    Thanks for that helpful info! I haven't started w/ fitness yet on Baritastic since I am not cleared for exercise (other than walking, stationary bike, etc) until six weeks post-op, but it is great to know those features are helpful. An upgraded scale is next on my list; can you share what smart scale you use?
  2. My surgery date was 9/26 and my surgeon said not to take Vitamins until my post-op visit 3 weeks after surgery (this past Thursday). My surgeon recommended the fusion brand, but I am confused about the different types, some you have to take 4/day, others only once per day and then there are the calcium chews (two hours after iron). Is the Fusion 1x/day pill a complete Vitamin? I purchased the complete vitamin not realizing you need to take it 4x/day but would like to switch to the 1x/day version but just want to make sure it has the correct daily balance of vitamins, since 4x/day is just unreasonable and not workable into a work schedule and taking around Calcium pills which can't be taken within two hours of an Iron supplement and the gallstone pills (take 2x/day with food) and the reflux pills (take 1x/day before eating). I am wondering if the Fusion 1x/day vitamin is a complete vitamin and what other supplements does everyone take? In addition to the Fusion Multivitamin and 2x/day calcium citrate that we all take, I've been told (by friends) to take: B12 sublingual (when does one take this?) Fusion hair, Nails & Skin Vitamin D (50,000U/wk with vitamin K3) for skin Krill Oil collagen powder, Water soluble ADEK Vitamin (but the friend who told me this had a DS, which I did not have so I don't think I need this.) Does anyone take any of these supplements and what kind of daily multi-vitamins have worked best for you? Thanks!

    so i had my first meeting with my medical team. we talked about pain management, nutrition, fluid consumption, vitamins and exercise. so far everything is going very well I am able to consume all my shakes and vitamins in correct amounts. I brought up my concerns about amount amount that I'm consuming and they told me that it is ok. When i transition to soft food I should keep three meals and two snack through the day. keeping meals about 250-325 grams about a 1 cup to 1.25 cups. to eat slowly and keep drinking fluids all day.. separate food from liquid about 30min apart. weighing foods it a great way to keep amount within range. I am using an app to track my food and nutrition and I am consuming about 900-1000 cal per day and I could increase to max of 1200 to help with my feeling very tired. My body is still healing and being tired is part of it also. getting rest and napping is common for most people after a drastic surgery. at the end of our meeting I ended feeling very good about my progress and my team is proud with my results and look forward to our 3 month meeting where we will follow up with blood work.

    I did two weeks. Tomorrow is my last day of pre op diet. Monday is clear liquids and Tuesday is the big day!

    You're doing great! I've heard to stay off the scale for at least 5 weeks. Your body is freaking out right now and trying to find stability. Your weight is going to be going crazy. I've heard that hunger often continues until you're on solid foods. Once you start solids, you'll start feeling restriction. This video might help with the portion sizes.

But im too lazy to move it, ha! ———————— Yep. so the first time i got my body fat measures via scan, it was 38%. But this was already 3+ months in, and 70 lbs lost. So i would guess I was probably 50-55% body fat pre-wls given my body measurements at the time. Yikes. After weight loss, at around 1.5 years post, dexa clocked me at 15% (at 115 lbs) My most recent one was Jan of this year and i was at 23% (at 118 lbs that day) My home body scale, while varying wildly day to day, generally reflected these numbers when taken as an average over the time period. Sooooo, if i can count on the averages of my home scale, as of this morning, I’ve averaged 29% body fat reading for the past 30 days. I am 118.8 this morning. Now i still think calling me skinny fat is a stretch since technically im still in the healthy body fat percentage for my stats, i am definitely much less fit than i was before (I’ve basically doubled my body fat percentage over past 2+ years.) With all that said (which was alot, sorry!), i am content enough with my appearance and lifestyle that i have little interest in doing anything drastic to change it. I’m just not very keen on other people unsolicitedly pointing out their precieved deficiencies of my body. But i mean, who does??? P.S. btw, there ARE physical benefits of a higher body fat percentage: my face is less gaunt and my boobs are bigger. Win!

    Hi, I am new too. My ESG was on 10/7. But I was told NOT to weigh myself daily. It’s once a week, at a designated time / day, no cheating, no peeking at the presents before Christmas morning. It’s driving me batty from curiosity, but I am trying to comply because I understand the reasoning. So I am measuring my waist and upper arms obsessively instead, but it’s not the same. Also, 9-11 lbs in 12 days, heck yeah!!! Good job.

    Four weeks is the longest liquid diet that I have heard of. I feel for you. I did 3 weeks but I did get certain vegetables to eat. Its to shrink your liver so the surgeon can operate easily

    Don't feel discouraged. You're doing just fine. Fluctuating 2-even 5 lbs a day is normal at any weight. This has to do with water weight, food etc. It's best to weigh yourself first thing in the morning, before food or drink and most importantly only ONCE per week. You're still healing. This was a big surgery. But most of all, Youre on track! Have you ever lost 8 to 10 lbs in one week before this? be proud! If you obsess over the scale it will mess with your head. Do not compare any if your progress to other people, our journeys are different right down to our surgeon guidelines and food phases. For portion sizes, your body will tell you if youre pushing yourself too much. Start small and work your way up. Less is more right now, protein shakes are incredibly important to not lose muscle mass.

