    The 5:2 diet

This is the first time since wls that I am not going to weigh myself that I will only be weighing once a week. It will frustrate me too much to lose on the fast days and gain it right back on a regular day. I think if I don't weigh myself , I'll actually do better because I will be afraid to eat. I am not sure of my calories for yesterday. I ate a string cheese deli meat and 1 slice swiss 3 baby back ribs. I took off most of the sauce then I had a terrible Headache, so I had some greek yogurt because I didn't want to take aspirin on an empty stomach. So I think I may have been 600 calories not 500 because the yogurt was 100 calories.

JUNE 2014 POST OP SUPPORT GROUP!

I am finally home from the hospital. I have a drain plug to care for but I'm home. Able to tolerate cottage cheese and yogurt, but not ice cold water. Weird what is so different in taste and textures. Just taking it one day at a time.
  3. Thank you Ginger Snaps and Tgarden. I am doing much better today. Off the pain meds mostly...I am taking a dose at night as I seem to be pretty sore by end of day and feel this will help me sleep. I may not need tonight but will judge by how I feel. My older daughter went to the store for me and got the Kroger Carb control yogurt as it has the lowest sugar but it only has 9 grms of Protein...I either need to add the unjury no flavor protein to this or choose a different yogurt. Like your idea Ginger Snap of adding the Jello powder to the plain yogurt- this way I get the protein I want. Thanks!
  4. Try scrambling with some heavy cream if you are looking for scrambled. I am allergic, so no eggs for me. Also, having surgery on the 15th, my Dr said nothing like eggs until after my next appt (on the 31st). I'm on "thin enough to pass through a regular straw". The thickest I've tried is yogurt thinned with soy milk, which went down well.
  5. Hi! I had a RNY on 7/15 (with a hysterectomy). I'm home and on liquids. I see so many more options than I was given!! I don't have yogurt in my list. I'll have to call my NUT tomorrow and see what she says. Anyway, we ended up renting a wheelchair because I have five kids (three bio two foster) and couldn't be stuck at home anymore. We went to a local fair and I walked some and ride some and it was lovely to get out! Anyone restricted on cold items? I'm told no ice in drinks. Is it truly because it will cause pain?

    Anyone having surgery in May

My personal update: I had my bypass May 5th and I have been slowly healing. I was re-hospitalized because of severe impaction (not fun but I knew it may happen). My system is now working well but it took a while. My food is still between puréed and soft foods. Predominantly composed of one base protein shake a day, Greek yogurt, avocado, refried beans, cottage cheese, canned fruit, low fat shredded cheese, eggs and homemade peanut butter. Going to be trying some of my veggie and soy patties this week as my nutritionist said it was ok. I got my first set of lab results today. Everything looks great but oddly enough my B-12 is now high. I am beginning to lose a bit more hair. I am down 38 pounds and approaching one-derland. I am very happy with my weight loss. I got the ok to start weight training. I started at a size 18 bottom and 2X on top. I am now a loose 16 on bottom and an XL on top. I have given away 4 trash bags of clothes and fit into all but a few things I was to large for. My short term goals are to increase my food intake and variety-exercise-continue to work on swallowing all my pills. I would love to hear from you all and hear about your experiences.
  7. Thanks Ann! I had a check up one month post op....everything was fine. I think chewing is one of my problems. Baby food consistency is fine like yogurts, mash...I thought about flying back if it doesn't get better. Tonight I had meatballs soup and was much better. Solids are my enemies for now.

    June 2020 surgeries

One week post Bypass and I'm allowed to add eggs, hummus, cottage cheese, mashed beans and yogurt to my liquids. I ate an egg this morning. It was DELICIOUS. No problem. And I've been queasy in the past. Hope they go well for you!

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Thanks Dub and Britt. Day before yesterday I had the idea of making Tiziki. I had all of the ingredients except for mint (I make a Persian version that requires mint). 2% Fage yogurt, cucumber with no skin, lemon juice, salt, pepper. I put everything in the vita mix blender and blended the heck out of it. It was freaking delicious! 10 seconds after this I was doubled over in pain. So I’ve been scared any vegetables ever since. I may get brave and try a little sip of this. Hopefully things go smoothly! Britt is this the tomato basil soup you tried?

