Pre-op diet. One week in and feel terrible. Struggling.

But I think you’re onto something with Keto flu. I googled description and that sounds about right excluding cramps. -
Pre-op diet. One week in and feel terrible. Struggling.
lvidacovich replied to fashionista2000's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could it be cold or flu or something else? Might also be what some call Keto flu since you've gone very low carb recently. I doubt it's dehydration - are you getting 96 oz in a day or so? As long as your pee is lemonade color or lighter you're fine on the hydration front. -
Perhaps look into the keto /low carb /sugar free substitutes so you can still have a little flexibility and feel no guilt when you incorporate the items. Not sure if it applies but diet fatigue and burnout is real and sometimes you have to fight the battle. Good Luck 💚

I am on week 2 of a 3 week liquid diet. I get the point of this, but can I not just have some chicken?? I want to chew!! And that’s low fat, I’ll stay in keto. I’m so desperate. The thought of soup and shakes make me sick🤢

I feel like I have mono- 3 weeks PO
allwet replied to Unclechaz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You have "Keto flu" most people dont realize but the weeks after surgery are the same as someone who does keto in that since you cut out the carbs and sugar your body switches to fat burning. the transition is different for everyone but the "keto flu" is a common reaction. it does pass as you Fat Adapt and your body moves to using all those millions of fat cells for energy. Hang tough and watch that fat melt away as your body becomes a true Fat powerhouse. After i reached the Fat Adapted stage i had so much energy it was scary. I couldnt sit down, i was always pacing and felt i needed to keep moving and doing something anything. -

Here's my cornbread recipe. It won a throwdown on YouTube. I have 2 recipes: I prefer this one: https://fluffychixcook.com/low-carb-keto-induction-cornbread/ But this one is a micro version that's super easy: https://fluffychixcook.com/mile-high-keto-cornbread-low-carb-keto-gluten-free/ -

Yay! I do them many ways. Sometimes it is just cocoa powder etc, sometimes I blend up protein powder, cocoa powder, coconut flour etc. They all taste different with different textures, densities, and cals. Mostly I do them without added oil these days. https://fluffychixcook.com/keto-chocolate-cake/ -

Mine didn't even have protein in it 😳😔but yes no coconut or almond flour. Cocoa powder used like flour then all the rest of your ingredients just the same. I don't have measurements sorry, just mix until it is like cake batter I when i tried to make keto cornbread I used vanilla protein powder and coconut flour everyone decided it was more like yellow (spiced) cake -
Yesterday, Wed, Nov. 20 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 115.6 lbs ... so I bought a bag of candied ginger a couple days ago because the Kid made a request for me to make a batch of ginger cookies. Well, turns out me and Mr. love candied ginger and have been snaking out of this bag enough that now I have to go buy some more. I'm going to have to bake these cookies as soon as I replenish our stash because we can't stop eating them!! ...went to bed early last night which was a good thing as 1) I was super tired and 2) I avoided the late night snacking hour. 8:00am - earl grey tea w/ stevia + coffee w/ stevia 2:00pm - salad greens w/ vinaigrette + 1 oz apple + 1/4 jalapeño pepper + 3 oz grilled steak 4:00 pm - 1 Love Good Keto Chocolatey Almond Bar + 1 oz candied ginger 7:00pm - salad greens w/ vinaigrette + 1 oz almonds + 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds + 5 oz grilled chicken Totals: 981 cals - 85g Protein - 50g NET carbs - 42g fat

Yesterday, Tues, Nov. 19 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 115.9 lbs ...ok, so I haven't slept yet. Minor crisis last night and the girlfriends rallied to support one of our own at my place. We stayed up all night with her and of course I had a food spread laid out (because it is ingrained in me to provide endless food and drink to everyone who walks through my door...why is that?!?). And I picked at said food all night. And I feel so unbelievably icky right now, like I need a cleanse or something. Or maybe I just need to sleep. Warning: yesterday's food log is not for faint of heart. I was considering not posting it out of concern of setting a bad example, but I decided I'm going to stick to full transparency. Look away if you have a tendency to judge or are prone to suggestive snacking... 8:00am - earl grey tea w/ stevia + coffee w/ stevia 11:30am - salad greens w/ vinaigrette + 2.5 oz apple + 1/4 jalapeño pepper + 1 tbsp fried onion topping + 4 oz grilled chicken 4:00pm - salad greens w/ vinaigrette + 2 oz apple + 1 oz almonds + 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds 7:30 pm - salad greens w/ vinaigrette + 1.5 oz apple + 1/4 jalapeño pepper + 1 oz almonds + 2 oz ginger beef + 2 oz green beans w/ butter 11:00pm to 7am this morning - 2 Chocolate Coconut Keto Fat Bombs 1 Love Good Fats Keto Chocolately Almond Bar 1 Love Good Fats Keto Coconut Macadamia Bar 1 tbsp almond butter 1 oz almonds 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds 4 oz candied ginger 6 Toffifee candies 2 x 1/4 cup Haagen-Dazs Coffee Ice Cream 4 oz Brie cheese 1 oz Parmesan cheese 3.5 oz smoked turkey breast Totals: 2880 cals - 143g Protein - 179g NET carbs - 165g fat