    Some do more than 4 weeks some less. I needed to do it for two weeks. The time needed also depends on an number of factors. The surgeon may have requirement to do a certain amount of time due to a starting weight and or getting the patient to show commitment to the process. Their primary reason for anybody to do the diet is to shrink the liver so that makes the surgical field easier to access. Asking the surgeon their reasoning. Hope it all goes well for you.

    Hey folks! I am new here but just had my surgery on 10/3 and I'm STRUGGLING! I really misunderstood portions because I'm in the stage 2 diet and I know we can incorporate cottage cheese and ricotta. I fucked that one up and I think I've been drinking soups up to 6oz. It's very frustrating because I've been trying to do everything right. I have the food scale, a cup I use to measure liquids (its a glass thats used for measuring espresso, up to 4oz). Is anyone having trouble figuring out portions? I think I'm just so anxious about it I just feel like I don't know what I'm doing. I've gone back to protein shakes. I'm afraid of moving on to solids. I have also had the most difficult time figuring out when I'm hungry and when I'm full. I had pretty intense mental hunger which made me incredibly miserable. My stomach hurts from a drop. This sucks.... feeling discouraged. The scale is very confusing right now. I'm at day 12 and I was 299 and now I'm anywhere from 288-290 because it fluctuates so much. I think I've done it all wrong and want to just hide under my sheets!
  12. I had my four-week visit today and I am down 30 lbs. I am just so astonished. It took me a year to lose the first 30. This is not easy but so glad I did it. I went to IHOP with my littlest guy tonight and husband and had about tbsp of an egg white omelet. I am doing super well with the foods. My only slight issue is I am still tired all the time. I am vitamining up like crazy (new word?). I have not started exercising yet but I got permission to start to do body groove tomorrow. Here is hoping the next 30 comes easily. Hoping for all of your success.

    Typically we only see 4 weeks for people with a lot more weight to lose. Don't know what your specs are since you have not added them, but people with a BMI in the 50's or 60's will sometimes have a 3 or 4 week pre-op diet. If that's you, it's to make the surgery as safe as they can.

    September surgery buddies!!

    Word of warning: A LOT of people have issues with scrambled eggs post-op. So much so that my plan says to avoid them until at least 4-6 weeks out. If you're like me, I was always told that scrambled eggs were a good choice when we had an upset stomach, but new tummy, new rules, I guess? At the pureed stage, I was allowed poached eggs, and they were fine for me. Also egg salad was fine, as long as I mashed it up well first. I agree that pureed meats were generally not appetizing, but mashed-up (not pureed) tuna salad was allowed on my plan and it was pretty good. Pre-surgery, I already mashed up my tuna salad some, so I didn't really notice much of a difference. Chicken however was unpleasant. So much so that I won't be eating chicken of any kind for a while! Another good choice is refried beans or pureed bean soup. You can add unflavored protein powder to those and really up the protein if desired.

    That's smart, I went and got a 2oz sauce cup lol and would try to drink one every 1p min but my biggest problem was that it hurt even with the smallest sipps, and I'd feel full almost to the point of getting sick so I'd have to stop, I changed it to 2oz threw out 15-w0 min, sane thing but I'm now doing better with that, still not above 40oz a day but definitely getting better, and my primary doctor has had me set up for 2 bags if fluids 1-2 days a week since it happened, I'm very grateful for that, she said we will discontinue the fluid appointments when I can drink at least 55-68 oz of water a day ....     what surprised you?

    I just had surgery last week, and just found this app… I was surprised how little pain I felt, but I was also surprised how tired I was post surgery. I actually slept from surgery until late afternoon the following day. But once I woke up I felt great, but I wear out quickly. My doctor said the weight loss will help me feel more energized.

    Wow. Your experience sounds awful, but the advice about an IV sounds good to me. I am only one week post op, so I have nothing to add, except what one of the nurses at my hospital had me do - he had me set a 20 minute alarm and basically laid out a bunch of pill cups filled with water to drink. One every twenty minutes. It has helped.

  19. I’m just about 3 months post op. I’ve been eating about 4 oz per meal and losing pretty well. Tonight I had a frozen meal - it was an Amy’s Cheese Enchilada Meals - with beans and corn. I ate the whole meal. I didn’t feel overly full and when I recorded it (I track my protein) it was almost 9 ounces!!! How did I even eat that much?! Terrified I stretched my pouch or something - though I really didn’t feel overly full!

    Thanks for the comments, I guess it's just his specific requirement. I know it will be hard but I'm seriously determined and will follow his specific guidelines. I was just curious if anyone had to do the 4 weeks.

    what surprised you?

    Everyone is different in this process, however, I was surprised more people didn't struggle with their pre-op diet. I was on a strict liquid only diet for 2 weeks before my surgery. It completely zapped my energy level. I had to work from home because I was so weak. Following surgery I had a very difficult time getting my protein in during the liquid phase because I couldn't stomach any protein shakes or protein water. Many people can bounce back to work relatively quickly following gastric sleeve. But for me it's taken much more time. I didn't expect to take more than 2 weeks off work, yet that's what my body needed.

    there seem to be a lot of different pre-op diets. Mine was strictly ultra-low cal (or no cal) liquids, 4-5 protein shakes a day, plus sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, and a limited amount of tomato juice and broth (I think a cup of each). But that was two weeks. Some people are allowed to have a small dinner with regular food, but I was not. Hopefully you'll be able to since you have to do it for four weeks. Mine was just for two - thankfully!!!
  25. Surgery finally approved and scheduled for late Nov. Has anyone had to be on a pre-op liquid diet for 4 weeks, this is my doctors recommendation.
