June 2022 surgery buddies
Adria.Martin replied to Jessica1024's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey all! I had DJB-S on June 29. Recovery has been a little rough. I can’t stand most protein shakes/drinks since surgery and I’m having some trouble getting my clear liquids in everyday. That means I’ve been in the infusion center a few times for IV fluids, so that I don’t dehydrate. I can tolerate some foods just fine (yogurt, oatmeal, cottage cheese) and others don’t agree with me at all (tuna and salmon). I’ve not been as active as I think I should be, but I’m pretty weak. I’m hoping this week I will be able to turn a corner. Shoot me some tips and tricks about proteins. I hope you’re all doing well! -

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first

As of today, I have officially dropped a full clothing size!!!! The scale isn't moving again (hello stall #2) but I dropped from a size 26/28 to a size 22/24. WHAT??!?! I literally cried. I can't believe I'm sitting here in size 22/24 clothes. Right now. I also went out to dinner with my husband last week and we sat at a booth and my stomach wasn't smooshed against the table. I had space there!!! Again...WHAT?!?!? -

It seems like when I work out more, I stall. So I was trying to just stay with what I had, and I'm still stalled. So now I'm going to ease my work outs and just walk. Hopefully that will help. -

I know exercise should be part of the routine but everytime I tried to incorporate more intense workout, I used to stall. So I kinda gave it a rest and relied mostly on my 45 mins of daily walk for exercise purposes. So may be, go easy on the workout routine especially this early in the weight loss phase. Once you're more settled with a certain number you can always build your physique as long as your mindset is on point. For me personally, stalls pressured into negative thinking of *what if this is it* and I won't lose anymore. Or that I'll lose slowly and then bam done losing at a weight I am uncomfortable with. This fear always hovered about and I didn't want to work against my sanity. So I decided to take lose with intense workouts. And focused mostly on eating and losing. I am at a happy place for now. And once I have reached about 120, my mindset will be so much better to form a good workout routine even if I had to up my calories. Bottom line is, try easing your workout routine. -
I thought ketosis flu was more the first week? I am having the sleeve done. I really hope It gets better soon

Hi Bebaeg, Thank you so much for asking. I had my revision on May 9. I’ve lost 33-ish pounds. I get stuck in the middle of the next 10 pounds, so right now I’m fluctuating between 264 and 266. When I first stalled, I realized that I was severely constipated. I’m finding that that happens a lot. Unfortunately, the solution leads to the opposite problem of diarrhea. 🙄 I’m grateful for what I’ve lost, but it’s still frustrating. -
Day 4 Post Op: surgery was 7/12 and I was on ice chips only until the following day when I had imaging to check for leaks. Since there were no leaks I progressed to full liquid diet. I stayed one more night and was released home on 7/14. Pain is decreasing significantly each day. I've been taking my Norco before going to bed and every so often during the day if sore. My incisions inch like crazy, which is good because it means they're healing. I did have a 100 degree fever the night I came home, but it hasn't increased and I've been monitoring it just in case. Beside the expected discomfort from the incisions, it is really a rather uneventful recovery. The only challenge so far is sleeping since I cannot use my cpap for two weeks post-op and I've been snoring like a lumber jack! But hopefully that, too, will be a thing of the past. I hope everyone else is recovering nicely! Sent from my SM-S908U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

stalls are very common during weight loss. You'll likely hit several of them along the way. Make sure you're sticking to your program and try to stay off the scale when you hit them. They'll eventually break and you'll be on your way again. Keto "works" right away because carbs hold on to water, so those big drops are water weight (and over time it works because you're taking in fewer calories overall). You're taking in fewer calories NOW, too. The only thing Keto would do would be to let go of water, causing a temporary drop in weight. Water weight doesn't count. Just stick to your clinic's plan. -
I’m a week out from surgery and yes I’m hungry. I had the lapband for 10 years and never once felt hungry. I am still weak feeling. I’m now eating protein shakes, broths, jello, Greek yogurt and I added a scrambled egg. The egg did help. I did read that when you don’t get enough protein you will be hungry. I can’t eat more than I am.

That's really smart. i didn't bother to do that and I should have. I went into my 2 week pre op diet and was completely shell-shocked at how hard it was. I definitely should have started early to get my mind and stomach ready lol -

Get rid of your scales then, ( I too am a daily weigher but I don't class anything as a stall until it's been 4 weeks without any movement. ) the further out you get the slower the movement in the scales I only record my weight once a month now and even though on the daily I don't see much difference I am still loosing a tiny bit each month. -
I wasn’t working when I had my surgery but started a new contract with my old employer - different section - 4 weeks later. I told them I had a surgery & my boss just presumed it was a female surgery so he never asked for more information, which I was amused by & never corrected. The specifics of the surgery are really none of their business & you can say it’s private & you don’t want to talk about it. I just intimated the subsequent weight loss was me deciding to make changes & trying to lose weight to improve my health.