Last night’s Restaurant Menu Item/choice : “Keto Cobb Salad” : Romaine heart + cherry tomatoes + bacon + cheese crumble + cucumber + egg + 1/2 an avocado + grilled chicken + “Keto Green Goddess” dressing (which I am in love with now, btw) ...also shared a charcuterie board with my dinner companions, but forgot to take a pic of it... -
Yesterday, Sun, Nov. 17 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 114.9 lbs ...went out for dinner (and a later coffee, drinks & dessert) with some friends of ours tonight/last night. I now have a new salad dressing I love and its a creamy one! I ordered a “Keto Cobb Salad” and it came with “Keto Green Goddess” dressing. It was #yum. With the exception of blue cheese, I normally don't like creamy salad dressings. But this one was great...I think because it was more sour-creamy and lighter tasting than what I think creamy dressings are like. I googled the recipe and will totally make a batch soon #doubleYum 9:00am - earl grey tea w/ stevia 1:30pm - salad greens w/ vinaigrette + 2.5 oz apple + .75 oz red onion + 1/2 an avocado + 3 oz grilled chicken 7:00-9:00pm - 2/3 of a Keto Cobb Salad (romaine + 3 cherry tomatoes + 1 slice bacon + 1 tbsp blue cheese crumble + cucumber + 1 egg + 1/2 an avocado + 3 oz grilled chicken + 2 tbsp Keto Green Goddess Dressing) + Charcuterie Stuff (3 oz brie + 3 slices salami + 1 slice prosciutto + 3 tbsp fig jam + 1 tbsp honey mustard + 3 gherkins + 1/2 glass red wine 10:00pm to 1:00am - 1.5 glasses red wine + 1 skinny mojito + 2 tequila + 1/4 slice apple crumble pie + 2 americanos w/ stevia Totals: 2137 cals - 66g Protein - 99g NET carbs - 104g fat

I’m not losing weight anymore!
JessLess replied to jbasspromotions@gmail.com's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm at 11 months and losing very slowly. I know I could do IF or KETO or workout more, but as long as I don't gain weight, I'm not really that concerned. I'm kind of looking at it like practice maintenance, which I know is very hard. Stalls, even long ones, are pretty common, and as long as I'm tracking my food, drinking my water, working out, and taking my vitamins, I think I'm doing OK. My doctor and my goal was 175 and I'm at 168. I do want to get to 150 but that's going to require a little more effort than I really feel like extending right now. -
Yesterday, Thu, Nov. 14 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 115.6 lbs ...seriously felt like I was eating all day long...then had a major dessert and snack binge in the evening while watching movies with the fam. The problem was that all the snacks were laid out on the ottomans in front of me and I just kept mindlessly picking at the spread for like 3 hours. Key word being: MINDLESSLY. 9:30am - coffee w/ stevia 12:00pm - salad greens w/ vinaigrette + 1/2 an avocado + 6 oz grilled chicken 3:00pm - .5 oz chicharron + 1.5 oz beef jerky + 1 Keto choco-coconut Fat Bomb + 3/4 of a KIND nut bar 6:00pm - Avocado Toast (1/4 avocado + salt + pepper + garlic powder + 1/2 slice Keto bread) + 1.5 oz mangoes + 1 KIND nut bar 8:30pm - salad greens w/ vinaigrette + carrots + 1.2 oz gala apple + 1 snack can of lemon pepper tuna + 1 tbsp mayo + 1/2 cup tofu pudding 9:00pm to 12:30pm - 5 peanut candies + 3oz apple + 1 oz cheese + 2.5 oz beef jerky + 1.5 oz dried mangoes Totals: 2566 cals - 165g Protein - 179g NET carbs - 116g fat