Same in the United States. Low-fat yogurt is an option when you're on full liquids. 😀

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

@BluesLily: None whatsoever. I tried eggs, no problem. Second time, cramps galore. Cottage cheese, first time, crazy pain. Second time ok until half way through. Pain with peaches. Pain with Greek yogurt, but not light yogurt. Fine with Tofu, until halfway through second portion. It’s random and VERY painful.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Just returned from a weekend family (3 of our adult kids who live out of state, sister in law and the kids friends) trip to Las Vegas. I’m feeling like I need an accountability post.... 6 weeks out, I brought a cooler with Power aid zero, protein drinks, yogurt, cheese and other protein foods that barely got touched. I ended up eating in the buffet twice with the family. I did make decent choices, sticking to protein, few carbs and no sugar but probably ate more that I should have. At another restaurant I didn’t order food and just ate bites from my family’s plates...more carbs than I normally eat for sure. I also ate 1/2 of a KFC chicken thigh including the breading on the long drive home....way too much grease and sat like a rock in my pouch. I was never much of a drinker at home, occasionally socially, but in Vegas tequila shots were the norm. Well not now, I didn’t do any shots but I did however have Captain Morgan and water with Mio style pineapple/mango drops consistently while playing slots....we played a lot of slots. The alcohol did seem to take effect quicker, but I drank slow and free Vegas drinks are not strong, so I was good. I was cautious and mindful though to be extra aware. So....Today I’m feeling like I’ve been on shaky ground and it’s time to get back to WLS reality. Priority number 1 is to make sure I get in 80oz plus of water, make sure my food is all protein, no carbs and keep calories in the 600 range. I was so happy to spend time with the kids. I don’t get to see some of them very often, but I’m not thrilled with way I handled my responsibilities as a WLS patient.

    APRIL Bandits' Exercise Challenge!