Hello everyone, I’m two months post op and I’m having a lot of trouble getting any food/liquid to stay in my system. I have tried just about everything and nothing seems to sit well with my stomach. From clear protein, protein shakes, jello, beans, soups, and much more. Some days I only get some water in and throw up everything else, other days I can keep down just a tiny bit of the protein. I’ve also tried spacing out my intake and drinking slowly and taking tiny sips or bites but nothing seems to work. I’m starting to get really worried because I’m feeling more nauseous than before. And I’ve recently started to get light headed and almost fainted today. Unfortunately my bariatric doctor is out for the next two weeks. Should I just go to a regular physician or clinic? Will they be able to help? I’m a bit hesitant since I’m so comfortable with my surgeon but I don’t think I should wait two weeks either. I may be overthinking going to another doctor

You just had pretty major surgery lots of things will be a struggle for the first week or so & then while you are healing. It’s not uncommon for people to struggle to get in their protein & water in to begin. Honestly the first three days I wouldn’t have drunk more than a cup of broth total. But as long as you’re making an effort & there is a steady improvement you’ll be ok. And yes, warm drinks are often more soothing & easier to tolerate than cold. Don’t be afraid to use hot water or microwave your shake. I did it with my chocolate one every day. (Some powdered proteins don’t mix well in hot water so heat those after you mix them.) I swear I still can feel cold drinks as they pass all the way down from my mouth to my tummy which will then clench. I spread my meds out across the day too. Not an issue. Helped with some of the nausea from the vitamins too. It does better & easier just give yourself time to heal.

I'm 6 weeks post-op and I'm in Jamaica for a family reunion and we are staying at an all-inclusivehotel for a few days. Some parts of this trip as been hard because I am constantly surrounded by the foods I enjoyed growing up but I am unable to enjoy them now. It also feels awkward to be out eating with the family and having to find the right food to eat only to be full in a few bites. Luckily my family understands and are supportive. It also helps when I can make myself busy with other things like being in the pool. Sent from my SM-G996U using BariatricPal mobile app

I had my 2 week post op today which is really almost 3 weeks lol but I have lost 48lb and I was cleared to start my vitamins and purées I am ecstatic! For dinner I’m having just a bit of hummus! -
Three years ago I was revised from VSG to RNY for GERD. I’m very pleased that I am still GERD free and no new problems (let’s hope it stays that way) Everything feels very normal now and I can barely feel any major difference from VSG let alone life prior to WLS. I know it’s different but I’ve settled in. I moved early 2021 so I’m establishing care with a new bariatric practice for continued yearly monitoring/testing. I don’t see a lot of revision postings by anyone as far out as I am, so if anyone is out there please let all know how it’s going and if anyone has questions feel free to ask ❤️

Covid and my sleeve
noteasierstronger replied to SleeverSk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was looking for a thread like this on Tuesday. I had to make myself eat a couple days into COVID, because I knew I needed the protein even if I didn't feel like eating. It has gotten better, but I definitely am not on the same eating/drinking schedule I was last week yet. I am just trusting that if I keep doing what I can, my body will get there. Stupid COVID. TORe Gastric Revision Procedure
GeorgiaPeach48 replied to GeorgiaPeach48's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the TORe procedure done 6/15 and I weighed 201, and this morning I weighed 188. I feel great. I haven’t had any issues at all since surgery ( nausea & vomiting) and healing was rather quick. I felt like my normal self after a few weeks. -
I told my boss and my mom and that's it (not counting my husband, of course). I told other people about 2 weeks after the surgery.

I don't have monthly follow ups. I had my 2 week in the office, then the 1 month on the phone, my 3 month will be on the phone, my 6 month will be in the office, and my 1 year will be on the phone. I asked if I could come in the office and not do phone check ins and they said no, that they do it over the phone. And I asked if I could at least have check ins more often and they said no, that it isn't necessary. So I'm kind of on my own to monitor my weight. And as much as I want to limit how often I weigh, I find myself still weighing too often. -

Definitely go at your pace! For me i started crossfit a few weeks after surgery and its definitely been my most consistent form of exercise over the past 3 years. and 100% the reason i look the way i do. And when you do decide to up your caloric intake, just remember to stick to healthy choices, and give yourself time to figure out your calorie range. There is no perfect formula. Everyone is different. i also completely understand the mental side of all of this. upping my calories was harder mentally then any of my runs lol. it is scary. but one thing i am sure of, if you exercise an hour a day 5-6 times a week, it will be hard to gain weight back. find something you love and stick to it. i highly recommend crossfit to anyone regardless of age, weight, size and so on!!. congrats on your loss so far and keep crushing it!
