Abdominal pain near belly button
terrydumont46 replied to Dquack01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the pain you are possibly feeling are spasms in your esophagus. they are very painful. suggestion is to discuss with your doctor about taking more fluid out even emptying it and starting over with a break. if your esophagus is involved you can suffer damage that is irreversible. that is what happened to me, needing this revision I now have. -
Band to Sleeve Revision-United Healthcare
azgirl2 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am curious if anyone had the revision from the band to sleeve and have United Healthcare. If so, what requirements did you have with them and did they cover the cost? Thanks for any input. In AZ and needing help with questions! -
It is your body but take it from me.I had sleeve 2011 and in 2015 had severe acid reflux. Had to have a revision to bypass.I too was afraid of bypass.Wished i had it the first time ,then I wouldn't of needed the second surgery. 30 to 40 % sleevers had to have revision because of acid reflux.

I revised from the band to the sleeve after 8 short months. The sleeve and band are only similar in the fact that they are only restrictive procedures. The disadvantage of the band is your restriction will vary, the first 2-3 months, your stomach is swollen, but then you have to get fills to hit the "sweet spot". I never got there, and quit losing, and even gained back a few of the initial 25-27lbs I lost the first 3 months. Every day was a surprise with the band. Some days, I could eat any food (except for bread) then other days, I couldn't get yogurt down without sliming and throwing up. Food got stuck even though I chewed it up to mush. There haven't really been any disadvantages to having the sleeve for the last 4 months. I've enjoyed all the foods I did before surgery just in smaller portions. I've only gotten something stuck once, and it wasn't the same as things getting stuck with my band. The constant aftercare and maintenance of the band was just inconvenient and disappointing. I've been beyond pleased with my results with the sleeve, and have zero regrets. -
Hi all. Just curious and wondered if anyone had similar experience that could offer input. I have Anthem BC/BS Ohio. I have a leak and surgeon wants to do a port replacement. Insurance said they needed a letter of medical necessity and that was sent last week. Anyone have the same situation and if so, how long did it take to get approval. According to Anthem's website and the rep I spoke with, this is covered under my plan. Thanks for the input!

More deep thought about revision
txladybug1993 replied to MelissaGG's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Wow, my doctor is taking out the Band and doing the sleeve in the same surgery. I would be freaking out if I had to go that long between surgeries. My revision is scheduled for the 14th and they told me I will need approximately 3 weeks for recovery. -
Need Advice! High BMI - Band to Sleeve revision
cinward2001 replied to Irish's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'll be having revision surgery with Dr. Rumbaut on Tuesday. He did my original LapBand surgery so I feel very comfortable with him. He is most definitely NOT the cheapest, but I'm not basing such an important decision on the lowest price. When I spoke to Dr. R (3 times now before deciding to do this...how many other surgeons talk to you personally?), he asked me if I had originally been successful with the band. Since I had, he thinks the sleeve will work well for me. If I hadn't, then he'd recommend RNY. It also depends on the type of overeater you are. For example, if you have trouble with sweets, then RNY might be best. But if volume is your problem, then the sleeve might be enough. I can't say for sure that Dr. R would do your revision all at once. A lot depends on your individual situation. The same with the RNY...if his professional opinion, based upon seeing thousands of patients, is that RNY is best for you, perhaps you should consider it. The main thing is to be open and honest about your situation, listen to what he has to say, then go from there... Good luck! -
Need Advice! High BMI - Band to Sleeve revision
AmandaRaeLeo replied to Irish's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I did not have a revision but I did go to Dr. Aceves. He's wonderful. Also, I am also guessing that any surgeon that will do it in one fell swoop, be it Mx or the States, will stop the surgery if they open you up and find its too risky to proceed. -
You feel like you shouldn’t have done the sleeve revision?

Does any know the criteria for Tufts for a revision from sleeve to bypass? I suffer from terrible reflux and need some relief. The medication doesn't work anymore. I do not fit the BMI and I don't have diabetes, sleep apnea or cardiovascular issues. Thank you Sent from my LGLS991 using BariatricPal mobile app

Does insurance cover delayed revision?
Steph1236 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the band for 2 years, went in for a revision on 9/11, woke up after a 5 hour surgery with no revision. The band had done to much damage. I spent 4 days in the hospital. Anyway, my doctor is going to do an endoscopy (probably sometime in Dec) to see if my stomach has healed and I could get the sleeve. I'm wondering if insurance will cover the sleeve as a 'delayed' revision, or if they will require me to do the 6 months of supervised visits? Anyone else have a similar story? What did insurance require? -
Hi all! I am getting revision surgery early tomorrow morning! I am excited, stressed, and so ready to do this! I started with the band in 2008 and lost around 30 pounds, had to have gall bladder surgery, and gained back 15. I had a too tight band and developed a hiatal hernia and erosive gastritis. Getting stuck was the norm! So, with my sleep apnea and needing to lose 90 pounds to hopefully regain my health, I am doing it. I have been on a liquid 800 cal diet since last Wednesday. I am 10 pounds down this morning. Wish me luck sleeping tonight here in Raleigh, NC!!

I'm 6 months out, had revision from band to RNY on 11-6-12 but my weight loss wasn't anything extreme- I have only lost 32lbs and I voiced my concerns on my 6mo follow up, dr performed some tests in his office which he says he sees my pouch is dilated!! He scheduled me for two procedures that I'll be doing at the hospital to make sure what he saw is acurate, if he is right- I will have to go back to surgery and have my stomach trimmed off!! I'm nervous but sorta relieved that he's detected it so soon, I was concerned as to why I was able to eat so much more than other November members and why I wasn't losing at the same pace everyone else was.... I'm thankful I'm getting some answers and getting it looked into! All I can say is that if you feel something just isn't right, it's up to you to fix it! If I had not been persistent with my dr he would of just thought I was losing at a slow pace since after all I did lose 30lbs! I go in for the tests next week! Hoping to put this behind me soooon! Feels like pre-op all over again!

