Another Stall? Or is this it?
Tracyringo replied to cutiepie34's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would go 3 weeks without losing then drop over the course of a week to 10 days, hang in there ! -
Hello y’all! I just wanted to give an update on my journey so far. It has been rough. I was in the hospital 2 nights for my initial surgery. Was released on a Thursday. The following Sunday I was back in the hospital due to cellulitis in my left side but not from my incisions. I was there overnight because of the cellulitis and dehydration. I was released the next day. I was working of fluids and was fine but got very little in when it came to anything but water. I thought it was normal. I was getting in 32-48oz of water and the nutritionist said that was good for only being 2.5 weeks post op but to keep working on it. Week 3 rolls around and I am having a hard time getting food in and I start having sliming episodes (lapbanders y’all know what I mean). Then it progressed to throwing up the little bit of soft/purées foods I was getting in. Then it progressed to me only getting i16-24o of water in a day and throwing that up. I was having what felt like stuck episodes. So I called my surgeons office and went in and saw one of the partnering surgeons and he did a swallow test. I told him before the swallow test that it feels like the area the band was placed is what I think is causing the issue. Sure enough it was. It was so tight that they scheduled me for a EGD with dilation for this morning. It may take several dilations to fix the issue but it felt so good to drink and eat something without feeling like I have a huge golf ball in my esophagus and stomach and then throwing up and aiming for literal hours. Night before last I ate about 1.5 tablespoons of food and slimed and threw up from around 10 p.m.-7:30a.m.. I was over it and knew for sure there was an issue. I didn’t sleep because I was throwing up slime balls every 15-20 minutes. ow to work on hydration and resting. I am very fatigued and weak. I got this. And even with these complications I would do it again. I went from 247 the day I started my preop diet to 232.2 day of surgery and today I weighed in at 215.8. Slower than some but still thankful and blessed.

Duodenal Switch with heart failure
RickM replied to Thunder Chicken's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Likewise, I can't offer specifics for your condition, but this should be worked out between the surgeon and your cardioligist. Most of the surgeons who get into the DS these days are top notch, as it is a more complex procedure than most of the other WLS and it takes time and resources to develop, and maintain, those skills. An option that may be suggested if your condition warrants it is to do the DS as a two step procedure, doing the VSG part of it first and then the intestinal switch part later after you have lost some of your weight and are stronger. This is sometimes done in cases where they don't want to put the patient through a lengthy anesthesia. The VSG can usually be done in about an hour or less, while the whole DS may typically take three hours or so, but occasionally 6-7 in complex cases, It doesn't seem to be done much as it was 10-15 years ago as the state of the art has improved over the years with reduced surgical times and better anesthesia care, but is still used in some cases. -
February 2019 weight loss buds
AZhiker replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It's so good to see how well everyone is doing 6 months out. So interesting hearing about how everyone is eating now, the challenges, and how friends/family are reacting. I am trying to get the last few pound off to reach goal and then would like to go down 5-7 more, just to add some wiggle room. Once I reach goal, I never want to see the 150's again. My mom and daughter weigh between 140-150 and they are actually feeling a little threatened! They have never really known me as anything but heavy, and although they are happy for me, it seems that they (my daughter, especially) are feeling a bit odd about me possibly weighing less than them. I discovered a little life saver tip. I have several 70-100 calorie snacks I make and freeze, and then when I might be tempted to grab something not so good, I can grab and nuke one of these. They are also a good supplement to any meal or to stave off the hungries on their own. 1) Mini quiches (made in cupcake tins. No crust, Made with eggs, milk, onion, mushrooms, cheese, broccoli and a few cubes of gluten free stuffing mix.) 80 cal, 3 gm protein. (Good cold or hot.) 2) Turkey meatballs. (made with ground turkey, shredded zucchinni, eggs, onion, finely ground GF dressing cubes instead of cracker or bread crumbs). 100 cal, 6 gm protein. (Good cold or hot.) 3) Pumpkin custard squares (made with pumpkin, eggs, milk, spices and a little monkfruit sweetener.) 100 cal, 3 gm protein. (Just kept in fridge and eaten cold.) 4) I also keep a pot of turkey/veg soup in the fridge. I cup only has 50 calories, 6 gm protein. A good way to get in a lot of veggies. It is very filling if I am feeling a bit hungry. 5) My final little treat is a sweet one that I use sometimes in the evening. It is the only sweet splurge I allow myself, and I have no sweet cravings. 1 TBS 72% cacao chips with 1 TBS (10 )raw almonds. Yum!!! 150 calories, 4 gm protein. Best wishes to all the Feb 2019 buddies, as we approach the final stretch! Hugs to all. -

July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op
Flo-grown replied to Mom_of_Chaos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, Today is my 2nd day back at work, I've had no issues. I'm still struggling to get my water in daily. I'm doing protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and pureed protein for dinner. I haven't lost any weight this week but from what I've learned it's common. I'll stay the course and wait it out. Being back at work means I get to go up 3 flights 6x a day. It's great excercise. I've been walking on breaks and lunch even though it's been miserably hot here in Tampa, FL. Hope all my surgery siblings are doing well [emoji847] 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 265 CW 250 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app -

I'm in the same boat. I'll be 10 months post op this weekend and have 10 more pounds to get to my goal weight. Things have come to a screeching halt the last 6 weeks. I'm eating on plan, exercising, and keeping at 1000 calories per day, as my program requires. At 160 pounds, I should still be losing at a good clip if I'm eating 1000 calories per day, since my total daily energy expenditure is about 1700 calories. But it's not really coming off. I have loosened my intermittent fasting restrictions lately as I bumped up my calories because it was hard to get it all in, and I feel like that is also slowing my loss, but I simply can't get in 1000 calories per day without spreading my eating out more. I may try the alternate day restriction that another user suggested!