Well this morning was fruit and yogurt for 160cal. Skipping lunch as I am not hungry and we are having a big bbq later this afternoon, company hits at 4. I wanted to save my calories for a nice little piece of a fruit tart that I bought for desert tonight.
  15. OMG! Nearly everything gets stuck and gives me pain. I can't eat any solids in the morning at all. The worst offenders are as follows any bread, dough, anything made with flour really sux for me chicken breast pork chops steak ( except for an expensive cut like a filet) mashed potatoes(even with gravy) boiled eggs. The whites are the worst. Hamburg (even the tiniest well chewed bite) Pasta usually gets stuck, but sometimes works for me if cooked to mush, but then why bother when it's that mushy eewwwwee! sushi rice sux, I'm in agony until I finally get it up (YUCK)! As you can see, the holidays are pretty much of nothing for me. Things that I can eat the chickens dark meat spare ribs if not dry Soups crackers yogurt lowfat tortilla chips with salsa steamed rice almost all veggies if cooked crunchy things go down good most of the time no sugar added fudge pops 45 calories, and a great treat when i'm craving chocolate. Homemade baked hotwings sausage(although I hardly ever eat it because it is fattening) kielbasa(same as sausage though) cooked cabbage I don't know, I don't have a wide range of solids that I can eat, so I still drink my Protein shakes everyday and take my Calcium chews and Vitamins to make sure I'm getting what I need. It seems that I'm a sucker for punishment though, because every now and again I try to eat the repeat offenders, and am always wishing I hadn't. When will I ever learn? I'm getting a little better though, I wait at least a month before I try it again LOL! Well there you have it folks, the long list of delicious foods I have to plan my meals with (NOT)! lol
  16. The pill that is "stuck", may actually be stuck, or it dissolving may have caused some serious irritation. I would try a sip or 2 of warm liquids, see if that helps it. If it stays down, then wait another 30-45 minutes, and try a couple more sips. At that point if things stay down, I'd try some yogurt, or SF pudding...to maybe help coat things a bit. If you bring up the fluids, or are still hurting, it might be time to call the Dr. for advice. Most times when I eat something that I get stuck it is not the food that was offending, it was me and how I ate it. Think big bite, chew chew swallow. NOT a good bandster!!! When I do that a few sips of pineapple juice usually help it break down and pass on through. Getting stuck, is when you have too much food, or too big of a bite, or the food has worked its way into a form that will not pass through the stoma---the part of the stomach where the band is placed...the tightest area. My list of cannot eat foods is short---the only thing I won't try again is a yeast donut....I took one bite, it grew to be the size of a dozen donuts it felt like!!! I PB'd that one! Have no desire to repeat that! I have foods I need to be careful with. Watermelon, I have to take itsy bitsy tiny bites, and can only eat a little bit. I think it is too much like eating and drinking together! If I eat Pasta, I have to eat something with it. I cannot sit down for instance and eat more than 2-3 bites of a bowl of fettucine. But if I add some grilled chicken and veggies, I can eat 3 times that. I think it is because as Tracy said early on, the glutens break down and get gummy, and then swell up...the other foods give it something to work with as it digests. So yes I eat pasta and rice, just carefully. Actually eating these foods keeps me in line and eating properly! I have no problem with meat, when it is freshly cooked, reheated it is usually just not moist enough. Most snack foods are fine, popcorn included. Bread, I can eat, but choose not to eat a lot of it. I have to do it like my pasta, with other things. I cannot (I guess, never really tried it!!!) eat a plain slice of bread, but can eat a sandwich. I can in no way eat a whole sandwich though, so choose to add most of my meat and cheese, and fold over, and still manage about half of it. Now please don't any of you take this the wrong way---it is meant as encouragement for you too. If you scroll back through the last few pages as an example, and scan through the posters, many of them are newly banded. Not all, but many. I had times through the 2 fills I have had, where I was tighter, and had more issues with food. I have found what I believe to be my sweet spot now, and have restriction, but am able to eat most anything in moderation, and do just that. I would imagine, as each of you get further along in the banding experience, you can and cannot eat lists will change a bit. As has been mentioned sometimes it changes from morning to night!! Hang in there, and you will find out what YOUR band likes and doesn't like---today---and will work on tomorrow, tomorrow! Kat

    November Bandsters!

Thank you! :thankyou:I can honestly say that for the first time in my life, I am proud of myself. It is a nice feeling. I am not doing anything special I don't think.:noidea: I am very happy with losing 50 lbs. and that is a great accomplishment but I want to lose 230 lbs. so 50 is just a drop in the bucket. My surgeon has set his goal for me at losing 200 lbs. so I guess I am 1/4 of the way there! I think that the reason mine may seem to come off quicker is because I have a lot more to lose than others. I may be wrong on this, but it seems logical to me. What do I eat? Well, I try to stick to 3 small meals per day. Once in a while I will have a snack but I try to not do that too often. Typical foods for me are: rice chex with skim milk, oatmeal, boiled egg whites, sugar free/fat free pudding (I have lots of it), low fat cheese, some mashed potatoes or baked with a little fat free butter, fat free refried beans with a little low fat cheese on top (YUM!), vegetable soup and fat free yogurt. Other things are: fresh fruits such as bananas, apples (w/o the skin), peaches; my favorite vegetables are green beans, lima beans and broccoli so I tend to eat them more than anything else. As far as meats, I have boneless skinless chicken breast (baked) mostly. My husband is big into hunting so we eat wild game and I never buy things such as beef. Deer meat is a lean meat and better for you. I have had small amounts of deerburger and steak. There are obviously other foods in with these but these are the things that I have most often. Not a lot of variety but so far I am not bored with it and it is working. As far as excercise goes, I try to walk on the treadmill 4 times per week and do some light weights to help keep the sagging skin from getting so bad. So far the weights are working because I don't have any sagging skin! I also don't sit in front of the tv like I did before because I have this amazing amount of energy so I actually want to be up doing things. I did have my hubby take pics of me the night before surgery but I have been afraid to have him take any since because I have a hard time seeing my weight lost (since it's me). However, other people are noticing it and I guess I afraid to see the pics because I don't want to be disappointed if it's not as noticeable as I hope it is. Maybe I will break down this evening and have my hubby take some new pics. :nervous
  18. I have shared my rules for avoiding PBing on other threads, but I will also post them here. Since following these rules, I have gone from PBing nearly every week, to PBing one time in almost three months: 1. liquids only for Breakfast (protein shake which includes 100% of essential Vitamins and minerals) 2. Soft/easy to eat food for lunch: chili, cheese, Soup, Beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, tuna salad, anything mushy 3. Wine before dinner, 1-2 glasses every night (then normal dinner). 4. If I am ravenous, absolutely no solid food, but take a Protein shake or drink wine before eating. Since following these, my PB situation has improved very dramatically. In fact, the one time in nearly three months I did PB, it was because I did not follow rule #4. As long as I follow the rules, I am golden. I hate Pbing more than anything, and am so grateful to have found a protocal that works for me.