My consultation is in 2 days! I hope I click with this surgeon. I had a consultation with another surgeon a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't like how his office was run. It felt like a surgery mill, honestly, and left me wondering what kind of support I'd be getting after my revision surgery. When I tell a bariatric surgeon that I've been having issues with my band and that I'd already had replacement surgery once, I shouldn't be left on my own to find a radiologist that is familiar with the band in order to get an upper GI series done. About a week before that consultation, I had a severe sliming/PB episode while I was at work (I made the mistake of eating a raw carrot). It was the last straw for me. I'm having more issues with my band since then, and I'm honestly starting to think I've had another slip. I hate to say it, but I'm actually hoping I have, since it will make getting a revision approved a little easier. I'm having acid reflux (with which I only had issues when my last band had slipped), my esophagus and chest aches off and on, and my port area has been a lot more tender. I'm sick of not being able to know what I can or can't eat until I try to eat it, and then getting painfully "stuck" and suffering projectile sliming. Always having to know where the bathroom is when I go out to eat, so that I can rush there if my band has decided to be restrictive. I want to be able to eat fresh fruit and vegetables and not have to spit out the fibrous parts. I want to be able to eat at work without having to wonder if I'm going to have to run to the bathroom (really embarrassing when you work in a very small group). I'm just so tired of this.

Possible Band to Sleeve Revision
Erin O'Donnell posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi everyone! I got the lapband back in 2012 and have since had little to no success. I've just been back to see my surgeon for the first time in over a year after becoming fed up with constantly being stuck, to the point where I couldn't even get Water down some days. He said I had a slight prolapse and removed all the Fluid from my band. He suggests that I switch to the sleeve. I just want to do my research before jumping into another surgery. I was wondering what the sleeve is like? What are the more common complications? And my biggest concern, do you get food "stuck" the way those with the band do? Getting stuck constantly was very difficult and uncomfortable and I would not want to feel that ever again, and knowing the sleeve is permanent I am scared that if getting "stuck" is a possibility that it is something I could be dealing with for, well, ever. Just for some background info, I got my lapband done at the hospital my dad works at in NJ (August 2012) because I'm on my dad's insurance and his covers the bariatric stuff, whereas my mom's insurance does not. But I live in VA where I just finished college and am starting a new job, and my dads insurance is not accepted anywhere but in NJ because it's an employee insurance and is only used in NJ. Due to convenience issues I was unable to get to NJ to see my doctor regularly and therefore believe I did not have the most success I could have had had I lived closer to my surgeon. Any and all input is much appreciated! Thanks!! -

has anyone had ANY problems with their sleeve?
Tiffykins replied to mommytoethan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Blood clots and infections are a complication of any surgery, but I can tell you that once I recovered after my revision, I have had zero issues. I am almost a year out, and have zero food restrictions, no med restrictions, and the only "problem" I've had is trying to maintain. I've pretty much got a handle on that for a few weeks now, and it's just a balancing act. It is tough to find some negatives, but the ones I've read about more often are the mental struggles with eating small portions, and wanting to eat junk. For some, the food issues aren't resolved with the sleeve. I had head hunger pretty much beat with the band. I have never experienced hunger post-op and even to this day, I don't get real hunger. It's a great tool, and I have zero issues with vitamin/nutrient deficiency. Oh, the only other problem I've had is in February, I was diagnosed with orthostatic hypotension. It's low blood pressure when I stand up too quickly from a sitting or laying position. It's been resolved with increasing my Fluid and sodium intake. My surgeon and PCP agree that it is related to my drastic weight loss and it will take some time for my body to adjust to my current weight. I hardly ever have an episode now since following doctor's orders with my fluids/sodium intake. Overall, I haven't had any serious issues post sleeve. -
How are you doing with your revision?
UsernameTaken posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Just want to get some feedback on how things are going for those that had revision from band to bypass (this is what I am going to be getting). What kind of progress are you making, how much weight have you lost since surgery? Loving it or hating it? Missing the band ? (I doubt I will ever miss mine) I keep hearing that weight loss is slower after revision vs those that had bypass first time around. When I talked to my psych about it when I had psych eval he said he does not believe this to be the case, which was pretty encouraging. I am not looking for fast weight loss but my weight loss has been always extremely slow to none, so I am nervous. Thank you for sharing -
How are you doing with your revision?
Trayjay33 replied to UsernameTaken's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@@UsernameTaken, I am over a year post-op from revision surgery and overall it has been a good experience. I have not experienced slow weight loss but I think that's a relative term. I have lost about 135 pounds since having surgery the end of 2014 and just stopped losing earlier in February hopefully to maintain where I am. (I wanted to stop losing). I don't regret the decision even though some days have been difficult. I'm not missing the band at all and RNY is much better. I hope the best for you. -
has anyone had ANY problems with their sleeve?
deedee replied to mommytoethan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My major problems have been mental. I had never suffered from depression in my life, but at around 6 months out I was having a lot of emotional difficulties and went on an anti-depressant around 7/8 months out. I'm assuming the sleeve, rapid weight loss, played some role, but I also had many other things going on in my life at the time too (death of my grandmother, infertility issues creeping back in, etc.), so who's to say. Medically, I have low blood pressure issues, which I've always had, I'm just about 4-6 points lower now, and Vitamin D deficient, which I was pre-op as well. Good luck with your revision! I am so happy and grateful I had this procedure. -
