weigh at home, but only at my annual physicals at the Doctor's. One does not need a scale for success at WLS. Just trust your plan. My plan was also pretty straightforward. I didn't count calories, nor much of anything else. I counted meals of which there were 3 per day. I counted protein of where there were 3-4 oz each meal.     How to cheat

    I was never faced with a multi course tasting menu until I was well into living with Gastric Bypass long-term. Pre-op it never appealed as my family was about volume over quality. I've since faced down the multi-course tasting menu with style and aplomb, generally by not worrying about my rules. No matter what happened volume would sooner or later become an issue. Sipping during meals has always been something I was more than willing to do. I usually took a taste of most courses unless it simply did not appeal. Unless a course was just the bees knees I didn't take more than two or three bites, I'm not gonna waste that all important space on something that was not worthy of it. There was usually one or two courses that were just that good to merit in depth exploration. Often it came down to "Let's make a deal"... Would you like to finish this course, or wait for the next course which has a cream sauce your sure to love, or this course that has lobster just the way you love it, or this later mystery dish later that will be something new? At any rate, we all have our approaches and our deals with ourselves and the devil. I just don't dance with the devil that often. Good luck, Tek

    How to cheat

    I'm here to tell you all how to cheat Not that you need to know this. I had a family dinner last weekend in a fancy restaurant that only does a 7 course set tasting menu. I have panicked for weeks about this because none of my family know I've had surgery and I don't want them to (long story featuring lifelong judgementalness, LOL - I know that's not an actual word). I had hatched all sorts of plans where I hid food under other overhanging food, dropped it on the floor, and put it onto other people's plates when they weren't looking. Anyway - turns out I worried for no reason - all you have to do to cheat on your pouch is to reverse the rules you were given. So - if you drink before, during and immediately after a meal, and start with carbs and finish with protein (and leave some of that if you need to) you can virtually clear 7 small plates. Served me very well on Saturday night. I hope not to need that wisdom again for some considerable time.

    That is really cutting it tight, but I understand why. I plan on taking a week and a few days. Thankfully I work for family and my job itself is a desk job so my doctor said she didn't think it would be a big deal if I decided to go back sooner. I expect out energy levels will be pretty low.     I’m nervous, but I wish it was sooner rather than later. I’m an educator and I was only able to get it scheduled 1 week before I have to go back to work! So I’ll only have 1 week off. Is anyone here worried about going back to work? Or are you guys blessed with staying home?

    Stalls and slow losing! Hoooo boy, I get so angry with my body because there are people who had surgery around the same time I did and who've easily lost double what I have. It's all about working the process though and every pound is a victory, no matter how slowly it comes off. You might need to speak to a dietician; I did after a massive stall and now I'm heading in the right direction again; turns out I was in malnutrition and starving myself. Your body needs fuel.

    August 2nd surgery buddy here! Have you seen what your "liquid diet" consists of from your team yet? I've talked with a few others on here and noticed mine is a little more forgiving. I decided to do a test run this week and I'm 3 days in. I honestly feel good. I actually find it hard to get everything in with all the liquids. I occasionally feel pretty tired but then not long after I get a burst of energy and take advantage of it when I can.
  8. Such a weird question, but I’m super bothered by this! I’m 6 weeks post op RNY. From immediately after surgery I have one armpit especially, sometimes both with horrible body odor!! I had switched off heavy deodorant probably 5 or so years ago and only use natural. I could do CrossFit and no worries. Now I can’t even sleep through the night without waking up smelling like I’ve ran a marathon! What’s the deal??? Anyone else with this? Is it anesthesia, burning fat off or what? I want it to go away and be not smelly like before…but I’ll take the lost pounds and just reapply for every few hours if I have to lol

    Pain on right side?

    Hi, I have the same pain it’s mostly around the biggest incision (right side) under the rib cage, but it only appears when I’m sleeping on my side or bending to much on my stomach when seating like I want to pick up something from ground, i started to feel this pain from like a week ago when I started to sleep on my side, I don’t know if it’s normal 20 days has passed from sleeve surgery, is this normal? How long does it take to go away?

    You don't need to change anything up. Its nothing you have done wrong. Just stick to your given plan. All stalls break
  11. Worrying is a waste of time. Try not to do it. You can loose a lot of sleep whilst worrying. Nobody likes doing the Pre Op diet, Its a form of cruelty that goes on and on. If you want the surgery you will have to do it, especially as you have the fatty liver. My time in purgatory lasted 3 weeks, I wanted the surgery so badly, I slipped once and had to cross my fingers behind my back that he didn't open me up and say he couldn't do the surgery. Good luck with your journey.
  12. I seriously doubt they will say anything about your gain unless they specifically told you not to gain? Our weights fluctuate and they know that. My pre op diet wasn’t bad. I was allowed 2 shakes and then a lean protein low carb dinner (meat and veggies). Plus we had free foods like jello and pickles we could have if we just had to eat something. If I remember correctly we could chose between shakes and yogurt. And we were allowed to have broth. I didn’t love it but I wasn’t starving at all. Even if your is more strict because of your liver you just gotta keep your eye on the prize. I know I could do anything for a week or two in order to change my life for the better. And during that diet, if it gets a little touch check out the thread called “weirdest non scale victories” and see some of the changes you have to look forward to post surgery. Also, whenever you want to eat, hop on here and get talking. We are here to help you through it.

