Tired And Cant Stand The Smell Of Food
MyGastricSleeveLife replied to wannabe2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you can't handle regular Water, add Crystal Light or some other flavorings. Like massindex said, you need to make sure you get as many fluids as possible. Right after surgery, anything counts toward your liquid total for the day, but you need to make sure you're staying hydrated somehow or you'll end up back in the hospital with dehydration. As far as smells go, it is different for everyone. I noticed smells were stronger, but they didn't bother me. However, I do have a friend who said the smells bothered her for the first week or so after surgery. Hang in there!! -
I've noticed too that my restriction is very inconsistent. When I first got my last fill I felt looser than before it, now several weeks later, this past week, EVERYTHING gives me trouble, even things I previously could handle with no problem. Go figure. I'm also losing soooooooo slow. Like 2 pounds in the last month or so.

Spotting ... 3 weeks post op ... TMI maybe?
IWannaBeSkinny posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Guys, Sorry if this is TMI. I was banded on Jan. 12th. One week later I started my period and had a semi normal one. Then a couple of days ago I spotted and that was it. Then last night I woke up feeling really sick and went to the bathroom and I was spotting again. I thought it was going to be an actual period, but, this AM nothing else. I am / was really crampy feeling. So, is this normal? Anyone else is the same boat? Thanks guys... -
Are you weighing yor Protein? If not I recommend getting a digital food scale (walmart, target); and measuring out 3 or 4 oz. Eat that first and then low fat/cal veggies until full. If you are not measuring you WILL eat too much protein. It took me 6 months of fills to get restriction (10.6 cc's). I am a slow loser even though I exercise 7 days a week (minumum 60 minutes) and eat very conservatively.

what am i doing wrong?
janinemaire replied to em0102's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also walk, 2 miles most days of the week. I took me months to get into the habit of exercising now I hate when I miss a day. I think your goal needs to be where you feel comfortable, mine goal is about 10 pounds higher then it should be for my height. I never did protein shakes, I think real food is the most filling. Do you journal your food? If you stick with to the basic ( high protein/low carbs) you will continue to lose. Sometimes a shock to your body can be to increase of calories for a day then lower them. Or very low carbs for a day. One thing I learned is our bodies seldom do what we expect it to do. Good luck -
Are you tracking your food? You may want to use an online tracker to track your eating and exercise. That way, if you have good losses one week you'll know what you did to accomplish it. Good luck!

Totally1 Not only do I probably know more about nutrition than they do, but I probably eat better as well. I know all about low fat low carb high low glycemic superfoods that rev your metabolism.... so while you much on Cheetos and ham with mayo on white bread when I've eaten a grilled chicken salad with olive oil and lemon juice every single day for lunch this week--- save your lecture about 'just eating less and exercising more'. If 'Put the Fork Down' worked, we would all be thin.

I started off getting my Protein shakes in and then one day, I couldn't stand the thought of another Protein shake so almost a week ago, I started eating boiled shrimp to get my Protein and have had nothing but energy since. Hopefully I can add chicken breast and other meats in a few days. You're lightyears ahead of me though because my problem is that I can't get my fluids in. It helps that it doesn't have to be Water but most other fluids have carbs which is a no-no.

TO GET OR not get a fill? Please help me decide
imaluckydog commented on katieocean's blog entry in Blog 76052
I was in the same place a few months back. I had the same delima. I have had a total of three fills and I have refused the past two times as I am as full as I ever want to be. I was banded June 29th. It takes me forever to eat and Bread crispy and crusty are ok in very small amounts. Soft bread is a no go and has been from the start. Three fills did me in. I will toss the cookies if I eat too fast and do not chew well enough. I have learned well what I can and cannot eat. My last fill was just a very small amount and it was all I needed. I have taught myself the better eating habits and my weight has just fallen off and my energy has picked up. I must say I almost had some taken out but I just went slow for a few more days and everything settled down. I did feel deprived for a while but I got over it fast enough...You will know if you are tight enough that is for sure. It took a good 4 to 5 days after the 3rd fill to register and feel the tightness then I was like woops!!!! I had to slow down. I do not go back until Feb 22, I just pushed my next apt. out farther so I would not have to deal with it. I am hoping that by then I may need another. Your Dr. or NP will ask you questions and figure out if you need one a fill that is. I could have refused the third one but I figured a little would not hurt. I am Happy to say #3 has been fine for me. Best Wishes imaluckydog -
I'm just 6 weeks out. Was just wondering... Saw a Planters Nuts commercial on TV a few minutes ago and it got me thinking lol.

How Long Until Incisions Heal?
WalkOnWaking posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3.5 weeks post-op. Of my 5 incisions, only 1 has completely healed. No signs of infection in any of the others. How long SHOULD it take to heal complete (scar)? I'll see my surgeon on the 18th, but was curious what others' experience has been. I have no skin staples or stitches, but have suture glue that closed the skin layer. -
Pat, I've been SO bad the last few weeks. Eating all the wrong foods, zero exercise. But isn't it wonderful to know that we can get right back on track? However, I do think I'm going to have to go through a "detox" program for carbs! Yipes!