Anxiety and head hunger are killing me
KT1981 replied to KT1981's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have noticed that as I get further out from the surgery (10 months out this weekend) I am more susceptible to those less-than-satisfying foods, so I try to be cognizant of that. I love my Premier shakes to get my protein in on a rough day, but those do almost nothing to satisfy me now, where a few months ago they would have kept me full for a few hours. Unfortunately, my current issue seems to be more about compulsion and head hunger than any real satiety issues. -
Hi everyone! Does anyone know the best way to get ur fluids in to meet the 64 oz of fluid. I had the gastric bypass on 8/8/19 and its hard trying to keep up and very overwhelming. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

New food intolerances after revision?
Shells_Almost_There replied to GingerSlim's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I find that I can't have the protein bars or shakes that I relied on before and after VSG. Now, they are too sweet and (sorry, TMI) I almost immediately get the shakes (dumping) and will probably have to run to the bathroom. And really, that's what's changed the most after my revision to RNY - I haven't had more than maybe 5 normal BMs in 19 months. -

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
pssk replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi all. I’m 55 and scheduled for RNY on 10/15/19. It is great to read this thread and hear how well those over 50 are doing! -
It has been two weeks and I've met my first "mini" goal! Yes, I've missed food but I also want this very bad. I had my follow up and staple removal yesterday and was told no wine for my birthday, in September, but a small glass for my husband's in December would be ok. I have to remember I didn't get in this weight mess in two weeks and it won't go away in two weeks. It is a journey, I know this as I made this trip with the lap band 10 years ago. I also realize when you are as large as I was no one will notice until I lose a lot! The little victories that I have noticed, both feet easily go on the scale, I can go up the front steps without pulling myself up, my knees hurt less. I will take these victories and celebrate. My husband is very supportive and I have to remember that he also has the right to eat what he would normally eat. He has stepped up and is learning to make his meals himself, that is pretty funny as he's never cooked. I am in a good place today. For those that are starting out, there are good days and there are small victories you can do it.

Freakish Restriction???
KarenLR75 replied to KarenLR75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish for relief from true hunger pains and that you get the restriction. While you are waiting your 10 week countdown, you can read accounts from other post-op newbies who mess up like me and hopefully you will be a much savvier post-op WLS patient!! -
OH my gosh..1 semi on topic post (from me): Was feeling really bad after the egg saga but still went with youngest daughter to Sam's as our heat index was like 110 and we've been trying to get together a few times a week to walk. We walked for about 1 hr and 45 mins. She really has to stop to see everything. I take off with the cart, holding my water and my 10 lb purse..and I've warned her that it actually hurts me knee and back more to stand in one place for too long...plus I want a more forceful walk effort..

Dirty dark sleeve secrets :P Confessional
KarenLR75 replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also took your post as a conversation starter. That is a big issue sometimes with all of this 'written communication' is interpretation of tone and intent sometimes. My answers to your inquiry are as follows: 1) Vitamin query - I'm still on vitamin patches only and I have had 1 day each week where I've forgotten to put on a new patch. The 2nd time I forgot, I was back at the hospital getting IV fluids and find out my blood thinning levels were way too high. I let the vitamin patch slide when I got home as I momentarily was simply overwhelmed. I also have huge invested interest in trying to do anything to stave off as much hair loss as possible. I understand that I can still do all the very SMALL things that MAY have a slight impact (or not) on trying to reduce hair loss and it may not matter one iota. However, I will at least know that I did all that anyone has suggested/can think of/ dr input/ veteran input, etc. In the end, what will come...will come. And probably on Month 4 when I'm on a cruise ship! 2) Regarding NSAID's - ABSOLUTEY not cuz am on a blood thinner so I've been used to avoiding these since 2011. It would be a great threat to me physically, especially these days. I also remember a woman I worked with for 10 yrs who downed multiple doses of Ibuprofen throughout the day..way more than suggested & ended up with MAJOR issues in the hospital with her stomach/intestines and that sticks in the back of my mind. 3) Eating out - too afraid & am supposed to just start purees tomorrow. After my experience today, am going to throttle that back & talk to Dr. When time comes that I felt am ok with eating out, I'll go to places where I know I can order a healthy/clean meal. This is an area I identified as potential weakness as my emotional/mental wellbeing needs more work. I do however follow a fun thread of BEFORE & AFTER food/meal pics and have learned a lot of easy things. Also learned that I'm online with some AMAZINGLY gifted cooks and meal 'wonder workers'. There are also ppl like Fluffychix and others that will help out with ppl seeking easier ways to get their meals at home. One mental/or experience advantage I have is that I was a member of AA/NA for many yrs and I still keep at heart the warning to stay away from people, places and things that can jeopardize my 12 step program or 'insert goal here' Err..I forgot the other questions! LOL -

Freakish Restriction???
AZhiker replied to KarenLR75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, bypass. It is much better now, but then, I am also relearning how to eat - to slow down and take smaller bites and much smaller portions. It has taken a while for my eyes to catch up with the new tummy. Before surgery, I had no sense of fullness. I could eat and eat and eat and never stop. The surgery has definitely given me the fullness very quickly, but I had to learn what that felt like and how to stop BEFORE feeling full, because if I ate until I was just feeling full, 10 minutes later I would be in agony. I am learning how to eat like a normal person who naturally stops when they've had enough.