    Oh man, I'm so jealous of your progress!!! I lost 30 pounds in the first 2 weeks. Then I hit a 2 week stall and have lost much slower after that. In the last 5 weeks, I've lost 13 pounds. I lost weight faster when I did keto, so this has been frustrating. But congrats on your numbers!!!!

    I lost 30 pounds in the first 2 weeks. Then I hit a 2 week stall and have lost much slower after that. In the last 5 weeks, I've lost 13 pounds. I'm not one of the lucky ones that started losing quickly again after a stall, but I DO still lose. Just slower. But it sounds like you're in a stall. Try changing up what you eat or your exercising. I added extra exercise and changed up what I do, and that broke the stall. Good luck!!

    Worried about eating

    Every team and their plans differ so much you will get 100 different answers here. Mine was 2 weeks each phase. 2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks pureed, 2 weeks super soft foods and then on to solid foods and slowly introducing yourself back into a normal balanced diet. I would just follow the directions of your team, if you struggle when you get to a particular stage reach out to them for help/guidance.

    Stalls happen to everyone. Sometimes they last just a week and sometimes they can last several. Some people even gain a couple pounds. Just stay the course. I know it’s hard but this process works if you stick to your plan. Just try to trust it. Stay off the scale for a week or two if it’s messing with your head too much.

    I'm sad VERY SAD!

    I think we all have this reaction after the first few weeks. I was not really comfortable with eating and drinking for over six months. I recently took a trip to Cancun and was able to eat when I wanted and drink what I wanted. The drinking has gotten infinitely better after 10 months or so post surgery. I can pretty much drink however much I want. I usually nurse a drink before and during the meal and hold off about 30 minutes after but I was able to maintain my buzz all day/every day in Mexico. Sometimes I wish I could really indulge in food but it is not worth the pain and the guilt. I also like being a size 34 waist vice a 48 or 50. There are some foods that I can splurge on like popcorn, nuts, tortilla chips etc from time to time when I get the munchies but it is very rare that I will do that. Since it is summertime, I have been eating a LOT of watermelon which gives me the hydration I need and a nice sweet, low calorie snack. Things get much, much better....hang in there.

    2 Weeks Post op

    Yes ma'am! Our bodies/bellies are weird now. I don't know what surgery you had but I had bypass. I have been lucky and pretty much able to eat anything but still sometimes something gets me. For example, I can eat chicken. Any kind.. cooked any way you can imagine but I can't eat cold. I have tried twice and was sick for hours. Just have to learn as we go and if it is something important enough you can always try again a few weeks/months later.
  19. i gained a couple pounds from my first consult to my pre op appointment. It happens. as for the pre op diet... Yea its not easy. i dont know how long you will be on yours as you havent posted any weight or height in your profile but most common is 2 weeks. yea it sucks the first few days. After about 4-5 days you start to adjust and are not as hungry anymore. and yes that hunger feeling is horrible. but just think about what it will be like after surgery. I am almost 3 months post op. Rarely ever hungry. I gotta remind myself to eat and drink. Just gotta get thru this final step of the pre op diet and you will be golden.

    I was also around 480 when I started. Here is a rough timeline of my stalls. Had surgery 8/16/21. Lost 24 pounds in the first 14 days. Lost 6 pounds over the next 19 days. Lost 41 pounds over the next 49 days Lost 11 pounds over the next 24 days Lost 8 pounds over the next 11 days. Once you come out of this stall, you are going to lose weight at an incredible rate. Keep doing the right things (getting protein in, keeping calories reasonable, stay moving) and the stall will end.
  21. Hey everyone! I'm new here, but have been reading a lot of the posts. I just created my profile. My preop for surgery is next week and my surgery is scheduled in August. I'm in complete panic as I gained weight since this process started back in February. I'm worried the doctor and nutritionist will berate me or worse, kick me out of the program and deny my surgery. I'm also really stressing about this Pre-Op Diet. I don't know all the details yet about my specific diet, but I'm sure it will be very harsh. I have Fatty Liver Disease and my liver is incredibly inflamed. They are going to want me on the diet immediately after meeting with them and I just don't know if I can do it. I don't like being hungry, it's one of the most uncomfortable feelings to me. It just sounds like sheer misery is in store and I'm scared about all this. My husband is being as supportive as possible, but he can't seem to stop snacking in front of me! Please tell me your experiences with pre-op appointments and the diet.

    Thats called the 3rd week stall... happens to EVERYBODY. sometimes it last a week. Sometimes it last several weeks where you wont loose much or any weight. and this will happen several times throughout your first year. your body is adjusting to the new calories

    You have not stopped losing and this is completely normal. Stalls WILL happen (just do a search here for "stall" and you'll find literally THOUSANDS of posts). Follow your plan, and give it time.

    2 Weeks Post op

    Ok guys & gals so I'm new here. 2 weeks post-op and I had my follow-up yesterday. I'm doing well as far as getting the weight off, I'm down about 20 lb. I tried my first bowl of oatmeal yesterday and only had two bites. I got so sick and threw up all day. I'm so afraid to eat. I've done well on liquids and did not deviate not one time.   25. I lost 34 lbs in the first 2 weeks after surgery now I haven't lost anything week 2-4.... My day consists of about 500-600 calories.