Protein and Weight Loss (unrelated)
KarenLR75 replied to lvidacovich's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats to you! I remember from doing keto/low carb way of life prior to have WLS, I lost 55 or maybe 60 lbs in 15 months..yeah, not fast..that I finally found out that TOO much protein gets converted to glucose! I was like "say what?" as I chomped on my 4th piece of bacon that my keto WOL said I could 'eat' as long as I stayed under 20 grams a day (this was in PRE-SURGERY years - I don't eat bacon now out of choice) Although I've had 2 different nutritionists, my primary care dr and 2 bariatric surgeon's confirm that for me, I still just had to ask the surgeon I ended up using...whether I'd still have to be mindful of keeping my protein down...and the answer was that 'yes, too much protein can still and would still get converted to glucose at some point"..but was relieved when my 'target macro' for protein was 80 grams. I have that tidbit stuck in the back of my head so I always get nervous when I go over 80 (am female and only 5'6")...I just chant to myself 'glucose, glucose, glucose"..LOL..and my surgeon was also clear that the majority of protein being taken in during post-op was going all towards healing primarily. I just know 'me' so I keep myself in constant check on my specific protein macro which was identified as my ideal target. Most guys on here I've seen with a much higher protein target. I guess my question would kind of be..IF I were a guy...LOL...is would I lose more weight with less protein (i.e.or even for me as a woman..eating less than 80 but more than 63 or 64?). For me with my SLOW metabolism, my weight loss picks up when I keep my carbs a bit lower than my dr's macro but NOT as low as I was originally keeping my carbs out of habit from doing keto WOL. It's interesting finding out what our 'new normals' are and it is nice when we can work with our teams and make adjustments if needed...to see if that impacts our weight loss..especially when I have been STALLED! -
Today, Mon, Nov. 11 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 114.5 lbs ...so normally grill up 4 or 5 chicken breasts at at time, chop em up and pop in the fridge to take out as needed to top my salads. I dont know whats up with this batch but I feel like they are super-extra-filling or something. I'm stuffed to my throat again after eating tonight's salad. Or, I may just be imagining things. In any case, I am DONE eating today and am posting my menu now. 8:30am - coffee w/ stevia + earl grey tea w/ stevia 12:00pm - salad greens w/ olive oil + carrots + jalapeno peppers + red onion + 3 oz grilled chicken + 1oz peanuts + 1 slice bacon + 1 oz parmesean 2:00pm - 1 oz chicharron + 1.5 Keto Snap Choco-Coconut Fat Bombs + avocado smoothie (1/2 avocado + 1 cup whole milk + stevia) 4:00pm - 1/2 cup full fat cottage cheese + 1 oz blueberries + black pepper + garlic powder 7:00pm - salad greens w/ olive oil + carrots + 3.5 oz grilled chicken + 1/2 an avocado + 1.5 oz almonds Totals: 1930 cals - 121g Protein - 48g NET carbs - 138g fat

This is what I'm making for Thanksgiving "maybe" unless I do smashed roasted cauliflower instead. The difference is that I won't use as much butter and will be making turkey tenderloins cooked the way I cooked the chicken breasts. Yum. And so dang easy!!! I won't even miss the loads of butter! https://fluffychixcook.com/pumpkin-in-browned-butter-aka-refried-pumpkin-keto-allergy-kiss-day-2/ Here's the link to the smashed roasted cauliflower: https://fluffychixcook.com/roasted-mashed-cauliflower-aka-roasted-smashed-fauxtatoes/ I make em the same way now post surgery, but I use MUCH less butter and in place of cream cheese I use Greek nonfat yogurt or neufchatel cheese or lite cheese wedges. -
You can make your own sugar free gummie bear candy out of sf gelatin. And you can flavor it with essential oils, liquid stevia, and add citric acid to make them like sour patch. Then you start stepping down from the candy. But you will likely need to replace the cals with some other source cuz otherwise you will likely start losing again. Also, you can make keto candy like fat bombs with healthy oils/fats + cacao powder, nut butters etc. They add up VERY quickly. But they are usually more satiating. SF peanut butter cups are the bomb. You can also try getting delicious protein bars, cutting them in 8 pieces then freezing them. Pop them like a candy bite. I think you're in a pretty special situation because of your super endurance exercise. I think @Healthy_life2 and @BigViffer could help you with this. They are both power athletes and have to eat in a method to keep their cals high enough for training. Congrats on your losses. The candy is an addiction. Addiction to sugar is as powerful as heroine addiction. I'd also see your doc/RD and ask for help. They may have a temporary medication that can help you with cravings as you try to detox.

Is anyone else always Thirsty?
Dances with Carbs replied to PEGGO's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I dont sip. Havent since couple days post op gastric bypass. I'm thirsty too but we are basically on a keto diet after surgery. When I was on the keto diet before surgery I was always super thirsty. So I think that might be normal. Not sure on not drinking before, during, or after. I can tell when you when I didnt adhere to that rule and ate too soon after I drank, I could only fit 2 or 3 bites in because my stomach was already full. I go tomorrow to have my 6 week check up with blood draw. Have they checked your blood yet for any deficiencies? -
Day 3: The food I'm most currently grateful for would have to be chicken and watermelon. There's so many different dishes you can make with chicken and its been the best source of protein for me since its so easily digested. I chose watermelon too because it was what got me through my horrible recovery. I wasn't able to tolerate any kind of protein shakes or food except for watermelon. Day 4: Best memory I'm grateful for ... hmmm.. let see... there's just so many to chose from. I'm grateful for each Christmas & New Year's spent with my family. These two holidays are such a huge thing in my family and Ill forever cherish the parties and time I spend with them. I'm looking forward to this year! As for the November challenge, well I ate potatoes two days in a row... My nutritionist said potatoes are perfectly fine to eat so but I also hear a lot of people staying away because of Keto. Ive been able to stay away from everything else though!