Shrinkin' Violets Part 3 Read HERE!

Good morning, soon to be afternoon, Violets. I've been up for a long time, but have been UN decorating the house. All the Christmas stuff is now put away till next year. Ethan is here and we've been coloring as well as reading his new books. The Bobster is out getting the ingredients for the ham & cheese soup. He's also getting some yogurt and soup at hand and broth for us for the next two days. So far today I've had 2 glasses of white cran/peach diet Ocean Spray, frozen, not stirred. It's yummy and the activity of getting the house back in order has kept me from being hungry. All of Bob's errands are helping him not eat either. DIL Jenn picked up their new used car Wednesday and now we find out it needs $700 worth of repairs. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR..Needless to say we are not happy campers, but we know Joe and Jenn don't have the money to pay for the repairs so I'll bet you can guess the outcome. sighhhhhh Our grandbaby is due Feb.25. TracyK... you GO, girl!!!!!! We take turns being role models and right now, YOU'RE IT!!! Enjoy!! Laura.. beautiful car. Carson will be riding in style. Prayers to Jenn and her surgery. Welcome SueSue. We are always happy to have new Violets... as long as they post each and every day!! (We oldtimers post every hour!) Ethan is very quiet so I better go check on him. BBL...

Shrinkin' Violets Part 3 Read HERE!

Oh Kat.. I'm so sorry to hear about all the grief surrounding what should be an awesome experience. Abbey's husband sounds just awful and neither you nor Rick have any reason to be treated the way you have been. I certainly understand Rick's anger and your hives. Take care of and support each other. We're here for you to lean on. Our prayers to your family. I've been good on my eating again today. I had a slice of cheese and a couple of bites of yogurt for Breakfast and a piece of talapia for lunch. Kris brought Ethan some french fries and she had chinese take out. She's left for her doctor's appointment and Ethan's mom just came and got him. She got out a couple of hours early today and I'm happy I have some quiet time before choir. I just took some peanutbuttered pinecones rolled in bird seed out and hung them from the tree branches. We had a ton of birds this morning.. a good sign of a storm. It's still snowing out and the Bobster has already done one pass on the driveway with the snowblower. I better take advantage of my quiet time and get some house cleaning done. Ethan tends to leave it like a tornado hit it. BBL...
  24. Hi, What about cheeses and yogurt? I eat a couple of servings of cheese with a hard cracker every day. Also, ham is quite salty - can you eat pork in other forms like a pork roast or pork chop? I also eat a lot of chicken, but I make it in a lot of different ways. I also eat one small serving of oatmeal every day for Fiber. I will have a little whole grain toast with an egg to change it up a little. Good luck, Lara

    Newbie looking for Oct sleevers!

My liquid diet (two weeks long!! starting the 7th) is seriously liquid. Broth, sugar free jello, tomato soup, shakes. But thank goodness I can have one protein bar pet day, yogurt and oatmeal. But no solids. Wahh!! Lol. They said flavored oatmeal is okay so I'll go with varieties. But still, blah lol