Gaining weight after 1st fill and starting exercise!
mias76 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I'm trying to be really optimistic here. I had my 1st fill last Thursday and I started going to the gym on Sunday and instead of loosing weight I'm gaining weight!! I had my surgery 05/08/14 and I've been loosing steadily about 1 or 1 1/2 lbs per week and I was happy with that. This week I've gained 2 lbs!!! I assumed I would continue to loose weight, specially because I started working out. -
Here i go again...am i pigging out?
bbjerseygirl replied to justicenyce's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your recent surgery. It is completely normal to feel hungry and want to "pig" out at this stage. Your stomach is healing and is not as swollen as it was in the beginning. Remember, you are in the beginning stages which are about healing the stomach and ensuring band placement. You have yet to get a fill and be restricted. You felt restricted before cause of the swelling and irritation to the stomach due to the surgery. Even though I don't think what you ate is considered pigging out - you must be careful not to overeat and expand your pouch at this point. You need the first 6 weeks to allow the stomach to heal and allow the band's placement site to heal too. Overeating can stretch the pouch and cause less restriction for you later on. If I recall correctly, you should be eating 2-4 oz per meal - try your hardest to stick to that. If you continued to feel hungry - wait as long as you can and then eat something like a sugar free jello, yogurt, a full liquid so it will go thru the band and not stretch it. Don't worry - you aren't alone in this stage. It is hard and you are doing fine. Do your best, that's all we can do. Good luck.:mad2: -
Today when I weighted in I had to triple check to make sure I was seeing correctly. I lost 10 lbs this past week which puts me at exactly 100lbs less than I was 15 weeks ago today, my day of surgery. Holy crap was I excited to see that number. I had in the back of my mind been hoping to 100lbs lost post op by 4 months out which would be next Monday. Wow what a great day.! Next mini goal now is only 6lbs away and I'm now only 30lbs heavier than my lightest weight in 10 +/- years. Total lost since initial consultation Nov 23, 2010 is now 136lbs. I praise God for this opportunity.

Just made it to ONE-derland! (Does anyone remember that song, Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind, & Fire??) Well, I been singing it all day. Yesterday, I weighed in at 200.0 pounds, but this morning I weighed in at 199.6. To celebrate, I bought myself a cute blouse in a medium (and I must say I look super cute in it); it's off the shoulders with a mixture of blue colors and I'm gonna wear it with my skinny jeans when I cook this Wednesday for my family. I must add, I didn't get here easily. It's been the gym 5 days a week (sometimes there at 4:00am), watching and logging what I eat, along with a mixture of stalls and even a few weight gain weeks, and of course I work full-time and I am pursuing a master's degree. When I don't hit the gym, the scale does NOT move (even with the sleeve). So I'm gonna celebrate my new super cuteness then hit the gym again to get the next 64.6 pounds off! ...dancing in boogie ONE-derland...

Gaining weight after 1st fill and starting exercise!
chrissy10 replied to mias76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You cannot always go by the scale. Make sure you are taking measurements as well. I measure myself about every 3-4 weeks. When you are working out you are gaining muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. There are a lot of people that do not even weigh themselves till they go to the doctor. Just keep your head up and you will be fine. -
I Want To Tell Everybody About The Band!!
marylmcd54 replied to puppyphat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am almost a year out and I tell EVERYONE about my band! I don't care what they think it was right for me. A funny story last week I was in a casino store getting water and they asked for my license.. I said sorry it doesn't look like me anymore... a women asked why? I said because I had lap band surgery last year. Just before after I said it big guy came in and said did what? I told him what I had said.. he said " I am having a gastro by pass in a few weeks! I think the word is out there that you can be healthy and get help!! I say spread the word! (in the right situations anyway) -
Confused and Concerned
Northwest_Nance replied to rs2aj3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every doctor is different. My doctor does only lap band surgery, he's been doing it for years, and he has done well over 1000 of them with a high success rate, very low band slippage rate (which he says is mostly from vomiting, which can easily be avoided) and many very, very happy patients. He has his patients on one week post-op of liquid diet and then one week of mushies, then on to regular food. I don't really like to see people posting scare tactics from other doctors.... let's everyone just follow the advice of their own doctor, ok? That being said, follow the advice of your doctor. And peanuts right after surgery is totally wrong by any doctor's advice! -
This is actually a quote from Doctor Ortiz: Liquid phase is three weeks is 21 days Yes you will hear that some patients did less days of liquids and nothing happened. Well wait until six months have passed and you find yourself struggling with more band adjustments and not feeling the restriction. These patients enlarged their pouch. Once the harm is done it won’t show up imediately, but it will hinder your weightloss and you may never reach your goal. Now I ask you is it really worth it? By the way the only way to correct pouch enlargement is through surgical repair.
